    The easiest way to make a clean perfect size hole in a dash is to heat up something metal that is the size you need and melt through like butter. Use file to clean up the edges

    Dremel is fast and easy. But if I was doing this in a new truck or a showroom type car I'd probably start with a small square inside of my box and hand file to until it fit.. A file is slower, more controllable, and easier to prevent a hole that's too big or gaps showing after.

      its easier but not necessarily faster I found you have to do small slow cuts, and ya always test a panel first I had the luxury of having several spare interior panels kicking around and years of building hydroponic and aeroponic systems in a garden center it was essentially the same thing cutting plastic to an exact measurement. Id suggest a fine rasp over a file as the files clog up quick with the plastic as where a fine rasp is easier to clean and stay functional.
      thank you for the feedback and watching :)

      Agree with Thomas Ohman, My chippy and sparkie sons always have the radio on when working. When looking after my grandchildren, our play time is sneaking to their players for many tricks to defeat "you can't stop the music". Sons get annoyed when they should laugh. Sometimes I just cut the power and smile. They would never hit me. After they stop working, they can then laugh. They can't explain why and are top fathers. I think it is a tradie disorder, yet to be diagnosed by psychiatrists.

      I grew up in the Kootenays when it was really rural so you had to be able to do everything you could not call someone lol dad and grand dad were very skilled mom, nana grandma were like martha stewart on steroids so we learned everything from baking to welding lol

      HAHAHA.. Ok .. well My father was a real handyman. Well actually he was an architect .. Its just I lived with my mother, they were divorced so I never got to do these things. Anyway Its great to know you have those skils.

      nothing wrong with that moms have important stuff to teach too, I'm a single dad so pull double duty I have great respect for the good single parents out there probably one of the hardest things to do. Architect that's awesome when I was in high school I was drawn to that took a bunch of drafting courses but then I got introduced to Girls and parties I ended up changing my Major lol

      hahaha.. I hear you ... Well I am not talking ill about single parents, dont get me wrong I loved my mother, and learn a lot from her. I am saying that well the things I learned were not building stuff. I have 2 Step Kids and 2 of my own now and try to teach them what I know... And you know what buddy , When we are introduced to girls is when our lifes get complicated but exciting, part of life...BTW I admire single parents especially when they are guys.

    I never can do this and it not look like trash. Guess i need some practice. Good patience you have. Word of advice. Never use a high speed cutting tool like a dremel without safety glasses. They can fracture at high speed and put your eye out. I almost had this happen to me. Hit me just to the right of the eye. Left a nasty bloody mark. If that had been my eye? I certainly would have been blinded. No question about it. Not worth the risk. I mean, I ain't your dad, but eyes are pretty important. It takes a second to protect your eyes. Takes less than that to destroy one.

      Good point, I noticed the lack of safety glasses too.

      Good advice. I'm a long ways from being a Safety Sally but even I wear eye protection when using those cutting wheels. They absolutely will shatter and it's just dumb luck if they don't go into your eye.

    is there a standard cut out and hole position for 2/3/8 rocker switch panels (building a customer dash)

    • @kootenayboy
      @kootenayboy  2 года назад

      each switch comes with a sort of template on each switch its a spacer but it is exactly the measurement of the switch hole size just remember to leave space between switches cut once measure twice even three times if needed a dash is a one shot deal lol

    Recommending that people use hot glue? Do you know how hot cars can get in the summer sun? Sounds like a bad idea.

    • @kootenayboy
      @kootenayboy  3 года назад +3

      LOL haven't done much more than superficial auto wiring I take it. under your dash and carpet are hot glue connections through out the vehicle. once you start moving past the armchair mechanic you will notice a great deal of things you would never think suitable but are common place. I would not recommend it if I was not positive it is acceptable. thanks for watching

    The only reason I gave this vid a thumbs down is because that music is too loud and VERY distracting! Gonna look for another video that does not have that distraction quite so loud. It comes across tinny sounding and a bit annoying honestly. Back the volume down and you'd have a top shelf vid with good information from what I saw. Just can't take that music dude.
