Growing up, our cat stole a piece of chicken off of my mother's dinner plate. My mother got upset and put her outside. A while later, she was meowing at the door. When she came in she had a dead bird in her mouth that she brought to my mother and dropped it at her feet.

My cat puked on my difficult-to-clean couch once. I had already had a terrible day, and when I saw the cat puke I just broke down sobbing. I cried the entire time I was cleaning it up, while my cat watched. A couple days after that, I came home to find a random cleaning rag on the floor. Underneath the rag was cat puke. I think she realized that she had upset me a lot and tried to make up for it by either hiding it or maybe even attempting to clean it up. She had kidney problems and couldn't help the puking, but she made sure to never puke on the couch again. I miss her a lot.

@@Lisaliveswell Well, a vet diagnosed her 0:02 when she was around 11 years old. I know one of the signs was that her puke usually didn't contain food or hair, and she puked at least once every 2-3 days, sometimes more, especially toward the end. Another sign was the way she walked, especially after using the litter box. She also got a little better when we switched her to a prescription food for kidney issues. But she did live to be 16, which is pretty good.

Sometimes I'd use a harsh tone for pee or eaten books and that cat would look at the perpetrator and then run up to me happily. If she was at fault, she'd hide then I'd know to look out for a mess

She came right up to my ear and made a very unique, quick, passionate and strong purr and I was shaken and how much sense she had of how I was feeling. My cat has a bit of a temper, which is usually fine, but once she swiped and caught me in the face. I could tell she instantly knew she had hurt me, because she immediately got into a very "submissive" stance and then gently pressed her head up against me, once I started petting her she started purring loudly and we cuddled for awhile. Say what you want about "personifying" them, but she did a better job of saying sorry than most humans!

My cat accidentally scratched me hissed and made me bleed as a kitten.
He was so sorry he licked that spot for years.
He never even put his claws out again.
My kids would play with him tons.
They loved him but were rough.
Toss him around wear him as a hat put him on there shoulder like a parrot.
He loved my kids. He never once ran away or got upset.
He would go sleep in there bed till they feel asleep.
    He just loves people.
He never used his claws again.
He never got upset or hissed again. He always remembered that.
Now he would demand to go outside and get pissed if you closed the bedroom door.
He would go outside to play with kids and say hi to people.
There was tons of dogs. But dogs just ignore he exists? I am never did a dog ever bark at him.
He would lay in the sun most of the day greet people and hangout than come home when he wanted too.
I let him do his own thing. He never once didn’t come home.
I could also call him home or to come to me just making a clicking sound. He would come running.
If he was mad at me. He would wait till I was asleep pounce on my stomach and run away.
He also learned to cuddle with me from watching women.
So he would come lay with his head on my shoulder under the blankets
He never learned to meow so he just would squeak.
The most loving cat and human loving cat I have ever seen.
    He never would hide.
Just wanted to cuddle with someone never do his own thing.
I also trained him from a kitten to be like this for my kids.
He was famous in my apartment complex. Everyone would come by just to say hi to him. Pet him and he loved it.
Orange tabby main coon named tigger the tiger. As he had strips and large paws like a tiger. I really miss him.
I found it amazing. Thought I would share.

One of my cats moved their kittens and while doing so, she incidentally bite one a bit too hard while jumping. The kitten cried in pain and she apologized a lot. She was mortified.
The same happened once with me while she scratched my leg quite badly while jumping on my lap.
So, yes, cats do apologize much in the same way we do, for the same reasons.
And, as I read here in the comments, even with gifts in exchange for stolen food.
One of my cats also apologized to me bringing her kitten to look after, because she had not enough milk. That was the most complex conversation with a cat I ever had and it was heartbreaking. She was so thankful that I could give her little one the bottle!

This is an excellent video. Cats are a lot more tuned into us than we realize, and it's great that scientists are starting to seriously study their interaction with us. I am especially glad that the myth that they don't need as much attention as dogs is being debunked. Cats do need attention, but of a different kind. If I have been really busy or outside my home for many hours, my cats will be all over me when I get home. When I've taken trips, they're battling for lap and cuddle time the instant I sit down. While I know that they don't directly understand what I say, I still tell them about things that are important to them, like visitors, or bad weather. When I moved house, I told them, and they settled in nicely. Our cats take their cues from us- if we're calm, they'll be calm too- even when things get crazy.

The first time my cat apologized was a few days after I adopted him. They warned me that he had kind of a temper, but I didn't think it was that bad. After a couple days he showed me his temper for the first time and grabbed onto my arm out of nowhere. I yelled no and stop! He took off running. About minutes later, he came back to me with his head hung low and eyes looking up, he then cuddled with with me. He kinda has a bad temper for some reason, but we get along puurrrrfectly!

    • @TheLadyJovia
      @TheLadyJovia 9 месяцев назад +4

sounds like ptsd actually, probably had something bad happen to him before. we have 3 cats, sisters. We know they were thrown into a neighbors back yard in a box for their dog to eat and so one of the girl's tear ducts in one of her eyes is destroyed. But we also found out over the years they are terrified of men in trench coats and huge boots. Huge shoes in general that make loud steps in general cause them some fright. But mom's ex who they knew for 13 years ever since we got them, he once walked in like that and poof they ran and hid.
Or brain damage, a rabbit we rescued had brain damage and didn't know how to act like a rabbit, took another rabbit 2 years to show her how to groom herself. But as time went on they couldn't stay together because she didn't know rabbit manners, and so the other rabbit eventually got fed up and started attacking. Nvm brain damaged rabbit started biting randomly as the damage got worse as she aged.
but hey he came back to apologize, and that was just a few days after adoption. usually cats take a week or longer to get used to you after adoption so just that alone says great things. He might have temper again in the future but he loves you in his own way already.

The above commenter could possibly be right. I didn’t know animals could get PTSD until I came across a RUclips channel that told the story of a chihuahua named Porter. The poor, sweet babe! He’d been used as a bait dog in dog fighting and still has mental scars years later!
We’ve all seen dogs dream, but I’d never seen a dog have a nightmare before Porter. The poor dear was crying out in his sleep and urinated in fear!
Thankfully, he’s under the care of a gentle, old man now who treats him with the kindness he deserves!

Already commented, but I also really wanted to commend you for taking in a cat with an “attitude”. You might have saved that cat’s life, and if not that, saved them from being stuck in a kennel for years and years while other cats around them find their forever homes. I noticed that my cat Lotta always looks very confused snd concerned whenever a member of our family is upset. And her response is often to initiate play time and following the upset person around the house.
I once had a mental breakdown when I found my pet snake Kenny dead in its terrarium and Lotta was looking extremely concerned and meowing at my mom and me. She also sniffed around a lot and followed us while also inspecting the cardboard box, where we put my snake in. Later we gave Kenny a proper grave in our garden.
She definitely understood how devastating the loss of Kenny was to me and she was concerned about my well being.

@leel.5818 I actually do have 2 trays, he just seemed kind of intimidated by the idea of the litter tray in general for a little while. You are right about my housemate though. He tends to treat animals like they can reason like a human. He shouts at my dog too even though you don't need to shout at the dog. When he barks you just get his attention and he stops. Keep telling my housemate that but he keeps trying to tell me I'm not strict enough. Some people just can't seem to understand that animals don't think in the same way we do. Whatever the case the housemate is moving out in a couple days so everything will settle down again soon.

I know for a fact Cats apologise and mean it the exact same way we do. One of my cats was born with 3 legs, she has no front right leg, as a result she needs to use her claws on her front left paw to stop herself from sliding off chairs, beds etc when she jumps onto them. This has lead to many many occasions where she has had to dig her claws into me lol, I always show her that it’s not her fault and try not to react too much when it happens but when it happens when I am asleep it’s a lot more difficult to restrain a reaction as it is just natural to jump up quick and rub the area she dig her claws into me. At the beginning my reaction use to scare her and she would run away but after many times of picking her up and petting her to let her know it’s ok it’s not her fault, she now reacts differently instead of running when I jump wake, she bumps her head into me a licks my forehead for a second before curling up beside me.

My cat would apologize if she scratched by accident during playtime, after I cried out in pain once. She used to not understand when I just said no or stopped (or rather, she knew it meant I was displeased, but she couldn't see why I should be), but letting myself be a little dramatic about the pain made her get it. She became very mindful of my hands from then on, and would immediately give me space if she missed her toy and got my hand/thigh on accident during play.

She saw me and flopped on her back to show me her belly. I knew that she was apologizing to me. I felt bad for being mad at her for missing me.

He got me good one time playing "thing under the blanket" and got a bit overzealous. I wasn't mad but had to clean and rinse and get a bandage. Some people are not prepared for cats. People should remember :
-get rid of plants at home
-give your cats safe places and peaceful environment
-cats should have their own pillows in bed
-fresh water and dry food always availaible. Cats often eat at night.
-spend time with them. If you are a busy person, do not get a cat.

But when I'm angry or stressed, he'll keep his distance and waits for me to calm down first. One time he was being really annoying, like clinging really close to my boyfriend, not giving him any space. Later my boyfriend actually had a migraine and Rox was still there. We figured he had already noticed and was trying to help. So he just was making sure to try and comfort my boyfriend. Rox had curled up in his arms purring until my boyfriend felt better. It was cute to see. He's such an affectionate cat.

I met my cat when she was still a stray. I would feed her and she would hide in my yard when the school bus came around. She would follow me when i did yard work. She has this habit of smacking things into the ground. One day while gardening while lightly weeding she smacked my hand and she broke skin, I yelped, I was bleeding and I panicked, ran inside, washed and went to the doctors because Im immune compromised and this was the first time she had ever gotten this close to me. Doc laughed at me said it was superficial and I was fine. This cat. Since then has only ever butted her nose to my hand and or gently tapped my hand. She bats everyone elses hand, but for me she hold up her paw and pushes away or reaches if she doesnt want or wants something from me.😂 she also brought me a wild pheasant after that...which i didnt know they were wild around me but later did learned they are. She never brought me any other bird except thay one...and 2 mice.

My cat, Shadow, used to go and fetch baby birds from their nests, which upset me a lot. So I bought a plant sprayer and every time he sat under the tree with the nests, I'd spray him. He had no idea what was coming the first time, and shot over the fence and disappeared. At this point I hadn't fully accepted that I'd been adopted, so thought if he doesn't come back he's probably gone back home. After 30 minutes, back he slunk, weaving around my legs! He definitely knew he was in the wrong. It only took a couple more times, showing rather than using the spray, and now he leaves the birds be. Happily. My neighbour has adopted a little girl cat and I spotted her little ginger ears poking out of the plants around my bird feeder, so she also got a little shower. Off she shot and I was nervous cos she's not my cat but I look after her when my neighbour is away. But I needn't have worries, back she came, meowing at the door to be let in. She doesn't respect boundaries! Your house, my house is her motto.

Apologize would imply a feeling of guilt... they do not feel guilty. They simply see you acting in a way they find uncomfortable and attempt to make that behavior change with behavior of their own that they have experienced to trigger behavior patters in you that are more comfortable for them. The key to take away is they do not feel guilt, they do not see their actions as the problem but rather your reaction to their actions as the problem.

My girl Willow, we had gotten her years ago from someone who had a boyfriend who treated her like garbage. Either she was kicked or hit, we aren't sure, all we know is that her side was a sensitive spot for her to be touched, and she HATED being locked in any rooms, especially alone. While petting her, during the first year or two that we had her, she would suddenly turn and bite, hard, without any warning. It got the point where I actively became afraid to touch her despite her begging for attention, I'd just flinch away, not wanting to risk another bite. She would watch me, and eventually, stopped biting me. Instead when my hand neared or touched the spot that was sensitive, she turned her head slowly, mouth open as a warning, to give me time to pull my hand away. She didn't do that to anyone else, only me. She isn't as forgiving now, but she doesn't usually have a reason to bite. Usually she goes to scratching instead when I piss her off somehow.

When I was all cleaned up I called him over and we cuddled. when i raised a kitten, it was very playful with me and had needle-like claws, and when i cried owww, my kitten looked at me like "I didn't know that would hurt, and I didn't mean to hurt you" and she immediately was more gentle. They don't want to hurt you, and most cats only do when you keep doing something that annoys them. Cats have very sensitive skin, pet them with a light touch. Over time, they may become less sensitive to strong petting, or they may come to resent you for it. So start out with an extremely light touch.

In general, that's not too far off from human guilt. After all, what is guilt but a sense of needing to restore a social order?

I was feeding a family cat some fish i just caught and she accidentally bit me in the finger when eating so i started bleeding a lot. Then she hid in the bedroom for hours and was quite subdued. I went to her after and pet her and talked with her to calm her and show her i loved her. I think she was sorry. :)

We recently had our microwave malfunction and had to get it replaced. Unfortunately, the way it happened was it made a godawful noise and the inner light started flickering while my girl Sheila was right by my feet, and in her haste to get away from the noise, she launched herself off the top of my (bare) foot. I think she was scared by not only the noise, but also my yell of pain, and she did apologize to me by doing the stare, and then coming over to rest on the back of the couch right near my head…and eventually let me pet her. My poor baby girl 🥹

My cat is super chill. He doesn’t scratch on furniture. He doesn’t jump on the counters. I understand that he has boundaries, he doesn’t like it when I invade his personal space when he’s relaxing.

if you get a kitten, give them regular loving attention - if they're recently separated from their mother, you have to figure they are going through a big change. They need warmth, and gentle care as they transition to loving what you provide for them instead of their mother.

My cat Dyrroth cuddles with me everytime he did something wrong. It’s cute that he does that.
