What's interesting about this movie is that every one who appeared in it, except Turman and Jacobs, were not professional actors. The director hired locals from that Chicago area to play the various roles in the movie in an effort to make it more realistic. Stone and Robert were REAL gangbangers, and Stone did time for armed robbery and Robert was shot to death two years after the movie came out. Garret Morris was cast largely because he had been NYC school teacher.

I felt he deserved the same fate as stone n robert in the end when they were killed. I wonder whatever happend to him and tyrone too.

I just started watching the movie on RUclips, but I had to remark, apparently there was no concern for making the movie correct in terms of the historical setting. Movie takes place in Chicago 1964, within the first couple of minutes we're seeing the street scenes. They are loaded with cars, including a brand new 1975 yellow Corvette. I did hear that the movie was a great movie, and I am not going to be concerned with that, as they were not when they made the movie.

@@melroze back in the 50's and 60's gangs and thugs was around but it was not at a higher level of violence like today. Yes also live events just like then. Remember the plot is exactly the same but the only difference is the level of violence is more intense, that's it.
