Hope this get accepted in our armed forces. So we don't have to import them from Belgium anymore. Not that the Belgians make bad guns. But the more we can produce ourselfes. The less reliant we are on imports.
We don't import them. They're licensed produced in the US by FN America LLC, a subsidiary of FN Herstal SA of Belgium. They're manufactured at their South Carolina plant, employing American workers.
Like an automatic sniper team. I'm reminded of Afghanistan footage of a fire team on a mountaintop, attempting to engage targets at distances well outside their weapon's capabilities. In those situations a weapon like this would have benefited them greatly. Hard to believe it weighs less than an M240L, though ammunition weight and amount would be a concern.
And the hits just keep coming. Sig really is the most dynamic firearms company today with Ruger doing pretty well. Glock takes years to come up with a ....wait for it...a .22LR. All you people who say they want one. You can't afford to feed this beast.
From Water-Cooled Full Caliber belt-fed Tripod mounted Machine guns, to lightweight magazine-fed intermediate, back to full-size. It's come full circle.
I like the General Dynamics rifle and suppressor choice due to the longer barrel taking advantage of the 6.5 without compromising on overall length, but SIG definitely has the advantage in its belt-fed options with recoil-midigation designs. The 6.5 ammo is also the most feasible to switch to (metal casings also absorb heat from the chamber, something polymer can't do when its the most prone to overheating).
@Thorin Mason Wouldnt be the first time nor will it be the last time I understand why they are looking for a new weapon, they couldn't lighten the 50.cal enough to be usable and got as much range as they could out of 7.62 but my question why didnt dust off the XM25 CDTE and improve it. The problem is that the Russia made PKM outranges the 240. In theory, the XM25 do the job in one shot accurately whereas a machine gun needs 10-20 rounds. More the point, you can fire one round to kill the crew and use another to damage or destroy whatever weapon they have. The M338 bring longer range but at what increase in weight. Yes the gun is lighter but how much does the ammo weight ?
@@Joshua Bressel They should have kept working on it a direct fire smart munition with 1200 yard range would solve many problems for boots on the ground. Many snipers use terrain or building to hide. An airburst round would end them in one shot. Same with RPG , Mortar, and Machine gun team. One round to kill to the crew and another to destroy the weapon. Now the 338 can pierce body armor but 25mm can shred the target The Army and Marines need to invest this area, not buy another machine gun
I love it. It would be awesome ,I think to introduce a semi automatic rifle in that caliber that would be able to wear a bipod, optics and have that quick change barrel.

This machine gun looks amazing on paper, let's hope the military does extensive testing and hopefully we adopt it. I'm ready for a new machine gun that fires something other than 308, has better range, lethality and lighter.
All that has already been done and tested. The military already gave them the bid. The only thing you should be worried about is weight of ammo, but with all those extra features, it looks real juicy.
This machine gun is just a cool toy. When there are no vehicles or in places that vehicles cannot reach, it’s good for nothing. More than 90% of the time, there are no vehicles or vehicles cannot reach the battlefield. No soldier could run 100 meters cross-country carrying this toy.
jk that actually looks nice the barrel moves. that'll make it more stable. the sight helps too but honestly you can just use ironsights and a C2 and tripod
The SIG rifle offering needs to use the same action as this machine gun. Similar to the relationship between the M-249 SAW and the SCAR mk.16L That would take care of the recoil issues with the 6.8 round without having to depend on the smuzzle which is going to be prone to overheating during sustained automatic fire. The MG 68 is the clear winner for LMG but the MCX Spear needs to use the same action in order to be reliable and effective.

for the medium machine gun the firing relatively light rounds 7.62x51mm , it have a heavy recoil maybe and only maybe because of its lighter weight along with the firing mechanism and the spring to absorb the recoil beside the length and the weight of the barrel .
