I had a 93 Probe GT back in the late 90's when it was only a few years old with less than 50k miles. I had a love/hate relationship with that car. At the time, it was an attainable dream car for me, but the car spent more time in the shop than it did on the road. Every time I fixed it, it would break down again. And here we are, 30 years later, same old story. It's a shame that car wasn't reliable... I would've kept it a long time. Sometimes I think about picking up a project Probe for nostalgic reasons. Unlike the late 90's, I could actually afford the repairs now.
PGT's are HELLAFUN...Ive had 4...and still have 2..First was relaible...second was Rock solid....3rd..LOTS of breakdowns...4th DIED in 2 months..7 years ago..and still dead..(now a parts car).... STOCK suspension is a total monster...soooo stiff...LOVE it!!! BODY kit next for you..and restore the PURP_LE!!!
My mother had one of these in red. She was going to give it to me as a grad school graduation present just before she had paid it off. We were gonna swap cars. She was going to drive my 91 Ford Tempo home and trade it in to buy herself a different car. When she was driving it to me, she let my brother drive part of the way. While he was driving, they got in a wreck that totaled the car. Thankfully, no injuries to anyone involved. I got stuck with my old tempo for a while longer and I've kind of wanted one of these ever since, even though I've had much cooler, better cars in the 20+ years since.
Lol my mom was gonna give me her pristine 1991 Prelude Si in 1999 when I turned 16 but she flipped it over. 😢 she wasn’t hurt thank GOD-I was actually impressed by that car-but it still irritates me I couldn’t get that car.
Next project for it, make it a super easy one... replace the worn out wiper blades, front and rear. :D Glad to see it up and running! It needs to stay that way, it's an awesome rad ride!
This car was the reason i joined your channel years back! So glad to see it revisited! I had a 95 GT back in highschool. Yes, it was a headache to work on but man it was a fun ride! Hope to see more of it in the future!
Starting to take in that I haven’t seen a Ford Probe on the road in… probably 6ish years. They just quietly sauntered off when they were not a rare sight just prior to that. It’s a shame because I too like the shape.
I literally grinned for 10:01 just now. Man, consider a title transfer to someone whose name is Dave 😅. Me needs a beater 3rd car with a manual and I owned a 97 SE many years ago. Loved it, the GT was always the dream.
I have a ‘97 probe gts black with the original racing stripes in white. The paint is is the same condition as yours. My concern about getting it painted are the plastics. The original bumper and plastics paint has more of a gummy consistency, not the same as just adding flex additive or adhesion promoter to plastics . If you ever get it painted I would love to see how the paint shop handles the plastics. Because if the plastics aren’t done right the paint specially on the bumpers will spiderweb-crack at the slightest impact. I had a ‘93 probe repainted and that happened. If anyone remembers the Taurus commercials about the flexible bumpers you’ll see the paint flexes and does not crack and this how it was in real life with the probe’s original paint.
I love that color. You know it was almost the replacement for the Ford Mustang. Thank goodness they didn't. Please repaint it. I love the color. Glad 😊 it's finally running 🏃♀️ good. Hang in there buddy 🙏 ❤️. I know it's been such a frustrating car for you.
I dont know if its because its holiday time or mercury is in retrograde but I got kind of emotional watching this. Im so happy shes running again. I had a 95 also in thia color. I had her 11 years and to this day still is my favorite car Ive ever owned. 💜
1994 Probe SE was my first car and I kept that thing for ~14 years. It didn't have the big engine but it was so light and nimble. Loved driving it, the balance and handling were really nicely done. Like yours the paint was terrible. It looked great at first but quickly started deteriorating (apparently a common problem with the paint on these).
I am so excited for this new Video with the probe :). I found you because I was spamming every Social Media with searching for Videos and Posts with Ford probes. My girlfriend an I are so in love with these vehicles and we want one each as our beloved daily. Also I love your channel because of the craziness of the cars and that each car you have is somehow weird ^^ Greetings from Germany, can't wait to Find a clean Probe in the wild. Love the purple btw
Once upon a time, I was a broke college graduate... I sold a 1996 Nissan Maxima SE that I couldn't afford to a kid who just won a lawsuit, and he gave me his 1989 Ford Probe in the deal. One day, I was driving down the highway on a gentle curve in a light rain, and the car spontaneously did a 360 or so and slammed rearward into a guard rail. The rear end was so light, it just let go. Thankfully I hit the guard rail square and only ended up with a scratch on the bumper! Amazing! Traded it in very quickly after that, though, on a 1996 Geo Prizm LSi. Best decision ever. Although, I still kinda like those cars... Especially the newer styling. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
I miss my old Probe. I have a 95 that I put way too much money into back when I was 16/17. The Probe community used to be pretty large and we had a huge event in Hocking Hills every year and the national Myrtle Madness Probe meet in Myrtle Beach. ProbeTalk used to be the place online for the community. Not sure if it even exists anymore. I had over 400k miles on mine before I bent a rod.
@@Tyler-lh2cu I was last there around '01 or '02. Those two events were a big deal, as I remember, though I lived on the opposite end of the country and never went. I remember I had a neighbor who had a white probe manual, and a 1991 mustang 5.0 LX, both were super pristine cars and I remember idolizing him for having the most awesome garage ever. I would still love both of those cars to this day. As a sidebar yours looks sweet brother, my half baked advice, don’t change the paint, make it a survivor probe and let the patina tell the story 🤘🏻
On behalf of 90's sports car fans by myself, thank you for dispelling any apparently costly enthusiasm towards owning one of these Probes! Seriously tho, congrats on getting this thing back on the road.
Its great to see the purple Probe back on the road, at last! I hope you can find a not-too-expensive way to improve the paintwork and show us how you get on with that. In the meantime, just drive it - but not too far, just in case!!
It is awesome to see the Probe GT functional once again. It's such an iconic 90s design. It must be weird to go from driving the latest in high-technology vehicles and then going back in time to the analog Probe GT. I'd venture that it feels more connected to the road and the driver versus a modern car. It's going to look great with a new paint job. If I had the money, I'd make you an offer for it. I just like it that much. Fingers crossed that you don't encounter any more issues with this beauty of a car.
Can't wait to get mine back on the road again. Need to change a valve cover gasket and a alternator. Oh and lifters/headers. My car sounds similar on start up. Don't give up on the probe brother 💪
Good job mate! :) Love this car. Reason why i started to follow your channel :) It's such an underrated car, but it's so much fun to drive. For me it has always been reliable. Just saying ;)
Featuring the Lectric XP 3.0? It's funny we have one of those and a Hemiway Cruiser. Great bikes! If you haven't done a review of the Lectric you should. I love you and think you're so cool! The Probe is a beautiful car! I test drove a red GT back in 93 and it was very futuristic in terms of the body style for it's time. Take care!
Great looking 90's car 🙂 Hope to see the paint fixed, and car staying in original condition, at least for a while. Sounds really nice now with new exhaust! Nice tv ad at the end. Got a driver's license in late 1992, so Probe would've been really cool first car. Actually my driving school had Ford, but it was ordinary 1991-92 Sierra sedan with 2 litre 4-cylinder petrol engine 😁
Bought a '93 Ford Probe GT with a 4 speed stick. Clutch started slipping, distributor died at 63,000 miles, so out of warranty. Liked it somewhat at first, but got rid of it for a 98 Honda Civic LX.
BTW... Ford Probes are actually quite reliable, if properly maintained... The Questionable Garage bought one for cheap a few weeks ago, but it was a 1st gen 2.2 I4 Turbo one. The main "issue" with the Probe is than is FWD, I think... And next step for that car is a paint job, that way it wouldn't look as a junkyard car, and you would be less hesitant about spending money on it. Also, replacing Ford badges with EUNOS ones (with the gold and silver V) would make that car kind of unique.
I feel happy for you that you could save the Probe with a reasonable effort! Hope you have safe and fun tours with it! I can recommend to you to check for oil (should always be on max. and maybe need like 0,5 liter new oil every 6500 miles). Also always check for coolant fluid to be full and with zero air in the system (could cause "hickups" which causes unsteady alterations of rpm). Would love to see how you give this classic a new paintjob. In original boysenberry blue or for example in black with copper rims like this spanish dude did with his Probe: ruclips.net/video/IUneaw4HDZA/видео.html Greetings! Good driving! 🙂
Ethan, The video starts 0:01 with you standing alongside a rock solid Scion fit for another decade of reliable service and a dubious automotive achievement that should have been turned into a washer and dryer ten years ago. I think the way forward is quite obvious. 😉🤣
Well, since I already told you (and you think I've forgotten...ha!) It's MY probe, now that it's running right all it has to do is get on the truck and head on over to New Hampshire!😂 Seriously tho, have you ever plasti-dipped a car? I dipped my subaru race car since it has three different colored body panels and it came out great and all told cost $300 in materials. My Probe had paint issues as well I'm not surprised yours looks like it has leprosy. Congrats on getting it running!
Oh yea! I miss my Rio red '93 probe GT. Bought it in Louisiana with no C.A.R.B. restrictions and drove it to California. Through the desert in Texas I decided to bury the throttle and it did every bit of 140 mph with the tach needle buried at 8,000 rpm. Loved the fuck out of that car and I regret that I traded it on for an eclipse gst. I wish I could find a museum quality probe gt just like the one I had so many years ago. It was very fast and cornered like a roller coaster.
Should look into mazda6 big brake upgrade(no such thing as too good of brakes), and an HEI ignition upgrade. I need to get my 93 pgt back on the road…been 10 years in storage😢
I hope Ford comes out with a New Version of the Probe GT or GTS Rwd or Awd 2.3 MazdaSpeed or Ford 2.3 even 2.7 V6 Ecoboost version with Paddle shifters with a good Suspension and Handling Package.
I would love That to but they will probably do a electric suv with it like with the capri. Maybe by doing like Citroën with the ds creating a new brand from the mustang
glad to see the probe GT driving on the road. they can be reliable, (just have a few distributors with you on the trip LOL). back in the day i drove my 1993 probe GT from VA to FL and back, i remember going 95mph at 5k rpms in 5th gear on the highway. Then i had a 95 that i put a turbo kit on it and was beating every body with it on the streets.
Oh wow! Awesome. Fill the dents and get it wrapped in a similar color rather than paint. Get the suspension checked. Take it to a closed track and stand on it! Or go conservative, repaint, clean and show it in a car show. Either way, have fun and drive it like you stole it!
Hey Man, when the water pump was leaking, was there a lot of coolant coming out? I’ve got a Mazda 626 that has the same engine and its leaking coolant badly, no milky oil, no white smoke and I did a combustion leak test and it checked out well. So all I can imagine is it being the water pump. Would really appreciate any input, thanks!!!
I'll always thought they look like a Ferrari. Kind of. A colleague has red one and is apparently totally nerded out. He has a model of it on his desk. lol.
that's 99.9% of project cars there expensive bottom of the heap examples or lower value cars that are moody needing maintenance and annoying until there not. The Z4 annoys me with a new sensor or vaccum leak every few months but it's fun to road trip in or the 944 witch everything is expensive but it looks great with the headlights up, you want an car get a camry
What do you think I should do with this Ford Probe?
Drive it daily ❤
If you can afford to do it, donate the Probe. If you cannot afford to give it away then sell it. 😉
Windex the glass perhaps 🤔? That driver’s side looks like stained glass in church
LS and K swap it! LS in the front, K24 in the back!
RX7 or Mustang rims. Lowering suspension.

I had one for ten years, did spend a lot of money keeping it going but worth it until I couldn't afford any longer, loved driving that car 👍👍👍

It does look very nice bur I liked the previous model even better.
That thing with fresh purple paint will look sharp! I love it when people give love to unloved cars.
I have a 1994 mazda mx6 with that same engine. I still drive it around.
the mechanic's parking lot looks like his own private Cars-n-Coffee
I know right??
Still have my 96 GT that I built and turbo’d.
Have Exile AutoWorx powder coat you some parts and upgrade to there shifter bushing kit.
Meanwhile my red '95 probe GT needs a head gasket replacement. A new radiator, brakes and a few other things. But I love it still.
Had one just like it…. Loved that car ….
Maybe a full detail and document the process. Maybe somewhere that can do a cut/polish + rattle can clear coat. And then just drive it!
Next project for it, make it a super easy one... replace the worn out wiper blades, front and rear. :D
Glad to see it up and running! It needs to stay that way, it's an awesome rad ride!
Still such a great looking car- they were everywhere back in the early 90's. Great to see you're keeping it on the road.
This car was the reason i joined your channel years back! So glad to see it revisited! I had a 95 GT back in highschool. Yes, it was a headache to work on but man it was a fun ride! Hope to see more of it in the future!
Good to see ya driving the probe
My mom had a 95 growing up and I miss it so much 😭
Her exhaust was ALWAYS falling off being in pa 😂
Wish I could find one I'd buy one so fast

Well - I just acquired exactly the same vehicle - I plan to restore her - rare as hen teeth in the UK now !
I owned a 94’ PGT a very long time ago it’s still one of the best cars I’ve owned 👍

Damn, I guess I am a long time viewer of the channel.
Keep it!! And love it!!
If you want to sell it I'll buy it!!
Tomorrow.
But the time and effort you've put in you should keep it.
I dont know if its because its holiday time or mercury is in retrograde but I got kind of emotional watching this. Im so happy shes running again. I had a 95 also in thia color. I had her 11 years and to this day still is my favorite car Ive ever owned. 💜
I was so sad I thought this car was completely done and no more videos. This is awesome

Love the purple btw
Nice 👍 sounds great paint job next , probes are super fun to drive wish I never sold my 97 pgt been lookin for another ever since
I'm working on a 97 probe red one right now. Me and daughter dragged it out of a field. Sat for 10 years. These cars are fun.
The engine sounds really nice with the new exhaust! Congrats on getting it running. I've always loved your purple Probe!
ProbeTalk used to be the place online for the community. Not sure if it even exists anymore. I had over 400k miles on mine before I bent a rod.
You remember ProbeTalk? 😊 Those were good times with good people!
@@Nobluffbuff I was pretty active back in 05-07 time frame. I have a couple of awards as well from Hocking Hills and Myrtle Madness back then.

👍👍👍👍 Great news. So excited it’s fixed and back on the road. Not many left remember.
Keep improving the Probe. Make it your (semi-regular) driver and dispose of one more 'Project Cars'. ... or two.
Cool

It is awesome to see the Probe GT functional once again. It's such an iconic 90s design. It must be weird to go from driving the latest in high-technology vehicles and then going back in time to the analog Probe GT. I'd venture that it feels more connected to the road and the driver versus a modern car. It's going to look great with a new paint job. If I had the money, I'd make you an offer for it. The Probe is my favorite car you own! I love these cars!
What was causing the rattle then? Timing belt tensioner?
It sounds good, I think juts a polish could work

You should strip it and prep it for paint.
Oh wow!
My mechanic said Hey you've got a Prob!
I'll always thought they look like a Ferrari. Kind of. A colleague has red one and is apparently totally nerded out. He has a model of it on his desk. lol.
Drive it daily...and paint
I would love to see a mazda 323f bg on your channel btw :)
I sold my 323 wagon and miss it terribly. Its in a museum now
I had a 1993 Probe GT 5 speed. Back in the late 90s early 2000's I was part of SCPOC. Southern California Probe Owners club, aka Pro-boners club! LOL
every day i wake up and pray to the god i don’t really believe in for MORE COOL PURPLE CARS 😭
"It made a terrible sound"
>makes sound my last car made for years before trade in
>i thought that was just what engines sounded like
Oops
7:59 Sounds almost like a Ferrari v12 there.
That's exactly what my mechanic said!!!
Looks like a KLZE intake?
Ethan, do you write the music for your videos? Good choices. Love the project updates and the longer think pieces.
Hey there! I have written music for a few vids but not this one. Glad you dig the tunes. :) :) :)
Want to trade for a Mazda Lantis Type R?
Ooooh I do like those. Is it a manual?
Still asking if I can get in contact with you about a Chevy nova 1988 I have
Hey there! Feel free to send a message hello@helloroad.tv :)
that's 99.9% of project cars there expensive bottom of the heap examples or lower value cars that are moody needing maintenance and annoying until there not. The Z4 annoys me with a new sensor or vaccum leak every few months but it's fun to road trip in or the 944 witch everything is expensive but it looks great with the headlights up, you want an car get a camry
Haha, no one decent ever drove a Probe back when! DUUUUDES! Nice to see the xB! I just changed out the spark plugs on mine yesterday :).
What is that Kei car doing next to this probe?
Haha not exactly a kei car!
I removed the resonator on my Ford Probe and the drone was intense. Let me know if you have the same issue.
It doesn't seem like it drones to me. Though the muffler does have a bit of a buzzy sound at WOT which isn't the greatest!
I loved my probe but at 170 thousand miles it just kept costing lots of money.
that's pretty much any interesting car if you want something that just works go buy an EV for shorter ranges and a corolla
I bet it was still cheaper than buying a newer car with payments.
