WELCOME TO SEASON 5 OF FTB FILM STUDY WITH COACH NICK CODUTTI!
Down 14 points at halftime, 3,000 miles and 3 time zones away from Happy Valley, Penn State orchestrated a second-half offensive rally for the ages and piled up enough points to squeak past USC in overtime, 33-30.
In this film study, Coach Codutti unpacks how Nittany Lions OC Andy Kotelnicki reached deep in his bag of tricks and pulled out some of the funkiest formations ever seen on a football field...including a viral 'center-eligible' shot play for 6 to future Mackey Award winner Tyler Warren.

Man this year is such a breath of fresh air with the offense!
Paterno would be proud of you. He made me a student of the game. It's why I'm a Penn State fan!
LET DREW COOK! Unlocking more facets to the passing game is the only way we keep pace with Ohio State and other playoff teams.
70 percent completion percentage with a bunch of JAG's at WR doesn't get talked about enough
@@cliffordsmith4699 only a penn state fan would come and immediately shit on a position group after a great comeback win (where said position group made big plays). unreal.
@@cliffordsmith4699 JAGs at WR is a bit harsh for PSU. I think you are thinking of my Steelers lol
Heck of a game from Allar, hopefully continuing to build his confidence heading into the second half of the season.
These videos have become my favorite to watch every week. Seeing the plays in real time and thinking how cool the play designs are and then to have you break it all down for us to where it all makes sense. Thank you for all you do coach!
It's time to scrap the Pribula Package in favor of a limited Warren Package at QB. Not sure what the deal is, but Beau doesn't have the same juice as a runner that he did last year.
We tend to agree.
I think part of the issue is a lot of the time Beau is in at QB, Allar is still on the field. You’re basically playing 11 on 10 there. I don’t hate the Beau packages but it’s become very predictable as well, probably 9/10 times it’s some kind of run play.
^^^^ this. It's so predictable
Beau hasn’t attempted a pass since he threw an interception against kent state. I thought they were going to put him in a normal rotation once or twice a game. They did the same thing with Levis and he ended up leaving.
I’m absolutely done with that package. I know it’s college ball, but imagine doing that at NFL level, pulling your starter for some gimmick package. Especially on some of these super important downs
Those two 4th down throws by Allar were unbelievable. Talk about a high wire act!
Love the emphasis on USC having to respect Drew's ability to throw the ball deep. I'm a Packer and PSU fan and for so many years the knock on Aaron Rodgers was that yeah his TD:INT ratio is all-time great, but that means he passes up any and all risky opportunities in the process. He'd rather throw the ball away or short than chuck it deep and let his guys make plays.
Same with Drew. Yes he protects the ball well, but defenses key in on that, and they all usually guess that you're not gonna test them, even when you need to. Happened against Ohio State last year. Here, Drew throws 3 picks (more like 2 of course) but like you said, the defense ended up having to respect him.
Allar grew up a LOT in this game!! I think he's only going to get more awesome!!! What a game!
Could you do a focus on the tremendous work the linemen are doing to protect Allar and give him the time to set up and throw? Their blocking, seems to me, is the key to Drew's impressive play this season.
We were at the game and the USC fans sitting behind us were losing their minds at how open TW was the entire game. 😂
I always look forward to the breakdown videos. Thanks for the content.
keep up the great film study work, Coach.
Amazing game. Great breakdown!
Great commentary!
awesome breakdown. thanks! have you been noticing the O-Line gelling better each week?
tackle play has been concerning
It seems 2nd half Drew was laying it in there, where the 1st half throw to JF was almost too hot to handle. Great halftime adjustments again by the coordinators.
When they go fast it just seemed like the thinking went out the window and he was playing in flow man. I’m a golfer and it’s the same thing. You think you play tentative and like shit. You let it flow and go low.
Very fun game indeed. Last year may have been the most boring season I can remember with blowout wins and two bad losses where you never felt like we had a chance. Very entertaining season so far (Kent State not included).
I wish I saw more personnel changes. No matter the formation, it seems like it's always 3 wides, 1 tight end, 1 running back. Even when we run 4 or 5 wides. Glad they let Drew throw, even if they were basically forced to. More of the same in 2 weeks, please.
Ok. How TF do you get the all22?
fell off the back of a truck
🤣🤣 I'm sure the coach has many connections at this point. He can't divulge his secrets though.
Awesome stuff, but I’d rather see why the run game was held in check the past two games. Is it the O-line, the RBs, the downfield blocking, stacking the box, bad scheme?
I think the run game was partially held in check versus UCLA because Nick didn't play. Kaytron is awesome but he doesn't have the kind of power and break away speed that Nick has. Not sure about the USC game though.
Disappointed in our line play. It was a tough spot on the road and SC backed into a corner, but I thought we had trouble running the ball and stopping them running up the middle in the first half. The long distance road travel games in the big 10 are going to be rough for everybody.
we had trouble running because USC chose to stack against the run. Drew then proceeded to throw for 400 yds instead. They picked their poison. It shows our offensive balance. you take run - we pass. You take pass - we run!!!
That "Kid" you referred to is JULIAN FLEMING. He's not a "kid", he's a 5 star athlete.
Our weakness seemed to be speed. Will we play a faster team this year?
2 weeks from now, and then again against Oregon in the B1G Championship
Drew Allar haters quiet now 🤫
don't forget the defensive holding and defensive PI in over time against Penn states that the refs missed. I suspect they wanted Penn State to win. It means more money to the conference come bowl time.
Moss chucked the ball at the guy's feet.
Don't forget the 12 (literally) missed holding calls on the line of scrimmage that should have gone against USC. Just don't forget that too. All day long.
@ChristianCrinella The holding was downright ridiculous. Only time they called it was when Reed got tackled by a lineman.
Don't forget the missed facemask call on USCs 4th quarter touchdown
Don't forget the PI that wasn't called on the Warren TD catch where the corner didn't even bother turning their head.
