Is this the coolest PRADO in the world? Toyota 70 series landcruiser resprayed bundera 4x4 not a 79

  • Finally got hold of my old KZJ78 Landcruiser prado. This was my biggest build having completely resprayed the 4x4 as well as swapping the entire front end. I imported it from japan and have done all of the work myself. I think this is by far the coolest prado in the entire world, and would place it above alot of landcruisers too! the best 70 series made!

But there is a land cruiser / off roader meet at the toyota germany area near cologne this saturday - with a bit of luck he shows up with one of his builds (he also did a double cab 79 pick up V8 diesel with the 1980s narrow front end).

    Such a sick prado! I just got my 93 kzj78 a few months back and only the intercooler to do, I'm deciding to swap the front eith either a bundera or the VDJ front, which ever one is the less headache

    • @onstreetgarage
      @onstreetgarage  Год назад +3

      Hey man thanks for the kind words! In my research I found the bundera was way less work. The vdj front needs you to weld up some steel section to lengthen the chassis at the front and widen it out a little. The bundera front is straight bolt on, not a single weld or cut required.
      If I had my time again with the Intercooler id probably go front mount. Top mounts aren’t all that efficient and the top mount was an extremely tight fit

    • @christianryu2687
      @christianryu2687 Год назад +1

      @ONSTREET GARAGE hmm that's interesting, I'll really consider the bundera then, yours look so good and would be a dope project, I'll definitely start to look up the front mount, I agree seems like the more efficient method

      Hey mate thanks! Awesome you got one they’re great cars. In hindsight as I wasn’t doing any hard off-roading I would’ve put some upgraded swaybars in. It’s also worth swapping out the bushes under the car with genuine rubber as that makes them handle a lot better too if they’re worn

    • @davidglynn8012

      I have had poly bushes in my 4x4’s before and am not a fan of them. They don’t ride as nice and tend to wear out quicker also. I suppose it comes down to personal preference I like the way genuine ride though 👍🏼

    Brilliant ! im planning to buy one myself.. however I have one question 'does this car use the same front and rear axle as the 76 series or 80 series ? because incase i need spares then i may find it difficult to source ..we do have plenty of 76 series here though. just wanted to know ?

    • @onstreetgarage
      @onstreetgarage  Год назад

      Hey great question! I know these share the same front 8” high pinion diffs as the 80 series but the rear diff is different. From memory the rear diff was closer to a hilux/surf

    • @CosmicMantis
      @CosmicMantis Год назад +1

      @@onstreetgarage Aha thanx for the input ! in that case i guess the front diff is the same as the 60 or 76/79 series because i saw Shaun from 4WD 24/7 youtube channel remove one from an 80 series and fitted it to his 76 or 60 series land cruiser. Was thinking of removing the 1KZ engine and swaping ina 1GD or 2GD engine which is newer to the 1KZ and 1KD... what do you think ? how is your milleage by the way with the 1KZ Auto ?

    • @onstreetgarage
      @onstreetgarage  Год назад

      I think that engine swap would fix my least favourite part about the car. The 1kz in stock form was a bit of a slug with the auto.
      I’d be interested to see how one went with the boost turned up and a couple of supporting mods but a GD engine swap would be a better fix long term I reckon. That would be a very unique rig with that swap 👍🏼

    Awesome truck. I have a 95 KZJ78. I noticed you said the intercooler bolted right up. I have an intercooler from a Hilux Surf (looks identical to yours) that I planned to put on mine, but it looks like the angle of the cold side of the intercooler is not the same as the barb off of the throttle body. Did you have to get the throttle body/ intake off the engine that donated the intercooler?

    • @onstreetgarage
      @onstreetgarage  5 месяцев назад

      Hey thanks mate. I bought my intercooler off a kzj91 prado. From memory I bought the intake manifold with the intercooler and swapped it at the same time 👍🏼

    • @chrisdrumheller4049
      @chrisdrumheller4049 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@onstreetgarage Thanks for the reply. Is the bundera RJ70 the same as the New Zealand FJ70 guards look slightly wider in the fj70 I’m hoping it will fit as I’d love to do this on mine in New Zealand but I know we don’t have the bundera here . Do you know the equivalent to the bundera ?

    • @onstreetgarage
      @onstreetgarage  9 месяцев назад

      The fj70 is slightly longer in the front end. I’ve seen people do the swap and the sides all bolted up but they had to extend the front mounting points to suit. It can definitely be done just a bit more work. Personally I prefer the look of the FJ70 after doing my swap. It’d look like a HZJ77 😍

    One of the most uncanny Cruisers out there, if you either own a 76 or if you never got the 70 Prado in your territory.
    Pun intended, but the custom front looks cheeky.
    The rear windows look a bit different/ more old school than the 76.
    The way it moved when you got in is so weird to see, leaf springs can only dream of doing that.
