In Flames! And btw - why not doing games talk? Would watch it, maybe also about old games from the 90s, 2010? Good bottle of cold beer and with guests?
I love these interviews when two Swedes meet.. and they talk in English . Please , invite mr Mikael Akerfeldt.. Fredrik Thordendal...Dan Swano... or Peter Tagtgren . So many talented people in such a small country .
Bjorn wanted to build a guitar for less than $1000 so that young people could buy it for Christmas by working hard during the year. Really, it's the first time I've seen an artist think about that. And it's really to his credit. Real good values.
I got meet in flames at a festival in 2016 very randomly. I was buying vinyl in a merch tent and their tour manager came in and saw me buying a Clayman vinyl. Next thing I know he’s taking me backstage to a tent and there’s all the guys just standing around! The manager asks if they mine meeting one more fan for the time. They welcomed me with open arms took pictures, chatted and signed my vinyl. I spent a good hour listening to stories about the tour their experience on the festival so far. The last thing we did was have a drink! Honestly the nicest and most humble group of dudes I’ll probably ever meet. I’ve always been a fan but they won me over forever after that!
Björn is one of my favourite guitarists and favourite humans actually. He’s humble, genuine, intelligent and knows what he wants from life and music. Great guy. Thanks for this Ola. Loved it, excellent interview.🤘🏻☕️💯
I love that Bjorn is a drummer first and he will straight up tell you, he learned to play guitar the wrong way and can’t tell you notes, chords, etc. That completely blows my mind. He will say he isn’t a very good guitarist🙄 So humble.
"I'm happy as a pig in shit" rofl it's crazy how accurate his personality matches his style of music writing/playing. He clearly doesn't feel like he needs to prove anything to anyone and that makes Bjorn an absolute legend.
Let’s raise a glass to the Late Borje Salming. He was much loved in Toronto. A great hockey player with great mental and physical toughness. RIP Borje.
One of my favorite all time Thanksgiving memories was having Thanksgiving dinner with the In Flames boys at Dimes house in 2008 with Rita and the family. I remember it was the In Flames first time to ever eat a thanksgiving meal (because they were usually in Sweden at that time of year) and I remember myself trying to explain what "stuffing" was to Peter Iwers. Stuffing doesn't sound very appetizing when you explain what it is but man he loved it lol. Great guys they thanked Rita and all of us for the meal the next night on stage at the gig in Dallas. In Flames played with Type o Negative the night after Thanksgiving that year. They invited all of us to Sweden to eat a meal at their home. Love the content!!!
Back in 97 I was a massive power metal nerd, I was one of those who thought nothing could top it as far as melody and musicality goes. Until a friend came to a new year's eve party and told me "just play this". "This" was Whoracle and it completely blew me away and changed my whole perspective of metal. I can't wait for the new album to come out.
Björn is such a cool guy! So looking forward to see In Flames in 2 weeks! Great to see that Coffee with Ola is back this year and stronger then ever. Rob Flynn last time and now Björn...just awesome! 🤘 🤘🤘
Just saw these guy with meshuggah and torche at the tabernacle in Atlanta, and I must say they were one of the most professional and tight sounding live bands I have ever heard. These guys really are masters of their craft and I was so glad I finally got to see them.
When I was young I wanted my band to have the heavy riffs of Pantera and the melody of Iron Maiden, that mixture was my goal as to how my metal band would sound like, then I come across In Flames and they executed that sound. And I've been a life long fan, plus, they also have that RadioHead album :)
It’s funny I listened to that album every day as a 16 year old. Worshipped that sound and certainly over did it. I prefer the newer material, it’s more focused on songs and melodies, more concise and accessible. As a 34 year old man now, I’ve grown and evolved with this band and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Foregone is going to be a masterpiece and the only way In Flames reaches this point, is through going through different musical experiments and expressions. Their journey has been amazing to witness and be a part of. Forever my favorite band. 🤘🔥🔥💚🤘
My cousin and I had a conversation about that album and slaughter of the soul. We can't think of any two albums that have the same impact that those two. It's really hard to find two albums that are as influential to this day.
It’s also my favorite album apart from Whoracle. I could already see the change to a more commercial direction with Clayman and I don’t blame them. If you want to make a living only from music, you have to try reach as wide an audience as possible and the pure melodeath sound of the 90s just isn’t accessible enough for mainstream success.
Bjorn seems like a great guy. I met Anders in Edinburgh this past year, my friend was out on tour with In Flames and we met up for a drink after the show. We sat for a few minutes, and then Anders walked into the bar. He said hello to everyone at our table (because we were with my friend Ulf who was on tour with them), and the first thing he did was offer to buy a round of drinks. We spent an hour or so just talking away, and he treated us all like we were all old friends. He was a super down to earth guy, and watching this, Bjorn seems exactly the same! The new stuff sounds absolutely KILLER and they're on fire live these days too. Can't wait for the album.
I saw them with Megadeth in the US this year and I had never heard of them before.. where have I been living under a rock apparently! I’m literally in love with this band! I have them on repeat daily and still are discovering their music and it’s an awesome feeling 🖤🖤
@@kennalanigan9019 I was a big fan a metal and punk in the 80s when I was a kid , then I got way into Jambands , around 2017 my love for metal was ignited by discovering bands like Trivium, In Flames , KSE, Parkway Drive , even hometown band Hatebreed and many others. I can’t believe that I nearly missed all these bands and even later music from earlier bands like Death Angel , Testament
Bjorn is such a good dude. Every time I've interacted with him, he's always been warm and welcoming. Even if he didn't actually remember me, he certainly made me feel like an old friend.
Both Bjorn and Chris were the ABSOLUTE NICEST guitarists I've met. Plus Chris is built like Thor and was so soft spoken, cool, patient, and nice during the meet and greet I was at. Absolutely awesome to hear he's officially in the band and he was absolutely brutal with his rhythm riffs has created/plays in the latest album.
Björn seems like a really down to earth cool guy.. That’s so awesome that he is so happy playing with the guys he is playing with.. I’m so looking forward to the new album
Got to meet In Flames after a gig many years ago (I want to say maybe 2009/2010). Spent almost the entire time discussing movies with Bjorn - for some reason Morgan Freeman movies in particular. Incredibly humble guy. Great interview!
This band deserves props!! In flames is many of my family's influences for there music!.great melodic superior band thanks for doing this interview!!💯%
I remember when I was in high school people would hate on In Flames and I was one of the few who would listen to their music. Everyone just viewed In Flames as being the stereotypical “sellout” band all because they were popular and their singles were ALWAYS badass!
So glad to see the interviews again Ola! I do wish that we got to hear a little more information about his background and inspirations for the the iconic Gothenburg sound they helped create, only because they are such a mystery for me (and I’ve been listening for almost 20 years) and the new fans. 🤘🤘🤘
This may sound really old and repetitive, but It is really remarkable the quality of English that is being spoken here. I know many people who have English as a first and only language who have neither the pronunciation or actual word count vocabulary of many Scandinavians.
Thank you so much for this interview! In Flames is my favorite band and can listen to them over and over. I can honestly say, that I love all their music. I have spent many nights listening to one album after another and getting lost in all of it. It was great to see this interview and learn so much about Bjorn and see how humble he is.
RIP Borje Salming. The greatest Leafs defenceman to ever play the game of hockey. A pioneer who paved the way to the NHL for all European hockey players.
Finally! It's so great to see Ola talking to one of my guitar heroes, also taking into account the fact that he is also from Sweden! It was a fun interview. Thank you, Ola!👍
I've been visiting an In Flames show some days ago and have to say it was the most fun I've had at a live show this year. And it's up in the Top5 Liveshows I've seen all my life. The band showed great energy and enthusiasm for what they do. The setlist was perfect for me with a nice mix of old and new songs.
Dude, In Flames is a metal band close to the heart. I was in Slovenia back in 2002 and I made a blind purchase of the Tokyo Showdown album which turned out to be one of the greatest music purchases of my life. I can proudly say I brought that album home and introduced EVERY metal head I knew in America to In Flames for the first time. Finally, I saw them live with Megadeth, Lamb of God, and Killswitch in Arizona last year. I love watching these interviews 🤘🏼
I remember asking for this interview in the comments a long time ago, when you were just starting out this series and I wasn't sure you had the pull to make it happen then, but I'm glad you do now. Bjorn is one of my guitar heroes. A lot of guitarists think of guys like Steve Vai, Petrucci, Satriani, etc....I think of Bjorn, his melodic and rhythm work. Such a down to earth dude and a gamer to boot, and responsible for some of the most amazing melodic death metal songs to ever grace our ears. What a legend.
Bjorn doesn't get enough credit imo. Sure, Jesper was the main guy and wrote a lot of their songs but Bjorn also did a lot of songwriting and after Jesper left, Bjorn knew how to keep In Flames going. Sounds of a Playground Fading especially proves that In Flames is fine without Jesper. I'm sure Foregone will also prove that, as did much of I, the Mask and a few songs from Battles.
I wish one day i'll be that calm and coll as Bjorn :) Love in flames, in my only band i was singing we were playing Only for the weak cover along with our songs :)
That was a really nice conversation! Really enjoyed the insight into Björns opinion on gear and how practical he is when it comes to sound. Thank you for that and all the best.
Björn is such a down-to-earth guy. Always liked him. I'm one of those "assholes" that criticizes IF. I however always think that they should do what THEY want. That's the most important thing.
Don't worry about it getting nerdy in the beginning Man, I think a lot of us musicians are game players ourselves. They are an outlet, it's like you are playing a piece of art, so I was actually giddy to hear he's a big fan of my lot of my favorites as well. Back in the early 2000's, Bjorn really pushed me to become a better all around guitarist with inserting awesome melodies in my songs. That dude writes some of the most back chilling riffs. I also started out mainly as a drummer and then gravitated towards guitar because the band I was in needed one. I do not know notes, I don't know the names of scales, I just know where the sounds are if that makes sense. So it's cool We have that in common.
With streaming services and no need to buy LP's or CD's anymore, touring and playing live is the only real way to make money as a musician anymore. I didn't even think about how the pandemic totally ruined that whole industry. Even now that things are (mostly) back to normal as Bjorn said, a lot of that normal infrastructure has changed/disappeared. World-class bands that have toured the world multiple times are having to scrounge to set up shows the same way our tiny local bands do. What a time we live in.
Hey Thanks Ola !! I've been listening to in flames for many many years... in fact since the ''Mix Band'' they had called Dark Tranquility back in 1993 that I was listening in Highschool. One last thing... I would not understand a word of it but having you guys speak Swedish sometimes would be cool in the future, just add the subtitles and that will be fine. Cheers!!
Bjorn me love you long time. Got to meet you in Orlando. Also started as a drummer and also I may have stolen some riffs from you lol you told me it was ok hahaa. I'm retired marine corps and you guys were absolutely the best and I appreciate the love you showed me and my girl
Cant remember how many years ago. The first In flames album I was buying is subterranean EP released from Wrong Again Records. Their earliest stuff liked the jester race is most cool and I most enjoy it, very creative and sound is so unqiue...heavy stuff with nylon accoustic guitar in between sometimes. Very happy can found this interesting interview here.
I love this guy.remembering back then after school me n my friends go to disc store n i find their albums 1.the jester race 2.colony 3.Strck 2 your escape 4.Clayman 5.rerout 2 remain I bought altogather couse i love the artworks haha..from there i learn to listened melodic swedish metal.

Matt Heafy of Trivium had a similar goal with his original LP signature in either '15 or '17. Really good on both of them for that mindset.
I would love epiphone to rerelease them, they were beautiful.

By far my favorite Coffee With Ola so far. Bjorn has to be one of the most humble rockstars of all time!
Bjorn and Jesper were huge influences on my guitar playing and just my love of music. So awesome you got to interview him!
Let’s raise a glass to the Late Borje Salming. He was much loved in Toronto. A great hockey player with great mental and physical toughness. RIP Borje.

Awesome story dude. Also, a Type O/In Flames show sounds incredible.
Amazing story . I got to open up for in flames and they were so cool to me

The show at Dalhalla was amazing and now just a couple of weeks left to see them in Gothenburg! Best band in the world. Period.
One of the good guys in the metal scene. Personable, friendly and willing to treat their fans well as well as the bands they have touring with them.

Yes, love the album. The lead guitar riffs are AMAZING. After Whoracle the songs changed alot. Clayman was still pretty good but after that meh.

There we go Ola! Awesome host, awesome guest!
OMG! A dream come true to talk with Bjorn Gelotte! \m/
I have met Bjorn twice and I can say he is my favourite guitar player.
Met Bjorn last weekend in London, along with the other IF guys. Dream come true. What a humble bunch of guys. Always enjoy Bjorn’s insights

He really loves touring. He had a smile on his face almost the entire show when I saw them in September.
Love their new album! Been with them since jester race. Never made a bad album. Bjorn is a humble dude, I love the way he thinks. Keep it simple!
My guitar Hero Björn. Im goin to love this video, THANK YOU Ola!

I was in the military when Reroute To Remain came out and it blew my mind.
@@bobbywagner1113 Fantastic fucking album!
Can't believe you say that... What year was that? 😅 They were so underground during my high school days.
Niceeee so glad to see coffee with Ola back! In flames is great! Definitely one of the best guitar tones ever!!!
Recently attended Knotfest in Melbourne. This bloke was the standout musician for me. Absolutely ripping set.
I think this is easily the best Coffee with Ola you have done. Definitely flowed the best and felt like a very natural conversation.

Man, I've been listening to these guys since Colony and had no clue he was such a big gamer, that's awesome. Really fun interview.
I was so happy to see In Flames play a show here in Mississippi with Megadeth. They are so awesome! 🤘
His work on whoracle as drummer + acoustic is insane but then to come on and play on Colony as lead and everything after is insane.

Another run of Bjorn @epiphone signature guitars would be awesome!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼
thank you Ola, you both awesome. This is a quality conversation. It has lots of information about IF and the Björn himself.
Björn has the personality and modesty that every human being should strive for. Love that guy, love Ola, love this channel. Thank you!
One of the best guitar interviews I’ve seen, a lot of nuances of recording you guys touched on!
Seems like he is a really chill and down to earth guy. Great interview so far, cheers from France 🤘🏻
Had the chance to meet Bjorn and the rest of the band when they were touring in Europe with Gojira back in 2007. So cool guys 🤘

2022 EU Tallinn start of the tour show was killer, Björn! Also, very cool to see the OG-s here.
Thank you very much Ola for this "coffee with Ola". I really enjoyed it, In Flames is an awsome band, thank you so much!
In Flames we trust! So excited about the new album. My favorite band of all time, and what a nice chat
Finally, a great interview with Bjorn! Thanks)
Long time fan of In Flames, they are such an authority in the genre. It was nice to see this side of Björn, thanks for doing this Ola!
Ola and Bjorn, you’re my heroes !!🤘🤘🤘🎸
Cant remember how many years ago. The first In flames album I was buying is subterranean EP released from Wrong Again Records. Their earliest stuff liked the jester race is most cool and I most enjoy it, very creative and sound is so unqiue...heavy stuff with nylon accoustic guitar in between sometimes. Very happy can found this interesting interview here.
Two class acts. Great convo and humility.
Brilliant.. A to Z, On both side.. thanks!

Ahhhh man OLA. Thank you for this one. Björn was and still is my biggest guitar inspiration. Ever since I heard the clayman album I was hooked.
