Is it just me or would pretender Elaine be a great villain for a Lancelot centered story. Pretending to be Guinevere and then using that identity to manipulate berzerker Lancelot. It would also be a great opportunity for Galahad to pop up in the story again
If we go like this, I want an alter ego or pretender artoria for this. This artoria could be an artoria who got holy grail and do her original wish ( replace herself with another person so this person could do a better job about begin king ). I think this would be great story for both of them
That doesn't work. Artoria technically is the dad in that situation, and is, again, in a non-consensual situation. Morgan didn't ask Artoria if she could make a homunculus/clone of Artoria.
@CrazyYurie That's actually my point. Arturia's situation is almost identical to Lancelot's: Both were high ranking KotRT that got basically roofied and raped by a princess and produced a child they had no say in and are half-jokingly referred to as deadbeats despite A. Having no obligation to be fathers to children they didn't consent to and B. Their mothers being as bad or worse parents. The only difference is that Lancelot has a dick and Arturia had a dick. I know the point is that it's kind of sexist to refer to Lancelot as a deadbeat because he got raped. But no one thinks Arturia as a man and the fanbase still pulls this joke as if it's funny too. I don't think it's funny, really gets Lancelot AND ESPECIALLY Arturia's characters wrong. But in a fucked up way- the fanbase is equal oppritunity here.
I think alot of Mash's interactions with Lancelot are a result of Galahad's personality bleeding through. She has hinted that she could feel Galahad's thoughts and emotions throughout the Camelot singularly
We probably shouldn't be surprised at the parallels between them, given the mechanics behind demi/psuedoservants, but their backstories definitely resonate with one another. Galahad was basically abandoned by his parents (Elaine's fault, not Lancelot's), and then raised to be nothing more than a vessel of the faith, eventually becoming a knight in service to others; only then does he begin to get any actual recognition. Mash was just another disposable homonculus until the summoning actually worked, at which point she was raised to be a tool to facilitate post-rayshift summoning; only with the arrival of Romani does anyone begin to treat her as a person. And remember, Mash is about the same age during Arc 1 as Galahad was when he arrived at Camelot and finally met his father. So you've got Galahad's background resentment at Lancelot's absence, difficult to justify by the cold light of day as that may be, and then Mash mapping that onto her own experiences *and* meeting Lancelot "at the correct time". Mash is maturing rapidly during this time, remember how several crypters comment on how she never used to have much personality, but she's still learning just what all these emotions she's been burying all this time are. So it's not all that surprising that she tears into Lancelot over it; she's in an emotionally vulnerable state. And Lancelot, for his part, is visibly hurt by her words.
It's true but she acted similarly with Romani, who has been her father figure for much longer. Hell if you look at early fgo she is sometimes severe with ritsuka or caster da Vinci too although to a lesser degree. She would have less grievances without Galahad feelings seeping through but she does have higher standard for people she likes/who are basically her family
@@CrazyYurie I can understand since I am also a Vietnamese myself.. but I find it kinda rude to put an another language comment in an English video. So basically what he quotes is a very famous-meme "poet" in Vietnamese Fgo community , I will give you a rough translation : "Male like brand-new things, crow like chicks, married Woman had kids.. is very attractive indeed" I don't know if my translation sound weird or not since I am not at a very high level of English... But I think you will find it's very funny if you can understand Vietnamese.
By the way, what’s up with that tree branch that Saber Lancelot pulls out during his Extra attack and Skill animations? Does that have any relation to Arthurian Legend?
I saw the "womanizer" part more like Knight's code of chivalry to act nice and noble in front of women being translated into some passive skills or modern version of it. I mean Knight at the old time would kiss the honorable women's hand as a greeting. Nowaday if you do that you would be judged as flirting. Also the fact that almost every knight show thos behavior strengthen this theory
A few things: - Lancelot obsessive need to attack Artoria wasn't because he wanted to murder her, rather it was because he wished to be punished by her. You see, Lancelot in Fate is by far the most skilled knight of the round including Artoria. She wouldn't actually be able to beat even the Berzerker Lancelot unless he allowed her to win. - On Saber Lancelot's CE, while it does sound like he wants to end himself. He can't end himself by drowning as he'd also have Artoria's Blessing of the Lake, meaning he can't enter the lake in the first place. The way I see it, this was him taking one last time to spend in the fallen Kingdom he spent most his life protecting. This is reinforced by the last line of the CE being "Just a little while" which implys he'll leave eventually. This just seems like him discarding his life as a knight. - Richard the Lionheart won't be in FGO yet, there was a deal made with Strange Fake's writer that we won't get any servants from there 'till it's done. - On For Someone's Glory's ability to disguise Lancelot as someone else, Kirei made a comment about it in Fate/Zero if I recall. He said something about this being a skill befitting someone who betrayed someone. I don't remember exactly what was said though. This could also be seen as him somehow gaining access to Elain's ability to disguise herself as Gwenivere. Still wouldn't make alot of sense though.
For Someone's Glory reflects on Lancelot having disguised himself as several anonymous knights in the past, with performing many outstanding feats, but never giving away his identity
I'd also like to add on to the "For Someone's Glory", because a Command Seal was used by Kariya for him to become Iskander and thus boosts the previously executed abilities pasts their limits iirc
Which version of the legend of king Arthur? I don't know why I have such disdain for self inserts into an already existing franchise. Yes Lancelot is a french self insert into the legend that had already existed for centuries prior.
@@kristianschuff1723 Well knowing how Fate works, it was most likely a mega hybrid of many different legends. Inserts aren't that uncommon, just look at Sasaki Kojirō for example.
I remember he did it too when he was once captured, escaping for a day and disguising himself by wearing someone else's ruddy armor to participate to fight. At this point, I'm waiting to see a Pretender class Lancelot coming into the game
I never knew Lancelot had that relationship with Guinevere just because Richard the lionheart's sister wanted it. It's pretty funny that the fall of Camelot happened because of the sister of the biggest Arthur fan.
I’m not an expert on this subject but i heard that the fall of camelot was an event that was referenced in the earliest known arthurian legend so this was just the reason that was given for it happening (don’t quote me on this)
@@kristianschuff1723 Lancelot was a knight of the round table even before Chretiens de Troyes talks about him. It's really only the romance with Guenievre that de Troyes brought to the legends
@@aphdisket3154 the legend of king Arthur was first written in 824. The first one to mention Lancelot was the chretiens de troy in the late 12th century by a french poet.
@@kristianschuff1723 I've always thought it was Tristan that was invented by Chretien de Troyes, but I might be wrong. I never really was interested in the very first legends of the Round Table so I can't be sure of who was invented by Chretien or not
Yeah its more a issue with Galahad and Mash and not Lancelot himself. Heck he TRIES...at...times in wary questionoble ways, to be a father fore Mash so he certenly is NOT a deadbeat
Regarding Galahad, I have only one thing to say to him, "know your place, child born of rXXe" He has no place and moral ground to accuse Lancelot. Galahad of FGO is really the sum of poster child of the WORST of Christians' "holier than thou" hypocrisy
@@neptuneplaneptune3367 actually their is an in universe explanation. Artoria's Shield is called Prydwen and it has the ability to change between the shape of a Shield and a Boat, so basically the Surfboard form is kind of an in-between form
I think Knight of Owner also far more heavily references Le Morte d'Arthur, when Lancelot had to fight Phelot with a branch, eventually killing him with his own sword, which is why we see Lancelot summon a branch in some of his animations
Most of the characterization flaws come from OTHER characters misunderstanding Lancelot's behaviour in-universe rather than Lancelot himself. For example, the womanizer joke is more "everyone calls him and sees him as a womanizer", while Lancelot 99% of the time claims and behaves like the opposite. The other 1% being dubious writing (summer) and the misunderstanding applied to a same-face (the murder mystery event). Regarding Berserker, the raging rampage against Artoria is probably more fault of the Mad Enhancement skill rather than something naturally applied to his regret in all instances. The source of those feelings are there but how they're applied varies in each class.
It's not a misunderstanding. He does have those aspects. The fact he does have those does not mean he is not more than that. Even in Camelot, which is our introduction to his saber self, he does admit part of why he spared caster da Vinci is that she is a beautiful woman. This does not change the fact that he also was already conflicted with helping the lion king and had been harboring some refugees. Those two facts can coexist, especially when it took his son/daughter to finally push him over the edge and join our side His attitude as a berserker is madness enhancement at work, but people who know him all relate that mode of being to how they personally seen him(Gareth and Gawain in particular specifically recall the rescue of Guinevere, and Gareth dying as a result) which happened when he was alive. They are not imagining those traits, at worst they are exaggerating them, but they are real part of him. It doesn't make him a worthless, or only those things.
@@namoma4922 Saying women are beautiful doesn't mean he's trying to flirt with them. In fact, the whole Moriarty ploy in summer had women trying to flirt... *With Tristan*, while Lancelot was unaffected. For him they needed to use Gareth's death.
lancelot does not belong to the masculine imagination, lancelot belongs to the feminine imagination of the ideal man who will destroy everything for his beloved
It's also funny how the Knight of Owner section had such a wild story I didn't know about but the one mostly used as a direct inspiration (Lancelot fighting with a tree branch) wasn't even mentioned.
There’s another a story of Lancelot who is a master of all weapons. Lancelot was riding in the wood when he saw a group of bandits tormenting a village girl. Lancelot challenged the bandits to a duel. Lancelot chooses a rotten stick. The bandit chooses his sword. Guess who won that duel.
The funniest part of Lancelot for me is that he wasn't even apart of the original Le Mort De Arthur, he first appeared years later with one of the earliest being "Lancelot, Knight of the Cart". It wasn't until the French retellings of the legends where he became more and more prevalent and even took some of Mordred's role in the story like his relationship with the Queen(Lancelot already had an interest on her but originally it was Mordred who had that role).
Hes the OG OC You can actually track the changing opinions of the French court with how he is written The early French versions Vilify Arthur as a bad husband and glorify Lancelots actions But then in later versions, The French completely vilify him, Arthur becomes more sympathetic , Lancelots actions are seen as Betrayal. Its very interesting
@@mk_gamíng0609 I've read most novels of the Round Table from Chretiens de Troyes (I still have to read Percival's one), and so far Arthur was described as a generous and appreciable king. Which/whose works are you referring to?
I disagree with the suicidal part of Lancelots bond CE. I dont have my version of Legends of King Arthur with me currently but in some versions of the legend, Lancelot doesnt live to become a monk. Instead, if you go with the version of the legend where Guenivere DIES with Arthur in the fall of Camelot; Lancelot starves himself to death out of guilt for the fall of Camelot.
My best guess why Lancelot is a womanizer might be to try and get his mind away from Guinevere. He knows the chances of her being a Servant are wary low, let alone her ever being summoned, and his relationship with her caused nothing but issues. So he forces himself to act as a womanizer maybe to get his mind off of her. But thats just headcanon. As fore Mash calling him a deadbeat dad, I write that off as her utterly misunderstanding the legend, maybe having read a faulty version of it. Ore maybe hes a deadbeat because at the end he was majorly responsible fore Camelots downfall but either way knowing the full context...fuck I REALY hate that joke now
Knight of Owner came from the legend where Lancelot used a tree branch/stick to fend off and defeat an enemy attack. Whether it was a giant, a group of bandits/knights, or the renowned knight Phelot. Lancelot had been ambushed when he was out bathing in a lake, and thus did not have his sword with him. For Someone's Glory came from numerous legends where Lancelot would disguise himself as an anonymous knight whose identity was unknown to everyone, Lancelot took advantage of that by appearing randomly in King Arthur's court, performing amazing feats, and then fucking off while everyone was trying to figure out who he was Lancelot misuses Arondight's sword beam function because he instead chose to focus on Arondight's indestructible nature, hence why Arondight Overload became a thing. He intentionally continues to charge the sword's energy beam until he hits a target with it, unleashing all the stored energy into the blow. The magical energy that's stored and released covers the size of a lake, having the power of an Anti-Army. Lancelot is literally using an Anti-Army caliber attack on a single target to annihilate them. When used PROPERLY, Arondight's energy blast is extremely similar to Balmung's blast, a huge and powerful wave-like blast Lancelot was not made powerful because of the blessings he received from the Lady of the Lake, his foster mother, Lancelot was born a prodigy who was naturally extremely skilled in combat. According to Erice Utsumi's My Room line for Lancelot, he was a monster born with immense natural skill, who then honed his abilities even more by fighting in the harshest of battlefields There are several versions of Lancelot's battle with Gawain. Some of them where he stalled out Gawain from noon to dusk before swiftly defeating the Knight of the Sun, others where Lancelot outright defeated Gawain regardless of the sun's power boost. Tristan is the only other Knight of the Round Table to have defeated sun-boosted Gawain Even including Galahad, Lancelot is still regarded as the strongest of the Round Table, with competency and skill that outright surpasses King Arthur. Galahad is regarded as the "greatest" of the knights, but it does not necessarily mean that he was the strongest. Yes Galahad beat Lancelot in a duel when he first arrived in Camelot, but it doesn't mean that he was always going to beat the Knight of the Lake every time they fought. Galahad was the greatest and the perfect knight due to his extremely powerful will and his morals Yeah Lancelot was never actually a womanizer. He was always the one being chased by women, and Lancelot would always make it known that he only ever loved one woman Lancelot is at his strongest as a Saber. While Berserker has Mad Enhancement making his physical abilities stronger, he notably lacks many abilities that his Saber counterpart has access to, including several blessings that would make him even stronger, as well as lacking the focus to take full advantage of his skills. Knight of the Lake is an ability that boosts any of Saber's parameter except Luck, and that ability stacks with Arondight's parameter boosts. Saber Lancelot also has full access to Knight of Owner and For Someone's Glory, being able to use their abilities to their fullest. Not only that, unlike his Berserker form, Saber Lancelot's Knight of Owner and For Someone's Glory does NOT become sealed when he takes out Arondight, and can even use them altogether
In Post-Vulgate Mort Artu Lancelot is to one that killed mordred's sons The story it tells is that after Mordred had been killed and King Arthur had vanished, Mordred’s two sons appeared. Mordred had left them at Winchester when he went to battle King Arthur. They were both good knights. Leading the people of Winchester they begin to overrun the land, finding no-one capable of opposing them. News of this comes to Gaunes where Lancelot and his kinsmen are living. Bohort advises that he, Lionel, and Hector should summon their people and go to Great Britain to oppose Mordred’s two sons. With a host of more than 20,000, they cross the sea to Great Britain. The two sons of Mordred hear of Lancelot’s arrival and prepare to oppose him. They gain the sworn allegiance of most of the noblemen in Logres. Lancelot approaches the army of the two sons in a very bad mood, for he has just learned that Guenevere has died in a convent. The battle lasts until mid-afternoon, at which point, the elder son, Meleon (Mellehen, Melian) personally attacks King Lionel and pierces him with his lance, knocking Lionel down and mortally wounding him. King Bohort, seeing this, and knowing that his brother is mortally wounded, rides toward Meleon with his sword drawn and splits Meleon’s head down to his teeth. Now Lancelot enters the battle, meets Mordred’s younger son whom he recognizes because the younger son is wearing his father’s arms. The son flees, but Lancelot follows and strikes him so strongly on the neck that he severs his head. The men of Winchester now flee to save their lives, pursued by Lancelot and his knights.
You are definitely not the only one to think of the Disney movie when you hear "The Lion King" lol. Btw the "lion king" title is one I'm noticing pop up a lot in fantasy media. Fate, the Kiseki series, Final Fantasy Tactics I think... its an interesting trope. On another note, apparently Lancelot is good at impersonating other people, there's a story where he (very convincingly, apparently) disguised himself as a woman, as part of a prank with Dinadan (btw Type-Moon, give us Dinadan in Fate, and also throw in Lamorak and Galehaut while you're at it :v)
Honestly, I'd never be able to accept an official Nasuverse Galehaut because I always picture the fan-made Moon Lancer Galehaut from the Nat19 Holy Grail War Dnd campaign.
Honestly the deadbeat thing is more on galahd's side, any comedic thing that happens between lancelot and mash, its lancelot trying to gain mash's love and end up embarrasing himself, so even if galahad doesnt see it, lancelot cares, and he cares a lot, he couldnt be a father before but he is trying now, and like every parent some time you do cringe stuff trying to make your kid happy, as for his vond CE I never took it as self termination, but rather a lack of will to continue moving foward, he didnt wanted to think about what comes next, he just wanted for the first time, really put his sword down a bit and rest, for he had nothing left waiting for him anywhere
Finally watched it. Yeah I still love Lancelot in Arthurian Legend 😊 There are indeed a few issues in characterisation yeh...can't argue with that. But as a Fate character I also really like him though.
As I've said before, I try to assess accuracy to the original. It isn't a statement on how good the character is. I gave Oberon a low grade yet think he's awesome, while Galahad got a high grade but... well I think I've made my feelings on him pretty clear. XD
@@CrazyYurie well galahad was introduced when The Church put its hands into the story of the round table. They basically made knight Jesus, except without all the awesome lessons and philosophical concepts Jesus gives out. What I like about the Knights of the round table is that they are each flawed in their own way. Leading to that whole heroic tragedy kind of a story, written throughout millenias by different writers.
I would be very interested in a video on Agravain! I know very little about his depictions in Arthurian myth, but his portrayal in FGO is kind of fascinating, especially certain directions they went with his character, and I'm interested in knowing what influenced those choices for his direction
This made me realize how media gaslighted me into thinking Lancelot is a womanizer, and the Fate Fandom boils him as 'mary sue' and 'NTR knight'. Damn.
you made me re-evaluate Lancelot with this video. I always saw him as an unnecessary part of the Arthurian Cycle, put there only to add romance. But now I understand how much of a tragic character he is, because he is by all means a perfect knight (perfect in a human way, unlike his mary sue son) he just happens to have fallen in love with the wrong woman.
Great video! I genuinely didn't know Galahad was a product of non consesual sex, now I just feel bad for Lancelot. P.D. : If you ever make a video on Quetzalcoatl, my prediction is that you will either give her an F or a D.
I've been thinking about Quetz. Chances are i'll be doing her around the time that LB7 comes out, since I'll already be deep in with characters like Tezcatlipoca and Tlaloc.
@@CrazyYurie Wait till you find out that her Noble Phantasm isn't actually hers and she shouldn't even have it in the first place, lmao. But in all seriousness I'll be looking forward to your video on her, as well as the ones on the other Mesoamerican Servants.
Since we have talked about a Servant who became dirty and has problems relating to Women... How Lore Accurate is FGO's Rama? Another Sevant who got dirty and has problems related to Women.
Thx to make this video. Imo he is one of the most misunderstood character in Fate, even by the devs. He is technically a r*pe victim, yet potrayed in FGO as womanizer. I hope summer 8 did justice to his character, but i can't read JP (if anyone can & read it, pls spoile me). Also combat wise, I really like he is in modern term is pretty much "Super Soldier". The ability to disguise to any person while having the ability to manipulate his own stat (even luck) & turn any object into useable pseudo np is brokenly versatile to adapt to many situation. In war, he will easily infiltrate enemy defense line & eat the whole army like breakfast. Again he deserve better, even in Camelot he has the chance to redeem his character but it was written in unsatisfying ending. Also in Fate his relationship with Guinevere is fellow Artoria simps. It's only because Guinevere romantically frustated with Artoria (they both aren't gay) it's just didn't work and love grow between fellow simp. If not for the kingdom & artoria strict law, she will allow Guinevere to find happiness with other man.
I thought the joke was Lancelot is a falsely accused womanizer where he just happens to be with the womanizers butnin reality, he has no no interest and because of his awkwardness in front of Mash/Galahad, the things he does and says gets misinterpreted
I'm very tardy to the party but his video was just as awesome as the rest! believe it or not saber Lancelot is why I started caring and getting into FGO in the first place. idk why but he really spoke to me, kinda tended to favor male servants anyway lol. goes without saying he is and always will be my favorite servant. thanks for giving my son the spotlight here! edit: my love for Lancelot is also extremely likely to have played a part in me liking Melusine so dang much too tbh lol.
A few Minor things 1. Lancelot turning into Iskandar was because his master used a command seal to make Lancelot turn into iskandar using For Someone's Glory, it is not something Lancelot can do naturally
2. Is that arondight can actually shoot a giant Lazer like Excalibur, but Lancelot uses the energy from the beam, condensing it into the blade, to utterly demolish a single target, with Lancelot taking pain from not using arondight in a proper way.
Actually Lancelot CAN use For Someone's Glory to perfectly disguise himself as someone. He just can't do it as a Berserker because his mind isn't clear and precise enough to keep it up
@@diegomendez8201 Yeah Berserker is only physically stronger than Lancelot's Saber form, and even then it only comes up to Mad Enhancement + Aronight. Meanwhile Saber Lancelot has Arondight + Knight of the Lake + being able to properly use his abilities + requiring less magical energy to fight + retaining his mind Eternal Arms Mastery lets Berserker retain his fighting skills, but it does not let him retain his mind
I miss Berserker Lancelot’s Long hair, it made him look more tragic and noble, instead of the awkward dad in his Saber Form. Also I F Nasu for fusing Morgan and Vivian.
A yankee (or rather Yanki) is a kind of Japanese delinquent, often associated with biking and biker gangs. Think of like Josuke from Jojo part 4 for example, his hairstyle and fashion was inspired by the Yankee that saved him when he was a child.
Is it possible that "Yankee" is supposed to be "Yanki"? Yanki were a type of Japanese Delinquent that was known for wearing a pompadour. If you're familiar with Jojo, Josuke would be considered a Yanki As someone who has a hobby of making servant sheets for pop culture characters, I kinda wish Knight of Owner was a Generic skill. It'd be phenomenally useful for certain characters
Yeah I think it's specifically referencing a 1980's Japanese delinquent stereotype with the pompadour hair. Basically the bully/punk character from every 90's anime.
Well if we consider Lancelot hobby to randomly join in a tournament and battle to test his skill, it doesn't had too much different from a Yankee tendency to challenge another Yankee for fame or territory
I’m going to repeat what Red from OSP said at the end of her hades video as I feel it best describes how I and most feel about fgo Lancealot’s characterization, “if your going to criticize him for his faults at least be honest about what they were”. Cause im really am getting sick and tired of the dad jokes and the womenizing comments it’s not funny and it makes me dislike the other characters cause they won’t stop bringing it up but more so the fgo staff
@CrazyYurie That's true but to me it still feels like a missed opportunity to cater a bit to female fans... I am sure his facial expressions could've been entertaining too
Characters from history or myths who only love one peson ( lancelot, Tristan... ) FGO: LET'S MAKE THEM WOMANIZER characters from history or myths who had many wife and lover ( caesar, ozymandius ) FGO: LET'S MAKE THEM LOYAL PARTNERS FOR ONE PERSON
Yanki is an aesthetic that got popular in the late 20th century in japan. From a quick google search, I believe that it was meant to emulate the rockabilly aesthetic, hence why it’s called Yanki (romaji version of Yankee meaning american). Yanki are also delinquents, so his description is basically “a delinquent who repent and got rid of his pompadour (or whatever stereotypically american hairstyle he had)”.
I'm so glad to see this video. I had to watch it as soon as I saw it on my timeline. As a big fan of lancelot, it's disheartening to see the way the Fate franchise and fanbase treats him like some predator who can't keep his hands off married women and as a horrible father When you look at his stories and how much he fought to remain loyal to Guinevere, it is baffling how the FGO writers even came to that conclusion. The SA stuff is horrible as well; we even see the trauma that experiencing that caused him his year stay in the woods and the fact that these events are flaunted in his face as his failings, intentional or not, is messed up. Hopefully, more people will see this video so Lancelot's name may be saved. Awesome work! Clearly a lot of effort was put in! consider me subscribed!
I get the impression that Nasu is a bit of a Gawain fanboy and doesn't really like Lancelot very much. Honestly Camelot pretty much outright portrays Gawain as being the superior fighter too. Which is all good in my book. Lancelot is a mass-murdering, adulterous piece of shit and in our house Gawain is the greatest knight of the round table 😤
i think the comment about saber lancelot being a yankee who repented by cutting off his hair refers to japanese yankees! some young men, especially yankees, will wear their hair long and then cut it once they start looking for a job, as them cutting their hair shows that theyre taking responsibility for themselves as adults.
The basis in the Lore for Lancelot being a Berserker you brought up are pretty niche episode usually not in modern depiction. An important factor in Fate/Zero you didn't bring up is Zouken messing with the summoning spell. In my interpretation of Fate/Zero both as a stand alone story and as a prequel to Stay Night Lancelot was not actually supposed to be eligible to be a Berserker. The Tragic Irony is supposed to be Artoria thinking his madness vindicates Iskandar's criticism of how she ruled when it was all Zouken's doing. That's the thing though, the Fanbase loves to just uncritical view Iskandar as completely right, missing the rather obvious fact that the ideology he's espousing is essentially Fascism, Thomas Carlyle's Heroarchy in it's purest form.
I actually quite like the " deadbeat dad" line, is it horrible and not actually true? Yes. Does it make sense from the prospective a 15 years old galahad? Yes. I don't think that the scene is meant to tell you " lancelot is evil for abandoning his son," what the scene is actually meant to do is give some characterization to Galahad.

You should absolutely do an Agravain video. He is still unreleased on JP so who knows when or if he would be released and you may even need to wait to read the story he's released for the extra characterization, so you might as well do the video and if he does come out you could do a new one with the new info. He could fires beam from it just like Excalibur as an Anti-Army NP, but his favored tactics when using it for duel is the one that we have in FGO, where his slash would render enemy's servant existence became unstable coz the wound would leak mana from their spirit core thus making it very deadly against fellow servant

I think the "yankee who chops off his hair" thing was meant to be similar to how the chonmage topknot that samurai had was a sign of their status and honour and chopping it off was a sign of honour being lost, leading to the samurai in question having the wild hairstyle that Berserker Lancelot had. Essentially it was meant to give off the impression that he saw himself as unhonourable with the hairstyle being visual shorthand which a Japanese audience might understand.
Context: 3:33 I think the translation is off and would be: “(Berserkerlot should have) The aura of a yankee/delinquent who’s in shame/repenting for cutting off his hair.” A “yankee” in Japanese culture is seen as some forms as a “delinquent” The hair part is Japanese, culture-wise, the belief of cutting off your hair, is believed to be what one would be when they’re banished. As of a more modern age, this belief is now to start again. The Yankee ideal stays in line with their hair, the pompadours that are very very much their lifelines. Who they are, it’s their sign as a family, cutting it off would feel very much like being outcasted from the gang and feeling shame.

So on the "For Someone's Glory" disguising him as someone else thing. This was accomplished by way of a Command Spell. So I took that as more a Skill Rank Up benefit from using what gets used in universe as 1 of 3 minor wishes you get to use on your Servant. Normally the NP wouldn't do that but with the extra boost from a Command Spell it takes his reputation for disguising himself as a nameless or even another knight and just... turns it into the ability to appear as another "Knight" fighting in the grail war he is in.
Is it just me or would pretender Elaine be a great villain for a Lancelot centered story. Pretending to be Guinevere and then using that identity to manipulate berzerker Lancelot. It would also be a great opportunity for Galahad to pop up in the story again
That's.... a very good idea. Wow. I like it. o_o
If this happens I'm resuming playing FGO
If we go like this, I want an alter ego or pretender artoria for this. This artoria could be an artoria who got holy grail and do her original wish ( replace herself with another person so this person could do a better job about begin king ). I think this would be great story for both of them

I wouldn't exactly call artoria a deadbeat when she literally didn't know Mordred existed
@@kristianschuff1723 Wouldn't that apply to Lancelot as well?
@@khronostheavenger8923 yes, but arthur is a canonical part of the mythos. Lancelot was a french self insert that was added centuries later.
That doesn't work. Artoria technically is the dad in that situation, and is, again, in a non-consensual situation. Morgan didn't ask Artoria if she could make a homunculus/clone of Artoria.
@CrazyYurie That's actually my point.
Which is kinda funny because now Lancelot has a cute daughter...
I love their cute interaction
It's true but she acted similarly with Romani, who has been her father figure for much longer. Hell if you look at early fgo she is sometimes severe with ritsuka or caster da Vinci too although to a lesser degree. She would have less grievances without Galahad feelings seeping through but she does have higher standard for people she likes/who are basically her family

But I think you will find it's very funny if you can understand Vietnamese.
By the way, what’s up with that tree branch that Saber Lancelot pulls out during his Extra attack and Skill animations?
Does that have any relation to Arthurian Legend?
It's another story where he takes whatever he has available to beat on enemies. :o
A few things:
- Lancelot obsessive need to attack Artoria wasn't because he wanted to murder her, rather it was because he wished to be punished by her.
So true.
In fact, Lancelot not only hid his identity but also impersonated others.
So nf for shapeshifting makes sense.
Didnt he pretend to be Gaheris? I forgot who but I know he pretended to be another knight and no one knew, several times in fact
I remember he did it too when he was once captured, escaping for a day and disguising himself by wearing someone else's ruddy armor to participate to fight. At this point, I'm waiting to see a Pretender class Lancelot coming into the game
@@aphdisket3154 Lmao. 😂
I never knew Lancelot had that relationship with Guinevere just because Richard the lionheart's sister wanted it. It's pretty funny that the fall of Camelot happened because of the sister of the biggest Arthur fan.
I’m not an expert on this subject but i heard that the fall of camelot was an event that was referenced in the earliest known arthurian legend so this was just the reason that was given for it happening (don’t quote me on this)
That only happened in the French versions of king Arthur

@@HyperDragonXtechnically Lancelot was raped by Elaine. It's kinda tragic how FGO treat a rape victim as the womanizer.
"Sword turned into a gun." Emiya alter, was this your doing?
More likley the same weird kinda thing that turned Artorias shield into a Surfboard fore Rider Summer Mordred.
@@neptuneplaneptune3367 actually their is an in universe explanation. Artoria's Shield is called Prydwen and it has the ability to change between the shape of a Shield and a Boat, so basically the Surfboard form is kind of an in-between form
@@dakotadoyle7573 if that was the logic, that was actually a pretty good explaination. Well for silly summer events.
Those two facts can coexist, especially when it took his son/daughter to finally push him over the edge and join our side
His attitude as a berserker is madness enhancement at work, but people who know him all relate that mode of being to how they personally seen him(Gareth and Gawain in particular specifically recall the rescue of Guinevere, and Gareth dying as a result) which happened when he was alive.
Hes the OG OC
You can actually track the changing opinions of the French court with how he is written
The early French versions Vilify Arthur as a bad husband and glorify Lancelots actions
But then in later versions, The French completely vilify him, Arthur becomes more sympathetic , Lancelots actions are seen as Betrayal.
Its very interesting
@@mk_gamíng0609 I've read most novels of the Round Table from Chretiens de Troyes (I still have to read Percival's one), and so far Arthur was described as a generous and appreciable king. Which/whose works are you referring to?

My best guess why Lancelot is a womanizer might be to try and get his mind away from Guinevere. He knows the chances of her being a Servant are wary low, let alone her ever being summoned, and his relationship with her caused nothing but issues. So he forces himself to act as a womanizer maybe to get his mind off of her. But thats just headcanon. I like the rich woman taste too, it is really rich indeed.
For Someone's Glory came from numerous legends where Lancelot would disguise himself as an anonymous knight whose identity was unknown to everyone, Lancelot took advantage of that by appearing randomly in King Arthur's court, performing amazing feats, and then fucking off while everyone was trying to figure out who he was
Lancelot misuses Arondight's sword beam function because he instead chose to focus on Arondight's indestructible nature, hence why Arondight Overload became a thing. When used PROPERLY, Arondight's energy blast is extremely similar to Balmung's blast, a huge and powerful wave-like blast
Lancelot was not made powerful because of the blessings he received from the Lady of the Lake, his foster mother, Lancelot was born a prodigy who was naturally extremely skilled in combat. According to Erice Utsumi's My Room line for Lancelot, he was a monster born with immense natural skill, who then honed his abilities even more by fighting in the harshest of battlefields
There are several versions of Lancelot's battle with Gawain. Some of them where he stalled out Gawain from noon to dusk before swiftly defeating the Knight of the Sun, others where Lancelot outright defeated Gawain regardless of the sun's power boost. Tristan is the only other Knight of the Round Table to have defeated sun-boosted Gawain
Even including Galahad, Lancelot is still regarded as the strongest of the Round Table, with competency and skill that outright surpasses King Arthur. Galahad was the greatest and the perfect knight due to his extremely powerful will and his morals
Yeah Lancelot was never actually a womanizer. He was always the one being chased by women, and Lancelot would always make it known that he only ever loved one woman
Lancelot is at his strongest as a Saber.
In Post-Vulgate Mort Artu
Lancelot is to one that killed mordred's sons
The story it tells is that after Mordred had been killed and King Arthur had vanished, Mordred’s two sons appeared.
Making Lancelot a womanizer really tick me off thanks for covering that
I would love to see the video about Agravain as well. Anything new to learn from Yurie is a welcome one.
Yeah I still love Lancelot in Arthurian Legend 😊
There are indeed a few issues in characterisation yeh...can't argue with that.

A few Minor things

A yankee (or rather Yanki) is a kind of Japanese delinquent, often associated with biking and biker gangs. Think of like Josuke from Jojo part 4 for example, his hairstyle and fashion was inspired by the Yankee that saved him when he was a child.
That's a very weird name they chose, since "Yankee" is much more commonly used as a slang for "American", especially one from the Northeast.
Is it possible that "Yankee" is supposed to be "Yanki"? Yanki were a type of Japanese Delinquent that was known for wearing a pompadour. If you're familiar with Jojo, Josuke would be considered a Yanki

Some times you forget how myths are just stories like any other and lancalot is one of my favorite stories of a fall of all time.
The yankee thing is basically saying to make him look like a reformed delinquent or problem child, I think.

As a big fan of lancelot, it's disheartening to see the way the Fate franchise and fanbase treats him like some predator who can't keep his hands off married women and as a horrible father
When you look at his stories and how much he fought to remain loyal to Guinevere, it is baffling how the FGO writers even came to that conclusion. The SA stuff is horrible as well; we even see the trauma that experiencing that caused him his year stay in the woods and the fact that these events are flaunted in his face as his failings, intentional or not, is messed up.

9:02 all i got from this so far is “don’t blue ball ya boi Lancelot, it won’t end well for you nor the homies.”
i think the comment about saber lancelot being a yankee who repented by cutting off his hair refers to japanese yankees! some young men, especially yankees, will wear their hair long and then cut it once they start looking for a job, as them cutting their hair shows that theyre taking responsibility for themselves as adults.
ok it might be that its mostly modern litterature i had dealt wth but the works ive red lancelot actually was a womenizer till he met gveneviere
That might be in more modern works.
I will be doing a video on Alexander/Iskandar eventually. I think I may have some words to say there about this. :o
@@CrazyYurie Awesome
Lancelot's greatest lore accuracy for me is melusine ( genderbend lancelot ) begin a Lancer class servant
Lancelot has to be my 2nd favorite out of the Round Table Knights. But will you ever do a video on Xuanzang?
I actually quite like the " deadbeat dad" line, is it horrible and not actually true? Yes. Does it make sense from the prospective a 15 years old galahad? Yes.
I don't think that the scene is meant to tell you " lancelot is evil for abandoning his son," what the scene is actually meant to do is give some characterization to Galahad.
A fair point, though people tend to take the "Lancelot bad" perspective rather than "Galahad is shit".
Lancelot is my favorite Saber class Servant and is a pretty close contender for my favorite Berserker. Man is a beast. Thanks for the video! Can't wait to see what you do next!
Funny how i pulled Zerkerlot the day after you uploaded this video, also my first ever 4* (not including the free one at the beginning of the game) was Saberlot who i have at NP3 now
Pfft level 80 and 9,9,9. You gotta pump those numbers up!
Lancelot's gonna have to get in line when it comes to lores. There are way more characters ahead of him. o_o
@@CrazyYurie lol I did love the break down, zerkalot is my main in FGO. Got him NP5 120, 10,10,10, max fou,CC enhanced, and full append. One day he’ll get a buff lol…I hope.
@@syxpaths5809 Wow. Yours must be super-powerful then! While I do make use of my own Lancelot for ST Saber funtimes, he tends to share that role in my Chaldea with Summer Hokusai, Musashi, and Okita. :3
I mean this in the best way possible
You're videos have gotten too long for me to do my little comments 😂
I'm so proud of you, you're videos have always been good but they keep getting better
Thanks! Though... this one was a slog. I need at least a day of sleep now. XD
@@CrazyYurie you more than deserve it! Rest well you Legend
15:04 Hmmm judging by how fate operates you think they would have mentioned Artoria conquering the Roman empire, but no 🤔 strange
It's not just that: it doesn't even really come up again in Mallory either, despite the fact that...you know... it would be kiiiind of a big deal to have King Arthur ruling Western Rome?
30:12
Funfact: Lancelot is a woman in Campione!
I do not know what this is.
@@CrazyYurie It's a series where figures/gods from legend "descend" upon Earth and royally screw shit up just by existing and sometimes getting killed by a human with said human getting some godly power via magical ritual (and implied to be chosen by the slain Legend/God) and becoming a being called a Campione. Campione can also keep adding new powers to themselves by killing more Legends/Gods.
You should absolutely do an Agravain video. He is still unreleased on JP so who knows when or if he would be released and you may even need to wait to read the story he's released for the extra characterization, so you might as well do the video and if he does come out you could do a new one with the new info. I would really like to know what you would say about him.
Off topic:but I really wanna know how does Emiya compare to his historical version though
My friend mistaken him for Dante though
What is emiya’s historical version? Also which one specifically
Emiya is a TM original, so...
Getting a haircut = Starting a new life
So He couldn't cause people to magically bisect in half It's Arondight Over
The sword could produce bright lights in n lore
He could fires beam from it just like Excalibur as an Anti-Army NP, but his favored tactics when using it for duel is the one that we have in FGO, where his slash would render enemy's servant existence became unstable coz the wound would leak mana from their spirit core thus making it very deadly against fellow servant
His Knight of Owner NP comes from the time when he fought an opponent with nothing but a tree branch.
Also, I hate to say it but this is actually the video that I enjoyed the least in this series despite the effort you put in it. I don’t know why, but something felt…off about it in comparison to your other videos. Unreasonable reason, but still…
:(
Gonna be real, I've been looking forward to this video for long time! Lancelot is my personal favorite Round Table Kinght so learning more about him is really cool.
ARRRRRRTHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
i alrways say " most knight servents are also rider servents we jsut never see the rider form"
It makes sense. If I recall correctly, didn't the roman word most similar to "knight" refer to cavalry?
@@abbadon9693 not the roman but the german word is ritter which also can be translated as reiter one means knight one means rider
@@wallycastagnir Ah, thanks, my german's not the best. And now I'm just realizing that I used Roman as a language. I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote that comment.
About time for the video. Is he a Frank knight in the group of Arthur's Round Table in medieval era or in myths and legends?
Ngl, a D is a wild rating.I would’ve given him at least a C-
It may have been harsher than necessary, but...
I really don't understand why you got a suicidal tone from Lady of the Lake. Was it because he took off everything?
It's how the text read to me. I even made a point of getting a second opinion from someone, and they read it the same way I did. x_x
@@CrazyYurie At least you got a second opinion.
Was waiting for this one ! Can't watch it now though, I'll look at it later ^^
Wanted to comment anyways haha
I think the "yankee who chops off his hair" thing was meant to be similar to how the chonmage topknot that samurai had was a sign of their status and honour and chopping it off was a sign of honour being lost, leading to the samurai in question having the wild hairstyle that Berserker Lancelot had. Essentially it was meant to give off the impression that he saw himself as unhonourable with the hairstyle being visual shorthand which a Japanese audience might understand.
It does seem like a cultural mistranslation, since "Yankee" means something very different to an American.
Context:
3:33
I think the translation is off and would be:
“(Berserkerlot should have) The aura of a yankee/delinquent who’s in shame/repenting for cutting off his hair.”
A “yankee” in Japanese culture is seen as some forms as a “delinquent”
The hair part is Japanese, culture-wise, the belief of cutting off your hair, is believed to be what one would be when they’re banished. As of a more modern age, this belief is now to start again.
The Yankee ideal stays in line with their hair, the pompadours that are very very much their lifelines. Who they are, it’s their sign as a family, cutting it off would feel very much like being outcasted from the gang and feeling shame.
Still, you must know that as someone from the US, "Yankee" means something very different.
@@CrazyYurie
As someone from the USA studying Japanese and has done translations for things into English.
Many people, I included, do not think one would ever think anyone who “does research” wouldn’t know JP translation would use JP terms, not United States Terms.
This is Japan’s term if Yankee, not ours.
I’m not here to argue, but to answer your own question of your stupidity, yes, at this moment, you are being stupid.
Yes, I do see how one can see how you saw the yankee form of the US term. But in reality, it’s the japanese term of Yankee.
Berserker Lancelot's appearance was clearly based on the Berserker Armor from the Berserk manga
I've never seen that.
I'd love to see that Agravain video!!!
27:05 I thought I am alone
Yankee is what they call delinquents in Japan, so reformed delinquent vibe?
I've never heard this before. o_o
@@CrazyYurie i do watch too much anime...
@@blakerenimu9033 I actually don't watch very much - especially these days.
Can you do Siegfried and Sigurd?
Check the community tab.
Remember seeing something about which was the greatest Knight of the Round Table and had Lancelot and Gawain and Percival
I could put the movie scene in search of the holy grail, killing everyone at the wedding
next is someone who the only thing i know about is they are part of the Venus club, well guess it's time to learn about someone new
Best dad
Brilliant video! I never knew Lancelot was so interesting in Arthurian Legend, serious amazing job
He has an enormous amount of page-time, probably more than any other character - even King Arthur.
Agrivane would be a fun topic to explore
27:05
No, no. You're not alone on that.
I' am now into married women because of lancelot, all I can day is Imma do a camelot 2.0.
So, when is the benkei video dropping?
Could be a while... x_x

To think the 7DS sequel is much more historically accurate. Also poor Jericho, she should stop aiming for someone in that bloodline
