My Precious lived 19 years...well into old age. She slept under the blankets with me & was a great comfort to me. She felt sorry when I had periodontal surgery...put her head on my shoulder & a paw on my cheek. She probably smelled the state of my gums. She felt bad for me, but what a comfort! I'll never have another like her. Right now I'm left with 4. 2 ferals (born outside) & a kitten I kept. Three are tuxedos & Bella (who's unrelated to mama & her oldest/youngest son) is a striped tabby I guess but not orange coloring. THANKS FOR ALL THE COMMENTS & WARNINGS.

I was told by my vet that only *20% of orange tabbies are female* . I adopted Solis (Latin for sun) at The Humane Society. She was separated from other kittens because she was being treated for Giardiasis. Solis had her last dose of medication and was cleared for adoption. She was all alone and I heard her muffled little meow from behind the plexiglass. Once I held her I could just feel she was the one. She'll be 1 yrs old April first.

Female cats are less likely to be adopted because some people don't want to deal with them when they're in heat or pregnant but neither want to spend money spaying them. Also they usually state that "males are more independent, hunt more, and like to explore outside more" so basically, males are more desirable for these people because they're easier as outdoor cats because their owners are not willing to take care of them as much.

In Australia all the councils make the rescues make sure the kitten is desexed before handing over or has its desexing preincluded in the cost as you cannot register the cat, unless it's for breeding/unable to survive surgery. Even then that is way more expensive.
You can get lots of free and cheap desexing from various places and get cat that are already desexed at a low cost every so often.

Strange bcz I want female cats. They're less likely to be away, get in a fight then lose from another cat only to be kicked out of his territory, and pees anywhere like dogs do. My previous cat isn't spayed and she did just fine, no unwanted kittens come out of her. Might've consider doing that if her heat turns out to be hard to handle (for her), because as humans do, removing re0roductive organs have long term effects like obesity, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, etc.

    • @englishatheart
      @englishatheart 2 года назад +58

Or, you know, cats have different personalities just like people? I have had both my cats since they were born, one is a boy and one is a girl. My boy is way more affectionate than his sister. Just as a Siamese male who wandered into my yard several years back who had been through hell (abandoned, declawed, severely malnourished, blind in one eye, etc.) was way more affectionate than the female cat I had had since she was a kitten. Male cats being more affectionate most of the time may very well be true. That doesn't mean some female cats aren't capable of being just as or more affectionate. Same with humans. People constantly say that women are kinder and more compassionate than men, yet the worst people I have met have nearly always been women. The person who calls herself my "mother" is the biggest psycho, abuser, and narcissist I have ever met. It's called having different personalities.

My pet cat Fuzzy is a calico. When she was pregnant, she held off giving birth until my girlfriend and I were home from work. She got in our bed with us and meowed and we made a comfy little box and then she started to give birth. When the kittens got older, Fuzzy really wore her mom hat and taught them so much things. She had taught the kittens to jump atop our 7 ft refrigerator to steal my potato bread (my girlfriend didn't believe me until I recorded it). The amazing part about that was the kittens who couldn't do it right away. She taught them to jump on the table and then jump on the refrigerator. Once they got to the top she would jump up, pull them down and have them do it again until they mastered jumping.
When we had disgusting neighbors who had pet mice (that they left when they moved out causing an infestation) Fuzzy wasted no time teaching the kittens how to hunt them down. Weirdly, she would grab a mouse go over to the kitten she wanted to teach and drop the mouse next to them and block off any exits to the mouse so the kitten would learn the basics of hunting.
She even wanted us to visit her in her box when she was taking care of the kittens. We used to not do it as we didn't want to confuse her by putting our smell on the cats. She would come to were we are and have us follow her and visit her and the kittens. When she wanted time to herself she would come into my home office or the living room where my girlfriend was and drop off the kittens until she was able to recharge the batteries. The trust she had in us was astounding and really opened my eyes to how cats can really be affectionate, intelligent and warming to people.

(We don't live in an area with too many dangerous predators) We always left food out and let her choose when she wanted to come in or stay out. She would come in when weather was really bad but preferred to stay outside and catch her own food most of the time. She had a litter of kittens and raised them all by herself until adoption. Amazing survival instincts and the smartest cat iv ever known. She passed away at 20yrs from old age. I feel like she lived life to its fullest.

I think how affectionate a cat is definitly depends on personality and how they were treated. For example, 3 years ago I was adopted by a beautiful female Lilac Lynx Point Siamese. She'd been abused by former owners (based on her extreme reactions to innocent actions like putting a shoe on and spraying perfume) and eventually abandoned in my neighborhood. I was out walking one night and she followed me home. It's been 3 years since then. She's very attached to me, my sister and my mom. When my dad comes home she hides from him. She can be very loving (and protective) cat, however it does depend on if she likes the person. Males and strangers are a not welcomed by her.

    • @breadblair
      @breadblair 2 года назад +66

My first cat I think was abused then abandoned. She followed my dad from a bustop to the house. She was only fed tuna by her past owners as that was the only she would eat. Good tasting food not so great for health. She eventually got killed as a kitten by the neighbors dogs. A few days later my family and I found out that neighboe had been training her dogs to kill cats. I believe she did get arrested, but got bailed out very quickly. I wish she wasn't she deserves to be in there. She's toxic and verbally abuses her sons. I've heard it as well. I plan to record a conversation soon so I can at least get something done. I can't stand it honestly. The neighbor shouted at me for being on 'her property' when it was in my garden.

I went to the pound with my dad to pick out a kitten. We chose the most affectionate kitten there. They had her notated as a male, 4 mo old, orange kitten.
When we took her to get neutered from the same location they called us later to tell us we owed them extra money because she was female and they spayed her, instead of neutered. We told them they had informed us when we purchased her that she was made so they waived the extra fee. Now our female cat is named Kevin.

I have had male pet cats with maternal instincts. I've seen them guarding and watching over newborns and kittens. The most amazing thing i've seen is when one of my male cat watching over 3 small kittens saw them almost at the edge of the balcony (we used to live in the 2nd floor of an apartment building). He rushed to them and one by one and carried them back to their nest. Sometimes he'd just block them from getting near the edge.

We had a male cat and a puppy who was the runt of his litter.
The puppy developed an infection and our male cat jumped into the puppy's bed and wrapped himself around the poor puppy.
Our cat would also come and "remind" us when he thought it was time for puppy's medication.
Those two were inseparable for the rest of the cat's life.

I had named my Bellatrix (Bella for short she responded to both) after the witch in Harry Potter. She was a Grey Tabby as in her markings were tabby like but just all silver grey, instead of orange like other tabbies.(Her 3 brothers were colored and marked similarly just with a varying amount of orange on them) She was a tall cat sitting at 12-15 inches. Sadly she gave her life protecting her two kittens at the time and I wasn't around to assist (living on the rez many dangers not just other pets). I still have one of them, she isn't as tall or as long bella.

Btw, animals raised by humans from a young age DO see those humans as their parents. It's just that, most adult animals aren't exactly close to their parents so I personally think that they see those humans as companions/friends and not parents anymore

Right after Hurricane Nicholas passed (Tuesday, September 14th, 2021), a stray Torti found me and cried like she had seen a murder, and when walked into my apartment without hesitation. I took her to the vet the next day for a medical assessment, to check for a microchip in case she was a lost pet, and to gain information on her age, type, and best care practices going forward. It's been almost two weeks now since we met and her name is Macchiato because, despite how hyped up and jittery she was when we met, she has been nothing but mellow and sweet afterwards -- and with me having been a Starbucks barista for almost nine years, it seems like a perfect fit. She's my first personal pet, too, and I could not have asked for a better one.

People of course doubt what he said coz it's strange but it's actually believable, he makes most of their food and by doing that he can directly control the nutrients they take in. But in cases where cats are raised from store bought wet it's not gonna be sure to live super long coz those foods are still processed. It's just like how many people who eat more homemade than can food are healthier

She'd visit me while I slept & would sit in my lap. She'd gobble up turkey during Thanksgiving even when she no longer had teeth. She was motherly to us kids & the other cats our family eventually adopted (2 males who unfortunately did not live nearly as long due to urethral blockage). I was heartbroken when she passed but so grateful to have shared such a bond with her during my childhood & early adulthood.
Years later I still see her in my dreams & out of the corner of my eye sometimes. I believe she's still watching over me, & I hope my current cat Rudy has her blessing to live a long life as well.

My husband and I adopted 9 from an animal control facility. Since we don’t believe in separating mommas from their babies, or siblings from each other, this is how we got 9.
We were told that our long haired tabby was male when we adopted the kitty, along with their momma and brother, but we had to bring the kitty to the vet, and that’s when we found out that the cat wasn’t a male but a female long haired tabby, which is a very rare breed. The vet told us we could have made some money if she were to have any kittens, but she, along with the other cats, were spayed and neutered when they hit 4 lbs. She does have a brother that’s a black cat with a small patch of white on his chest, and the mother is a calico.
We adopted a big momma tortoise and her daughter. A week before we adopted them, someone had fostered the momma then brought her back saying she was too affectionate, sheds a lot, and the older cat that they had didn’t get along with her. We saw 3 brothers sitting in a cage all by themselves, because their momma was euthanized the week before. They’re one black cat, one gray cat, and the other an orange tabby.
The last one was in this huge cage all by himself. As soon as he saw us, he began to meow, and that caught our hearts. He’s all black with a patch of white on his chest.
Each one was scheduled to be euthanized the day after we had adopted them, so if we didn’t grab them up, they’d be in Heaven now. They all are our absolute joy. They completed our home, which took us years to buy our first home (we lost the mobile home we had been renting in a fire, and we had lost 90% of everything, including 4 cats with one just having a litter and our dog..a neighbor, after we paid them to look after our animals since we were going to be gone for a few days, took our money and didn’t care to look after our animals, and we found out about the fire when we came back and the neighbor went on vacation), and we wanted kitties to complete our home.
They’re absolutely spoiled! They REFUSE to eat the Pate canned food, and they get fed the canned food every other day. They get fed their treats, on a plate, once a day. Their hard food gets changed every day. I clean their litter boxes every 3-4 hours, and they’re used to me doing this.
Their names are: Catsy, Fluffer-Nutter (she’s the long haired tabby, and she looks like the sandwich, Fluffer-Nutter, and she’s as sweet as one), Midnight, Precious, Tiger, Smokey, Pookie, Osiris, and Blackie. I’m a proud “momma” of them all. I’m their slave! They run the house, and we just stay here and pay the bills.
I taught Pookie, Tiger, and Osiris to fetch one of their toys, and bring it to me, so we can play. Pookie LOVES the feather toy, and he brings it on the bed, hides it by me, and the second he hears the bell on the toy make a sound ( no matter where he’s at in the house), he’s on the bed wanting to play. Yes, he also carries it around with him.
I wouldn’t change a single thing about any of them. However, we did notice some peculiar things about them; we think they were abused at some point, and were denied access to food. The 3 brothers (Pookie, Smokey, and Osiris) are somewhat aggressive when they eat their moist food, but we watch to make sure that they all eat. We set out 3 plates, and 3 cats each from one. They’re starting to settle down with being aggressive when eating. Smokey runs away from us. We give him lovings, kisses, and we make sure he knows that he’s loved, but he still runs from us. We don’t know why he does that. He’s the only one that does. So, if anyone has any advice on how we can stop him from running from us, I’d appreciate it!!
Take care of yourselves and your furry babies!!! God bless all of you, your families, and your furry babies!!!

I have a long haired black female cat named Sonja Morgan (Sonni) and she is the sweetest girl ever. Every morning when I m drinking my coffee and reading she will sit on my porch with me just waiting for people to walk by. As soon as they do she darts down the steps and takes the belly rub position. Most of my neighbors know her as well and some have changed their walks just to stop and see her. I was told by our neighborhood cat lady she is a Tiffany Chantilly, I don't know about that since we got her at the Humane Society, but I do know she is as sweet and loving as any male cat there is, she changed this decades long dog person into a cat and dog person ❤

About 27 years ago I was going to get a kitten from my Aunt. One of her momma cats had a litter of 8. They were half wild and after almost 2 hours of trying to catch the one I wanted I finally just decided that whichever one I caught would be the one. It was a Tortie. When we got home I looked and noticed that it was a male. Hubby didn't believe me until he checked. But I decided that I would let our vet confirm.
Once at the vet, he kept telling me that it was near impossible that my Tortie was a male and that I was wrong. That is until he checked. His eyes got big and he looked at me then said in a hushed voice, "This Tortie is a (slight pause) male!"
Named our Tortie 'Patches' and that cat became best friends with our Great Pyrenees/Collie mix female. Our blonde dog would lay down and our dark cat would crawl up and lay on the dogs shoulder and they would nap like that for hours ☺️ Our dog was quite sad when Patches disappeared.
But at least I have proof that we did once have a male Tortie 😎

I grew up in a very rural area and there was always cats around, but with (ahhem) brief lives. We did not let them stay in the house. Fast forward to now...We have four mostly indoor cats. Two of them turned 10 this year! My girls Silver and Marmalade (SHE'S an orange 'bullseye tabby) were strays who arrived at our house within about 4 or 5 months of each other. Marmalade was malnourished and had lost part of her tail at some point. She's super affectionate, chatty and would rather hang out on the porch than inside. Silver is The (feline) Queen (we have an older boss dog). She used to wander, but a glacing encounter with a car(we think), about 5 years ago has caused her to stick VERY close to home! She is a Grey tabby who distinguished herself with our Vet because she had a unique internal organ configuration. Her bladder and uterus are fused together! He said that it was a first for him. I don't think Silver cares.😅 Keep these great videos coming!😻😻

I have a Siamese Lynx Point female named Bella. My son got her as a kitten, but I have taken care of her since she was about 2-3 years old. She is 8 years old now. The top of her head, ears and back have the tan and brown color of a Siamese, but her face, legs and tail look more like a grey tabby. There is a line on top of her head between her ears that separates the tabby from the Siamese. She is very talkative like a Siamese, and she has beautiful blue/grey eyes. I had her for about 6 months before she would even let me pet her a little, but she would jump in the laps of women. One day, after about six months, she jumped in my lap and purred and let me pet her. I felt so honored that she would let me love her. Now she jumps in my lap every day and wants me to scratch her stomach. She sleeps with me most nights. When my alarm goes off in the morning, she meows and wants me to rub her back. She has become such a sweet cat!

I have always been a dog person until I met my girlfriend. Her family was all about cats and her older sister had a female that kept on getting pregnant while in heat. After giving birth to her first litter and not being able to keep the kittens we originally wanted, we settled for two male kittens.. but it didn’t work out. We gave them both away to a pair of friends that lived together. Next litter, my girlfriend knew exactly which kitten she wanted. I on the other hand was unsure. I was struggling to choose between two kittens. The first was a very beautiful tri-colored kitten and the second was light grey white white stripes and dots all over her body. I was really tempted to choose the tri-colored because of her beautiful coat but the more I got to spend time with the kittens, Nova chose me. The gray kitty started giving me every sign telling me she wanted to go home with me and be mine. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t see them much so they weren’t used to my touch and all kittens would try to run out of my hands as soon as I picked them up and so did Nova but the more time I spent with her the less she did it and the more she’d curl up into my chest. Long story short, I’m so happy I chose connection over any other reason.. she’s the best decision I’ve ever made.

When I brought her 3 babies into the house, they all ran to my spayed Siamese as their new mother. It was hilarious. These 3 babies suckled my Siamese for 5 years! I asked the vet if this was ok and he said if it wasn't, the Siamese would stop them but she never did. Nine years later and they don't suckle anymore but one of the kittens (grown now) still follows the Siamese everywhere she goes. In 2016 I brought the spayed momma inside, who wasn't one of my favorites at the time. She is now my favorite as she always cuddles as close as she can to my back when I sleep and her purring helps me sleep. She's not as pretty as the rest but makes up for it in personality. Cats live long because of their genetics.
I've had four cat, the first cat (female) lived 19 years old, and was a carrier of the FD gene (the gene of Scottish Fold ears).
In the litter she was born there were three kittens, but she was the only one that was kept alive. I wonder if they were folds, too (My cat was black, the other two kitten of the litter were blue and red. The mum - a feral cat - was a long haired blue tortie. Hearing about different fathers, probably my cat's sibling were regular straight).
I had her until last year and i loved her very much. Her name was Goku. A name that brought her luck, i guess. At the age of 8 she survived to cancer.

True. And it doesn't always necessarily related to neutering/spaying. If what applies to humans applies to cats too, actually doing those two things will likely cause long term effects like obesity, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular diseases, and may actually does the exact opposite. My friends' cat turned permanently obese after going through sterilization surgery, which happens far more often than we like it. And it's even worse doing it to a kitten, which happens to be pushed by a cat hater, making the said cat suffers from osteoporosis too, which just add to the burden of the said obese cats, because obesity as we know it, put so much pressure on the bones and joints of the said cats.

She was pregnant and she was hanging around my camp. Then I started feeding her, I got her sterilized and since last summer, she's been sleeping with me in my tent, it took 9 months before she let me pet her, she was so hungry and I would not leave the plate, so I managed to touch her. Now she won't leave me alone, she let's me clean her fur from sticky weed and seed pods. Two weeks ago I got a lot of fish (fresh and fried) and shrimps, you should have seen how she was looking at me after that. She's the most thankful creature I've ever met. Last night I spent 16h with her in the forest, and she would not leave me alone, and from everything I could see how thankful she's bc I haven't forgotten her, though I was evicted from the forest few months ago, and now we have two kilometres between us. All I need is the basket to carry her to my new camp... And a ride... I cannot carry her that long in the box.

Another male cat, ate like a horse. He ate everything including dog and cat food. Let’s just say we didn’t have leftovers for quite a number of years.A white female cat let me help her, she had a broken leg 90% healed when I took her off the street and rushed to a vet clinic and a week and a half later she had kittens. Her only surviving baby was white like her and screamed like a banshee when in heat. Since the whole neighborhood can hear her, I got her and mama spayed at the same time. Expensive to do, but it was worthwhile to have quiet in the house. Before “Candy” passed away 5 yrs ago, she picked out her successor called “Queen” who was named after the band. She was a midnight black ferocious feral and wasn’t so young as her statistics suggest in the adoption files. It wasn’t until July 2022 that she mellowed out quite a bit maybe due to me being in hospital for a few days. I think also she may have thought I wasn’t coming back at all.

After a month of begging me this neighbor yells out, "she has no front or back claws, someone threw her out with no claws". I went home, got a carrier and brought her in. She and my other cat, Lucy Pepper are both 8 years old. I gave Belle her name, knowing it meant beautiful. I knew it from the Beatles Song Michelle, my Belle. I've had Belle for about 4 years and I love her and Lucy Pepper equally. Belle is extremely laid back and I wonder if it's not depression. Spaying is how you sterilize a girl cat. You open her up and remove ovaries and often their uterus.
While neutering is removing testicles from males. It's basically just a snip snip. Much less complicated procedure. That's what she means.

I've had 3 calicos in my day, and they were all female. My experience has been that if you get a cat while still
a kitten (spay/neuter it) and raise it with much love and attention (regular vet visits/shots), no matter if they
are male or female, they will be a loving pet! I DON'T DO KITTEN...NO KITTENS BORN at my HOUSE! Any cat
that comes my way comes in under it's own steam! I have EVERY cat spayed/neutered. It's worth the $ for sure!

My number one priority would be to have a loving kitty!! Although I'd love to adopt I'd like to raise a cat from a young age to properly socialise them in their developmental period. This is why I'd prefer to adopt a young kitten rather than an older kitty

My cat was neutered at age 4 and he hated me afterwards (but loved my aunt who was the one that insisted on neutering him)

Only female cats can be calico. It's a genetic thing. There are no male calico cats.

With some of the same cats I mentioned in a comment on the male version of this, I have another story.
My cats Sadie and Sassy had their second litters. I can't remember the exact number but I believe one had 6 and the other had 5. Sassy disappeared, leaving Sadie with 11 kittens. Sadie had no problem with all of them, and I observed her. Sadie seemed to have routine where she fed 4-6 kittens and when they were done, fed the other 4-6. This isn't as long as my other one, but I thought it was cool that one cat took 11 kittens.

My female cat is extremely affectionate. She wants to give kisses to everyone and has developed signs to communicate stuff like "take your mask off, so I can kiss you", "pet me" and "I want on your lap". She is, in general, more independent and more quiet than her brother, but very caring. She also came to check on me one day when I had a breakdown. Oh, and on the first evening, a couple of hours after we'd met, she sat on her hind legs, reached for my face and kissed my nose when I bent down.

My tabby, "The Claw," was a starving feral kitten when we met. She laid down in my lap and fell asleep, and that was it for me.

My female cat lived to be 18. The vet was surprised since they saw her when we found her and said she would not of lasted more than another night outside.
