This Hungry Like The Wolf guitar lesson is gonna take you back to 1982 in style! The 80's, in my opinion, are the greatest time for pop music ever and Duran Duran have a lot to do with that.
These simple guitar riffs can be easily playable by even beginner guitarists. We will be using standard tuning.
The opening guitar riff is probably one of the most recognizable of the 80's era. It uses snappy open strings along with a catchy three note riff.
This riff is interrupted occasionally with an open D chord.
The chorus is simple power chords that support the catchy vocal melody and harmonies. You will hear that there is a lot of harmonic movement coming from the bass guitar line in the chorus while the guitar stays more static with simple power chords.

Chorus is | C / | G / | F / | F Bb | The Bb is hard to hear because the synth is prominent and holds an A note there, making it sound like the F chord sustains, but it doesn't. It goes to Bb or Bb/F. I contend the chorus's key change and the held A note are meant to be harmonically confusing, befitting of the song's lyrics and theme.

This is a fantastic example of a great song that is easily playable by a near-beginner. It really ISN'T about technique and flash. If you've got a GREAT IDEA, you can win.

Thanks Carl. I think part of the niceness of this riff is because the first E is NOT played A, Ab then A, Ab E, rather than A, Ab, E then A, Ab E but I may be not be hearing it properly on the track. I note others do include the first E.

Hey, thanks for all you do for everyone on the tutorials. A little tip, silicone on the nut slots will let those strings slide back in to their position if the nut is cut wide enough. Not sure what size of strings you use.

There is also a hidden guitar in the chorus. I believe that there is a synth guitar in the chorus. You can actually hear it better in the night version of "Hungry Like the Wolf".
