Patch 1.0.3 is out. This patch makes it so you can do multiple dungeons with the same party without having to disband first. Also a bunch of other QoL adjustments and bug fixes.
For anyone who's wanting that original couch co-op. There is now integrated Gameboy Advance controller support on Dolphin Emulator. This means you can stimulate a GBA controller through a GBA emulator. The best part about it is that Netplay also works with this integrated GBA controller meaning that it's also possible to play online this way. So you can play together all on one monitor while seeing the Gameboy Advances on the side when right next to each other. While also being able to see everyone's GBA and the game on separate monitors across the Earth. It's actually a pretty recent change, 3-4 months ago, and I've been having a blast with it.
@@AnthonyDark You put in a GBA Bios file into Dolphin to get GBA Integrated to work. The Dolphin GameCube Emulator with Game Boy Advance via mGBA (tutorial / setup) from Mr. Sujano explains how to set it up in great detail.
Glad I could help. Thought I'd spread the word since I remember the inconvenient struggle of getting multiple GBAs and the connector when the game came out. This made it a million times easier.
I have been grinding the mobile game just fine for this reason. Stage farming for that fire ring on the go! My little sister never wanted to play the original with me. So solo gang for lyfe.
A minor point, but I strongly prefer the original theme to the remade theme. Not to detract from the vocalist's skill, because she's obviously great at what she does, but I hate how the vocal melody stops and starts in the new one. I prefer the smooth, strong tune of the original.
Excellent video! Same tbh. I love this game a lot, I've replayed the original many times in single player for multiple reasons and lack of a lot of things, gameboys and cables to play with my brother, time to play with the only who played the game so I always enjoyed the single player. I love how the remastered improved on a lot of things for single player like the inventory and the easy artifact grinding thanks to the multiplayer. Yeah I know the multiplayer have flaws but I still having a lot of fun, playing single player and multiplayer with randoms, friends and even people from discord. I'm was disappointed that people can't travel everywhere together anymore but it's been fun in spite of that tbh. But this is just my opinion.

The extra stuff like voice acting, post game dungeons, and equipment? If a game gets ruined by additions, the core game wasn’t that great to begin with. I can understand disliking DLC game weapons that break the early game and cosmetic DLC, but extras doesn’t necessarily “hamper” the experience (DLC is whole other hurdle, but are unnecessary. And it doesn’t even matter for online play early on). As a remaster it gets everything but the online multiplayer right; yes, the core of the game is in multiplayer, so it is disappointing. :)
Brandon Andres I never used the word “ruin”. I used the word “hamper”. There is a huge difference. If you have a good, simple sandcastle that looks good by itself...and you keep stacking a bunch of unnecessary extensions to it to the point of it being unstable...then you have a situation not unlike FFCCR. Donna Burke’s beautiful narration has been sped up, and it takes you out of the ambiance. The stellar local co-op that made the original phenomenal has been gutted to make way for a subpar online mode that no one asked for. This game, that was optimized for consoles, now has exceedingly long loading screens and buffering issues because it had to be redone on Unity so people on smartphones can play. Again, nobody asked for this. The core game is a beautifully simple dungeon crawler, made even better with friends. In no way is the core game disappointing, and if it is, I’m sorry, but you’re playing a game that’s not for you.
@@brandonchavez9924 LOL, you say no one asked for online? That's ludicrous. Any game released in this day and age without online multiplayer functionally has no multiplayer at all for 90% of players. Also, people talk about the original's multiplayer like it was God's gift, but the sheer fact that it was so hard to set up makes it comparably bad IMO. I had the original, I had 2 link cables, but I only had 1 GBA. None of my friends ever brought their GBAs to my house because either they or their parents assumed that entertainment would be provided at my house. Bringing the GBA was just asking for it to be forgotten and lost. As a result, I never got to play the original multiplayer, and I would have never considered playing this game again if it didn't have online. Not to mention, how would you propose menus work on a single screen? The only reason the game worked in the first place was because the GBAs provided a screen for the menus without blocking the view of the action, so as disappointing as it is, there really is no way to have had couch co-op in this remaster. Except that is, by having multiple devices connect to the internet. I suspect this is why Mobile was added. So that you could have 1 person on PS4 and have their friends/family join them via their phones (something everyone has and wouldn't have to pay extra for). The online is very poorly done, there is no way to defend its quality lol. There is no reason we shouldn't have been able to invite friends into the caravan to explore non-dungeon areas with us (similarly to how bringing over a memory card worked in the original). There is horrible latency throughout the online experience (even when playing with friends who have good nearby connections). Players time out too quickly; even when the host is waiting for their friends to join the HOST can time out BEFORE the dungeon has actually started.
Chas Gulley I stand by what I said. Anybody who played the original knows that local co-op made the game sing. Playing online is literally playing by yourself. The online co-op kills the social aspect. Ah, I see why you’re bitter about it though. On a certain level, you simply must understand that it’s the fault of your friends that you couldn’t make the game work. You can’t blame the game that your friends didn’t bring their GBA’s. It isn’t the fault of the game. People talk up the original BECAUSE it was as good as they say. You already admitted you never experienced it at its best. Your opinion is completely invalid. You’re like a religious teen, espousing the evils of sex before marriage, never having tasted the joys of sex for yourself.
Chas Gulley I fail to see the point of your last paragraph, so I won’t even address it. I already said the online was bad? If it were switch exclusive with local multi...that would have been the way to go.
All I want to know is do you need a GBA if you want to play single player on the GameCube? You talked about needed it for multiplayer, but I don't think you clarified if it was necessary for singleplayer. Maybe you did and I just didn't catch it
i mean, for the multiplayer lobbies, they could have the host pick a new dungeon and the other players could "opt out" if they didn't want to continue (alternatively, possibly a "voting" system like MK8?). otherwise i don't think we're really losing out on *much* between GCN and remaster if they work in significantly similar ways, if not improved on.
I think the big, core difference is in the old version you were part of the same caravan, with everything this entailed: you all saw the same road events, got the same relics, lived in the same town, etc. In the new version, you're the only person in your caravan (even if you fill it with "alt" characters to play on later), so you're the only one that sees all that extra stuff: as soon as the fighting is done, you HAVE to kick everyone out, until the next fight comes around. It's the difference between a co-op game, and a game when you can call in "help" to fight a boss or something.
The best way me and my friends have been able to consistently play together has been via an emulator on a pc. We’ve all owned the game, and all of our GameCubes have given up on us so it’s sort of our only real alternative to the jank multiplayer of the remake. Thankfully it’s much easier to set up on an emulator with a big enough screen.
Awesome video as always. I've been super excited about this game since I found out about it in September last year and... yeah. Pretty much decided to pass on it over its co-op issues lol
I think a Four Swords Adventure remake on Switch will potentially be better than the remaster for this game. Being guaranteed on one console only, plus it being a hybrid console, they can easily implement local AND online multiplayer.
If Nintendo does indeed remake Four Swords Adventure for Switch, I hope they do the smart thing and bundle the original Four Swords to it, maybe even the limited release version of Four Swords Anniversary Edition for DSi
I am very pissed off at the way memory crystals were implemented. They should work in towns, menus and cutscenes. I wouldn't have bought even one (I bought the complete pack) if I knew they worked less the 50% of the time.
I'm excited for your inevitable jump in subscriber count. Your all ports reviewed series is top tier and i have faith if you keep up what you are doing, you will succeed.
Saying to stick with the game cube version only one problem unless you have a GBA and the Cords or GBA SP you still wont get the same satisfaction so in my opinion your either best off playing alone or just not playing at all since online is still buggy but What i love about the remake is the mimic skins and new characters add-ons and new dungeons saying you dont want those is kinda...well lets just say once you beat the original there was no challenge mode like the new one. So yeah both have there differences in taste i prefer the remake just cause it has new content vs old but i will say the old had A WAY BETTER FUCKING OPENING LIKE WTF.... i guess moonless starry night is good in remake old one was better but to each there own am I right lol. (BTW i played the remaster alone >_> cause unless your playing discord or have brothers (which i luck out on) that play either switch or ps4 version.) Communication is neigh impossible which is fucking annoying for a game like this. =3

I have 90% of the original set up gear (just need some extra GBAs) and have been wanting to have a play session. But I waited to see if this would be an easier option. Somehow completely missed the launch for this. Glad I've waited. Might still pick it up but... uggghhhh
Thank you for another awesome video. I always enjoy seeing the differences between each version. I will not play the original lol Too much work and equipment needed. I really want this remaster (I never owned a Gamecube, shared one with a sibling so never got to beat this game as a solo experience or at all tbh) but the DLC is such a deterrent...even if it's just in-dungeon cosmetics. I mean, why add DLC to a remaster? Anything added to the game should just be in the package. I'm still pissed FFVIIR is in parts and now they are adding DLCs to remasters. Soon we'll be getting remasters in parts with DLCs per part. I can appreciate the solo QoL improvements and free lite version but what did it cost us, really? Shitty multiplayer that the game's entire system is kind of based on (even if it can be completed via solo experience). I'll wait for this game to get a patch or two before picking it up or a sale, whenever comes first.
Don’t forget the remaster also has a weapon DLC that gives players OP weapons that only start becoming irrelevant in the post game (they are second to the final weapons in power). For comparison, these DLC weapons are way stronger than the Ultima Weapon in terms of raw output. Sure it’s still DLC, but it kinda bogs down online unless you join a Discord server and ask people to not use them (random online is always a crapshoot anyways). :)
Cant BELIEVE you cant have one file and yer mates over to crawl as a unit. Local would have been so much better than hopping someone joins your game and they will help you host a dungeon after they just beat it. So bad i wanna replay this for nostalgia so bad but neither having two-four GBAs or 2 copies of the same remaster sound good
Why remake a multiplayer game and then make it have no local co-op mode? Can't even play together in the same room, which is what we loved about this game.
Never includes emulation upscale..16k res on this game is jaw dropping...it also keeps removed content and improves load times. Forget multi player...its not worth it no matter how.
So they had problems with development ...they had to choose between only local or only online....they choose only online ....but region locked.... so instead of having the chance to play local with friends is they made easier to play online with strangers...but only from our same region.. gods of stupid desicions
Was thinking about getting remastered myself, but when I realized I could pull off that multiplayer Gameboy advance setup without even having a Gameboy advance, Dolphin is just obviously better now.
Even before the ports the game was horrible. My bf just conned me into trying it out multiplayer on the switch. It's with out a doubt the worst RPG I've ever played. There is no levelling up, no way to acquire magic other than what you get in level. The weapon system and artifact system are lazy. I would compare it to a slightly more fleshed out secret of mana for the snes.
Never recommend VBA as a GBA emulator! It has major security flaws and is in general an inferior emulator compared to the accuracy focused mGBA, NanoBoy Advance, or SkyEmu. SkyEmu and NanoBoy Advance being the most accurate GBA emulators to date.
When you play solo you actually get a couple QoL things added in. Mog floats around to carry the chalice for you, and you can do spell fusion by yourself (you put the materia in your command slots next to each other, and you get the option to fuse them, making them auto-cast as the fused version instead). In addition, when you open your menu, such as to change out materia to suit a different enemy, the game pauses instead of being real-time, like in multiplayer.
seems closer to a precursor to a DS, IMO. Especially since on a lot of DS games, they tended to have the top screen for the action, and the bottom screen for maps/menu/etc.
I'm so tired of hearing people (not talking about AustinSV here) complain about the lack of couch co-op. If this is you, tell me, how do you propose allowing each player to enter their menu at any time without obstructing the other players? The only reason the game's multiplayer worked originally was because each player got their own screen, this is only possible for current systems by cutting local multiplayer in favor of online multiplayer. You can still play together in 1 room for that matter, just whoever isn't on the TV would need to be on a Switch or phone (I believe this is the reason mobile functionality was added) and you all need to be connected to the internet. The remaster has tons of issues that absolutely should be complained about, but they're completely overshadowed by the braindead people asking for the impossible.
I’ve got enough switches and switch lights that I could play with handheld switches as the gba’s. The problem is they wanted cross platform support and that solution only works on the switch.
there being no lan play is really really bad. you should've been able to start a world everyone join the world and the people you were playing with just join. all the characters created will be saved that world or you can have the option to send your player data over to each experience to play each world. they also should have completely redone the way combat flows through out the game. keep the timed presses for the 3 hit combo but allow defened and attack and magic to be on different buttons and let me move a bit more often with less delay after moves. the games already extremely easy just make it more fun/ engaging at the same time.
It's like getting a visit from a friend you'd never thought you'd see again, except everything that made them special had changed.
You’re doing gods work with these comparison videos.

Chas Gulley
I stand by what I said.
Chas Gulley
I fail to see the point of your last paragraph, so I won’t even address it. I already said the online was bad?
If it were switch exclusive with local multi...that would have been the way to go.
All I want to know is do you need a GBA if you want to play single player on the GameCube? You talked about needed it for multiplayer, but I don't think you clarified if it was necessary for singleplayer. Maybe you did and I just didn't catch it
No, singleplayer on GameCube didn't need a GBA.
@occono3543 thanks for letting me know, I'll try n pick this game up at some point then
i mean, for the multiplayer lobbies, they could have the host pick a new dungeon and the other players could "opt out" if they didn't want to continue (alternatively, possibly a "voting" system like MK8?). otherwise i don't think we're really losing out on *much* between GCN and remaster if they work in significantly similar ways, if not improved on.
I've been super excited about this game since I found out about it in September last year and... yeah. Pretty much decided to pass on it over its co-op issues lol
wait, this didn't get a Steam release?
Nice to know that I only need one more link cable.
WOW they fucked this up. Good video.
No pinned comment, did the changes never happen?
good god those load times
I think a Four Swords Adventure remake on Switch will potentially be better than the remaster for this game. Being guaranteed on one console only, plus it being a hybrid console, they can easily implement local AND online multiplayer.
If Nintendo does indeed remake Four Swords Adventure for Switch, I hope they do the smart thing and bundle the original Four Swords to it, maybe even the limited release version of Four Swords Anniversary Edition for DSi
@@beatpeitsi6853 That could also help justify the expected $60 price tag.
2:10 OMG! 😆
Does the physical version come in English?
Mmm only physical in Japan and I think it could be on English but you'd be region locked to Japan
Just buy the equipment. It's worth it. Trust me. I used to play this all the time with four GBAS.
@@justapickedminfan ikr just for clarification both the new weapons have two different attack styles. Mog range- Selkie and Punishment-Rush attack-selkie so it will be different for other races.
@@loomingdeath1758 It's literally impossible to get people to cast haste or hastega
Here's how it goes
Let's use a Magic Burst!
I'll cast Raise!
I'll cast Cure!
I'll cast Cure!
Nobody gets it.
@@dolphinboi-playmonsterranc9668 Oh man who you telling try getting people to cast holy on undead dragon !!!!!
Thaaankyooouuuuu
I have 90% of the original set up gear (just need some extra GBAs) and have been wanting to have a play session.
But I waited to see if this would be an easier option.
Somehow completely missed the launch for this. Glad I've waited. Might still pick it up but... uggghhhh
I was disappointed when there wasn't any local multiplayer....
I feel like royalty with my GBA player disc.
Kneel before me, peasants. I can play (good)Pokemon on TV.
No recuerdo que se viera tan mal, en estos videos exagwrais mucho me da ami xD
I really hope they get rid of the region lock multiplayer but I don’t think it will happen
yeah the new singer of the soundtrack was really crushing the nostalgia....that fucked it up so bad.
Cant BELIEVE you cant have one file and yer mates over to crawl as a unit. Local would have been so much better than hopping someone joins your game and they will help you host a dungeon after they just beat it.
So bad i wanna replay this for nostalgia so bad but neither having two-four GBAs or 2 copies of the same remaster sound good
A physical copy of the game in America and English!
If No one can afford 30 $ for this please don't call it trash i played the original and there is nothing wrong with the remaster except for voices
Wish there was a PC version
Clavat master race.
It really feels like they would have been better off making a whole new game rather than trying to make the old game fit into modern technology
At least on switch you don’t really need gba for a mini map
Hmm, I don’t know if I enjoyed the original enough to bother. The free version might be worth a look just to be sure though. Thanks for the vid.
I have the gamecube version i wont ever be able to play multiplayer but i cant afford a playstation
So the game that was originally designed to be multiplayer just isn’t multiplayer anymore. Got it.
So.... the original version. Got it
i love this game, but i can't play with my friends like the original, if only this game was offline.....
How about a port that's actually multiplayer? Ugh... So much hope, dashed by mobile
I just wanna know who on Earth made it so freaking complicated to play this gem multiplayer... WHY NOT SIMPLY make it with the gamecube controllers...
Just one thing: TOO MANY loading screens!
halloween music
I mean... I’ve always been a friendless loser, so it’s not like my experience will change from not having any other people along.
They ruined this game by making it mobile compatible.
It doesn't affect the console versions?
@@wonderfuljoey23 I think the point is that local multiplayer was cut for cross platform online multiplayer.
"Witch version of: Shin Megami Tensei should you play" (the first games - megami tensei and shin megami tensei) Please.
The voice acting is HORRENDOUS
So they had problems with development ...they had to choose between only local or only online....they choose only online ....but region locked....
so instead of having the chance to play local with friends is they made easier to play online with strangers...but only from our same region.. gods of stupid desicions
My first refund ever, i just bought it on PS4 but i think i'll ask for a refund and then play it on dolphin 😅
Was thinking about getting remastered myself, but when I realized I could pull off that multiplayer Gameboy advance setup without even having a Gameboy advance, Dolphin is just obviously better now.
Classic
The gamecube version
Even before the ports the game was horrible. My bf just conned me into trying it out multiplayer on the switch. It's with out a doubt the worst RPG I've ever played. There is no levelling up, no way to acquire magic other than what you get in level. The weapon system and artifact system are lazy. I would compare it to a slightly more fleshed out secret of mana for the snes.
So this does not have local couch coop???? On the switch ????
Well I guess I'll skip this game I wanted to play with my nephew
Never recommend VBA as a GBA emulator! It has major security flaws and is in general an inferior emulator compared to the accuracy focused mGBA, NanoBoy Advance, or SkyEmu. SkyEmu and NanoBoy Advance being the most accurate GBA emulators to date.
So, you CAN'T play the whole game solo?
Where did you get that idea? Yes you can solo the whole game.
I am playing solo and yes you totally can
When you play solo you actually get a couple QoL things added in.
The new soundtrack is so... pretentios... sing normal, dammit
The precursor to the Nintendo Wii U
seems closer to a precursor to a DS, IMO.
@William Baker You really think you can fit the whole menu on a small enough space that it won't obstruct the main screen?
I’ve got enough switches and switch lights that I could play with handheld switches as the gba’s. The problem is they wanted cross platform support and that solution only works on the switch.
Answer: none
None... crystal chronicles sucks worse than kingdom hearts.
This video saved me money.
there being no lan play is really really bad. you should've been able to start a world everyone join the world and the people you were playing with just join. all the characters created will be saved that world or you can have the option to send your player data over to each experience to play each world.
they also should have completely redone the way combat flows through out the game. keep the timed presses for the 3 hit combo but allow defened and attack and magic to be on different buttons and let me move a bit more often with less delay after moves. the games already extremely easy just make it more fun/ engaging at the same time.
