Out of all the weird things Ford motor company has done throughout its history, this is by far one of the strangest. After the foxbody Mustang had been out for over a decade and run its course, Ford noticed the world starting to sway over to smaller more compact vehicles with better gas milage and front wheel drive. With Ford owning the majority of Mazda at the time they decided "hey let's just use Mazda to build our new Mustang of the future." The result was this - the Ford Probe GT. Originally called the Mustang and based on the Mazda MX6. For the most part all but the interior was Mazda and not Ford. So what's the in depth story about this thing and why was it cancelled as the Mustang? Let's talk about it. Thanks for watching and new uploads every Tuesday,Thursday, and Saturday!
#ford #mustang #mazda
"Worst Mustang ever made..." Yet, every GT version of the Probe made, with a 5 speed, was faster in the quarter than the Mustang GT of the same year, all the way up to the early 00's. And could out handle a Mustang for that matter as well.
Yeah, it's a cult car currently, but you picked a horrible example to review. The automatic is made of glass, and sucks any fun away from the car that there is.
Agreed, one of his most misinformed reviews there is. I'd like him to review the mx6 5 speed and tell us how 'slow' and 'unreliable' it is then.
Didn’t Ford recall the Probe GT automatic? I think it was overheating and the fix was to install an external cooler but by the time the cooler was installed, the transmission was almost done.
And will outlast the mustang gt Mine had 287,000 miles still kicking a$$ I want another one plus you punch a gt you spinning around
100% right. The first gen GT was faster in nearly every way then the comparable year 5.0 (which was a TURD making 205 HP and 275 ft/lb), mostly because it was 400 lbs less and had more tire, and considerably better aero.
Uh, the 93 PGT only did a 15.5 quarter mile if I recall correctly. You're telling me an MGT couldn't beat that? Please. Stock Fox body MGT's were running high 14's all the time.
I love these oddball car reviews. My buddy had one of these in high school it was a 5speed. Surprisingly quick and he could beat fox body mustang's if they were autos (driver mod) Keep up the forgotten car reviews I always remember the quirky cars.
That is one clean Kia, my G. I also had one of these growing up, wasnt a 5spd unfortunately.
@@oustandingsitter6106 Thanks! Yeah I feel like the v6 with the 5speed was pretty fun but the 4spd auto killed these cars.
My dad had a manual GT, the tiny little V6 revved pretty high too.
@@BassFace1776 Having had a car with that 4speed I can confirm it is a buzzkill. However its one redeeming feature was the linear power delivery. My current car's transmission however is like a bad translator sometimes, Engine: "Scotty, build the power. but not to much with traffic up ahead." Transmission: (Lazy daisy picking) "Oh wait wut did you say something? Oh, KILL THE TIRES!". That is how I feel like Ford's 6speeds think when paired to the their modern V6's anyway, lol.
I had the 5 spd, 4 cylinder "GL".....(bottom of the barrel) for my first car. I loved it.
I could sleep 2 with the back seats down. Very, very handy at field parties. :)
Imagine a Ford Probe SVT
Jeremy Hill my dad i mean used to one one of those but on manual only and I got to say driving this car is fun

Jeremy Hill unfortunately the car was totaled in a car accident by some dumb driver that can't see any cars passing by that happened when we were leaving the gas station because my dad wanted to teach me to learn how to drive manual in order to get one of my dream cars it happened in November in 2018. The manual version of this car was actually a lot of fun.
Absolutely, it was a blast to drive!!!

I actually really likes this year probe i liked the styling and it really handled great
Yes and even though they are easy to find for sale alot of them are automatic 😖😖😖

This is a 2nd generation probe
The 1st gen was going to be the mustang replacement

My first car! 1994 Probe GT 5 speed. I loved it.
My 2nd was a 1993 PGT w/ 5sp manual. Same here; loved it and actually hunting for another GT, whether 1sr or 2nd generation. I need a coupe....and stick shift again.👍
crazy my first car was a 94 Probe GT also 5 speed. motor swapped. with the Mazda MX6 motor
I had an MX-6 V6 5 Speed. I loved that thing too.
Brian Plescovich too cool man. My first was an ‘89 LX and 2nd was a ‘94 SE...both auto unfortunately. He wasn’t kidding about the second gen’s trans being weak. Mine broke once back in the day and I had it rebuilt, and they rebuilt it 5 more times under warranty within 5k miles... ugh, not good memories there. And it was stock!! My 2nd gen looked sick slammed on some 17” Koenig Tantrums, though!
I currently have a 93 probe gt. Love it!
The Probe was a beautiful car like the Mercury Cougar.
Underrated Cars
I agree with the first part
For real. Updated headlights and taillights, and they both could pass for a modern car.
Except the Cougar didn't measure up. I had a 93 PGT and the only system I can compliment the Cougar on are the brakes. IMO. Everything else was crap when I compared it to the PGT.
I've had both. The Cougar with the 3.0 swap was so much more fun. Love them both.
My grandma has a Probe GT that only has 30k miles on it and has never seen the winter, it’s her baby. She keeps it in the garage in Cleveland during the winter when her and my grandpa go to Florida until the weather gets nice again.

Man, I miss my super clean probe GT.
It was a 5 speed, super clean, rebuilt motor with forged internals. 5 speed manual as God intended, and a gutted interior and a straight pipe. It was decently quick, and a perfect first "fast" car.
Where did you got the forged internals for that motor?

oh no:(
I'm thinking seriously about buying one with KLDE by don't want it to break or smth if I put turbo on it:(
It is one of the best, as a matter of fact: a true affordable sportscar based on common technology of the time. None got closer to the original Mustang.
David my dad used to own one of these in manual and he got it in a good price in Craigslist. It was a good car and it handle well for 5 years
My dad had a Probe GT in the late 90’s when I was just a kid. I remember that car fondly. Apparently he once brought it to the drag strip with nitrous. I think he wanted something a little quicker. His next car was an Integra Type R.
My Corrado SLC killed a Type R in a quarter mile race one night in Orlando. He got me off the line, but my VR6 prevailed in the end.
Flies2FLL your full of shit. Even then to brag about a having 2 more liters than the integra is also pretty sad
I did the same: 1993 Probe GT to 1995 Integra GSR, then Type R. At the time, the Probe GT won nearly every test it was in. Great handling, smooth engine, great 5-speed shifter, and very refined. Miss that car...

Thank you for taking your time in making this video. I too have a ford probe gt that keeps up perfectly fine with all the modern sport cars. Very satisfied with the car compared to all the negative reviews lol. Fun car
Has everyone forgotten the Mustang II (or the highest-spec Pinto ever)?
these kids have no idea what you're talking about
Exactly! The very existence of the Mustang II nullifies the title of the video. Lol
Yes, yes we do.. And I CHOOSE to forget the economy and style eyesore in the Mustang history roster. 🙄😒
The one that sold really well? Yes I remember it.
Has everyone forgotten they built it because there was a gas crisis at the time?
Mustang II is way better then the Probe. Small, light, RWD, V8 compatible, great front suspension design.
Best looking "mustang" ever made! I had 2 manual probes (1st was the 16v then the 24v gt) loved them both. The v6 shifted well and never game me any problems at all. It's obviously no 3000gt but still a very good car even now.
A friend back in college had the previous version with a turbo and was fun as hell to ride in.
I had a 3000GT honestly it was a piece of shit. I wrecked it to doing like 105 on the highway in Chicago of the I-88 going towards arura.
@@847mario That's your fault, not the car's...
I'm so happy you finally got your hands on one of these to review! I loved mine, I had my 93 GT as a first car. It's one of the best cars that I've ever owned. It never left me stranded and it was a great road-trip car. I'm just sad that you were stuck with an auto and that awful exhaust. That car can sound so much better than that.
Facts. I had a 94 GT 5-speed with a Borla cat-back on it in high school/college, and it sounded phenomenal. It wasn't the fastest thing, but it was peppy enough for its day, and that engine note through that exhaust was most likely the best sounding car I've ever owned. And those cars could really handle. They were THE car to have in their autocross class, back in those days. They were handily beating the Integra GSRs, DSMs, etc of the period, around the cones. And it was stunning how much crap you could fit in that hatch. I moved back and forth to college with that car a few times, and took it camping pretty regularly as well.
But you're right: The autos in those cars SUCKED, and whatever ricey exhaust the owner put on it sounds terrible. Wish he could've found a 5-speed with a better (or even stock) exhaust to review. I bet it would've changed his opinion on it.
I love the Apexi N1 on my Probe.... Quiet until about 3,000 rpms, then it screams
My stepdad had one of these years ago, he loved it, it never broke down on him, was quick and fun to drive. He sold it for a passat and regretted it lol
1997 (Probe GT)
Ford: Let's ruin the Mustang
Ford owners: Don't you dare

"The probe has a weird taste in anybodys mouth."

Mostly when they came out. And brand new. Of course people buying used and car guys liked it.

I owned a then new96 probe GTS and I loved it. It handled so well. The 96 was the one to get. For 97 they softened the suspension due to hard ride complaints.
Yeah man I had a 97 GTS 5 speed and I loved it at the time. It is slow compared to today’s cars.
@@OscarGarcia-st5fc yes I had a 93 GT a 95 GT and a 97 GTS.. in 97 GTS was burgundy with the chrome squirrely's and was beautiful 5 speed manual handled like a dream.... I don't know what douchebags talkin about he's driving an automatic when he could at least pick the manual one... Sorry he's hitting the soft spot on this one back in the day these cars were beautiful in the late 90's. But half the shit he vomited in the video is not even right not he needs to do a little more research before putting out the video...
@RS1 eat shit! Lovely picture by the way is that your wife tell her LAY off the fried Chicken and chocolate it's bad for your HEALTH!! 🤦
To add to your suspension talk... The 93 was the lowest, and firmest suspension there was, and the Probe was softened and raised each year up to the 97. While the 96/97 cosmetically had the nice tail lights and rear bumper, the 93 was the one to get with the firmest and lowest suspension in my book. Of course I've owned my 93 since new. Plus, 93's had the full dash button set up, unlike the rest where you have blank buttons over the EQ space/pocket space on the dash.
My father had a 96, I had the 95. The 96 was perfect
7:23 everything you said here is all because this specific one is automatic lol
Chaz Gunther yea
My uncle is obsessed with Probes. I think he has 3 right now. My favorite obviously are his 5spd v6's. One of them is fully built. The 2.5 v6 was done with a lot of English performance parts. He also has a supercharger on it. Right now he's putting a 2.0 ecoboost in one and converting it over to rwd and using a focus steering rack. Pretty stoked to see how that one goes.
I have a 1994 ford probe gt in wild orchard purple my aunt gave it to me it has 47,000 original miles
Rare color bro. Hold onto it.
@@rianhassan3149 yea what's up with that is it special edition I noticed it has the seats with the purple triangles too
@@Andrew-bv6qc I never liked that interior. My two were always black, and if I had a different color interior, I would have swapped it to black. It's the best color for these cars. I have never had the pleasure of seeing one in person. They are a rare color factory option. They had a few other rare color options too. Seafoam green, tealmist something, tangerine orange. Also, I believe the side mirrors for all the years came with the wiring harness for heated as well as non-heated side mirrors, but only certain years came with them. So technically, find out the years, swap em out, and good to go. I got rid of the cars before I had a chance to put em on. Your best bet is facebook if you are searching for knowledge and parts. There are people all over the States (and world) who treasure these cars and still rock em.
I owned my '96 PGT for 10 years and loved it! But unfortunately I had to let it go. It was black with tan leather interior. Fun car to drive! A popular thing was to swap in a 'ZE' motor. They made closer to 200 hp.
Had 2 ZE swapped GT's, with bolt on's they moved pretty good.
Over 200 with Maf swap. Sub 6 seconds - 60 with no turbo. Could always mildly turbo that as well.
Someone needs to bring him a 1st gen with the boosted motor.
@Andy Andeeee Sounds like an SRT-Fourd
My dad had one for a while and it was am amazing car. Wish he had kept it until I was able to drive, because I would've bought it off of him.
Love my 97 GT 5 speed. It's fun taking to meets and having people ask what the hell it even is 😂
Sorry but this is one of your worst and most misinformed videos, not only are you VERY wrong about the reliability of the KL v6 but the 5 speed was quicker than the previous mustang and camaro's of it's time. Again I don't know where you got that info about its reliability but the KL was a very strong motor often outlasting the car's other components like power steering and transmission. I think you should re-make this video or put something in the description about that. Also you should review the mx-6 now, not only did it handle much better thanks to 4ws but it was even lighter too.
My brother has one and its killed mustangs, camaros and even a shitty 2005 GTO automatic. Such an underrated car but not a bad one
Didn't these engines constantly have piston rings issues? Personally driven an mx3, mx6, and a probe, all were shooting blue smoke out of the tailpipe. And the trans constantly threw diffs...
@Default User Clearly you bought a lemon, most cars won't survive past a certain amount of miles if you don't take care of them like you should.
@@zo.v1601 Like I said in my last comment, if you take care of the motor like you should it won't have that problem. That being said the first point of failure for these motors is normally the rods but you have to thrash it pretty hard to do that. There are many examples of boosted KL's that have lasted for a long time even though it was designed as an NA motor, also it doesn't cost much to get forged pistons/rods for these engines and they're actually pretty easy to come by. If you ever blow your mx6/probe you can easily swap one from a 323 or 626 of which there are plenty.
@@zo.v1601 as for the trans yes they are the weak point because it wasn't entirely designed for the torque of the v6, but there are also aftermarket LSDs and a simple trans-saver plate will stop your case from cracking under high torque load.
These things were actually really awesome back in the day. MT Car of the Year, almost 1G on the skid plate stock, and the V6 when in tune, is still one of the smoothest motors I've ever driven. If I ever see another one with the right powertrain/drivetrain (stay away from the autos here) I'd love to have another one as a project. You should also compare this with a Mustang of the same year. The stock 5.0L wasn't much faster :/ Still, great to see one of my favorite cars of all time get a little attention!
Had one of these when i was 17 lol loving that you're doing all these oddball cars feel like it really hits home with some people

How much? Im in bham and i want a fun project car
I’d honestly probably sell it tbh I don’t think I’d regret it’s just rotting in the garage basically it runs and drives and I want to focus on my prelude. I’m just scared of regretting selling it but it probably wouldn’t bug me since I had some fun with it.
I owned two Ford Probes back in 2010, to me they always felt like you were driving around in something special, they had a surreal quality about them that you just don't get with other cars. Don't forget that that the Probe was built in a time when people still used there imaginations...it was a space ship to transport you to where you wanted to go, younger people don't see the same way...

No mention of the first gen, turbo car?
Yeah, lots of inaccurate information in this video too.
Was this guy even born when the first probes were built? The 89 turbo probe with 5 speed was a really nice car. The model in this video was the probe on its way out
My first ride in a turbo car was when I was a kid, in the first gen Probe. I remember there was turbo lag, but when the turbo spoiled up, the car took off. Granted, I was a kid, but it felt fast at the time. Haha!
A guy in my neighborhood still daily’s a first gen he bought new. It’s rough but still going strong.(probably not a the turbo)
@Andy Andeeee I've always questioned those numbers. The 89 Probe GT that I had pulled very hard once the turbo spooled.

Man this takes me back! I had a PGT and a MX6 LS, both in manual. The GT was more fun to drive, the LS more budget luxury. That Mazda V6 was insanely smooth and so cool sounding. I would ride around, sunroof open, windows down, music off, just enjoying the exhaust note.
Such simple good times back then...*sigh*
Get another one! Lol they're cheap fun nowadays. Around me (Ohio) they can be had all day for $500-$2000 with the higher prices cars in almost perfect shape, usually
Thank you for doing this video man, you took me down memory lane! My first car at 16 was a 95 probe gt 5 speed. There were a few guys at school with mustangs... but honestly I think the probe was more fun to cruise around in. You may think thats crazy, but in the early 2000's big sereos were popular. I had two 10 inch subs mounted in the hatch and man did those things hit hard.... ah the memories!
I haven't watched your channel since trading in my '13 Mustang GT. Anyhow, this review popped up and I was like...huh? Let me explain. When I got out of the Army in '91, my brother's best friend had just bought one of these. It was bright red, with a sunroof, 5 speed and a cool looking trunk mounted spoiler. I took it for a test drive and thought it was one of the coolest cars ever. Hey, my car at that time was an '80 Datsun 210 Hatchback! E246ixer essentially the the klze and the kl03 are the same minus the compression and milder cams. The probe/mx6 & 626 all got the kl03.
@@JasonT._3568 it was a swap. IIRC the owner previously had the supercharged version out of a mazda millenia but then got the klze from an importer and built it to be a rev happy N/a monster. Thing sounded like an F1 car with all the reverb in the car wash stall.
I bet it sounded gnarly. I like the MX6 a lot.
@@JasonT._3568 KL03=KLDE and if you Google KLDE intake runners vs KLG4 (later 626 cars) vs KLZE you'll see the difference. KLDE cars (early 626's, all Probes, all MX6's) have oval ports, KLG4 has more of a rounded square, and the KLZE has the most square ports of the group, with the best flowing heads/intakes out of the stock parts. @@LALTACH yeah I know quite a bit about them. I had a 91 mx6 lx I wanted to swap a f2t in. Mine had the non turbo motor which made 110hp and 126ft lb of torque. I did a few things to it and got it down to a 15.9 quarter. Wish I had the turbo motor, it was a bit of a beast for the time.
"if you do that in a 3000gt it would probably break" I know that one the hard way😥
I had a new Probe, It was kitted out and looked great. It ran perfect thanks to having a Japanese engine. Its engine went at 286500
pop up up and down headlights
Were they better than gm's pop up and one never goes down headlights
I think “Probe” is a terrible name for a car. By the way, I love my SN95.
The probe was actually faster than the current mustang at the time but they detuned it to be slower
Love mine too
Lol a friend once told me "replace Ford with Anal and it all becomes so much funnier"
@Samual Jones search up videos of them drag racing stock and pulls you'll see the difference
Mustang made like 70 more hp and 150 ftlbs more. So no, the probe was not faster. Yeah its annoying how much david rags on sn95s...
I worked at a grocery store as my first job in high school. One of the night stockers drove a Probe. I always thought it looked cool, even though it's not that great of a car.
I had a manual one of these cars and i loved it. It was peppy and fun as hell to drive.
"Was the S95 the best Mustang ever created? No"
*Terminator owners & enthusiasts begin furiously typing disagreements in the comments*
SN95 was the ugliest IMO. It looked like its doors had been hit and caved in.
They got rid the hatchback mustang, it was going to be good after that.
True story. There is one model in Flat Rock Assembly, in a basement, that has all of the mustang emblems on it. Just one.
Wow!
Now that would be neat to see.
Seeing it in person would give me the heebie jeebies.
Back in high school my buddy had a 97 Ford Probe GT with a 5-speed and it was a real fun driver's car for me but it kept breaking
I owned two of these. A 97SE auto and 95 GT manual. Loved both of them.
I loved the sound of the V6. Liked doing timing belts better on the V6 than on the 4cyl as well, despite the tighter space.
95 GT manual here too. Miss it, good luck finding another :(
I have a 94 gt with a 5speed and it is amazingly different from a automatic i swapped out the auto trans for a 5 speed out of a mx6 and its awesome over 200,000 miles and still runs perfect
I had a ‘93 GT automatic (red). I put an external tranny cooler on it and kept it for 14 years. The ‘93’s suspension was quite a.bit tighter than the later models because customers complained; I liked it.. the V-6 was smooth and would rev to 7200 before the limiter kicked in. The seats were good and I miss the 8-way power seat in my ST. I’d still have it but the body was starting to rust away. Motor Trend car of the year in 1993,
I love the probe and MX-6. I really wish they were appreciated more
they would if RWD...
@@JR-kf5op yeah that makes sense
I still have a 94 in good condition..Love how it handles..Would have have liked rear wheel drive and a bigger engine..
It was a "sport compact car", hence the FWD was appropriate here. I know, I had a GT for 4 years, and I loved every minute of it!!
David, you gotta do a review In a manual Probe GT bro! Had a 93GT and a 97GT back in the day. Both manuals.
Chip Henley the v6’s were decently quick especially for their time-period. In the mid-90’s there wasn’t a whole lot of cars that were much faster.
I think 0-60 was 6.4 seconds with the 5MT
Mine is modified quite a lot, but I'd let someone review it when it's done lol
I have yet to get a second gen GT with the manual trans.
I had 97 GT with the automatic, and a 97 base with a manual trans.
The base was more fun for me.
Handling was its strong suit. It could easily out-handle any Stang from that time period.
So glad to see a new review on the Probe! Favorite car ever, literally. I have had three Probes and always looking for my next one. Love everything about them. When looked at based on its own merits (not as a Mustang replacement), the PGT is an awesome car. Word to the wise, avoid the automatic transmission like the plague (at least on the GT models). It is a Ford unit and known for having endless issues.
I keep coming back to this video. I waited 2 years for you to do this David!!!I miss my 5 speed PGT 😢 Was even better my buddy saw this car and sent me pictures two weeks before you reviewed it 😂
Love you dude, thanks for keeping me busy during this crap
I’ll never forget my best friend bought a real automatic when we were in HS in the 90’s, stopped by my job to let me drive it, and told me I had to put my foot on the brake and accelerator at the same time before it cut off while in reverse. I knew at that moment it was a POS. But now that I look at it and the MX6, I love them both, especially since coupes are becoming a thing of the past across the gamut. - Awesome review!
The Autoweek magazine cover called it the "Maztang", The face that launched a million very angry letters or thereabouts.
I loved them when they came out. Particularly the GT. I still think that it is a beautiful car. That it is a Mazda makes it even better. The probe was a better car than the MX6, which, I think was an acquired taste.
The MX-6 was the softer of the two with slightly longer final gear, a trunk instead of a useful hatch, and no flip up headlights.
I always liked these cars, even when I was a teen.
1993 Probe GT with manual trans was my first car when I was 16. I blew up the engine when I was 18 and it was how I learned so much about wrenching on cars. I bought the KLZE engine from japan which was 200hp instead of the US spec 164hp engine, and swapped it in and that’s how I really got into wrenching on cars for the rest of my life. I’m 36 now and it seems like forever ago but I got a lot out of the car just from an educational standpoint.
I actually liked these cars, a good friend in high school had the mx-6 V6 and I loved driving it. Always loved the looks of that version of the Probe GT (not first gen one). Yes I'm that old and it was new when I was in high school.
My first car was the Probe's little sister, it was the Mazda MX3. They're all fun cars for that era.
Mx3 has the world's smallest v6 I think 2.0
@@williamalejandro9139 MX3 was 1.8L, the K8. The Mazda Lantis and lower spec Japanese MX6s had the 2.0L KF.
I had the little 4 banger. My wishlist was to put a rotary engine in it.
@@pimnmike With the 4 cylinder being a relative to the Miata engine, I wouldn't be surprised if that isn't the better platform for making power, at least nowadays. The K-series V6s just don't have anywhere near the same aftermarket support.
Actually, there was a 1.6l version 4banger. I had one.. Then there was the 1.8l V6... Which must have had the tiniest pistons ever to share between two more cylinders and only bigger by 0.2l displacement. Lol super aerodynamic cars though.. Made great sounds inside to with a sound system.. I rocked mine out for sure!!! 😄
I actually really like that V6, I think it's pretty cool. It even had a 1.8l variant in the MX-3, and (as always) Japan got a cooler high-revving version that could go past 7k. I'd love to put one in a Miata one day...
The motoring press were generally favorable back when it launched on both sides of the ocean. Still got a few magazines with it in. Interestingly, at least here on European soil, the press where more favourable of the 4 cylinders handling, putting it down to less weight over the front wheels.
The thinking of it becoming the new Mustang had stemmed from the impact of European & Japanese front wheel drive imports affecting the sales of the Mustang and if you scour the internet there's a few pics of it in concept stage wearing the famous Mustang badge. I must agree though, I don't think it would have done the Mustang brand any favours.
Its name 'Probe' was clearly a miscalculation as it attracted ribald comments. Previously Ford had been using the name on concept cars intending to show Fords attempt to 'probe the future' and Vandermolen and her team had pulled off quite an edgy futuristic design. It even featured in the futuristic segments of the film 'demolition man', all be it a heavily modified versions but none the less it fit the bill.
In the right colour and trim, to my eye the gen 2 is still a bit of a looker and I think its worthy of its cult following.
Don't forget the probe was in back to the future 2!
I had a 1993 White Ford Probe GT as my fist car! Had to get rid of it when my transmission blew out. I still love this car and if I ever find a white manual GT Probe I would buy it as a project car. Thanks for doing this video! Brought back good memories driving my girlfriend around 18 years ago. She’s now my wife.
I bought a brand new red Ford Probe GT in 1995. Five speed manual, six cylinder with electric sunroof. I absolutely adored this beautiful, unique car and I still have dreams where I am driving it! I outfitted it with a black "bra" that looked super cool when the headlights popped open! I only got rid of it when I had my son, because the tight, curvy back seat did not easily accomodate a car seat. I never thought of it as a Mustang, more of a big brother to the Mazda Miata (MX6 vs MX5).
I say we hand write 50,000 letters to Ford about the “Mustang” Mach-E
Too bad women are already flocking to the mach E just like they did to the ugly flex
@William Schwartz flex was nowhere close to a failure.... What are you using to base that statement on? They only ditched the name because the explorer changed layouts and taurus was discontinued... All 3 sharing the same D car platform
William Schwartz um what do u mean. I see Ford Flex’s all the time everywhere. But yes they were a failure in how horrible they sold which is sad. It was a pretty comfortable car and with plenty of room. Plus I have a soft spot for body looking cars. And the Ford Flex’s body kinda resembles a station wagon which it is. And I love station wagons
William Schwartz I’m kinda curious in which area do u live in? Cause here in South Florida you see Flex’s everywhere. But yeah I hardly see any Freestyle’s here anymore
@David Zuluaga: just because you see a lot of Flex in your hometown doesn’t mean its the same everywhere else.
Hardly any Flex on the roads here in NorCal...
Hey dave i would love to see some youtube detailers review your patterson car car care stuff
Someone besides him or friends.
It would be cool to see "Detail Geek" try out his products!
@@zillatowntv some unbiased reviewer.
I thought the probe community was crazy when they had multiple over the years, now on my 4th.
I have not been able to get my hand on since one I got in Detroit 2 years ago 😥 I have recently seen an all original 4 cylidner car and a GT that was trashed and an auto...
@@R3AL-AIM I have a 93 pgt manual v6 with 75k miles mint condition and I'm in Oakland county If you are interested in buying
The trouble with car fans is that everything with two doors is suddenly a "sports car". It's just a two door coupe. Doesn't have to be fast. 90s vehicles are AMAZINGLY reliable, especially JDM ones. In the 90s, anything close to 200HP was damn quick. And that sound is that awesome small displacement V6.
I had a 97 GT, I bought in 2003, only had 60K original miles, It was the first FWD car I had ever owned. Nice clean car, looked new inside and out. I live in Texas, and hardly ever see much snow, but that winter we had an unusual amount and the Probe handled it, surprisingly well. I never got stuck. I didn't find any major complaints about the car. The only reason I sold it, was because I couldn't live without a V8.
94 Probe GT 5spd was my first car. Drove the shit out of that thing lol.
👍 nice
Love my GT 5 speed, drive it every day in the summer still ! Neat green with tan leather, fully stock
If I'm not mistaken the v6 is the same one from the mx6 and the 626
Actually... I had a 1996 Probe GT with a five speed and loved it! good handling car, good milage and a cool V6 sound to it. I put Eibach springs on it to make it an even better handling car.. sold it with 85 grand on the odometer.. good car..
I have a first gen 90 GT with the turbo it came with stock, great car. Great trunk space, usable four seats, five speed, four cylinder gas mileage, light and fun while being a great daily even 30 years later. Never left me stranded, sat for three years and needs some work but I'll get it back to perfect one day
There is one thing you forgot to mention in your video !!! We can't compare sports cars now with Ford Probes from 80 to 90 !!! We are not at the same time !!! In addition, you do not know the good old days !!! Because you are too young to understand that the Ford Probe was much more respected than you think !!!
When I was a kid, I REALLY wanted one. I still kinda do, like the Contour SVT or V6 manual.
Learned how to drive stick in my dads 96 gt probe when I was 14! Had a lot of good memories in that car. Thanks for the video on this! Cant believe that was 20 years ago already learning to drive that car.
My dad had a 1st gen Probe, 6 cylinder.
It was a cool car in my eyes.
I have one a V6 5 speed and I'm currently respraying it for my son who is about to get his licence in Australia, A Royal Purple one. It has been a fantastic car and has nearly 400 000 kms on the clock. It is only now getting smokey and tired, but has been totally reliable, and still runs today. I will also refreah the engine before I hand it over to him, but I am the firat owner of it. Bought it brand new when I was 22 and have many fond memories in it.
My son can't wait, loves the pop up headlights and how rare it is now.
I can't tell you how many of these I've had!! Strayed away from the 4 bangers, boysnberry blue, tangerine frost, and Atlantic blue were my favorites. I bought 3 orchid purple 94 probe gts from a guy years back. There's quite a bit I know about these cars. Working on a deal with a gentleman that has a 96 5 speed gt with 64k original miles at the time of me typing this.
send a manual one my way when you are done with it
The design is an evolution of the 1st Gen. Find a 1989 turbo Probe.
My brother has 1 of those 😁 he got it for $300
