This is the first ever known observation of a bigfin squid in the Colombian Southern Caribbean region. Captured by a ROV during exploratory drilling by the "Old Purple Angel Well". This specimen appears orange/brown in colour and is missing one of it's fillaments on its arm/tentacle.
It's size is approximately 2.3 meters long
As far as I am aware, this footage has never before been released to the public, so I'm very happy and honoured to be able to share this with you.
You can read Jurgen's paper "First observations of the bigfin squid Magnapinna sp. in the Colombian Southern Caribbean" below:

Rather interestingly, in this footage we can observe some matter attached to squid's arm/tentacle. Could this be a clue as to how these mysterious animals feed?
Many thanks to Dr Jürgen Guerrero Kommritz for providing this footage! Link to his paper in the description box.
Oooh! More clues!
I love these fucking spaghetti attached to a arrow head squid
I’ve noticed in almost every video documentation that you’ve archived here all of these squid are missing a tentacle/arm but they still have the top part of that appendage, is it possible that these squid have one small tentacle? Or is it just a coincidence that all of them lost one, though it’s obviously very easy for them to lose a tentacle since they’re so thin like fishing lines. Very interesting!
It could also be the same one each time
Is there any video showing measurements of how big they really are sometimes they look giant while other times they look normal size just with long tentacles
We estimate the biggest one we've seen to be around 7 meters, though most sightings are smaller. Where the information is available, I add it in the description of each video. This one in particular, we estimate it to be 2.3 meters long.
@@MagnapinnaArchive That seven meters includes the tentacles right? How big are their mantles?
@@VinVonVoomwe think usually in the ranges of 6 to 8-ish inches, with fin and head included around 11 in
The Longest magnapinna (filament included) was estimated in nov 2007 by the operators of the perdito ROV to be around 26 ft (8 m) in comparison with the oil drum and well next to it, previously in Jan 2000, one was estimated to be 23 ft (7 m) with comparisons of the visible ROV parts.
They are so fascinating!
No other word to describe it
*Alien*
i want to hug him
What is their size? They look either 3 inches tall, or the size of a skyscraper
This one, is about 2.3 meters long! Check out the description for more info.
@@MagnapinnaArchive My bad, sorry!
I think I have found a way to determine different species of magnapinna
this is amazing
