I lived in Oregon, Jackson County, for 4 years. I moved there from Texas, to be closer to my daughters. Honestly I would tell you to keep looking, while Oregon has some beautiful scenery, so does most of the Western US, as well as does the South. The climactic zones are varied in the US and it well worth a long road trip.
I am originally from Calgary, Alberta, still in the USA though.

Homelessness. What to do. What to do. 1. Take action to publicly and/or privately, or both, end it orr drastically minimize it. E.g. vote for people who will act according to your ideas on how to end/minimize it. Go to the encampments and get to know the people and help as much as possible at least one person. 2. Move someplace where everyone has a home that suits your requirements. 3. STFU and deal with it.

But the beaches are a great place to relax. Not only can you rent a beach house you can also go to great hikes and food places. Or sisters, And the campsites around there. They have horse farms and a great one I went to called Diane’s ranch. That was where I learned how to ride a horse and I loved it. THOSE ARE GREAT PLACES!!!! Trust me I know. With the exception of Crater Lake, every place on this list is in the Northern half of the state. FYI, Southern Oregon has just as many amazing spots to offer. Jacksonville is an amazing historic town. Ashland has the Shakespeare Festival, which is one of best theater companies in the country. The Rogue River offers amazing rafting and fishing opportunities. Avid hikers can hike from Grave’s Creek all the way to the coast following the river. And the Rogue Valley has some of the best vineyards in the state. Moral of the story, there’s more to Oregon than Portland the surrounding areas.

Wow! Oregon, you never fail to disappoint. Oregonians ( for those of you not from this state) believe that save from Crater Lake , only the parts north of Eugene are of value. Southern Oregon is amazing . With towns like Ashland, Jacksonville ( 1 of 8 towns in the USA where the entire town is historic, ) Brookings ( the banana belt Of Oregon & best costal weather) & I could go on much longer. But the Multnomah area is SO biased they completely disregard these little gems. I guess it’s a good thing, it does keep them out of that portion of this beautiful state. There are so many other places in Oregon that could have been covered like Willamatte Valley wineries, Ashland with the Shakespeare Festival, Klamath Falls with the Lava Bed Caves and Pacific Crest Trail and other various trails. Mt. McLaughlin could have been featured. Coos Bay could have been featured. I feel like Southern and Central Oregon were severely cut out.

I've lived in Oregon all my life. I recommend Newport over the other places on the coast they mentioned, or if you like a casino then do Lincoln City just down the way from Newport - you could easily do both in one day. And side note, it is not dark and gloomy in the summer, it is bright and beautiful and rains very rarely. I mid July is the best most ideal weather we get personally - but if you like it hot late July and August are great. If you are a beer drinker you must come see us in Eugene! Can't beat the craft beer scene we have going on here! Also all along the Mckenzie River area just outside Eugene is STUNNING!!! Waterfalls, lakes, hikes, hot springs, everything Oregon has to offer - you'd be missing out of you didn't visit.
