  • @michaelreis4789
    @michaelreis4789 2 года назад +21

    If you were purchasing an SUV to last more than 7+ years (not leasing), hands down the Lexus over RR, MB, BMW etc. All tech from any manufacturer would be outdated in 5 years anyways. Especially with all the EV's coming out. Buying I would choose the LX600. - Also Edmunds showed the LX ground clearance without the raised AHC - which is much better that the jeep's 10 inch. Compare break over angles and its not even close in terms of off roading ability between the two. Short term lease, I would take the full size RR before it starts to break down. That jeep is not my flavour at all.

    • @tool8337
      @tool8337 2 года назад +1

      What's that logic with "all the tech will be outdated anyway"? Doesn't that mean it's better to go with the one that's the most future proof so you're not suffering from the lack of modern features form day 1? You will be better off at the end of the the car's useful lifespan in the one with better tech from the start? Even putting subjective stuff aside (and assuming that Chrysler has improved the horrid reliability), both of these are definitely bottom of the class. If you like these over the rivals, buy it. People always just go with the one they like subjectively. Smart money is on something else. In 2022, everything is expensive to maintain so why not go with the nicer one - the GLS, X7, or Cadillac (Navigator has too much piano black for my taste). The RR, Bentayga, Urus, DBX aren't really in the question. If you can afford one of those, you aren't buying for the long haul ;) and you don't care as much about reliability because you know what you're signing up for as you point out. Speaking of off-roading all of the above are overkill for the type of stuff people do like driving on gravel, grass, or snow. None of these would/should be your choice for a "real" off-roader.

    • @michaelreis4789
      @michaelreis4789 2 года назад +2

      @@tool8337 Basing a vehicle purchase on strictly tech is my main point. Is there any tech in the Jeep that isn’t in the LX. Subjectively one may be better layed out or better screen sizes etc. However the actual technology isn’t that different. I just think the LX’s tech will last longer without breakdown. What tech is the LX lacking that the jeep or x7 or gls have? I will say that a x7 or gls arguably looks better. In 7 years all tech will look equally dated. As well as exterior styling to an extent. What stands the test of time is build quality and build material. Don’t see too many ppl rocking a blackberry these days. Tech is disposable. Too many ppl look at vehicles the same way - and for the ones that don’t the LX is the better buy. Just my opinion. Also been proven that truck based SUV’s last the longest compared to unibody. So it’s not just an off roading thing but a longevity thing.

    • @tool8337
      @tool8337 2 года назад

      @@michaelreis4789 I definitely agree with you there. I was speaking generally that it's better to go with the better tech because it won't look AS BAD in x-many years. If you consider that in terms of tech features, the LX and Jeep are equal, considering Lexus's stellar reputation for reliability and Jeeps pathetic reliability, the LX is surely the way to go. However, Its not enough that the car has the features on a spec sheet, it's how well they work. There's a lot of features that the GLS has that neither of these do and I can promise you that the tech just works better. Like the cameras are higher res, the screens are faster, the ventilated seats are cooler. It's a personal question whether that matters for you enough to go with one over another. I wouldn't buy a vehicle purely on tech, but it is an important factor. In the last two decades, cars aren't only differentiated by the way they feel and perform, its about the infotainment and how well you get along with the features. I would argue that not only does the GLS have more features that work better, but the sum of the parts is greater. There's sooo many Mercedes features that even mercedes owners don't know about that amount to a more complete experience. Plus, the interior environment is more relaxing, the technology is better integrated and more satisfying, the ride and handling are better, the gas mileage and performance are better. Though, historically body-on-frame SUVs last longer, the driving experience is inferior. Plus, it might not even last longer, there are nearly as many high mileage Mercedes SUVs out there as Lexus ones.

Aside from being bigger which is better if you do carry around a lot of people all the time, the LX would be fully capable of doing everything and more, the typical driver would do.

    Both The Grand Wagoneer and the Land Cruiser are considerably the most iconic legendary SUVs in the world. Same goes to the Ford Bronco. And they’re the ones that started the SUV trend. These started to exist back in the early to mid 1960s.!! I can’t really decide between the Grand Wagoneer and the LX 600!! I like both of these a lot!! The wagoneer series 3 looks better than the grand wagoneer though because of all the extra chrome in the grand wagoneer. I shopped, researched and test drove escalade, navigator, defender and wagoneer. I am extremely glad I chose the wagoneer ! I drove the range rover sport for 36 months and range rover velar for 36 months. I do miss the camera system in the ranges but the 3d surround camera in the wagoneer is way better than lexus and when you are driving such a huge vehicle in the city, you need one.

    I drove a Grand Wagoneer yesterday, it was a nice ride. The highlight for me is the adjustable foot pedals, the ones the Escalade got rid off!!!!! ( stupid move ). The LX 600 has been on my radar but all the reviews on the ride make me shy away from it. The Escalade still is on my radar but after having mechanical issues with my 2018 it makes me wonder if I want to risk that again. Last on my list is the Denali Ultimate, which is fully loaded, the interior looks nice ( not as nice as the Escalade ) but..... still the same concerns in terms of possible mechanical issues with GDI engine. I did find out the same type of engine on the GW? The salesman wasn't sure.
    For the moment I have a 2022 GX 460 Blackline edition and everytime I look at it I don't want to get rid of it. So I guess for the moment I'm safe. In the end and regardless of anything else my gut still goes with the Escalade, I love the styling and ride quality and being just a little shorter than the Grand Wagoneer it fits better in my garage. If I could get my hands on a good LX 570 with super low miles I might opt for that. I just have not found the one I want.

    There's a lot of wrongs in this comparison, but the most important one is why compare a 4-seater with a 7-seater? Why not compare a 7-seat "Luxury" or "F-Sport" LX which cost $108k-$110k and at that price it's a no brainer win over any Jeep, much more so over a $110k Jeep! And your personal recommendation of buying a GLS is again out of place here...you're comparing Lexus and Jeep...maybe just pick a winner between those two? And yes, the long term reliability is a HUGE point in buying a vehicle, even more so when you pluck $100k+...would be also nice to mention an excellent hydraulic height adjustable suspension on the LX?

    Excited as I am about the Grand Wagoneer revival, at this pricepoint, I would have to hold off a couple more years and wait for Jeep to iron out the kinks. #1, The GW is already having reliability issues right out of the gate, which we already expected. I'm fine with letting other people deal with that headache. And #2 Jeep designers need to do a better job at hailing the GW's original iconic profile we all remember from the 1980's. By 1992, you couldn't differentiate the downsized GW from the Cherokee, and that's a problem here as well. The final year of the full size GW was luxurious for the time, but still had a muscular profile, which was appealing. It was luxurious on suburban streets, yet it was something you could still take hunting or on ski trips. The new Wagoneer seems wimpy, and only echos its more recent past, when it was just a Jeep Cherokee in disguise. Sure, the 2022 Wagoneer has the heft its earliest ancestor had, but the bland exterior styling is very ho-hum. Wagoneer styling needs to be more muscular - something all its own, apart from that of the Grand Cherokee.
