I am so afraid at doing this. Y'all explained everything so well that I feel confident to do the install. Thank both of you for making this look easy for me.
I found this video helpful. I installed a few aftermarket lights on the truck after watching this and reading my instructions. The process might seem intimidating, but it was actually fun once i got started.😊
I read through most of the comments. I found that you do not reply to questions /concerns. You replied to the compliments. Hope this platform can be more helpful !
With the add-a-circuit you need to pay special attention to the orientation. One way or works as intended, the other way the original fuse is coping with the consume of both circuits so you may get constant blown fuses. It is important to check with a circuit light or voltmeter. The wire side should always be on the cold side of the circuit.
I understand they are oriented but if your using a fuse tap to a relay then you should only be only be pulling the very low amperage to the switch and not the full amperage of the accessorie. So it really shouldn't be overloading the circuit. Is that right?
@@danielbonner8309 correct but with canbus vehicles it isn't recommended to add draw to circuits, the other issue with add a circuit is that if you reverse it the new circuit won't be protected. That's is because if the tail is on the hot side then it is basically bypassing the fuse.
@@munecito Ok. I see that when just adding a an accessory directly to the add a circuit but when your adding a harness with a relay you would be getting the power directly from the battery which has an inline fuse in it. Regardless I'd want the fuse tap oriented correctly.
@@danielbonner8309 depending on what circuit you are tapping from the canbus could start throwing codes with milliamps. Some circuits are more sensitive. If you must use the cigarette lighter circuit or internal lights.
Hello again, I just ordered the relay/wiring from Amazon. Disregard my question about fuse sizing etc. It has all that info etc in the kit from Auxbeam. Fantastic price too, only $15.99 + tax, prime next day delivery. New subscriber too. Thanks again for the Link.
Really helpful! I juste recieced my new fog lights and it only came with a diagram about the wires without any instructions. You just solved my problem!
Thank you for this great video helping me to install my lights. The only question I have is how do you penetrate the switch wiring through the firewall. I only have an existing wiring rubber boot(already loaded with a bunch of wires). I can poke a hole through the robber and fish the wire through, but not the switch (too big) or the wire connecting harness (too big as well). Any suggestions? Thanks
Great video very informative. I have a question instead of using a switch inside the car can you tap off of the high or low beam head light wire or a side marker. Thanks
Do I need a wiring harness like the one you used in the video, for putting a couple of interior lights underneath the glove box on the passenger seat and beneath the steering wheel to give a bit of light by my feet?
I bought a used light bar for my vehicle it came with a rats nest of wires. I got the light installed no problem but the wiring was a real conundrum. After watching your video many times i was able to figure out the wiring. Thank you for such a clear explain of how to wire a light. P.S. where is your location?.
Thank you for the video! I have a two sets of rough county lights that go on a single bar (qty 4). Each pair has a relay and a switch. Do you have a video on hooking two pair together or would you recommend keeping them separate? Thanks again!
Thanks for this video although it didn't quite answer what I'm trying to figure out - how to use a harness where the low-current switching circuit is powered by the high-beam lights, and remove it so the switch is powered directly but without short-circuiting the battery with no load.
Great video.I actually have that same harness you guys are demonstrating. My question is I assume the way you show the switch will have constact power from the battery, how would you wire it so it doesn't?
@@sfwood22 Cause its wired directly to the battery. You have to wire the trigger lead to the switch to acc power. I believe it's the yellow wire on that relay but the wire colors differ from relay to relay so double check. I used a fuse tap. The relay will still use the power directly from the battery but the switch will only get power if the car is on.
Have a general electrical question about wiring in SPST on-off switch to aftermarket driving lights. In VA these lights can only come on when the low beams are active, so I will have a wire as a trigger from the headlights connecting to the relay lead for the normal on/off switch. I don't want to sue them all the time, as in city driving so, I am installing an old school high beam foot switch on the floor board to turn them on'off only when low beams are on. Question: What lead/wire to the relay do I install the switch inline The wire from the trigger wire that would be the normal on/off switch (makes sense), the fused 12VDC power in, the chassis ground, or the power out to the driving lights. Seems any of these would work, but not sure if one is optimal.
You can never have enough ground. When I had a boat with many accessories, I installed a separate ground buss near the fuse panel so every power line had a place to attach a ground lead. Of course I did this because the boat was made of fiberglass. On my modified vehicles, I run a lot of ground straps all over the vehicle. All it takes is one ground strap to fail and now you might run into resistance problems.
Very Informative video! I have a question though. Upto how many wattage can the relay withstand? i am planning to add an auxilliary led light that is 50 watts each. do i need to have 2 relays or just one? thanks
Great video helped so much. Is there a wat to connect that same harness to the high beams?? Mine looks exactly the same and wonder if there is a way to “tap it into” the highbeams so when you go to brights they turn on.??

Nice video, thanks. I want to use a stock Ford switch that was not on my truck originally. The back of the switch has three blades. I couldn't figure out why there would be three wires until watching your video. Is there any easy way to identify which blade would be the ground for the switch's led light without having a stock connector plug and harness to look at? Thanks
Do you have video showing how to wire in through the firewall to the switch in cab? I have 2 preexisting switches. I plan on ordering new fog and light bar for my 4runner. Could use more of ur assistance. Thank you guys keep up the awesome posting
Great Video as always. Frankly I would expect high end lights to come with a nice weather proof sealed connector rather than the cheap spade connectors.
I have a very similar harness with the same button/switch. I believe I wired it correctly but the little red light on the switch is always on, even when the vehicle is off. Is this normal or should it not be drawing constant power like that?

Typically LED lights use less amperage than older style lights. Your existing wires should be large enough to provide the power, but first check how many amps your old lights used compared to your new lights.
Thanks for this video! It is very helpful and through. I am installing running lights on my Ram 3500 and bought a wire harness with switch (5 prong rocker switch, includes relay and fuse) from nightlight. Every time I turn the switch on it blows the fuse. I’m not sure what I’ve done wrong. My wiring from harness to lights is correct polarity.
For the red cable does it have to be connected to the battery ? will it drain my battery ? or can the red cable also be connected to the engine fuse box? thank you
