Hey Jimmy, Cummins had a lot of problems with the fuel pump on those type engines, I’m a retired diesel mechanic and the best advice I can give you is to call the nearest Cummins dealer and request a tech to come out, they have the tools to make a diagnosis on the engine. Good luck.

That’s way too new. ISB engines had a Bosch VP44 electronically controlled mechanical rotary pump that was notoriously failure prone. There’s about a 798.37% chance the VP44 is dead, nearly as likely it’s caused by a failed supply pump.

    Hi Jimmy,
We had a 99 Monaco with a ISB275 Cummins. The wire broke off the primary fuel lift pump that feeds the main fuel pump (just like yours). It ran exactly like yours does. We had to replace the small lift pump, was a couple of hundred bucks and it ran great.

If the issue is the ECM you can send the unit off and have it repaired. I believe the company is in Texas, been awhile since I used them. Most likely it’s a fuel delivery issue. Start at fuel tank and work towards motor changing all the filters and bring the fuel with you as you check the lines.

RV is stuck in Limp Mode. It's not the fuel pump or the ECM. The code that prompted the check engine light to come on is the same code that put it in Limp Mode. Usually needs a factory download or reset to
get it out of Limp Mode. Maybe you can get Cummings to allow you to download the software so your able to do it yourself. Otherwise you will have to take it to a dealer to have it reset. To the best of my knowledge
a code reader or scanner is not able to perform this fuction. Just my opinion from my own experiences. Hope it helps. I enjoy your channel very much. Thank You.........Scott Smoke.

American RVs are available in the UK even long ones. Google American RVs. I think the main limitation is width which restricts where you can go although the UK made Motorhomes are getting wider. For high end Motorhomes the build quality of the German Marques is probably higher than the US Manufacturers although the RV will have more bells and whistles.

I worked for a Mercedes shop for a while. Their diesel vehicles all have strainers in the tank. Theses things would get clogged and not let enough fuel by. Folks would spend thousands at diesel shops trying to get them to run better. Alot of folks replaced fuel pumps. One guy had his engine rebuilt. The strainer part cost us 0.74 we maybe charged $20 to swap them out cause they are easy to get to. In reality though you can spray them out with brake clean, but you do have to drain the tank. Anyway, the cars would drive just like that. No power, couldn't get above a low rpm, would not idle or run smooth. Sometimes they would throw random codes because they were running too lean and things were not working right. Sometimes they wouldn't throw any codes. It's usually shows up after they sat for a while, because the old fuel would break down and clog the strainer. I'm not saying that it, but it would be worth a look. It would be great if you can fix it with a can of break clean.

I am going to ask a stupid question. To the best of my understanding, the family is going to sleep in it and not really need to travel. That means that it might be far less expensive to order transport truck or a platform to ship the thing there instead repairing the engine. The operational word here is "MIGHT". I am not sure who much such transport could cost. The contraption is not completely static so that would help when is no longer needed.
    Just a thought :).
    Keep up the good work!

You need to check the turbo.if that turbo exhaust pipe is not sealed, it will limit your rpm's,like you are experiencing, and you should have seen engine temperature rising on your short trip. That's probably why you're not getting a code, the loose pipe won't give you a code. I've been driving truck for 35 years. Hope that helps

Jimmy, Ive saved those pumps before, got more life out of them. If its The PCB thats bad on the pump, some of them can be disassembled, exposing the board. Give the board a visual, most of the time its a matter of refreshing corroded or broken solder joints, sometimes its a capacitor thats blown, etc., Again, if the pump is suspect. Most of the time, I remove the pump, provide it external power and take it thru a rudimentary test regime, prior to disassembly.

So you are trying to get a Cummins diesel engine that sat in Florida for years and you haven't checked the fuel filters for algae plugging, haven't checked the turbo to be sure if spins and to be sure the turbo actuator isn't stuck, haven't checked to be sure that the exhaust waste gate isn't stuck closed, haven't check for a plugged air filter and you don't have the Cummins Insite software to look at engine operating parameters and trouble codes for why the check engine light is on. You don't have the A team helping you and until you do it is very unlikely you'll ever be able to put this coach back on the road. Your first step is to find someone with the Cummins Insite software who know what they are doing.
If you don't already know it, Cummins Quickserve is a free online service that you can join, enter the engine S/N and get Cummins specific information for troubleshooting your specific problem. But you will need the Insite software and someone who knows what they are doing.

Those Bosch vp44 injector pumps are the number 1 cause of failure on those engines , you also need to get the lift pump replaced at the same time, there are a bunch of reman ones that you can buy that is not high quality as new one but will get you out of there . The ECM on this engine rarely fails and when they do , they spit out p1600s hard codes that won’t clear. Doesn’t seem to be the case here! The fuel pump fails for 2 reasons the lift pump doesn’t supply the right amount of fuel to the pump causing lack of lubrication and cooling to the pump. The other failure is caused by heat and vibration to the mini computer on the top of the pump! I hope that this comment help you guys some how! Good lock

Are you sure it's an ISB (5.9) in a Class A that size? I would have assumed an ISC (8.3L). Anyway, both fuel filters will need to be changed. There is usually a second filter added by the chassis builder, aside from the engine-mounted filter. The VP 44 is very sensitive to feed pressure. If the lift pump dies, the injector pump will not survive. Then again, there is the TPS that fails. Search the internet for Cummins TPS reset. It's also known as "dead pedal".

    G,day Jimmy from Sydney Australia.
If the RV is staying near the salt water, and, will be roadworthy: some spray cans of rust and corrosion resistance would be good on frame and pipes.

Did you try to forcefully erase the errors even if no active ones are shown? In VW world that is the correct thing to do after fixing engine relevant issues.

Do these run an egr valve? A stuck egr wont always show a fault and wont rev. If no egr my guess is bad fuel, or fuel filters.

I am a professional diesel mechanic by trade and a couple things that I would look at are lift pump pressure see whether or not the turbo is seized from setting and then I would check rail pressure output the ECM rarely fails in these if it does fail it usually throws many codes or will not communicate with anything there are simple checks for the diagnostic port to make sure that it has power ground and communication feeds from the ECM the injection pump on them is fairly common to fail and is expensive but there again will typically throw a number of codes or will run erratically both at idle as well as revved up the simple checks of fuel pressure seized Turbo and proper fuel flow would be where I would start also if that has the Caps fuel system I would run before you waste any more money on it they are ticking time bomb that has no cheap way of repair and no long-term solution for repair if you do spend the money

Hi Jimmy I'm definitely 100%main computer cutting back on safety release inside main computer it controls ur throttle and how much fuel to send through injection system means it will only do ten mph and no faster and it's stopping it from reving. Completely

So what you actually mean is it's in limp home mode. And a fault code threw up causing the thing to go into limp mode so it has to be cleared by a dealer or manufacturers specific diagnostic system
