  • I have a good experience at Watkins Glen, but not in a Miata. These cars are ultra sensitive to anything that slows them down. So, basically you don't want to slow them down! They simply don't have the power to make up ANY over-slowing of the car. In other words, they magnify just how slow a driver you really are.
Thankfully, I have one of the top SM drivers, Elivan Goulart, as my coach and we worked to refine my line and driving style to improve my lap times. The Hoosier Super Tour brings together really top drivers and here I was mid-pack. While that isn't where I'd like to be, it just challenges me to work on improving my skills. Hey, if it were easy...we'd all be Elivan! :-)

I was rooting for you to catch those cars in front of you. Good stuff. Thanks for posting. Those walls are terrifyingly close to the track! What happened that Elivan started so far off the front? When he passed by, did you think: "Let me follow his wheel and get a ride to the front?"

Thanks for watching and the comment, Marc. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I wanted those guys too!!! If you get Turn 11 correct, getting up close to the wall isn't all that intimidating. It's actually, natural. As you saw, Turn 9 is a very different story! LOL!!!
Elivan started DFL because his transmission broke before he could get a qualifying lap in. It was a blast watching him pick through the field. I sure did want to follow him through the field, but there's no way I'm anywhere near his pace. My fast lap was 2:19.3 and he did a 2:15.9 to secure poll for the second race...which he won!
