The increase in people that need glasses is not just caused by the usage of digital screens becoming more common. An incredibly important part of how the body maintains the health of your eyes is through dopamine. This is generally created in the retina of your eye, when sunlight hits its surface. If you have a consistent shortage of dopamine in your eyes, this can heavily affect the shape of your eyes/lenses. I think it's very clear that the epidemic of eyesight deterioration isn't caused by just one single thing, but rather a combination of multiple factors.
Also should be pointed out that VR lenses optically create a focal point for your eyes some 2-3 meters away. So actually when focusing phone it is focally worse for your eyes. Wouldnt be too worried about the eyesight issues in this sense
@@eerotiainen8555 agree. As someone whose eyes are getting crappier due to me closing in on 50, using tablets/phones gives me WAY more eye strain than VR. It’s extremely rare for me to get eye pain from VR. Only time it happens is with the PSVR2, and I think much of that is due to how poorly that headset fits me. your points make a lot of sense, but i'm still a big fan of vr. not the same way meta is, where we will replace our social lives with it, own nothing be happy, work in it, etc. but rather i see it more like a game console. beat saber is fun, so i will keep playing it. breachers is still fun (most of the time), so i'll keep playing it. when big games like half life alyx or metro awakening (the latter of which i still need to play) come out, i'll want to play them. point is i think that looking at vr the same way meta and other companies do isn't the right way, instead we need to look at it more as a fun console to get on from time to time, rather than replacing our life with it.
I completely agree. The failure of the Vision Pro shows that VR is all about gaming. Until they make VR hardware the size of sunglasses it'll always be about the gaming.
WOW! Just wow. I grew up before all of this stuff was a thing. I still read a book or two a week. Touch grass and breath the air outside at least once a day. @@AnimatedASMR I used a Rift CV1 for 3 years, Quest 2 and Reverb G2 the next 3 years. The Quest3 is a huge upgrade from everything I've ever used for both PCVR and Quest games (with QGO). It's extremely good value for the hardware and capabilities.
@@Verociity Are all the accessories necessary? Yeah, 500 bucks for the Q3. But, the required add-ons like a better strap, battery, cable connection, and so on seem like it can add up to quite a lot.
I started watching not long ago when I purchased a 3s for Christmas for myself and my kids. I love the honesty you have provided and I've already noticed less play time since the first few weeks of owning one. I appreciate the work you put into your vids
I think with content creators, the issue I have is that it's difficult not to get sucked into Meta's ecosystem because a lot of games are only on standalone. I also hate when games are restricted to being only good updates in the standalone headsets instead of PCVR as well. There's so much we can do in VR, yet it's being restrained cause there is no competition. So, at the end of the day, maybe it's time for Valve to finally release that headset and make on hell of a change to the gaming world.
love your content, dude. i’ve been watching since the end of 2021/start of 2022, and I feel like you’ve evolved your content into something more enjoyable and something that actually feels like im watching a real human being. the vr industry as a whole has just been filled to the brim with absolute dogshit the past year or two, and its just getting worse. glad you’re talking about it, and keep up the good work, man!
yo bro I'm a huge fan I've been subscribed for 29 years, and watched every video since the "I Brought Harambe to my Cave to Review the new Quest -47 Virtual Reality Headset" video ❤
It is embarrassing that, as a VR RUclipsr, you are conflating VR as a whole with Meta. You whine about clickbait slop, but this is exactly what you were doing for the last 3 years and you're doing this now. You paste a screenshot from a study and lament the detrimental effect that VR can have on eyesight yet skip the positive part, as if you were... biased? It seems as if you were so asshurt over not getting some award that you felt the need to reinvent yourself? I subscribed to you for VR content, so as a VR enthusiast I guess I should unsubscribe, since you're not going to make VR videos? I'm not interested in watching a man ramble about obvious things while strolling through the woods, I can take a walk myself. Nothing is stopping people from having fun, in VR or otherwise.
i don't play vr games anymore either. i have moved on too spending time with my friends and family, however i do still use my vr headset literally to watch youtube in bed. i do also spend more time outside and im actually enjoying playing with my moms dog now. this video is also semidepressing tho but it did help me understand that its not just me who is taking a break from vr games and i have used this vr headset with watch youtube more than actual playtime on vr games at this point and it may very well become a toaster because the apu melted or decided to die. and i think its for the better honestly
I agree with all of this, except that "Virtual Reality isn't Fun Anymore", it's still fun, tho the only fun stuff are the old games such as hl alyx. Also, the thing you mentioned that phones/monitors/vr make your eyesight bad, tho while its correlated looking at near stuff constantly is not the reason (or the only reason) why you become nearsighted, instead It's because people tend to spend their time indoors and looking down at their phones instead of straight/up. So you don't receive enough sunlight to make your eyes stop growing, thus they become slightly elongated shifting the focus point away from where it's supposed to be, "Sunlight stimulates the release of dopamine in the retina, which helps prevent the eye from becoming overly elongated. When the eye grows too long, light entering the eye focuses in front of the retina instead of directly on it, leading to myopia." -ChatGPT (I was lazy to find a source for this, but you can fact-check me if you wish)
I just want to say that you played a huge role for me with VR. You gave great insight, and made some downright inspiring stuff. I still love my headset, and I still love the entire medium of VR. Of course, I've been doing a lot of outside stuff, too. My hometown is right next to a mountain range, and I've been going up there a lot to lay in the dirt and take in the silence, but I digress. It's been fun, Charlie. I'll still be here to watch the occasional upload, but more importantly, I hope you can find whatever it is you're looking for.
For me ,VR Is in his prime right now. Just past weekend I finished Resident Evil 4 remake at 12h game time, and finished the cyberpunk 2077 Main Story line via Luke Ross Mod after 25h of great VR Gameplay now even better with DLSS4. Maybe it's the Meta bubble which is not that enjoyable ,although I liked the Sabrina Carpenter concert ^^ I dont unterstand the rant for other VR content Creators, eg Cas is a technical Expert providing massive Tips for VR usage. I already knew how the thumbnail of todays Video Look like after seeing the vid over at discord ,speaking of generative thumbnails. Good luck for future content :)
Since you're in the woods or forest, go make survival real-life content; that will be nice since we like your personality, which is about you vlogging and your humor sense. Cheers, brother, I celebrate your decision. Im not a hater, I like your creativity.
Speak for yourself. Hyper-obsessing over anything and that thing will lose its appeal. Balance is key. I'm 65 and have been into tech, computers and computing since home computing involved Heath Kits, monochrome monitors, Unix OS and Pine to access email and this stuff still is fun for me. But I NEVER obsessed over it and didn't allow it to make me neglected needful things. I touched grass, spent time wife, the kids, the dog...etc.
I got myopia from excessive screen usage so I did a lot of research on it and I'd like to point out a couple things that you said. Your eyes actually relax when looking at something far away, so it would be the opposite of the "ocular exorcize" you mentioned There is increasing research that it's not actually the screens causing nearsightedness in children, but it's the lack of sunlight. Apparently as your head grows your eyes use light to gauge the adjustments to size needed, but if you're not getting that light it won't be able to do that properly. (it could also be using how clear the image you are seeing is, but if you only focus at one distance it ends up optimizing for that range) Now we're all stuck with long eyeballs!
Damn. Some folks took some heavy strays in this video. Besides whatever that personal beef was, i agree in part. But I dunno. I think the important thing, for individuals and parents alike, is balance. The same way some kids were raised by TV back in the day, to the ipad kids now, too much of anything is badddddddd. Having a seperate hobby or passion on top of this one is good. Diversifying. It allows you to get through slow moments. When there are no good games coming out in VR, i dont really care, because ive not completed any of my old ones LOL. I was busy doing other stuff and going outside. Trust me, it can be done! This medium is and can still be fun... just dont VR too close to the sun *edit- typos*
Exactly! My thoughts aswell. I also see a lot of people talking about VR like it has to replace regular gaming. In reality, the two mediums offer two experiences that differ quite a lot and are unique in their own way. To me, VR is just another hobby like any other, and should be treated as such.
This was a really great video and had so many good points. I appreciate how different you are from most VR youtubers and being creative while also being yourself I hope your new content is better then your VR content ever was!
I'm in the same boat. I'm considering changing to triple monitors but I can't really see myself enjoying sim racing as much, and it would suck to buy three monitors to never use them. Plus, the amount of real estate you save with a VR headset is great, and I'd imagine the electricity bill would be (admittedly only a little bit) less.
@@juliangrey8751 I love the headset. You don't have to mess with any FOV settings, everything is just 1:1 perfect and actually 3D. I do a lot of dirt track oval in iracing, and being able to look over and accurately judge distance while sideways is so much better in VR than triple monitors. Also triple monitors take up a ton of space (that is why I got rid of mine).
lots of other games have VR mods though. Valheim VR mod Titanfall 2 VR mod Minecraft VR mod Space Engineers VR mod And with more games having mods that make games VR. I think what we will see happen if VR is to stay as a medium. Is regular games simply release with VR mode. inspired by the modding communities making every game a VR game. But if there isn't any interest from modders to do it. Or consumers to use it. Then nothing will come of it. It will be seen as not interesting enough for people to chase it. There for not interesting enough for people to invest in either. EDIT: But i do believe AR is where this will end up becoming mainstream. Then maybe later down that road VR will evolve again.
Im not trying to be mean but, i think you are a bit overreacting, i think you made like 20 videos hating on meta. And even though the stuff are true, lets just look at the good stuff dude. Im a 11 year old with a quest 2 (soon a 3) and im very happy with my purchase :D

You're already playing 'ready player one' in internet cyberland, chatting it up with internet annonymous randos scattered across the world. lol You're just choosing a different screen. People will continue to have different hobbies and will enjoy doing what they love. It's all about balance
You're the only person I watched for VR, so I'll miss the VR content, but still fully support what you're up to! I will say, the space definitely isn't what I wish it was. But it's something I get to do with my Dad (who lives several states away) every week, so until he gets tired of that, it's going to remain a consistent part of my life, and I'm grateful for what it's able to give us right now. I hope that despite the depressing state we're in with it, others are still finding a way to get value from it.

Great take, I used VR mostly for flight sims, but I haven't touched it in months. Now I'm playing Arma Reforger and having a blast. Cheers mate.
when you realise the real world is cool asf you realise you was wasting your life in VR. good job for escaping the meta monopoly and finding your own footing
I don't see how that's different from video games in general, moderation and more importantly not substituting video gaming/VR for your actual life is key and not exclusive to just VR

vr is fun but its just a balance in life. Im in college and I sometimes get on to play and chat with people. Nothing to crazy. As long you arnt focusing so harshly on the company or people who exist in VR only. Its honestly very fun just to mess around in an online fishing world and talk shit sometimes :)
Exactly, I see a lot of people framing VR as if it HAS to replace otber things in your life, when in reality that lies entirely in your own hands. VR Gaming isn't gonna replace regular gaming anytime soon for example. Currently, VR simply provides a gaming experience that is different from regular gaming. They can both exist besides each other and still both be great in their own way. Not sure why people have a hard time seeing that.
I'd say like anything else, VR is a tool that can be used for good or bad. I still enjoy my Quest 3, but I also limit my sessions and don't let it run my life. Yes, Meta has a lot of control of the market for now. But the lifespan of consumer VR is tiny, and all it will take is Meta becoming stagnant for another company to step in and take the top spot. We've seen this when Atari had the spot, than Nintendo, than Sony, than Microsoft (360) before back to Sony and now Nintendo again.
i've stopped using vr recently because like. everything fights me when i try to play it. i open virtual desktop, and the headset isnt connected to wifi. i connect the headset to wifi. virtual desktop doesnt detect my pc. close and reopen virtual desktop. finally connect to my pc open steamvr. steamvr has set itself to 52% resolution and doesnt let me change it go round in circles in both virtual desktop trying to fix this give up and enable upscaling in virtual desktop and deal with it load game. virtual desktop constantly freezes view , so have to go back and into vr view to fix it repeat last step 15+ time over the course of the play session finally fix everything and start playing game and having fun "battery 5% remaining" headset dies 2 minutes later I HATE VR I HATE VR I HATE VR I HATE VR I HATE VR
true I wonder when we'll get to the point where you just plug the headset in and it just.... works. im so fed up with the setup, especially when youre trying to play with some buddies and half of the group has to take 20 minutes debugging their setup
So, the company you criticize every single video isn’t sponsoring you, and now you’ve shifted your entire channel to talk about how Meta sucks ? Got it
he’s not saying video games aren’t fun, he’s saying y’all need to touch grass and try living life. some of these comments are so self incriminating lol
UEVR. GTX 5090. DLSS 4. Luke Ross. Cyberpunk. Rezzie Evils. FF7 remake. Assetto Corsa evo... The list goes on and on... 4k per eye. 100 odd fps (I hope!). The future is bright. The future is a 'dedicated to my hobby.'. The future is 'my hobby costs a small fortune.'. The future is... VR.
@cdr9696 No offense but how do you know? It isn't released until Jan 30th. The reviews are meh and the frame gen seems bad for vr. Lets say you are grabbing something moving. It may not be there when you grab because it is a fake frame with extra latency.
3:33 for any non-VR players this is true. I play gorilla tag quite alot and there's some kids in there using the n-word like its any other word and sometimes even more than any other word by 100x more
I mean, not if youre on quest maybe. Im having an absolute blast on PSVR2. High quality triple A games, immersive, comfortable, OLED, HDR, head haptics,.. so good.
@VRnamek obvs not loads, but it has had more genuine triple A VR games in 2 years than ALL OTHER headsets have got, COMBINED, in the last 5 years. The VR market is not yet big enough to justify triple A investment. That's why we're all relying on indie studios and smaller budget games. Despite this, Sony has funded resident evil 8, resident evil 4 remake, horizon call of the Mountain, gran turismo 7, theres also no mans sky, and we've got a legit version of 3 triple A hitman games coming soon and resident evil 9 vr. What's quest got that's GENUINELY current triple A? None. Batman is great, but it looks like a ps3 game. If you call batman triple A then fine but you would also then have to include about 2 dozen mulitplat vr games that are ALL way better graphics and immersion on psvr2

People in VR are being experimented on.
your points make a lot of sense, but i'm still a big fan of vr. not the same way meta is, where we will replace our social lives with it, own nothing be happy, work in it, etc. but rather i see it more like a game console. beat saber is fun, so i will keep playing it. breachers is still fun (most of the time), so i'll keep playing it. when big games like half life alyx or metro awakening (the latter of which i still need to play) come out, i'll want to play them. point is i think that looking at vr the same way meta and other companies do isn't the right way, instead we need to look at it more as a fun console to get on from time to time, rather than replacing our life with it.
I completely agree. The failure of the Vision Pro shows that VR is all about gaming. Until they make VR hardware the size of sunglasses it'll always be about the gaming.
I went outside yesterday.. and just, WOW.. real world has really good graphics. I thought i should do that more often..
WOW! Just wow. I grew up before all of this stuff was a thing. I still read a book or two a week. Touch grass and breath the air outside at least once a day. My life is IT but I don't neglect needful things. Do I want my robot sex slave? Oh HELL yeah! But I also will not give up my flesh and blood spouse, or kit and kin for the silicon thrill of the WIred and all things geekdom. No, not EVER.

@batyr123_ LMAO, so dude can drop a whole ass documentary about how VR is mid now, but the second I talk about balance, I’m a digital monk? Did you actually read what I wrote? My life is IT. bro, have you tried UEVR? i just finished Jedi Survivor in VR and its amazing, one of the best gaming experiences ever, VR modding is where all the good stuff is at.
I'm intrigued. What headset are you using for it?
UEVR is the last bastion of PCVR, the modding community is our only hope when the industry focuses on mobile VR (saying this as a Quest3 user).
@Verociity I'm about to get myself a Quest 3. How are you liking it? All the other competiting brands are really expensive upfront.

Nothing is stopping people from having fun, in VR or otherwise.
finally a conscious take
I still have a ton of fun playing Pavlov and other games with my friends lol, just as much as I did in 2020
i don't play vr games anymore either. i have moved on too spending time with my friends and family, however i do still use my vr headset literally to watch youtube in bed. i do also spend more time outside and im actually enjoying playing with my moms dog now. this video is also semidepressing tho but it did help me understand that its not just me who is taking a break from vr games and i have used this vr headset with watch youtube more than actual playtime on vr games at this point and it may very well become a toaster because the apu melted or decided to die. and i think its for the better honestly
i found this channel after returning to vr recently, and i wholeheartedly look forward to whatever you choose to yap about next
So you don't receive enough sunlight to make your eyes stop growing, thus they become slightly elongated shifting the focus point away from where it's supposed to be,
"Sunlight stimulates the release of dopamine in the retina, which helps prevent the eye from becoming overly elongated.

@gargoyled_drake good point. why do adults stop playing in the snow?
Speak for yourself. Hyper-obsessing over anything and that thing will lose its appeal. Balance is key. I'm 65 and have been into tech, computers and computing since home computing involved Heath Kits, monochrome monitors, Unix OS and Pine to access email and this stuff still is fun for me. But I NEVER obsessed over it and didn't allow it to make me neglected needful things. I touched grass, spent time wife, the kids, the dog...etc.

Your actually independent opinions on VR will be missed. I'm looking forward to see where you take the channel. Best of luck in all you do.
I got myopia from excessive screen usage so I did a lot of research on it and I'd like to point out a couple things that you said.
Your eyes actually relax when looking at something far away, so it would be the opposite of the "ocular exorcize" you mentioned
There is increasing research that it's not actually the screens causing nearsightedness in children, but it's the lack of sunlight.
Apparently as your head grows your eyes use light to gauge the adjustments to size needed, but if you're not getting that light it won't be able to do that properly. (it could also be using how clear the image you are seeing is, but if you only focus at one distance it ends up optimizing for that range)
Now we're all stuck with long eyeballs!

I'm not 30 seconds in and the sunbeam STRESS I am feeling with the nonchalant waving around of that outdoor quest is brimming.
This medium is and can still be fun... just dont VR too close to the sun
*edit- typos*
I appreciate how different you are from most VR youtubers and being creative while also being yourself I hope your new content is better then your VR content ever was!

speak for yourself... In sim racing, I never went back to monitors once I put on the goggles.
Also triple monitors take up a ton of space (that is why I got rid of mine).
as an older gamer VR brought me back to games. I will admit tho, the super slow release of games is killing it for me as well in tons of ways.
lots of other games have VR mods though.
Valheim VR mod
Titanfall 2 VR mod
Minecraft VR mod
Space Engineers VR mod
And with more games having mods that make games VR.
Im a 11 year old with a quest 2 (soon a 3) and im very happy with my purchase :D

vr is fun but its just a balance in life.
I had a feeling I liked your videos for a reason. you're a young buck, but got your head on straight! keep the vids coming!
