Also, there are some more spooky ghosty sounds the original spongebob used. I think in the episodes with the flying dutchman.

Really fun and cool project! I think it came out really well, and there's actually a lot of really neat info about older animation and stuff in here. Also love the collaboration with other artists and stuff. Very cool, oozes passion.
The weird pauses, the non-chalantness to absurd ideas and topics, and weird switch from animation to live action... This perfectly captures the old spongebob I loved so much. It had that bit of groundness with how you'd think people would react if all this absurd stuff was considered normal but the general plot from an outsiders in perspective is just absolute chaos. It took itself seriously enough, but not too seriously to where they could just pull random things out of nowhere and act like NOTHING AT ALL was weird.
i feel like cel animation was the purest form of this style. Nothing will ever come close to the feeling you get from these cartoons. Thanks for this man.
You said you "wasted" your time a couple times in this vid, and I just want to say that I absolutely don't think this was wasted time. It was incredible to see, even for but a moment, what Spongebob could have been.

Hey! One of the editors of Conch Street Gaming here! I'm glad to see that the channel is getting more recognition along with the crew members as well. Great animation, keep it up!
The fact that you were able to recapture the style of season 1 with the style of animation cels is absolutely insane and pretty cool at the same time! Like seriously this is awesome! Oh and the fact that it has been done with actual animation cels is absolutely pretty cool to see and I always love the magic of old animation, especially when it comes to season 1 of SpongeBob
I think what's understated here is, in my opinion, how well everybody absolutely nailed specifically the Season 1 feeling. Season 1 always felt so distinct to me, even from Seasons 2 and 3, and there's something about the more low-key vibe of the scene, and even the SpongeBob line delivery (which people seem to think was bad when he clewrly was going for the Season 1 delivery???), that I think perfectly nails it. Even down to Mr. Krabs just walking into the kitchen more lowkey feels so specific to Season 1 Amazing work, and really cool to see cel animation being done in 2025!
Things like this make me genuinely yearn for this style again Call me a boomer or whatever people use for those that were kids at that time but that was genuinely a funny scene you all managed there ♡
This is a well known fact but the media that best nailed the whole cell animated look is Cuphead because they drew and animated everything on paper. The only thing they did digitally was coloring because they didnt see any noticeable difference
How did they perfectly draw the first season style back then? Like perfectly everyday without error, and yet people today doing precisely what they did can't even come close to replicating it?
absolutely INSANE work from everyone!! i think the only issue that would have made it perfect was just the audio mixing, but it cant be helped. unless you could manage to fly every v/a into the same recording studio just for two lines, what we have is the very best it could be! and the dedication to the cels is insane. its one of those things that no matter how much i know about it, its will never fail to bewilder me!
One thing I’ve noticed about modern SpongeBob is its actually written pretty well, but the new animation and even the pacing sometimes gets in the way of good jokes. This was amazing, will always prefer the older style of animation
@stinthad I kinda agree, what I mean is a lot of episodes focus so much on the visual comedy of the show, it doesn't leave a lot of time to flesh the stories out. And I think a lot of modern episodes have good story ideas. (not all of them but some)
@@Cranberry-z1yI don’t know what you mean by that. If the earlier seasons were able to make the characters enjoyable while also having good plot, why can’t they do the same for later seasons? I think it’s because they’ve butchered the characters to the point they’re hardly recognizable but they were once still good characters.
The “never leave home without it line” actually got a pretty good laugh out of me. Honestly, what you were able to make by yourself that usually takes a team of writers and animators to make was pretty good.
The pause On the teeth in the beginning plss 😂 and omgg u guys did so well it actually looks like a episode in the Early seasons 😭😭 even the pauses I love itttt its not over the top but still authentic and humorous. @@quangamershyguyyz7166and that’s what makes me hate the new spongbob seasons, it’s a bit too lively. I just want it to be a bit slower, a time for us to absorb the episode and enjoy the build up to a joke or to just understand and realise the joke, cause newer spongbob episodes are just way too fast for me to even understand what the joke or most of the plot is. Like hell the random episode about toilets in bikini bottoms “Super Bowl” has a snake, bad piping, SpongeBob and squidward finding Mr Krabs vault, and a random sword fish dude that’s a plumber and is for some reason extremely serious? Jut typing makes it sound like a fever dream. Now of course not all modern spongbob is bad.

If I didn’t know better, I would’ve thought that that clip was from a real episode. It looks so real! I love the effort that everyone contributed in this project!!!
This was a great watch! The animation definitely hits that season 1 vibe for sure, and the writing also gives off a similar tone. Awesome work! Hmu if you're ever looking for SpongeBob character voices in the future, would be dope to be a part of a project like this!
8:40 I totally agree. I think old school animation really encapsulates the Japanese idea of wabi-sabi (beauty in imperfection). There's a grit to analog animation that just gets lost when everything is so clean.
I've always been so sad that I have hundreds of SpongeBob episodes I've never seen because they're all WAY too overly animated, the jokes are half-thought, and there's essentially no plot anymore-just a bunch of events compiled into 11 minutes. So even this 40-second tidbit was honestly a treat and threw me way back. :)
Even if it's not a perfect replica of Classic SpongeBob, everything about the pacing and dialogue feels so much closer to a pre-movie episode than the actual Season 14 episode that it makes a massive difference. The actual Season 14 scene made me smirk but your remake made me laugh out loud with how good the comedic timing was.

Thank you so much for supporting real artists 🧡 This was beautifully done! One thing I notice about authentic-looking "simulated cel animation" is that they include the "xerox lines" thay appear behind painted cels that don't lay flush against the background during the photography process. It's that little natural drop-shadow thay occasionally shows up in old cartoons. It's interesting to note that much of what we think of as "authentic" in this case are actually the subtle imperfections that were left behind during the editing process.
This is the most impressive recreation of Season 1's animation I've ever seen. The clever idea of using digital lineart as a reference for the cel animation is astonishing to me. Absolutely stunning.
IM SPEECHLESS The video has a great pace, you manage to give some information on how animation is made vs how it used to be made, you got some amazing artist to work on the proyect and the final result is very very very spot on. Congrats dude this is pure gold
That's incredible! I especially liked the use of a greenscreened person, I always love when spongebob would completely break the animation format for a quick joke, and that one works wonderfully. I think the only thing that could improve it is adding a very slight blur that can be seen in old spongebob, I'm not sure what caused it, but old spongebob never quite felt entirely in focus.
The old Spongebob without 100 things moving all the time is just better
If it were still the old style then people would still complain
@I_Eat_Lemons i wouldnt
@I_Eat_Lemons The writing is also a problem.
@I_Eat_Lemons probably, they need to do old writing as well to make it good. If they had the old art style but it still had their weird modern humor it just wouldn’t feel right

Amazing work!! and very cool that you pretty much made a shoutout to those amazing artists/VAs in the video too.
Hollow Knight?
Bro you won't believe this but I was just in the process of making the EXACT same video lol I have half the cels done. You did a marvelous job!
Me subbing to you so that I can see your final video xD
good luck
Keep making that video! I wanna see it.
Don't give up!
Can't wait to see it!
When he said "Get back to work boy." I actually laughed, Also the human actor inside dancing was also kinda funny,
Good job!
"The Dialogue was stupid--"
Dude... that line about the Titanic and Spongebobs reaction got me. It got me good. I laughed
The Cthulu joke caught me by surprise - I laughed so hard, it truly feels like a joke straight out of early SpongeBob. This is a great video and you did an excellent job with all of it!!
Its funny how there were 1 or 2 actors that actually nailed the spongebob voice in the "wrong" section while the "perfect" one sounds like absolute dogshit lmao
Ong😭😭
The commitment to actually animate this with ACTUAL CEL SHEETS is beyond impressive. I think it really sold that Season 1 look and feel.
The old seasons in Spongebob really gives off that good krust.
The dialog was a little slow and voice acting was a little more jank, but overall its super faithful and yall should be proud.
I agree lol. The squidward voice was the only one that could've fooled me.
@@ascentiall yeah the squidward was really really good
Agreed. Lots of people are complaining about how the voices were off, and that's just plain rude. Considering he could have gone with AI, I'm happy to see him going with real voice actors, even if they weren't spot on. The effort put into this was already incredible, so the small bits of jank just make it more endearing.
14:35 that “Comin’ right up!” was literally perfect 💯
The fact that you didn’t use AI and got actual artists and actors for this really pays off in the end. And doing actual CEL ANIMATION? That’s fucking sick. Your dedication to this project shows!
should've gone with the ai
@@stevenwilson7137 Voice actors are timeless, even if bad. AI is dated every day.
@@stevenwilson7137No ❤️
@@stevenwilson7137 nope, AI is trash and will never be real art
@@stevenwilson7137 That's lazy, and it takes away job opportunities.
Original Spongebob has an incredibly high and bright voice. Even the official replacement sounds like Spongebob finally hit puberty.
This is one of the most dedicated _behind the scenes_ looks of a fandom project that i have seen!
Thank you *SO MUCH* for doing this!!!
As good as this was, spongebob impersonator still doesnt sound like spongebob
Finally someone said it
sounds better at 1.25 speed
Is Tom Kenny retired?
The green screen costume "i never leave home without it" really sells it for me. Good work!
i feel like cel animation was the purest form of this style. Nothing will ever come close to the feeling you get from these cartoons. Thanks for this man.
You said you "wasted" your time a couple times in this vid, and I just want to say that I absolutely don't think this was wasted time. It was incredible to see, even for but a moment, what Spongebob could have been.
Yeah, that's not wasted, just a time investment in a project.
The part where Mr. Krabs and Spongebob are staring at each other with the "was the titanic safe? No" very much feels like season 1
I actually laughed. Genuinely laughed. Timing and good jokes are what made SpongeBob great, the animation was just a vehicle to deliver them to us
The slower pace really illustrates the difference of humor from the old episodes. Awkward pauses, blank stares, deadpan delivery. New Spongebob is ADHD-ridden slop. Thank you for trying to preserve the old ways.
Sorry, but I’m not a fan of boring sitcom crap humor in my SpongeBob show
@@quangamershyguyyz7166 So you are the only person who did not enjoy season 1-3?
I got to keep up with that tick tock attention span
@@quangamershyguyyz7166if you like brain rot with 0 intelligence or thought in it’s jokes, just say that. @@quangamershyguyyz7166 New SpongeBob is peak boring sitcom crap humor.
Hey! One of the editors of Conch Street Gaming here! I'm glad to see that the channel is getting more recognition along with the crew members as well. Great animation, keep it up!
Thanks, you guys keep it up too!!
Krabs just walking into the kitchen more lowkey feels so specific to Season 1
Amazing work, and really cool to see cel animation being done in 2025!
I love the soul of cuthulu appearing in the little jar
Things like this make me genuinely yearn for this style again
Call me a boomer or whatever people use for those that were kids at that time but that was genuinely a funny scene you all managed there ♡
This is a well known fact but the media that best nailed the whole cell animated look is Cuphead because they drew and animated everything on paper. The only thing they did digitally was coloring because they didnt see any noticeable difference
How did they perfectly draw the first season style back then? Like perfectly everyday without error, and yet people today doing precisely what they did can't even come close to replicating it?
I do not think these people want things to look like they used to, which is the crux of the issue.
Because the animators had years of experience working on cels, and used a technique that had been refined for nearly a century at that point.
They move slowly and follow the model sheets. If you get something wrong you can trace the model sheets.
tracing model sheets plus all of the parts would be handled by different people and obviously revised by the animation director for revisions.
lots and lots of model sheets
absolutely INSANE work from everyone!! i think the only issue that would have made it perfect was just the audio mixing, but it cant be helped. unless you could manage to fly every v/a into the same recording studio just for two lines, what we have is the very best it could be! and the dedication to the cels is insane. its one of those things that no matter how much i know about it, its will never fail to bewilder me!
One thing I’ve noticed about modern SpongeBob is its actually written pretty well, but the new animation and even the pacing sometimes gets in the way of good jokes. This was amazing, will always prefer the older style of animation
Don't know about them being written well. I mean, the episode that was replicated here doesn't even have a story to speak of.
@stinthad I kinda agree, what I mean is a lot of episodes focus so much on the visual comedy of the show, it doesn't leave a lot of time to flesh the stories out. And I think a lot of modern episodes have good story ideas. (not all of them but some)
The characters are still pretty hard to enjoy. No amount of good writing can fix the awful characters meant to move the plot forward
Yo crazy I used to watch you all the time when I was younger!
The pause
On the teeth in the beginning plss 😂 and omgg u guys did so well it actually looks like a episode in the Early seasons 😭😭 even the pauses I love itttt its not over the top but still authentic and humorous. I wish they still made it like this they need to think about hiring y’all for ideas !
No AI background, No AI animations, No AI voice actors?! NO AI?!?!? Gosh this makes me happy!
why are you so obsessive with things not having ai
so what if it does have ai? you're gonna cry about it?

@avonire yeah but it's so random, we're talking about spongebob animation suddenly there is ai now????
We all know ai can't achieve this level of perfection so why say it?
@CeruleanC they were just pointing out something good from the video, nothing wrong with that
I’m glad that you did the backstory and not just the clip itself. I learned a lot about animation from watching this.
SpongeBob replying “no” to krabs titanic question felt so much like classic SpongeBob I couldn’t believe it
The live action green screen of Cthulhu's soul was 100% old SpongeBob. Well done! This was a clear labor of love and I loved it!
100% right with the "now they're animated over the top".
It's so hard to look at
I personally like it, I thought the middle seasons were way too stiff
@@sickaffair The newer animation looks gross imo. The simpler animation is what gave old SpongeBob its charm.
I love the over the top animations. It makes the newer seasons feel so much more lively now
@@quangamershyguyyz7166and that’s what makes me hate the new spongbob seasons, it’s a bit too lively.
I love that you showed and cited your inspirations and collabs! It felt wholesome. It reminded me that making art is at its best when it's collaborative. Great video!
Wow, this is incredibly well made! I'm a HUGE fan of accurately recreating early stages of media.

For all that about finding the "Perfect spongebob voice" The guy you found sounds nothing like him lmao
Yeah cuz aside from Tom Kenny there's no one to fill his role perfectly
For me, the only one that was almost spot on was the one at 4:51
Those 30 seconds were much better than anything the actual show did in the last 20 years.
SUCH an underrated peace of art! Always was a fan of old spongebob seasons and its really beautiful to see project like this in our time. Voices and animation are perfect! Keep cooking, Macaroni! :P

I'd just like to thank your for content like this. You not only had a very interesting idea, but you went all in on developing it and truly coming out with something that feels worth watching.
As far as simple enternainment goes, these were the best 17min I have spent on RUclips in a while :)
The spirit is definitely there. I'd take you on for a production. This was refreshing to see and I think your references were solid. That titanic talk was legit.
The way he just says "...no..." at the Titanic line is just crazy.
Wow, this is quite well done! You really nailed the comedic timing and feel of it, and the old-school cel animation is really cool! Great job.
Bro, this looks so real It looks like he was actually an employee from Nickelodeon Studios you make the most beautiful animation
If I didn’t know better, I would’ve thought that that clip was from a real episode. It looks so real! I love the effort that everyone contributed in this project!!!
INCREDIBLE!!! The work you put into this is so admirable. Well done!!
This was a great watch! The animation definitely hits that season 1 vibe for sure, and the writing also gives off a similar tone. Awesome work! Hmu if you're ever looking for SpongeBob character voices in the future, would be dope to be a part of a project like this!
Hey bro! I won't lie, I was actually planning to put in a good word for you😆 I'd love to work with you on another one of these!
This is so well done my guy! There’s something about that season 1 style that no other season matches honestly.
Hello, I like your RUclips posts. 🫠
@ thank you. 😊
Even if it's not a perfect replica of Classic SpongeBob, everything about the pacing and dialogue feels so much closer to a pre-movie episode than the actual Season 14 episode that it makes a massive difference. The actual Season 14 scene made me smirk but your remake made me laugh out loud with how good the comedic timing was.
this final of "soul of cthulhu" broke me, hahaha. good job, good job. i like your channel.
THIS VIDEO IS INSANE!!!!!! Dude I had 0 clue you would push yourself to do full on cel animation and it turned out amazing. I'm so happy I provided my voice for this and everyone else did an incredible job. I ain't gonna stop impersonating his voice anytime soon and I have more motivation to practice now than ever!!

Don't forget the 2D artist as well ;))
Thank you so much for supporting real artists 🧡
This was beautifully done! One thing I notice about authentic-looking "simulated cel animation" is that they include the "xerox lines" thay appear behind painted cels that don't lay flush against the background during the photography process. It's that little natural drop-shadow thay occasionally shows up in old cartoons.
It's interesting to note that much of what we think of as "authentic" in this case are actually the subtle imperfections that were left behind during the editing process.
ok but what an incredible feat??? i hope everyone involved is super proud!! + i actually, legitimately LOL'd at the titanic joke!!!!!
"Never leave home without it."
Chuthulu: 🕺💃🕺💃🕺💃🕺💃
This is the most impressive recreation of Season 1's animation I've ever seen.
The clever idea of using digital lineart as a reference for the cel animation is astonishing to me.
Absolutely stunning.
IM SPEECHLESS
The video has a great pace, you manage to give some information on how animation is made vs how it used to be made, you got some amazing artist to work on the proyect and the final result is very very very spot on.
