Michael Warren was not only a great actor, he was a great basketball player. He played with Kareem at UCLA. They won back-to-back NCAA championships under the great John Wooden.
@@untitle161Yep. He was the point guard, and Kareem has said Warren was the best point guard he ever played with! That’s coming from a man who played with Magic Johnson. I came across Mike Warren’s UCLA career totally by accident when I was a kid. I was reading an article about “Alcindor” at UCLA, and there was a picture of Alcindor going up with a bunch of people under the basket. I looked at one of those guys and thought “That looks like the guy from ‘Hill St. Blues.’” I read that photo caption and one of the names was “Michael Warren.”
I loved this show when I was in high school. It would have been a nce touch for the show to have a 25 or 30 year reunion special where the team comes back for their class reunion and reflects on their time at Carver . The writers could have shown the impact Reeves had on these kids and how it influenced them in their adult lives...
Great idea but unfortunately the interest doesn't seem to be there. The first two seasons on DVD sold poorly so they didn't even bother releasing season three, the final season. And that release was supposed to have a killer documentary on it. Such a great show.
White Shadow was the show to watch when I was a JR-SR. in high school.Dealt with topics that teenagers were going through in sports, relationships,& family. The last season though, the storylines got a little unbelievable.
Sanseiguy, many thanks bro for posting this. I’m a sansei too, from Crenshaw and played one year on the “B” team at Dorsey which remains one of the highlights of my old life. Learned to be a baller there, which carried me through life’s ups and downs. Thanks again!
No...he was drafted in the 14th round in 1968 by Seattle, but wanted to play in LA...so, he signed a contract with the LA Stars of the ABA, but was cut in the preseason
John Wooden was asked who the best player he coached was and without hesitation the answer was Michael Warren. My late father-in-law and his brother, both solid players in their day, often talked about Warren's high school days and how he was cheated out of some deserved awards.
Never seen this clip before, but these guys were serious athletes. I actually met some guys that played against Howard in high school, and by all accounts he was a great player and should have been a solid college player. He's obviously got NBA size. Yet he chose NOT to play basketball in college. Somebody already said, but Michael Warren was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's point guard at UCLA, and Jabbar himself has said that Michael Warren was the best point guard he ever played with and also set the standard for all the others he would play with as a pro. Looking back it seems weird that a guy who was part of the most dominant team in college basketball history didn't have at least a LITTLE bit of a pro career. Well, he turned to be a great actor.
He was at a disadvantage, being only 5'11"...nevertheless, he was drafted by Seattle in the 14th and final round of the 1968 NBA draft...he wanted to play in LA and chose to sign with the then-Los Angeles Stars (later became Utah) of the ABA, but was cut during the exhibition season and never played another game.
Did you ever notice how in the moves or on television, when the writers need to generate a random number, the number 37 seems to creep into the script? Just a thought... 1:50
I used to watch this when I was in high school. I'm 59 and these guys were playing high school kids then my age. Been watching it again on dvd and can't help notice that the actors playing the high school kids look a few years or more beyond high school. This guy looks WAY TOO OLD for high school. Still,it remains a pretty decent show, even when it isn't sure what it wants to be. Some of the endings just seem to fall away. But maybe that's the whole point:life usually is complicated.
Park ball, the real deal man, in the hood, a couple people soon a crowd gathers, next thing you know 3-on 3- then full court ( then I got next ). I guess you could call that culture...
What is that thing that Warren is wearing on his head, LOL? Seriously, in reality Warren would blitz Howard 10 zip. He was the sparkplug of the great Alcindor UCLA teams.
It depends on who the high-schooler was. If it was somebody like a 17 year-old Earl "The Goat" Manigault, then the retired, 5-PPG NBA player would have had his hands full.
Michael Warren was not only a great actor, he was a great basketball player. He played with Kareem at UCLA. They won back-to-back NCAA championships under the great John Wooden.
Really?

I really miss this era. Back then, EVERYTHING was cool and had a style to it. The music the people, etc. Still love this show to this day!
My favorite episode of The White Shadow. Michael Warren is a great actor, so underrated. R.I.P. Ken Howard.

Coolidge was a character on St Elsewhere. ruclips.net/video/_-uKPH5d8Yo/видео.html
Coolidge moved to Boston and became an orderly at St. Eligius Hospital.

My childhood ...I was 10 to 12 years old when this was on tv...I watched every sjow
Ken Howard and Mike Warren were less than 2 years apart in age. Here, Howard was 34. Warren was 32.

Ken taking a risk, looked like he wasn't even trying to block those first three baskets. Great show, great scene.
One of my favorite tv shows when I was in high school. I was in love with Haywood!! 🤣🤣🤣💙
it's "hayward."
That jumpshot took bobby magnum all the way to UCLA :)
Ken Howard could really play ball. Of course Warren was a star at UCLA.
White Shadow was the show to watch when I was a JR-SR. in high school.Dealt with topics that teenagers were going through in sports, relationships,& family. The last season though, the storylines got a little unbelievable.

Great sports scene from 1970's
I still love this show!!!
That was a great scene! Mike Warren was a great basketball player and actor!!
Mike Warren was Kareem's point guard at UCLA
And eventually played for the Lakers
No...he was drafted in the 14th round in 1968 by Seattle, but wanted to play in LA...so, he signed a contract with the LA Stars of the ABA, but was cut in the preseason
And he went on to a good gig on Hill Street Blues!
His daughter is married to Quincy Jones son.
Richard Bullis and his son married Jessica Alba
I loved this show n I love the game of basketball. Mike Warren a great actor n a great ball player
Back in the days when people go outside and play
John Wooden was asked who the best player he coached was and without hesitation the answer was Michael Warren. My late father-in-law and his brother, both solid players in their day, often talked about Warren's high school days and how he was cheated out of some deserved awards.
Shows like this stand the test of time.
Great episode!
After the show ended just about all of them went behind the camera.

The white shadow was the reason for me .

He better be glad he wasn't playing one on one with Marques Johnson! R.I.P Ken Howard!

Brutal!
Shot at Beeman Park in Studio City. All these years later, doesn't look that much different. (No chain nets, sadly)
Park ball, the real deal man, in the hood, a couple people soon a crowd gathers, next thing you know 3-on 3- then full court ( then I got next ). I guess you could call that culture...
Ken Reeves sticking that corner jumper.
The Mike Warren Character would never become a Porfessional Basketbal Player. But he did become a Cop at some Precinct called Hill Street.
Tough baseline jumper to win the game... With a guy in his face.
Not to mention falling out of bounds...
White Boy Dunking
Ken Howard with the dunk
Hill Street Blues...check out the Afro
Cash Warren's dad...aka Jessica Alba's husband!!!
Real basketball
He won that game like Jordan
High school ? He looks 35.
Yup he was actually 33 in this episode
AN DEN DA FUNK STARTED
Problem is now, you don't need to go to college to go to the NBA, and you don't need to go to HS to go to college.
Warren played with Jabbar at U.C.L.A
What brand of sneakers is Warren wearing?
Brian Davidson ...Pro-Keds.
Didn't Mike W play with Kareem at UCLA
Yes he did. They won a pair of national championships together in 1967 & 1968
Is that hair for real?
Okay, adjusted resolution. It's a hat, and I'm an asshat.
It was a reasonable question since Mike Warren is bald and wore a toupee in other shows.
What is that thing that Warren is wearing on his head, LOL? Seriously, in reality Warren would blitz Howard 10 zip. He was the sparkplug of the great Alcindor UCLA teams.
LOL! Warren would win no doubt but he might not "blitz" Ken Howard 10-0. (Howard was also a pretty damn good player!)
I bet that music is Tom Scott
It's Mike Post, he did all the music for the series (among others)
Pretty sure a former pro player would eat a high schooler for lunch. Plus isn't recruiting against the rules in California?
A friend of mine played in a league with a former ABA player who dominated NAIA college kids, and he was in his sixties.
It depends on who the high school guy is.
And it didn't help that this particular high schooler was a two time NCAA champ! LMAO!
Theroetically, he wasn't "recruiting" the kid, since the kid wasn't in school.
It depends on who the high-schooler was. If it was somebody like a 17 year-old Earl "The Goat" Manigault, then the retired, 5-PPG NBA player would have had his hands full.
Ken Howard played for UCLA I believe!
Amherst. Warren played for UCLA.
Is that 30 year old man playing a high school kid 🧐
