  • In Victorian London, oysters were a popular food and big business. But with over fishing and disease they’re now on the verge of extinction. The native oyster has suffered a huge decline in population over the last 200 years. Human intervention to build a new habitat remains the last chance of survival, but will the oysters adapt to their new home? Naturalist Mike Dilger reports.

Well made doco. Interesting. I have worked as an oyster shucker, and those oysters shown looked top-drawer! No take zones and marine sanctuaries are working well here in New Zealand - but they need investment around policing. Good luck with this project, not before time.

That’s a good idea to have ‘no take’ areas. Just be wary of 3rd World and 2nd World fishermen who don’t care, or are too short-sided / greedy or desperate.
