Excellent video! Btw, for the Quetzalcoatl video, if you’re going to mention Cortez and that highly controversial legend about him being mistaken for Quetzalcoatl, you might want to include Fate’s take on it, where the Aztecs actually didn’t believe that Cortez was Quetzalcoatl but Moctezuma decided to take advantage of the situation anyway to justify his desire to get rid of human sacrifice…which became the downfall of the Aztecs.

If I'm not mistaken, the Noble Phantasm of Tez also has a connection with his control over the territory of Mictlampa, the paradise of rest, and the connection between Xibalba and Mitlan may lie in the fact that Mayan mythology was a great inspiration for later Astec mythology.
Tez and Tlaloc are the only servant has an accurate design and characterization from their myth. As for Quetz/kulkulan and Jaguar Man. i'm interested to know about those 3. Yeah Jaguar man is one of Tez followers.
@@CrazyYurie well i can't wait also im glad you went into detail about his 1st np cause I never understood why the first np is still called fist sun xibalba despite looking like it had nothing to do with the sun
The link between First Hassan and Tez isn't just the mountains but it is more about the mountain in the underworld where they both reside with Old Man acting basically as the reaper killing those that have made they're time (with the Azrael NP and all that) and Tez beeing the giant Jaguar who killed the giant and also the Jaguar in the underworld eating the dead during the exode in it. From my interpretation Grand Assassin seems more a class about how much close to Death itself you can be rather about wether you can kill one guy or entire civilisation (other example that would represent it well would be King Emma or Thanatos would probably be able to go for that Grand Assassin title) once again for that part apart the Grand itself is an interpretation to Tez beeing able to do whatever he want. Notably Tez np in asc3 where he bring back the sun and the monster to kill everything his mentionned to make him use more of the underworld part of him rather than any other because that first sun with it's world are dead.
He is the equivalent of an action replay hacked Pokémon. The evidence: all assassin class servants are so much less than in comparison to King Hassan that they could never replace him after he gave up his position as Grand Assassin naturally. And the only to assassin class servants who would even be considered as Would-Be candidates are Jack the Ripper and Semiramis. I only extended to Semiramis on account of how she is labeled Humanity's first poisoner
Something I didn't understand about Tez was the skull candy he gave to protagonist in the start of LB7. When he meets protagonist in Mexico City he was disappointed to find he didn't have it anymore.
26:26 We had this conversation during your stream of RDR, I mentioned that he was like Khorne & you said he was more like Tzeentch, so glad you brought this back up. Great video as always😂👍
Spolier for FGO JP. . . . . . .. . . . . . . Considering that Zahhak (also known as Azi Dahaka) who is a component of Rasputin as a Pseudo Servant was recently revealed as a Lancer in the "My Little Dragon" event, who is to say that Huitzilopochtli will not appear as a separate servant.
Tezcatlipoca really made me appreciate the CE that has pierce invincibility on it as it made that one mechanic in his boss fight much less frustrating. Kriemhild also paid off admittedly.
How would I rate Yurie's Tez video? Well given the effort he put into combing through the bits and pieces of a lost culture in order to paint such a vivid picture of a charismatic and terrifying deity, I would give this video an S rating💯 Fantastic work Yurie: God Bless🤩😇✝️
I was so curious of Fate depicting culture from my country, since fate tends to exaggeratte things a lot, but my god did they do their research!! I'm so happy with mictlan in general, and I'm hoping you'd do more videos about Kukulkan and Tenochtitlan too!!
If the assassin class could also be descibed as "a class efficient in the art of people dying" and a berzerker as "those who cause great destruction" i could understand a death and chaos god that trick and causes conflict would be the epitome of both. But the descriptions are just my interpretations of the core value of the class.
Struck a Goldmine ~ nc to see some servant lore and fate related stuff given that I left the community years ago, brings the old memories. Cheers mate ~ subbed
I found it really natural that Tezcatlipoca was an Assassin since he is so closely related to death, and also a berserker, since he's related to chaos, personally. All three of them make sense to me
RUclips just recommend to me this video and I must say, I'm very impressed! Everything is very well researched and very well explained! P.s. I was already sure I'd be subscribing to your channel halfway through the video, but when I saw you referencing Umineko with the great witch of miracles Bernkastel, I had to pause and immediately subscribe hahahah 💜 Keep the good work up! I know I'm gonna have lots of fun and will get to know loads of new things about history, mythology and other cultures by watching your past and future videos!
I really love Aztec mythology, and how what seems like wanton violence and bloodshed was based in quite deep philosophy and symbology. It doesn't change the fact that their culture was founded upon constant cruelty. I sometimes wish that the mesoamerican cultures hadn't been destroyed, rather they just changed to become less gruesome, it was truly a loss for mankind
I think the lack of North American/South American Servants in Fate is due to the lack of strong magic in the continents in universe. However, I do wish we got more. Separating George Washington from Edison would be an instant roll for me, for instance.
@@orga7777 George is British, not even a native from the American Continent. Most of the natives and their history were wipe clean thanks to a certain president.
Black on North, White on West, Red on East, Blue on South... It is almost Genbu, Byakko, Seiryuu and Suzaku, only Blue and Red are inverted (Suzaku is South, Seiryuu is East)
6:00 one thing I do wish was different about his design was I wish his skin was more clearly yellow, cuz sicnce all the colours in his design have that ‘washed out’ kinda vibe, I would kinda just assume he’s a white guy if I didn’t know his skin was ment to look yellow.
What a really good video, practically a professional documentary on the mythological part as well as valid criticisms of his characterization in the game... but when I got to 31:29 it broke me
My new big brother in law is perfect minus the art of his ascensions, i have no idea why the artist washed out the colour so hard his character models are fantastic such a waste. But i think his portrayal is truly Nasu's greatest example of character writing, hes the perfect god of chaos
given time to think, i am starting to believe a reason he is a grand assassin and grand berserker even without presence concealment or madness enhancement is do to his status as a war god. As a god of war, or driver/spirit of war, he is able to create mass death by the proxies of human fighter, and upping the bloodshed by stealing their rationale, ie impose madness enhancement onto humans to keep battles and wars going. So while King Hassan is a grand assassin too, his style is more of being the personation of the grim reaper/angel of death, the inevitable meeting everyone must meet at some point in their lives. And for Tezcatlipoca, he's not the final moment (death), but the guide to it.
Simple note Tez is the troublemaker that he is God in fact. He really said he just built different way. I'm excited video about Huitzilopochtli that a god that was misunderstood by Aztec people that considered Huit as bloodlust of war and sacrifice. I think that why Tez is god of war and sacrifice because he is the conflict and Huit was misunderstood plus Huit called as Protector of the Aztec tribe and also when Warrior undead, they become reborn as a hummingbird for a peaceful next life. It do said Huit rival Tez power scale. Also do I agree about 16:54 it is crime to destroy culture because there are many things is still undiscovered even now about Aztec mythology. It worse the Spanish try to change Huit's story to Christianity to fit the Spanish "believe".
Small correction: I'm pretty sure the giants that appear in tezcatlipoca's 3rd ascension np are supposed to be the giants that lived during nahui ocelotl, not the jaguars that wiped them out. We see the giants disintegrate from a wave emitted by the mirror/sun, which is probably supposed to be a way or represent the jaguars without having to animate a swarm of them Also, regarding the toxcatl ritual: your wording may unintentionally imply that the young man just played the part of tezcatlipoca. Rather, he was quite literally viewed as becoming an embodiment of the teotl through a process called teixiptla. He would recieve tezcatlipoca's divine essence within him and become him
I would like to correct you on something. No, Tezcatlipoca does NOT have yellow skin, thats yellow body paint. He's not the only one, you can see that Xipe Totec and Huitzilopochtli also have it.
@CrazyYurie I am going to assume that you also know about Xipe Totec's rituals involving the flaying of sacrificial victims. Well here's a fun fact: The Aztecs used yellow body paint to... well, paint the flayed skins of the victims before anyone actually put them on. Because the skin is supposed to represent maize, and maize normally tends to be yellow.
I really enjoyed this video and playing the servant! However, is Tezcatlipoca really like Khorn and Tzeentch, or is he more like Gork and Mork? Both are either brutally cunning or cunningly brutal, and their followers are all built for war.
I find funny how you describe Tezca as an "arms dealer" when we, here in Mexico, we just call him a "narco lider"; a cartel leader. That, combined with all his "jaguar warriors" armed with rifles and machetes is just a very... modern Mexican depiction of a cartel.
This guy is soooo cool 😎 and i like so much mythologie of this part of the world (sorry for my english 😅) Excellent video i agree to the fact "cultural destruction its a crime"
@CrazyYurie No, I'm wrong. Tenochtitlan has the spirit origin of both Tlaloc and Blue Tezcatlipoca from proper human history, while the King of Dinosaurs is the Blue Tezcatlipoca from the Lostbelt history. So you were probably right, and I didn't take the Lostbelt into consideration.
Regarding Berserkers. There seems to be a trend of, I guess you can call, “natural” Berserkers having much lower ranks of Madness Enhancement. Notably Beowulf having the single lowest rank in the entire game. Likely, Tez’s very own nature is “berserk” so he doesn’t have Madness Enhancement at all
Tez as an Assassin is basically a sane Eversor. Which is not really surprising. Besides, there those in the assassin class that are in there because their Martial Artists and can’t be a berserker nor caster.
Yurie: Why is Tez an assassin? Tez: (God of darkness and the unseen the most powerful Aztec god associated with death) bruh And that is why I think Tez should be an A+ alongside Charlotte Gawain and Kiyohime
Also, i have a question: Isn't it's states that a grand servant can not be a god, so how is he one sure romulus becomes a god, but he was born human tez was always a good and he has killed humanity before so how is he a grand when he is a god and doesn't have a good relationship with humans
While I loved Tez in LB 7, I still find myself liking Grandpa Hassan more as he has had more story appearances as well as saving my butt in some tough boss fights.
Nah, in the segment of cultural destruction, let me tell you, if theres any kind of cultural heritage left is because of the Spanish, as seen in several documents of the age Leyes de burgos and leyes de indias, they weren't forced to convert as well. In fact the languages of the natives had the privilege of being ones of the first to get a dictionary. This segment is only accurate to the black legend the french and English spread during that time. Good vid regardless 15:53

Hello there, first time viewer, got a random recommendation. I liked the way you explained Tezca and all the confusing storyline about him in the mythos. But I find the point of the Spanish conquest confusing. The Spanish are the reason why today we have access to those ancient texts in the first place. The Nahuatl was a predominant language so the Spanish needed natives who could talk both languages, so destroying culture was not in the agenda. The majority of the colonial period the culture was preserved, the natives were more and the Spanish couldn't manage all cities so the alliance between local tribes was the cornerstone of Colonial management. So saying destroying was a little too much. That's the only thing I find weird but a good video nevertheless.(Ps: even saying colonial here is a big stretch, my apologies for that, greetings from Chile)
@@CrazyYurie The Mayas had already dispersed by the time Cortez entered Tenochtitlan. The tribes in the Yucatan peninsula did not speak "common Maya", each tribe had its own way of speaking, like the Mexica tribes surrounding Tenochtitlan, so the loss of many texts was inevitable on the part of the Spanish religious orders. At the same time, not all tribes were friendly to each other, some formed alliances with the Spanish in order to conquer enemy tribes and keep their lands under the viceregal system. However, I do point out that Diego de Landa, a Spanish missionary, hunted down and burned several idols and codex related to different Mayan rituals, because syncretistic sects carried out human sacrifices using children from the city of Mani itself and from surrounding tribes. However, he was the pioneer in the cultural union of the Mayans and the Spanish with his book "Relación de las cosas de Yucatán", an ecclesiastical manual for Spanish missionaries where he explained the life of the Mayan population, their beliefs and a possible hieroglyphic translation of the language. This manual was possibly born from his regret for the burning of codex, idols and the torture he caused in Mani.
This might be a hot take, but as much work as they put into him, they should've hired another artist, it gives me nightmares man, I get it's subjective but i can't pull him and look at that all the time.
I usually don't comment but i feel like doing it this one time to ask. Was I the only one who started this LB with not liking Tez and liking Kuku then by then end having it flipped and not liking Kuku But liking Tez. Maybe it was his final ending monologue ( or the final explanation of his portion of the underworld, or maybe how you find out about who Izcalli really is... there's a lot i could add here TBH LOL ), he just felt really well written. With Kuku i was like, oh this character is fun. Then to see everything she does in the later half just going "Wow really?" and just feeling like she wasn't as well written as Tez, Izcalli, Tlaloc, Grandpa Tepeu and Daybit ( Don't get me started on Daybit and how i was hyped as hell for him and was unbelievably satisfied with getting his whole lore). Maybe the flipping of who you liked was purposefully since it kind of happens in every LB ( especially LB 6). IDK that was just my feeling. ( I wrote this first without watching the video so don't crucify me)
Tez was one of the two things that really kept me interested in LB7 (which i generally disliked). He feels extremly strongly like a version of the character he should embody, thrown in a modern setting, which i consider more accurate, since if you were in a servants position, you probably would pick up modern gear (other example of this would be tell). While i agree that his art style is weird, the fact that it kinda caused a splitt in the fandom is kinda holarious in a meta way. Also the stories i know tez for in mythology make him sound less, like a chaotic arbiter and more like a divine prankster with a penchant for genocide, but if i learned anything about mythology at this point is that consistent retellings are rarely thing. I am kinda excited to see the rest of the aztect crew now
So im not gonna actually watch the episdoe cuase i havent even cleared lb1 yet and dont want story spoilers just here to boost the algorithm and leave a like will come back whbe i do reach this though in like a year and a half lol
Well, in terms of his 2nd ascension outfit, i would say it's not to bad. Tez is depicted with black skin since it would be covered in black ash, and for the impersonator, they would paint them in black for the toxcatl festival, so interpretating it as a black body suit works. Also it doubles as the jaguar skins that he would sometimes be depicted in. Plus its the only design where he as a weird leg. Just the mask could be better. His 3rd on the other hand is pretty bad. Like the headress is interesting, but overall, it looks pretty bad. Like it looks like those aztec dancers you'll see in mexico but very poorly done.
One of my least favourite Servants to date- between his frankly unappealing artstyle, how they screwed up Grand Servants lore for him even though it doesn't actually matter one bit in the story, and also his character in LB7 that I know that at least a lot of people liked, but that I really didn't see the appeal of. None of this has a bearing on his historical accuracy though.

It is very likely to come up.
@@CrazyYurie
It’s somewhere in LB 7 part 1. Rasputin was talking about it, if I recall correctly.
@@CrazyYurie
Found it. It’s in Section 9. I just want to highlight this difference because earlier, they also discussed the legend and this part wasn’t mentioned then.
@@CrazyYurieIt would be interesting if you address the topic of the Black Legend and the White Legend (also called Pink Leyend) in the video.
@ I may not have time for everything. Two-servant videos are already big. x_x
It's incredibly hilarious that Quetz and Tez are both rivals and literally the exact same person, just different aspects of each other.
They're not actually the same person - they're siblings. It's just the servant Tez can be any of his four, though mainly acts as Black.
Yayauhqui, Tezcatlipoca...
Btw your pronounciation is the best I've heard on youtube. Kudos!
The last battle BGM kills this video.(edit: killing it in a good way, i need to clarify)
Love the LB7 ost so much.
My friend…Tenochtitlan was not a mecha-girl historically.
@kziila0244 what do you mean Mexico city can't transform into a Mecha?
@kziila0244 So Does Tez and his bone mech. I'm referring to Tlaloc First ascension which does resemble of Tlaloc while other like Quezt isn't.
Jaguar Man is just a joke and borderline insult lol
And in some versions of the 5 suns myth first sun in Aztec myth, the humanoids were giants
Correct, which is also why the animals Tez summons in his NP are similarly large. :D
Bro this video was awesome I cannot wait for your Tenochtitlan video
That one is going to be A LOT, but it has very high potential!
I don't know, man. Post Buff Kama can probably do it now. lol
Tez was fantasic right from the beginning to the end of LB7, easily one of the most interesting character in this part
Something I didn't understand about Tez was the skull candy he gave to protagonist in the start of LB7. When he meets protagonist in Mexico City he was disappointed to find he didn't have it anymore.
Ack... I forgot about that.
The protagonist was in a trial. When Tezcatlipoca saw that he no longer had it, he implied that the protagonist was not interested in the trial.
26:26 We had this conversation during your stream of RDR, I mentioned that he was like Khorne & you said he was more like Tzeentch, so glad you brought this back up. Great video as always😂👍
I had planned to! :D
Tez's awesome man! I was only neutral to his design but after lb7, I'm a WOOOOO enjoyer through and through! Nice vid, very cool!

Same for Louhi.
Tezcatlipoca really made me appreciate the CE that has pierce invincibility on it as it made that one mechanic in his boss fight much less frustrating. Kriemhild also paid off admittedly.
I also used Kriemhild. Mine is NP5 and grailed to 100, so she utterly demolished Tez... until she got stunned and I had to have Herc finish it. x_x
Maou Nobu hard counters him. Tez is a Ruler class, has divinity, and is sky attribute.
Fantastic video. WOOOOOOOOOOOO! Tez was great in LB7.
I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Tez has the highest kill count out of all the servants we've been able to summon
How would I rate Yurie's Tez video?
Well given the effort he put into combing through the bits and pieces of a lost culture in order to paint such a vivid picture of a charismatic and terrifying deity, I would give this video an S rating💯
Fantastic work Yurie: God Bless🤩😇✝️
Thanks! :D
Also, the Mayans had a hot chocolate drink that now I forget the name, só that's also a nice info for the valentines CE.
amazing video, I love tez's them in video analysis
Struck a Goldmine ~ nc to see some servant lore and fate related stuff given that I left the community years ago, brings the old memories.
Cheers mate ~ subbed
I found it really natural that Tezcatlipoca was an Assassin since he is so closely related to death, and also a berserker, since he's related to chaos, personally. All three of them make sense to me
RUclips just recommend to me this video and I must say, I'm very impressed! Everything is very well researched and very well explained!
P.s.
I was already sure I'd be subscribing to your channel halfway through the video, but when I saw you referencing Umineko with the great witch of miracles Bernkastel, I had to pause and immediately subscribe hahahah 💜
Keep the good work up! I know I'm gonna have lots of fun and will get to know loads of new things about history, mythology and other cultures by watching your past and future videos!
Thank you! Also yes, I am a fan of Umineko. This is the second time I've referenced her in a video - the first being in Ashiya Douman's.
I was waiting for this video ❤
I really love Aztec mythology, and how what seems like wanton violence and bloodshed was based in quite deep philosophy and symbology. It doesn't change the fact that their culture was founded upon constant cruelty. I sometimes wish that the mesoamerican cultures hadn't been destroyed, rather they just changed to become less gruesome, it was truly a loss for mankind
Tezcatlipoca video! Finally WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
FGO needs more Native American servants (if Aztecs count as Native). They could probably add Crazy Horse as a rider.
I mean, the Aztecs are native to the Americas...
I think the lack of North American/South American Servants in Fate is due to the lack of strong magic in the continents in universe. However, I do wish we got more. Separating George Washington from Edison would be an instant roll for me, for instance.
@ IIRC, South America still has ZERO servants. Even Australia has that Wandjina lady.
@@orga7777 George is British, not even a native from the American Continent. Most of the natives and their history were wipe clean thanks to a certain president.
Hopefully in the future Type-Moon will also delve deeper into Southeastasian and native Australian folklore also
Black on North, White on West, Red on East, Blue on South... It is almost Genbu, Byakko, Seiryuu and Suzaku, only Blue and Red are inverted (Suzaku is South, Seiryuu is East)

Finally, a Tez video

Great video, really well researched
I'm looking forward to the rest of the videos featuring the new Mesoamerican Servants
Finally, my favorite servant yet ❤
6:00 one thing I do wish was different about his design was I wish his skin was more clearly yellow, cuz sicnce all the colours in his design have that ‘washed out’ kinda vibe, I would kinda just assume he’s a white guy if I didn’t know his skin was ment to look yellow.
What a really good video, practically a professional documentary on the mythological part as well as valid criticisms of his characterization in the game... but when I got to 31:29 it broke me
Thank you! :D
Awesome video
My new big brother in law is perfect minus the art of his ascensions, i have no idea why the artist washed out the colour so hard his character models are fantastic such a waste.
But i think his portrayal is truly Nasu's greatest example of character writing, hes the perfect god of chaos
the artstyle is divisive but I honestly dig the character design / direction.
Tezcatlipoca is one of my most favorite servant in the game and boy does he costly(790sq for 1 copy)
Hell yeah, Camazotz is next!
given time to think, i am starting to believe a reason he is a grand assassin and grand berserker even without presence concealment or madness enhancement is do to his status as a war god.
I wanna watch this video now
Simple note Tez is the troublemaker that he is God in fact.
I am actually surprise that actually got him in the first multi
Un grande mi tio teza
Small correction: I'm pretty sure the giants that appear in tezcatlipoca's 3rd ascension np are supposed to be the giants that lived during nahui ocelotl, not the jaguars that wiped them out. We see the giants disintegrate from a wave emitted by the mirror/sun, which is probably supposed to be a way or represent the jaguars without having to animate a swarm of them
Also, regarding the toxcatl ritual: your wording may unintentionally imply that the young man just played the part of tezcatlipoca. Rather, he was quite literally viewed as becoming an embodiment of the teotl through a process called teixiptla. He would recieve tezcatlipoca's divine essence within him and become him
I'm pretty sure I say that the man was being treated as if he was the real Tez.
weird that Yurie didn't mention lancer as a possible class for Tez since he's almost always depicted with a spear in aztec art
I forgot. x_x
@@CrazyYurie ...you had to have looked at dozens of aztec images depicting Tez, & you forgot that he was holding a spear in most of them
WOOOOO (man I love this dude I’m so sad I didn’t get him)
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO jumpscare at the end lmao
love tez third asc NP
I would like to correct you on something.
No, Tezcatlipoca does NOT have yellow skin, thats yellow body paint.
He's not the only one, you can see that Xipe Totec and Huitzilopochtli also have it.
x_x
@CrazyYurie
I am going to assume that you also know about Xipe Totec's rituals involving the flaying of sacrificial victims.
Well here's a fun fact:
The Aztecs used yellow body paint to... well, paint the flayed skins of the victims before anyone actually put them on.
Because the skin is supposed to represent maize, and maize normally tends to be yellow.
great video! he's my favorite aztec god! :D ruler santa tez for 2025?
He is probably assassin purely to nerf him, else he would have been broken both gameplay wise and lore wise.
Oh fun Bat-man is next
Oh I remember this guy from OSP
I really enjoyed this video and playing the servant! However, is Tezcatlipoca really like Khorn and Tzeentch, or is he more like Gork and Mork? Both are either brutally cunning or cunningly brutal, and their followers are all built for war.
I love that guy
I find funny how you describe Tezca as an "arms dealer" when we, here in Mexico, we just call him a "narco lider"; a cartel leader.
That, combined with all his "jaguar warriors" armed with rifles and machetes is just a very... modern Mexican depiction of a cartel.
Quetz is also an aspect of tez
i also think his god role is so perfect write too
I actually call him Tezcalipookie lmao
This guy is soooo cool 😎 and i like so much mythologie of this part of the world (sorry for my english 😅)
Excellent video i agree to the fact "cultural destruction its a crime"
😮
Wasn't the King of Dinosaurs the true Blue Tezcatlipoca and not Tlaloc?
Yes
Tez apear more like A Brazilian druglord
People have the nerve to call natlan the "nation of war" when this exists
Yurie: Why is Tez an assassin?
Tez: (God of darkness and the unseen the most powerful Aztec god associated with death) bruh
And that is why I think Tez should be an A+ alongside Charlotte Gawain and Kiyohime
Honestly? He came really close.
Also, i have a question: Isn't it's states that a grand servant can not be a god, so how is he one sure romulus becomes a god, but he was born human tez was always a good and he has killed humanity before so how is he a grand when he is a god and doesn't have a good relationship with humans
I got a really important question then…..
Is the WOOOOOO accurate?
Prolly not, but it's fun. XD
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
While I loved Tez in LB 7, I still find myself liking Grandpa Hassan more as he has had more story appearances as well as saving my butt in some tough boss fights.
Yo i thought this guy was a berseker and who is the next person idk
Camazotz.

Tez hás a ce on Summer 8
If that's the case, then what happened to all that lost knowledge? What happened to all the things the Maya wrote?

I mean, he is the stuff of nightmares...
Aw okay. Hope you enjoy it someday!
From a design perspective outside of minor lore detail. He’s kinda of mess
I mean, the expressions do change a lot.
We used to dox people on opinions like this 💔
