Suggestion: take the score for each area multiple x the weighted value. Then add up the scores. For example, the powertrain would have a higher percent weight compared to infotainment. The reason for this is that not all the areas reviewed have the same weighted value.

Until you have to repairs the transmission, then the labor cost will be high since the location of those parts are hidden in the rear end of the front hood. Good luck. I was looking for this as well but a mechanic quickly points out to me that issue. Unless you are leasing it for 3 years, then you may want to consider these factors

    • @yankeesusa1

I agree, the only reason i would not get it is major space is missing. Almost no storage. And although reliable it's going to be interesting in the future if any major work is needed, the engine has to be removed to get behind the engine.

The problem with the ranking (and you don’t have a better way to do it bc everyone has things that want diff from others) is the metrics are equal weighted. I like how you out the data on screen so you can decide the areas you care more about and decide accordingly. I would be cool for you to put a tool on your website where you can rank the areas you care most about and the list will resort based upon preference. Ppl can certainly do this themselves but just an idea for yall.

This type of breakdown is very helpful. I find myself often looking at 3 row mid size SUVs, even though i have zero interest in a third row, because a two row midsized SUV seems to be an e danfered species. Especially if you want more creature comforts. I wish there were more mid size two rows, with a backseat bench style. I can't imagine I'm alone because I know a lot of other moms who are in a place in life that we don't need a gazillion seats, but we like a higher and roomier ride than a sedan.
Honestly, I wish Toyota would jazz up the 4runner. If they offered more luxury interior, but kept the boxy shape, I would get that.

Thanks for the broad comparison with categories.....very useful in prioritizing one's choices. Having said that I suggest not including predicted reliability in the total number. Have it as additional data. Historical reliability data virtually means nothing today. All OEMs are having issues. Weighting of the scores would be good too. Since we are talking automobiles....powertrain and driving experience should have a higher weight. Displays and rarely used gadgets don't make a great car. Once the newness wears off it will be the driving experience that determines if you keep it.

The pilot, telluride, CX90, and palisade would be my favorites here. I get the pilot probably has the worst tech as indicated by the low tech score. Still, there’s just something about having a V6 under the hood that’s smooth, powerful, not always stressed, and just comfortable as a whole. I just don’t trust those turbo-4 engines in a car this big and heavy just yet.

The Highlander is definitely becoming “irrelevant” in the class in favor of the Grand Highlander and that’s kind of disappointing to see because it used to be one of the better ones in the class even despite its smaller sizing. I believe I’ve seen more palisades and tellurides than the Highlanders. Those are like the “highlanders of South Korea” if that makes sense. And it’s not a bad product it’s just the highlander is just fainting in the shadows. It looks good, I think it feels more luxurious than its larger sibling. We’ve sat in both and the GH feels better space wise but the highlander inside looks better and feels better in terms of overall premiumness. 25th anniversary maybe the last run for the highlander until Toyota decides to cut production of it.

It did not make the top 10 but I believe would have been the #11 spot. It's still a great SUV! It just leaves a lot of points on the table for being smaller than most of these other options.

I own a Pathfinder and shopped almost everything before buying it. I'm very happy with our purchase, and I'm surprised that the Pathfinder never makes any of these lists, especially when they are comparing top trims. We bought an SV, and anything from other manufacturers in the same price range seemed to offer a lot less value. The CX-90 was a never for us because of the strange mild hybrid system and brutal interior space. I'll never understand why Mazda didn't fix the one major issue people had with the CX-9: the lack of interior space. It'll turn off a lot of families.

Never would I have thought that the GM twins would take the #2 and 3 spots on the list away from the palisade and telluride which imo are still the best in the segment. The traverse could be better in terms of premiumness but ig that’s what the Acadia is for.
I do want to ask though, how come the Acadia for a 4.5 for reliability and resale and the traverse a 5?
Now, ik the 4 cylinders have a lot of mixed reviews because they don’t sound as good and for a vehicle of this size a turbo 4 is quite small. But remember Subaru, did this with the ascent and it still seems to be going strong but not every 4 cylinder is the same. Who knows how reliable these will be.

I love this channel but the resale value and reliability scales used here are from a very unique index as here in Western Canada with snow and light off roading in pretty much every small town the Toyotas , Hondas and off late Mazda's thrash the GM/Chevy vehicles day in day out! go to any repair shop , you will realize how wrong the reliability index is in this video!
