I'm simply inspired to practice. I'm 65, been playing 58 years, played music by Chick, Jan Hammer, Oscar Peterson, and got bored. Then these two come along, and now I don't have enough life left.

@@sanjayyethipathi ha ha ha. Love it. I used to wind people up on being introduced to new folks by saying that in my home city, I'm known as Mr 'Music'. They'd ask my name....I'd reply "Dave Music". It always got a laugh.
I started getting them in my recommendations after ordering a Focusrite Scarlett, which they use. I kind of feel like sending it back, like WTF I'm 48 and can't play so cleanly...
@@ChildovGhad Everyone uses a Scarlett lol. They're both legitimate former child prodigies and current virtuosos. Don't feel bad that you can't play like them lol.

So jd beck is 16/17 I don't know and i assume Domi is around the same age. At 21 I can't find more than a couple musicians near me that like what I like, so apart from how advanced they are for their age I find it incredible that those two found each other and connect so perfectly musically
I thought so, too. How did that even happen. Also, solidarity in not knowing anyone locally who likes what you like. It's frustrating when you want to jam.

Domi went to berklee at like 16 or 17. I think shes 19 or 20 now. She was on my floor in the dorms lol. I could always hear her shedding cory henry solos.

Is it me or is their music becoming more interesting? DOMI seems to be getting a greater grasp of harmonics and themes, and I think JD Beck's drumming here is more interesting than his usual jungle frenzy. More musical. Really like where this is going.

the way they communicate with just their eyes and expressions while they play is incredible. they have their own silent language while performing.

Three minutes and twenty-two seconds and I need to stop the video five or six times just to catch my breath as I hang on for dear life. At the moment, they're just two absurdly talented kids goofing around. It’s thrilling to think about their future and where they will take music.

Outstanding musicianship, technical ability and musicality, not to mention the musical connection between the two of them! It’s not just two great musicians playing together, it’s utter musical interconnection at its finest. Wow.

Just also have to shout out to the recording engineering here! 1:55 drum overheads bird-eye view (and sound of the drumset) with the stereo-pair of COLES ribbon mics (and what could be another stereo ribbon up there too?). Gives all the warmth and impact of the 'shape' of the sounds as only ribbons can.
Super fat sound on the bass-drum with the one seen in Abby Road recordings of The Beatles (maybe not a ribbon but a great dynamic mic. I use RCA 44's there on the kick but away from the hole and air blasts, super fat bottom that way.)
AKG C34 as center overhead, (stereo x-y) and D12/U47 on the kickdrum. /Cheers
@@JohanEckerblad Thanks so much for filling me in Johan! Did you sweeten with the C34 or with the Coles or the other way around or? Which are your favorite ribbon mics/preamps?
@@TiqueO6 As I remember it, the C34 is the main OH in the mix, super clear without being "too bright". The Coles...a different animal, but a great companion to the C34, playing the role as a soft, wide OH/room pair.
Pres used in the session are mainly LakePeople F366 on the drums, which is proper stuff to me.
My own go-to ribbon mic couldn't make it for this particular session, Samar VL373A, but is used on some other Nord sessions before this one.

I Love Jazz but these 2 breathe some fresh air into the genre… they play in BeastMode to me at all times …I wish I knew someone like a band mate or music buddy I can just chill and talk all things considered but it’s just me… these 2 have inspired me added some new Fire to get me going we’ve just begun to see what these 2 can do 😊
