One of the few bands in history that the Bass player was really the lead guitar player. Generally, the bass player is the guy that they needed for backing vocals and they taught him a few notes....
He's not known for taking risks with time signatures and Alternate music styles. Underrated? No Perfect for that band? More likely boy band member that could play
At their live show; The Edge of U2 keeping the beat, Dave Grohl of Nirvana & Foo Fighters playing the air drum, Pink and Gwen Steffani singing and dancing along to the songs, Ed Sheeran and especially Lionel Richie giving a standing ovation must be more valuable for Duran Duran than being elected to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. What a talented and diverse audience ! We love them 🎶
Can you imagine looking around at your mates, with whom you’ve played these songs thousands of times, and thinking, “who would’ve thought we’d be here??” I saw them on tour this year, and now catching all of these videos- and the thing that strikes me (besides how under-rated they are) is how much joy they have for their craft and for each other. Just really cool to watch
Ironically, they were always a real music band, and discarded initially. And I listened to DD from 1982 i also thought before I listend, at age 11 they were girly. That was until I heard Planet Earth. Then the world of DD opened up.
In their time many saw them as a new wave, bubble gum, pop rock type band. Move forward 40 years and you realize these guys were supremely talented artists.
Duran Duran is one of the all time greats. They've got their unique sound, everybody who is born 70's or before will know immediately when they hear what band this is.
They sound so fantastic, finally getting the appreciation for their musicianship, production, composition and lyrical majesty, don't hate them because they are beautiful.
I was a bit unprepared for how amazing they sound in 2023. Simon sounds better now than 30 years ago. A bit of technology has really helped there although the man has taken care of the vocal chords over the decades. After trying to ignore and make excuses for how pale the recent Madonna concerts sound I can breathe a sigh of relief concerning the boys, Duran Duran. One of the best sounding Rock and Roll induction medleys I have ever seen.
He's been through it...almost lost his voice a few years ago but got a vocal coach and it helped tremendously. I saw them live last June and they were great. Just imperfect enough that you could tell they were doing for real if that makes sense
The thing that makes him sound his best was losing his voice in the 00s and then training to bring it back, and learning stance and breathing control which he never knew, being self taught.
Saw them in 1984 at the Worcester Centrum (Massachusetts). My friends and I were 18-19 years old and this was our generation's "boy band". 2 of my friends camped out overnight at the Centrum box office to get tickets. We ended up in the 3rd row. Only paid $25 a piece for those tickets back then. Could never afford those kind of seats now. I'm glad they sound as good live now as they did back then - Simon's voice is still great. Really wish I caught them back in September when they were in Boston. Hope they tour in this area again soon.
I know I’m prejudiced since I was a Duranie back in the 80’s but this has remained one of my favorite bands through the years. I finally saw them live in 2019. It was one of the funnest concerts I’ve ever attended. I love that Simon’s voice has stood the test of time. Glad they were finally inducted a couple years ago. They deserved it!
Watched them here in Phoenix a few years ago along with Chic. My goodness they put up a great show. Do yourself a favor and watch them live. They are f*cking great!!!
Growing up during The MTV days, Duran Duran was my favorite group. I wanted to be Simon LeBon. Lol! Even 42 years later these guys are “totally awesome”
I am mighty glad that I grew up in the 1980s ... All these great talents and songs ... Simon LeBon, Nick Rhodes and Taylor brothers were the poster boys ...
I grew up listening to the 80's songs, particularly New Wave. Duran Duran is always at the top of my list ! They truly deserved this ❤ What a legendary group!
@KeiPalace They didn't open for anyone, they were the headliners. I still have the ticket stub. It was Saturday, October 3, 1981. They first came to America in September of 1981.
they've put out some great songs since their 'glory days" that get lost in the shuffle of todays scene. Check out "What Happens Tomorrow" and What are the Chances"... and more uptempo stuff...."Girl Panic" and "Pressure Off" among many others..
All you watching this should listen to their 2011 album All You Need is Now in its entirety a few times... SO GOOD!!! Missing AndyT big time though... payers for him!!
I've been waiting to finally enjoy this performance and I was not disappointed at all. They sounded so good. I am happy to see them get their due recognition.
Watching this i am transported being a teenager again😢😢😢Simon's vocals have gotten stronger👏👏👏Amazing & Wonderful performance. i love watching L.L.Cool J bopping to Hungry like a Wolf👩🎤👩🎤👩🎤
Saw them live in Inverness, Scotland last year and they were absolutely fantastic. Hit after hit after hit. Fantastic connection with their audience. Thank you lads 👏

John Taylor's bass playing deserves its own spotlight!
One of the best!! Saw them in 2022 at MSG
@@chrisluckhardt RIGHT?! The bass on Rio...wtf? Amazing! The problem is is considered the hot guy from Duran...but he has crazy skills
He’s the bass god

This is one of those rare bands of this vintage that has maintained or improved over time. Incredible.
I wouldnt say improved. His vocals are nowhere near as good as they used to be. Still good, but definitely not an improvement
@@cesnav7593 la voz es unica y buena , el bajo es excelente tambien
So true--I don't know how they do it..Practice taking care of their health/voices
@@hejiranyc exactly! Great comment brother..
Definitely improved
LL Cool J singing along and Dave Grohl doing air drums to "Hungry Like the Wolf" is everything!
Music is blind
Everyone is a DD fan
Love this band so much. Simon has maintained his voice incredibly ❤❤❤❤ Songs have stood the test of time.
It really is remarkable...
He & they sound better then ever!😍
He finally got a vocal coach a few years ago after he lost his voice suddenly. Really paid off.
John Taylor is the most underrated bass player in music.
He's not known for taking risks with time signatures and Alternate music styles. Underrated? No Perfect for that band? More likely boy band member that could play
@@josephrileyosullivan the fact that you categorize him as a boy band bassist makes you smell of RRHOF and Rolling Stone magazine.
I think people know he is a mater
@@peterkelley07 right, unlike any other band's bassist...
I agree. Taylor can fill the foundation and the dance floor. Very underrated.
Love the celebs in the audience singing like fans!!
for 40 years later his voice is insanely perfect
I was just thinking the same thing! He's still got it!!!!
40 years later. We are the only one listening to great songs like this.
44 actually He started in 1980 with the Band
I love seeing Dolly, LL Cool J, P!nk, The Edge, and everyone else dancing to Duran Duran!! Dave Grohl doing air drums too!

Thanks, I was wondering about that! Cool to see them enjoying it!
And don’t forget LL COOL J DOING THE DO DO DO DOS, WITH BADASS GESTURES AND A HUGE SMILE ON HIS FACE
Dolly Parton grooving to "Hungry Like the Wolf".
And LL Cool J

They were the original New Romantics (complete with frilly cuffs)
Adam and the Ants.... these guys... Boy George... Spandau Ballet
New Wave was Gary Numsn and others
Duran Duran is one of the all time greats. They've got their unique sound, everybody who is born 70's or before will know immediately when they hear what band this is.

He has a very good voice. And looks fit for a man of his age. I love girls on film song.
John Taylor is a phenomenal bassist, deserves more credit. Hope Andy is doing well.
What's wrong with Andy
@@jayshreenarshi686 He was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer for years & revealed it in a letter that Simon read to the audience at the RRHOF.

True!!!!
Live and no backing singers…. Still tremendous musicians into their 60s, this is real talent and a well deserved accolade!
They sound awesome. Not sure about the comment about there are no backup singers (there are two female backing vocalists on stage to the left)
No backing singers? What are Ana & Rachel doing back there then?
they do having backing singers, the two ladies to the side and of course, the boys are also singing backup like Nick
