I own two Highlander Hybrids, 2008 and 2012 Highlander. I've been wanting a new SUV but just can't seem to part with either of my Highlanders. The 2008 still gets 25/26MGP for a 16 year old SUV, and it's aged very well. I love the look of the Chevy even more than the Grand Highlander but the prices of SUV's have just got too out of control these days, having to shell out $60k for an SUV when I have two with rock-solid reliable paid off Toyota's is just keeping me from buying. I would never have believed anyone if someone told me that in 2024, SUV's we're still not breaking 20MPG in the city or even better gas mileage than a 16 year old Hybrid, I just can't wrap my head around it.
I bought my GH hybrid max in November, over 10,000 miles and we are very pleased. No mark up on MSRP.. The computer mpg is way off, as is the fuel gauge which indicates empty when you have 4+ gallons remaining. Toyota PLEASE FIX THESE PROBLEMS. I will drive this for years and couldn’t be happier with the quality and power performance. They Chevy looks very nice.
It’s by design. I have a highlander hybrid. There’s 4 gal of reserve fuel because if you run out of gas it severely damages the hybrid system. It’s annoying i know and they should do a better job of educating people. I love the highlander interior and exterior and the 35 mpg is 👌
I ordered a Traverse Z71. My 2014 Highlander XLE was the most reliable vehicle I ever had. I just sold it a month ago. However, my wife's 2020 Highlander Platinum has had many issues, such as recurring alignment problems, discrepancies between digital and analog dials, several safety recalls and, most recently, a busted a/c unit. The problems with the 2020 Highlander made me switch brands. Well, the fact that the Grand Highlander looks like a sleeping pill on wheels didn't help Toyota either.
Great review as always but I would focus on possible car seat set up options like the @ car mom does. The Traverse has more anchor points in the back row as an example.
Great review, as usual. Would like to point out that you didn't mention the front row (esp. driver) seating space. As somebody who is 6'5, I was very shocked by how little leg and shoulder space there is in the Grand Highlander. By comparison, the Traverse has an incredible amount of leg and shoulder space for the driver. I'm not sure if the space would be worth a half point, but the difference is tremendous for tall people.
@SugaGum No problem! I noticed people never really consider that a good chunk of the population is 6'0+, so the reviews don't really consider driver's seat space. And if they do, it doesn't consider the perspective of tall people. Granted, I don't expect them too. But getting into the Grand Highlander as the driver feels like getting into a very tall and long cat wrt seat space. It does not feel like the big SUV that it is.
@SugaGum In my personal opinion, yes. I rented a Traverse for a few weeks when my vehicle got totaled and it was extremely spacious. I was considering the Grand Highlander Hybrid for my new vehicle, but the moment I got into it I knew I'd never make it on a roadtrip. I really wanted to have a hybrid bc of the fuel economy, so I ended up choosing the 2024 Santa Fe Hybrid. Despite being a smaller SUV, it has equal driver's seat space as the Traverse. Plus obv way better fuel economy and lots of really cool features. If you're not in the market for hybrid vehicles, I'd def say choose the Traverse over the Grand Highlander if you need leg space.

That was a great comparison! I ordered the Highlander but really like the newTraverse. I'm still driving an older model Traverse that has never been in the shop. I took the Highlander for a test drive expecting it to far exceed my older Traverse when it came to handling. Well my older Traverse still handles better and is also a smoother ride than the Highlander.
@@Natethegreat200c The Highlander doesn't suck. I ordered the Highlander hybrid platinum back in May 2023. Expected delivery is summer of 2025. Dealer said I could cancel anytime because that particular vehicle will easily sell. I also ordered it before the new Traverse came out. I've since cancelled the order and will be getting my deposit back.
I just tested drive at my local dealership last 3 days on Chevy traverse 24 Z71 oh my god it is quicker than Accura MDX , Lexus Rx 350 far away....and very smooth with AWD most i love that's Free hands driving , it's like magic drive , you can feel confident with it , you can feel there is something helping u holding the wheel for u ☠️ yah it's.
Both excel in different things that matter the most for the segment. The GH has the objectively far superior powertrain in the segment, it is a very quiet, smooth, and powerful powertrain that returns impressive mpgs. The Traverse has the best tech and infotainment package out of the entire segment, with super cruise being absolutely superior to any other active driving systems in my opinion. Honestly you can’t go wrong with either, in my opinion these two are probably among the nicest in the segment currently.
Here in CA where the fuel price is $5 the regular Grand highlander hybrid is the answer. I just bought one and get 35mpg avg AWD model even. Slow speed city driving i see 40 mpg, 80-90 mph hwy driving 32 mpg..
Lol whut? Chevy in reliability is somewhere at the bottom of the list, while Toyota is #1. I can argue that Chevy has a more attractive design, but please don't even dream about Chevy reliability anywhere in the ballpark of Toyota lmao.

Top vs top trim I think the extra power and efficiency of the GH would win me over. But I'd assume you wouldn't have to pay MSRP for the Chevy. Base vs base trim though, the Chevy hands down wins. Over 5K cheaper and includes a massive screen, 360 camera, etc. Don't know if it comes with standard power seats or liftgate though. Either way the Grand Highlander base model is quite expensive....
@@CarGeek360 Grand Highlander. We’re more used to Toyota and the Traverse loses its value and its very unreliable. (Also the Enclave isn’t that much more, and my mom said its really ugly 😂)

Fantastic review. you glossed over that the Grand Highlander has ventilated 2nd row seats (Chevy does not). Is there any way to do a mother-of-comparison video somehow of all the comparable 3 row SUV adding in the like of: CX-90, Santa Fe, Palisade, Telluride etc...? Even if it's more numbers based incorporating your scoring methods (which are very useful). I think it would be great content and something I'm not sure is out there especially if you expand it to multiple segments. Just a thought!!
@@davidhorne2326the GH already has a recall. Toyota reliability is falling apart. Tundras and GX600 blowing up engines and Tacomas burning up transmissions. I’ll say the Highlander ends up in a scrapyard 1st.

If he has the regular hybrid version that would be accurate. The review in this video was based on the hybrid max powertrain which focus more on power than fuel efficiency. Unfortunately Toyota doesn’t offer a platinum trim level for the regular hybrid.

They’re all nice when they’re new. Look at 10 year old traverse vs 10 year old highlanders. That makes the decision easier. The traverse is good looking though.
Of course the Toyota fanboys are all of a sudden praising hybrids and turbo engines for reliability. My Chevys have all been extremely reliable. Go look up modern Toyota reliability reports… they’re not doing very well. 2.5l GM is derived from a truck engine (2.7l) and I would expect it to be more reliable than the Toyota. Toyota has had lot of issues with their turbo engines lately, in fact, their only reliable one so far is the Supra because it’s a BMW lol

Also, most hybrid powertrains don't have turbos. 2.5L Toyota engine that is in vast majority of hybrids in everything from Corolla, Camry to RAV4, Highlander, and Sienna is without turbos. It's the same engine Toyota used for ages. That's why reliability is high. That's why it is apparent to me your claims about modern Toyota reliability reports are not based on reality. If you knew better about Toyota engines you wouldn't say such nonsense about Supra. Also what you don't realize is that it's not only engines, it's all the parts Toyota uses the same trusted and true components and parts in newer vehicles - that's why their reliability is superb. For example in your Chevy or GM what usually fails is not the engine itself, but various parts, accessories that make it a nightmare to ownership. Anything from alternators, bearings, and transmission, to small things like window power servo motors and a/c compressor, lines etc. That's why Toyota is reliable and Chevy is not. That's why Japanese and Korean brands are inherently more reliable than German or domestic brands.
I have a 2013 Traverse with 150k on it and under $3000 of repairs outside of standard brakes etc. No reason to thin a 2024 isn't going to be better. And my money isn't going to Japan and staying in America.
The new Traverse and the GH were my finalist for purchasing a new vehicle. I ended up choosing the GH Hybrid XLE because of its price vs features(base model had all the features I needed and saved me almost $10,000 off top end model) and the gas mileage(I'm get 37.1 mpg- with 65%city/35% highway driving) seemed to hit home for me. My family has owned a Traverse(Gen 2) and I loved it but the transmission problems we had(replaced transmission at 75,000 miles)made me hesitant to go all in on the new one. I don't think the consumer can go wrong with either of these choices in the segment.
I’ve had a traverse for 8 years and now the trans is bad at 150k miles. I’m going with the Toyota reliability on this one. Got. Toyota tundra for myself and this will be for the wife
As a car design engineer (hybrid module) and working with almost all Americans OEM, for sure, I will pick Grand highlander. Nowadays, car companies try to hide their weaknesses behind technology and look at non luxurious Korean, American, and Chinese brands.
Y’all say it’s boring looking but I think the grand Highlander is beautiful. It doesn’t look boring to me! Some of us are loyal to Toyota and love the product. Sure some things are outdated or look a little cheap but I’ll take it over any Chevrolet! The ones saying “it’s boring” good, don’t buy it so there more for the rest of us to get 😂😂. It’s classic Toyota which some of us love.
Classic Toyota... unimpressive design that blends into the background which equals boring. Some of us are loyal to Chevy and lover their products, have never had an issue with them and wouldn't dream of owning a bland Toyota simply because it's "reliable" and has better resale value. I never understood that. Do you buy a Toyota to keep it forever or do you buy it to sell it in a few years? What's the point? Their all over priced and over hyped.
@@owleye4510 see, I disagree. I don’t think that’s an unimpressive design. Yes I do keep my vehicles long-term, my current Corolla has 126,000 miles on it and plan on getting it to 200 K. My whole family owned General Motors products, my mom drove a Buick rendezvous, I drove a Chevrolet cobalt, we also had a Chevy lumina. A GMC Jimmy. The list could go on and on, yes, a few of them were not too bad, however, all of them had at least one problem that took them off the road before 150,000 miles. The Buick had a blown transmission, my cobalt blew a head gasket, I’m not sure what the issue with the lumina was. I’m very glad that you’ve had good experiences with Chevrolet products. However, many people do not. Before you even mentioned it I do maintain my vehicle, transmission fluid every 60,000 miles, coolant on time. I make sure to take care of my vehicle. However, Chevrolet has not taken care of me at all. Going over to the Toyota side I’ve had three different Toyota, all go over 100,000 miles and keep going with no problems whatsoever. Stick with what works for you 👍🏻
@@MatthewTheCCMA I recently bought a RAV4 Hybrid and I love it. I'm a Toyota fan. However, I do try to maintain a clear view of reality. I know for sure Toyota isn't for everyone. My wife has a Hyundai Palisade 2020 in top trim and she loves it, options and comfort is even better than Lexus vehicles. She only has 18k miles so far. Realistically we are going to trade it in within the next couple of years just because something newer always comes out with better tech and more safety options. We are big on safety and technology. I don't like the outdated technology Toyota uses and lags behind the competition, though it has gotten better and finally Toyota is catching up - btw the main reason I bought the 2024 RAV4 Hybrid and not previous generation. When we'll trade Palisade in - it'll probably still have very low miles. Probably still under 30k. So I don't know. At this point, ANY manufacturer can produce a car that will last 100k miles without any issues. The majority of people don't keep their cars more than 100k miles, so the reliability point becomes moot for the vast majority. So my wife will stick to newer vehicles. As for me, I drove 7k miles in 3 months, that's about 28-30k miles a year. I'll hit 100k in 3-4 years, so for me it makes sense to drive hybrid and to consider reliability factor - hence RAV4 hybrid I bought. At the same time, I value comfort, and since I drive a lot I wanted a newer Toyota that can at least provide some modern tech options and comfort I expect.
Yeah thats a big issue with Toyota right now. There dealers are pretty scummy and they purposely don't keep as many vehicles on the lot to charge more to order them.
Sadly yes they need to fix that some how ,but in 5 years you loose way more than 5k value on the traverse in resale value compared to the grand highlander
Yeah but after a year you can get the Traverse for below MSRP so resale value ends up being a wash. Realistically, if you are good with money you can invest the 5K up front from buying the traverse and it will be worth way more than having better resale value by buying the Toyota. @@octaviodominguez7772
I like both of these vehicles, but I would ditch the hybrid max on the Toyota. I’d go with the Limited Hybrid. 35 MPG makes a big difference when comparing head to head. Slow and steady wins the race and less stops at the pump. When the Chevy gets a hybrid Z71 I’ll pull the trigger on that.
True but the hybrid max powertrain can do 0-60 in 5.6 seconds and still get 25mpg combined. Could be worth it for anyone seeking more performance. I'd assume the normal hybrid is 2 seconds slower to 60mph although you'd get about 8mpg more in the real world. Either way dropping 50K+ on a new car and worrying about mpg that much is slightly silly
@@ayushmalpeddi2793 can’t argue that the hybrid max is a good power train. All comes down to priorities and preferences. I’m closer to 60 than 30. Never been one to mash the pedal and give it the beans. In a perfect world I’d get the Lexus TX PHEV. Make my daily drive on Electric power only and still have a ICE for the 2-3 road trips out of state every year. I’d have to do a whole lot of miles before the $80,000 price tag paid itself off in gas savings. My biggest check marks are safety, reliability, comfort and cargo space. I’ll leave the drag racing to the young bucks. Still waiting on Subaru to put out a real Hybrid or EV I can live with. I got a few more years to see how the market shakes itself out. Main contenders right now are the Mazda CX-90 PHEV, the Toyota Limited Hybrid Grand Highlander and this Chevy Traverse makes a good case. (Just needs to catch up with a hybrid).

@@a6t8vw1 If you go by the EPA numbers, over a 100K miles you'll end up saving 845 gallons of gas by going with the normal hybrid over the max hybrid. Multiply that by the national average gas price of 3.65 and you get about 3K in savings over 100K miles. Not that significant at all if you can afford to drop 50K+ on a new car and insure it haha. If you really care about saving money but a used car that offers 90% of these cars for 3/5th the price. Insurance will be less as well. That's how you save money if you really care.
The base model comparison on what you get for your dollar will sway to Chevy for sure. The features that are standard seem to favor the Traverse. Would be nice to see that comparison. I want to see the Traverse at night to see its ambient lighting
Somehow Chevrolet has managed to make the Traverse look shorter than it actually is, from the side profile it looks much shorter than the Toyota GH even though it isn’t. It’s actually substantially longer.
Thinking of getting either or but just have a few concerns with the traverse even tho I like it more is it going to be just as reliable as the Toyota ?
Reliability is no reason to choose the GH over the Traverse unless you’re one of those people that believe that Toyota is the only manufacturer capable of delivering reliability today.
@@G-Ratedreliable vehicle is one of the largest decisions for me and the resale value which the Toyota has in spades. I’ve had my 16 traverse for 8 years but the transmission is blown at 150k and it’s only worth 3500 at this point. I’ll take a Toyota that’s going to last 200k-300k any day
I really wish Chevy Traverse has a 2nd row bench seat option in higher trim, they have it only in the lowest trim. GH has 8 seater option in limited and limited hybrid. Really want to pick Chevy but we need 2nd row bench seat. Don't know why can't they just offer bench option in all trims.
Another decent comparison review gents. I think you left out the under floor storage in the chevy, and while 'not significant' and extra inch of leg room in 2nd row is huge when you are over 6' tall (like most my family. One stat I would love to hear about is ease of getting into the 2nd row. I'm 6'3", and I can't get into 2nd row of a normal highlander without having to bend in awkward ways and then slouch when inside.
Nonsense. They are available and tons of them. Lookup Toyota Boardaman in OH for example, I live nearby and they have 5 GH available right now on the lot, I've seen them with my own eyes today. Lies people will tell on internet are just same old hearsay and stereotypes. It's not 2021 anymore. Cars are now abundant.
We looked and drove both the Traverse RS and Grand Highlander Max. We couldn’t overlook how stiff the seats felt on the Traverse, or how cheap and unfinished the center console looked on the Grand Islander (our 2012 Toyota Venza looks and feels more up to date). If Toyota would have used the console in the regular Highlander we would have considered the GH more. Ended up test driving a ‘24 GMC Acadia which is the luxury Traverse (GMC is to Chevy what Lexus is to Toyota) and loved the AT4 version. Local Toyota dealer wanted market adjustment above MSRP, we’re not allowed to spec out our order (still don’t understand Toyota current ordering policy). We saved $7k over the Grand Highlander Max and $6k over the Traverse RS while getting a more luxury upgraded Traverse.
Grand Highlander has hybrid as an option + has great resale value - great savings overall - New traverse is great and the huge infotainment screen is incredible but i got the grand highlander xle with moon roof.
Toyota GH and Lexus TX production has stop because of Air Bags issues. Toyota said maybe it will be fix by end of August and pre-orders are delayed at least adding 3 months on waiting time
We currently have a 2018 traverse and are looking at grand highlanders. This traverse only has 35k miles. We bought it new and it’s been in the shop more than my beater cars. 6 times so far, and 3 were for the transmission. I love the traverse, but there’s no way I’d buy another after all the issues we’ve had. I know this one has a different powertrain, but I just can’t do it.

I don't understand why the chevy gets half a point for a larger wheel? The tires generally cost more, and the ride quality is usually worse, I'd have this the other way around.
The SuperCruise on the Traverse is worth 2 or 3 points by itself if you do a lot of highway driving, it is the best hands free driving system out there easily over both the Tesla and Fords Blue Cruise.
I went with the 24 Traverse LE, Black Package and sunroof. Overall, I think it's a better looking vehicle inside and out. My ''average'' gas milage has been around 22mpg and my best has been 35mpg driving from chicago to chatanooga. I really like the vehicle. The base LE starts at 40k and has almost all the major features the RS does, minus a few things that I don't really ''NEED'' to have in a car, or, things I can add later at my leasure such as upgraded audio, 22 inch rims, etc...
ا We must take into consideration that the Highlander has had a hybrid engine for two or three years and is not like the old one, and it may contain problems. We must take the opinion of those who own this model... On the other hand, this Travis is completely new, so we cannot judge it before a year or two of use, so that the vision will be clearer.
Hands down, I would purchase the Chevrolet Traverse. The Toyota does not look as nice as the Traverse when it comes to (interior and exterior). GM, home run!!!
I do know that my Colorado is super easy to park even with the longest configuration. Nowadays with backup cams, you can just back into any spot and it's even easier than pulling into one haha. They should be pretty easy to park but would be cool to see a little clip of it
I went with the XLE Hybrid. It gets even better gas mileage than these two as I’m averaging 34 mpg combined. It has smaller wheels but bigger tires which makes the drive even quieter and smoother.

@SugaGum No problem! I noticed people never really consider that a good chunk of the population is 6'0+, so the reviews don't really consider driver's seat space. And if they do, it doesn't consider the perspective of tall people. Granted, I don't expect them too.
But getting into the Grand Highlander as the driver feels like getting into a very tall and long cat wrt seat space. It does not feel like the big SUV that it is.

@SugaGum In my personal opinion, yes. I rented a Traverse for a few weeks when my vehicle got totaled and it was extremely spacious. I was considering the Grand Highlander Hybrid for my new vehicle, but the moment I got into it I knew I'd never make it on a roadtrip. I really wanted to have a hybrid bc of the fuel economy, so I ended up choosing the 2024 Santa Fe Hybrid. Despite being a smaller SUV, it has equal driver's seat space as the Traverse. Plus obv way better fuel economy and lots of really cool features. If you're not in the market for hybrid vehicles, I'd def say choose the Traverse over the Grand Highlander if you need leg space.

That was a great comparison! I ordered the Highlander but really like the newTraverse. I'm still driving an older model Traverse that has never been in the shop. I took the Highlander for a test drive expecting it to far exceed my older Traverse when it came to handling. Well my older Traverse still handles better and is also a smoother ride than the Highlander.

@@Natethegreat200c The Highlander doesn't suck. I ordered the Highlander hybrid platinum back in May 2023. Expected delivery is summer of 2025. Dealer said I could cancel anytime because that particular vehicle will easily sell. I also ordered it before the new Traverse came out. I've since cancelled the order and will be getting my deposit back.
I just tested drive at my local dealership last 3 days on Chevy traverse 24 Z71 oh my god it is quicker than Accura MDX , Lexus Rx 350 far away....and very smooth with AWD most i love that's Free hands driving , it's like magic drive , you can feel confident with it , you can feel there is something helping u holding the wheel for u ☠️ yah it's.
if you compare the lower trims then I guess Chevy has the best value.

I bought the grand Highlander dec24 2024 and it’s the best car ever , I love it and I’m proud of my Toyota grand Highlander .
Both excel in different things that matter the most for the segment. The GH has the objectively far superior powertrain in the segment, it is a very quiet, smooth, and powerful powertrain that returns impressive mpgs. The Traverse has the best tech and infotainment package out of the entire segment, with super cruise being absolutely superior to any other active driving systems in my opinion. Honestly you can’t go wrong with either, in my opinion these two are probably among the nicest in the segment currently.
Here in CA where the fuel price is $5 the regular Grand highlander hybrid is the answer. I just bought one and get 35mpg avg AWD model even. Slow speed city driving i see 40 mpg, 80-90 mph hwy driving 32 mpg..

Top vs top trim I think the extra power and efficiency of the GH would win me over. But I'd assume you wouldn't have to pay MSRP for the Chevy. Base vs base trim though, the Chevy hands down wins. Over 5K cheaper and includes a massive screen, 360 camera, etc. Don't know if it comes with standard power seats or liftgate though. Either way the Grand Highlander base model is quite expensive....
Power lift-gate is standard on Traverse. Only the RS gets the powered third row seats.

Everywhere I look you see old Highlanders, which still look good on the road you will not see any old traverses
I see 6-12 ‘old traverse’s’ a week in my area - including my old 2010 model I traded in for a 2020. The traverses (esp 2013+) are still solid units
Fantastic review. you glossed over that the Grand Highlander has ventilated 2nd row seats (Chevy does not). Is there any way to do a mother-of-comparison video somehow of all the comparable 3 row SUV adding in the like of: CX-90, Santa Fe, Palisade, Telluride etc...? Even if it's more numbers based incorporating your scoring methods (which are very useful). I think it would be great content and something I'm not sure is out there especially if you expand it to multiple segments. Just a thought!!

I just ordered a Traverse RS. My son just purchased a Toyota Grand Highlander. According to his wife, they are getting 50 mpg.
If he has the regular hybrid version that would be accurate. The review in this video was based on the hybrid max powertrain which focus more on power than fuel efficiency. Unfortunately Toyota doesn’t offer a platinum trim level for the regular hybrid.
My only gripe is durability. Toyoda last very long time with very little issues. American brands prone to repair often

They’re all nice when they’re new. Look at 10 year old traverse vs 10 year old highlanders. That makes the decision easier. The traverse is good looking though.

Of course the Toyota fanboys are all of a sudden praising hybrids and turbo engines for reliability. My Chevys have all been extremely reliable. Go look up modern Toyota reliability reports… they’re not doing very well. 2.5l GM is derived from a truck engine (2.7l) and I would expect it to be more reliable than the Toyota. Toyota has had lot of issues with their turbo engines lately, in fact, their only reliable one so far is the Supra because it’s a BMW lol

Also, most hybrid powertrains don't have turbos. 2.5L Toyota engine that is in vast majority of hybrids in everything from Corolla, Camry to RAV4, Highlander, and Sienna is without turbos. It's the same engine Toyota used for ages. That's why reliability is high. That's why it is apparent to me your claims about modern Toyota reliability reports are not based on reality. If you knew better about Toyota engines you wouldn't say such nonsense about Supra. Also what you don't realize is that it's not only engines, it's all the parts Toyota uses the same trusted and true components and parts in newer vehicles - that's why their reliability is superb. For example in your Chevy or GM what usually fails is not the engine itself, but various parts, accessories that make it a nightmare to ownership. Anything from alternators, bearings, and transmission, to small things like window power servo motors and a/c compressor, lines etc. That's why Toyota is reliable and Chevy is not. That's why Japanese and Korean brands are inherently more reliable than German or domestic brands.
I have a 2013 Traverse with 150k on it and under $3000 of repairs outside of standard brakes etc. No reason to thin a 2024 isn't going to be better. And my money isn't going to Japan and staying in America.

The new Traverse and the GH were my finalist for purchasing a new vehicle. I ended up choosing the GH Hybrid XLE because of its price vs features(base model had all the features I needed and saved me almost $10,000 off top end model) and the gas mileage(I'm get 37.1 mpg- with 65%city/35% highway driving) seemed to hit home for me. My family has owned a Traverse(Gen 2) and I loved it but the transmission problems we had(replaced transmission at 75,000 miles)made me hesitant to go all in on the new one. I don't think the consumer can go wrong with either of these choices in the segment.
I’ve had a traverse for 8 years and now the trans is bad at 150k miles. I’m going with the Toyota reliability on this one. Got. Toyota tundra for myself and this will be for the wife
I think you missed 2 things on Traverse. Traverse does have a HUD and it also offers Power Outlet but behind the center console.

As a car design engineer (hybrid module) and working with almost all Americans OEM, for sure, I will pick Grand highlander. Nowadays, car companies try to hide their weaknesses behind technology and look at non luxurious Korean, American, and Chinese brands.

Y’all say it’s boring looking but I think the grand Highlander is beautiful. It doesn’t look boring to me! Some of us are loyal to Toyota and love the product. It’s classic Toyota which some of us love.

@@owleye4510 see, I disagree. I don’t think that’s an unimpressive design. Yes I do keep my vehicles long-term, my current Corolla has 126,000 miles on it and plan on getting it to 200 K. My whole family owned General Motors products, my mom drove a Buick rendezvous, I drove a Chevrolet cobalt, we also had a Chevy lumina. A GMC Jimmy. The list could go on and on, yes, a few of them were not too bad, however, all of them had at least one problem that took them off the road before 150,000 miles. The Buick had a blown transmission, my cobalt blew a head gasket, I’m not sure what the issue with the lumina was. I’m very glad that you’ve had good experiences with Chevrolet products. However, many people do not. Before you even mentioned it I do maintain my vehicle, transmission fluid every 60,000 miles, coolant on time. I make sure to take care of my vehicle. However, Chevrolet has not taken care of me at all.
Going over to the Toyota side I’ve had three different Toyota, all go over 100,000 miles and keep going with no problems whatsoever.

@@MatthewTheCCMA I recently bought a RAV4 Hybrid and I love it. I'm a Toyota fan. However, I do try to maintain a clear view of reality. I know for sure Toyota isn't for everyone. My wife has a Hyundai Palisade 2020 in top trim and she loves it, options and comfort is even better than Lexus vehicles. She only has 18k miles so far. Realistically we are going to trade it in within the next couple of years just because something newer always comes out with better tech and more safety options. We are big on safety and technology. I don't like the outdated technology Toyota uses and lags behind the competition, though it has gotten better and finally Toyota is catching up - btw the main reason I bought the 2024 RAV4 Hybrid and not previous generation. When we'll trade Palisade in - it'll probably still have very low miles. Probably still under 30k. So I don't know. At this point, ANY manufacturer can produce a car that will last 100k miles without any issues. The majority of people don't keep their cars more than 100k miles, so the reliability point becomes moot for the vast majority. So my wife will stick to newer vehicles. As for me, I drove 7k miles in 3 months, that's about 28-30k miles a year. I'll hit 100k in 3-4 years, so for me it makes sense to drive hybrid and to consider reliability factor - hence RAV4 hybrid I bought. At the same time, I value comfort, and since I drive a lot I wanted a newer Toyota that can at least provide some modern tech options and comfort I expect.
I have a 22 Traverse RS, it's great, never had an issue

Yeah thats a big issue with Toyota right now. There dealers are pretty scummy and they purposely don't keep as many vehicles on the lot to charge more to order them.
Sadly yes they need to fix that some how ,but in 5 years you loose way more than 5k value on the traverse in resale value compared to the grand highlander
There's dealers that sell Toyota's at sticker, you need to do some research.

Interior and tech goes to the Traverse. Exterior will always be subjective but the power and torque go to the Highlander.

I like both of these vehicles, but I would ditch the hybrid max on the Toyota. I’d go with the Limited Hybrid. 35 MPG makes a big difference when comparing head to head. Slow and steady wins the race and less stops at the pump. When the Chevy gets a hybrid Z71 I’ll pull the trigger on that.
True but the hybrid max powertrain can do 0-60 in 5.6 seconds and still get 25mpg combined. Could be worth it for anyone seeking more performance. I'd assume the normal hybrid is 2 seconds slower to 60mph although you'd get about 8mpg more in the real world. Either way dropping 50K+ on a new car and worrying about mpg that much is slightly silly
@@ayushmalpeddi2793 can’t argue that the hybrid max is a good power train. All comes down to priorities and preferences. I’m closer to 60 than 30. Never been one to mash the pedal and give it the beans. In a perfect world I’d get the Lexus TX PHEV. Make my daily drive on Electric power only and still have a ICE for the 2-3 road trips out of state every year. I’d have to do a whole lot of miles before the $80,000 price tag paid itself off in gas savings. My biggest check marks are safety, reliability, comfort and cargo space. I’ll leave the drag racing to the young bucks. Still waiting on Subaru to put out a real Hybrid or EV I can live with. I got a few more years to see how the market shakes itself out. Main contenders right now are the Mazda CX-90 PHEV, the Toyota Limited Hybrid Grand Highlander and this Chevy Traverse makes a good case. (Just needs to catch up with a hybrid).

@@a6t8vw1 If you go by the EPA numbers, over a 100K miles you'll end up saving 845 gallons of gas by going with the normal hybrid over the max hybrid. Multiply that by the national average gas price of 3.65 and you get about 3K in savings over 100K miles. Not that significant at all if you can afford to drop 50K+ on a new car and insure it haha.
If you really care about saving money but a used car that offers 90% of these cars for 3/5th the price. Insurance will be less as well. That's how you save money if you really care.

Somehow Chevrolet has managed to make the Traverse look shorter than it actually is, from the side profile it looks much shorter than the Toyota GH even though it isn’t. It’s actually substantially longer.

Toyota is for me. Just because the Traverse has good looks, reliability is more important to me.
Reliability is no reason to choose the GH over the Traverse unless you’re one of those people that believe that Toyota is the only manufacturer capable of delivering reliability today.
The standard hybrid would be the most reliable in my opinion. No turbo like the other engine options.

I really wish Chevy Traverse has a 2nd row bench seat option in higher trim, they have it only in the lowest trim. GH has 8 seater option in limited and limited hybrid. Really want to pick Chevy but we need 2nd row bench seat. Don't know why can't they just offer bench option in all trims.

Another decent comparison review gents. I think you left out the under floor storage in the chevy, and while 'not significant' and extra inch of leg room in 2nd row is huge when you are over 6' tall (like most my family.
One stat I would love to hear about is ease of getting into the 2nd row. I'm 6'3", and I can't get into 2nd row of a normal highlander without having to bend in awkward ways and then slouch when inside.

Nonsense. They are available and tons of them. Lookup Toyota Boardaman in OH for example, I live nearby and they have 5 GH available right now on the lot, I've seen them with my own eyes today. Lies people will tell on internet are just same old hearsay and stereotypes. It's not 2021 anymore. Cars are now abundant.
We looked and drove both the Traverse RS and Grand Highlander Max. We couldn’t overlook how stiff the seats felt on the Traverse, or how cheap and unfinished the center console looked on the Grand Islander (our 2012 Toyota Venza looks and feels more up to date). If Toyota would have used the console in the regular Highlander we would have considered the GH more. Ended up test driving a ‘24 GMC Acadia which is the luxury Traverse (GMC is to Chevy what Lexus is to Toyota) and loved the AT4 version. Local Toyota dealer wanted market adjustment above MSRP, we’re not allowed to spec out our order (still don’t understand Toyota current ordering policy). We saved $7k over the Grand Highlander Max and $6k over the Traverse RS while getting a more luxury upgraded Traverse.

Grand Highlander has hybrid as an option + has great resale value - great savings overall - New traverse is great and the huge infotainment screen is incredible but i got the grand highlander xle with moon roof.
Toyota GH and Lexus TX production has stop because of Air Bags issues. Toyota said maybe it will be fix by end of August and pre-orders are delayed at least adding 3 months on waiting time
We currently have a 2018 traverse and are looking at grand highlanders. This traverse only has 35k miles. We bought it new and it’s been in the shop more than my beater cars. 6 times so far, and 3 were for the transmission. I love the traverse, but there’s no way I’d buy another after all the issues we’ve had. I know this one has a different powertrain, but I just can’t do it.

I don't understand why the chevy gets half a point for a larger wheel? The tires generally cost more, and the ride quality is usually worse, I'd have this the other way around.

The SuperCruise on the Traverse is worth 2 or 3 points by itself if you do a lot of highway driving, it is the best hands free driving system out there easily over both the Tesla and Fords Blue Cruise.
I went with the 24 Traverse LE, Black Package and sunroof. Overall, I think it's a better looking vehicle inside and out. My ''average'' gas milage has been around 22mpg and my best has been 35mpg driving from chicago to chatanooga. I really like the vehicle. The base LE starts at 40k and has almost all the major features the RS does, minus a few things that I don't really ''NEED'' to have in a car, or, things I can add later at my leasure such as upgraded audio, 22 inch rims, etc...
What about expected reliability? Chevy 2-3 vs Toyota 8-9.

Nice video but which wish you didn’t compare a hybrid to a regular engine, as it’s obvious hybrids will always have more power it seems.
I'd take the 1) GMC Terrain 2) Chevrolet Traverse 3) Toyota Grand Highlander. GMC has the heads-up display, and both look better imho than the Toyo
I believe the Terrain is smaller so you would maybe compare the Acadia to it instead. Those are really nice too.

How hard is it to park them?
I do know that my Colorado is super easy to park even with the longest configuration. Nowadays with backup cams, you can just back into any spot and it's even easier than pulling into one haha. They should be pretty easy to park but would be cool to see a little clip of it

I went with the XLE Hybrid. It gets even better gas mileage than these two as I’m averaging 34 mpg combined. It has smaller wheels but bigger tires which makes the drive even quieter and smoother.
Who cares about which has more gears? The hybrid provides torque fill which negates the need to have more gears

Love the way the traverse looks but highlander has higher ground clearance, interior is more usable and 27-35 mpg is amazing for an SUV this size
