I studied for year, at a fairly renowned music university here in Sweden, and more than once, when we had theory lessons, the teachers would say: "if you want more examples of this, after the lesson, check out Rick Beato on youtube. He's got a great video about this" I think that's a pretty good seal of approval if any.

Rolling Stone these days is mostly self-righteous virtue signalling about politics, Rick totally avoids that kind of irrelevant and divisive noise, one of many reasons why he's popular!
Rick recently released a sit down with Petrucci, Tosin, and Devin, three guys Ola knows well and has interviewed. I love the large/small aspect of this community...
We are in golden times - Ola and Rick together! And Both now have had Devin Townsend. Damn, these are good days for guitar folk. Now can we get 66Samus into this mix?
Watching Rick briefly explaining why adults cannot develop perfect pitch using scientific data from linguistics only makes me appreciate his contents even more. I have a passion for guitar playing and linguistics (more specifically, language acquisition) and watching him answering Ola's question was great.
As an older guy myself, I would say it's either too late in the day. Don't have the prostate to not pee every 15 minutes . Or the fact that as you get older generally your body just doesn't cope as well with coffee. Or they already geeked out on good coffee before the show. Me personally, I love coffee, it doesn't love me.
@RickBeato mentioning Refused made me so happy. People have caught on to the record now I think, and it's such an important album for the genre. One of those life altering records if you like aggressive music.
I am happy to be one amongst those who loved the album when it came out. I listened the album a million times. I was into all punk and hardcore and i had a purist vein, but also a experimental one, both feeding each other in my brain. Those were times when people actually were asking "what is punk actually? What is it to be punk, to play punk?" and many brought very interesting proposals. Imho, The Shape Of Punk To Come is in pair with some of the albums by Fugazi.
Algorithm or serendipity? We’ll never know, but two of my favorite youtubers hanging out and picking each other’s brain has made this day so much brighter
Rick is great because he appreciates music in general and is extremely open minded. He's not the most extreme metal guy but deeply gets it all. If you notice when he talks about death metal etc. he grasped at rhythm and complexity being just as important as other parts of music. He finds the diamonds amongst the coal in music which is why he's so good at what he does. He also can elaborate why stuff really works in music which most "reaction" people cannot do. Some do though and one I do like is the Charismatic Voice. She's great at what she does.
I'd like to hear Rick produce and mix an extreme metal band. It could be very interesting to hear how his ear sorts out those kinds of voicings and tones. I have a sneaking suspicion it would be a lot clearer than your usual metal producers come up with, but still heavy as hell.
Two of my favorite content makers sitting together. I think you can clearly see how much Ola respects Rick because Ola's demeanor was a little more "serious" I guess you could say. It's really cool that they respect each other and have collaborated. Ola shouldn't sell himself short at all though in terms of his own validity and importance. Ola began his content a long time ago and, whereas his content caters mostly to us metalheads, his reach has spread even further I believe. Heck, I just purchased a Solar guitar recently and much of it is because of how much I adore Ola's channel and vibe. Killer guitar, but it's got a lot to do with wanting to just be a part of Ola's community. Loved the video ESPECIALLY the part where Pix rolled in to get interviewed as well lol. That's another thing, Ola's channel has made me want to get rid of my adorable little dog and go get an English Bull Terrier!
The subsidised music lessons in Sweden probably helps. How much it's subsidised varies a bit between the different municipalities. In my own it has been completely free since 2019 and you are eligible from grade 0 - 9 (mandatory school) and 1 - 3 (gymnasium). Since it's part of the actual school system you are allowed to leave your ordinary classes for your "culture class". Then of course there are the mandatory music lessons at school as well...
I can really appreciate how much Ola is willing to elaborate on his point of view of a topic or his experience in order to bring out a better answer out of the interviewee. It also feels more like a dynamic discussion than an interview, and the title of the segment fits perfectly.
They're both good interviewers because they actually let their guests talk openly. Not forcing the flow, as you said. So the two of them together doesn't even feel like an interview, it's just two pros talking shop. That's cool, and informative.
The thing about Swedes having to stay inside most of the year can be applied to a lot of stuff, just look at Sweden's car culture, there are tons of cool cars that are being restored and worked on during the winter, to be enjoyed during the short summer, which makes swedes excell at working on cars.
I didn't really know that Rick was such a production nerd :D but also a well-spoken and relatable guy, and this interview brought out Ola's relatability as well. good job!
Rick Beato is the BOSS! Great interview Ola... Damn you have become so professional in so many things throughout the years. Det är underbart att ditt "imperium" växa.
Fantastic! My two favorite channels! @OlaEnglund I was just wondering - to get a bit more variety in your editing, it would be great to have a camera closer on your guest's face, one close on you and a wide shot and switch between the 3 camera's. The angles are just a bit too similar, which is too bad because it makes the edit look a bit boring. But - great content as always!
I'm an amateur drummer for many years. I know ZERO when it comes to specifics on "Modded Amps", "Mics", guitars, producing, video editing BUT I could have listened to 2 more hours of Rick's and Ola's discussion on all these topics. What a fun, down to earth, chill hang with 2 of my favorite YT personalities. Thanks for this! Looking forward to Ola playing through Rick's rigs in Atlanta, getting them to CHUG!!!
You need to watch ANY video Rick has done on Drums/Drumming/Drummers. I'm not a drummer but into musicians and what they do, and have learned SOO much from him (and Andrew Rooney).
I've just watched Beato's interview with Petrucci, Tosin Abasi and Devin Townsend. They mentioned Ola and it seemed like Rick had no idea who they were talking about. And there he is on Ola's channel.🙂
I’m so happy this interview happened. I’ve watched both of you guys for years, and when Rick said he was going to Sweden, I thought, “he should do a Coffee with Ola.” You both are treading new ground on what can be done with music education, and ultimately, music inspiration. All the best to you both!!
I am so grateful for this interview with Rick. Such a great opportunity to hear some interesting answers from the person who is usually asking the questions. And Ola has made the point here: it makes Rick's enthusiasm for music and his topics what makes his videos so great. Thank you both so much !! \m/
Lots of respect for Ola here. It's great that finally someone ELSE interviews Rick! As of today, this is my favorite YOU TUBE Video. It's Silver, Gold, and PLATINUM!

In the beginning it was like you were describing Seattle. The people “blossom” when the sun finally comes back in April/May but doesn’t really settle in until July/August. That glorious day when you can finally wear shorts and a T-shirt, no hoodie/jacket is like a coming to a Jesus moment. Living in Georgia these last 9 years has been a nice change with weather.

It's great to hear Rick say put out a full album. As a metal fan, when I started buying music the bands I liked were rarely, if ever, in the charts so I got used to buying albums in order to have my favourite songs from my favourite artists. As a result, these days I still buy albums and if I was to put my own music out to the world I'd make albums.
One of a Swedish band as well, well ahead of its time was „Eleven Pictures“. The Album Flowerland is mindblowing. Ola and Rick: Would be interesting to hear if you know the band.
Four days ago Rick had John Petrucci, Tosin Abasi, and Devin Townsend in his room THEN Two days ago Ricky boy had coffee with Ola!? Damn, what a week has it been!
The two guys that have kept me sane over the two years I've spent getting back on my feet after an accident...talking together....im only just learning guitar in my 40s and you both are so entertaining and likable and just want to say thank you for being who you are... Rick and ola you are legends 🙌 thank you
Rick is better than I expected, became a big fan and been subscribed/watching his stuff for over a year. They were both correct about 'the community', that we are. BROTHERHOOD
4:07 He's not wrong about places with bad weather having great music! All over Québec we have a lot of great musicians and shitty long winters that feel like 6 months (although it's closer to 4). So a lot of time to stay indoors and make music!
It's related to not having much else to do. The members of Judas Priest and Black Sabbath have mentioned this. Same with Voivod. Boring, industrial environments. Then there's Seattle, with all the rain. Not much else to do. However, Florida and California are strange...
@@janneranta7373 I lived in the Caribbean as a kid, Pretty much on the equator. You get a sunset and then a moon rise that basically makes it so light you can see as far as you could during the day but it looks like you're viewing stuff through a filter. The people I knew down there were very musical and at least at that time, ate and breathed music.
@@MoreMeRecording Lived in LA and it was just sun, all day, every day. Still there are all these bands that have started there - but if you look at hair metal, it's definitely a product of wanting to be seen, which is very LA. Then you go out towards the desert and you start to have little places that gave birth to Kyuss and all those bands. That, again, relates to having nothing else to do. I think the big thing, when many musicians talk about why they started to play, is simply that there was nothing else to do.
I just gotta mention that I'm so thankful for Rick's work! But I'm also thankful for your work, Ola. Like you said, that aren't a lot of people doing what you guys do with this kind of passion who can speak to us in a way that brings up all of these good feelings about music. I can say that I feel inspired by both of you to find my own way within music.
7:00 I studied language pedagogy and one thing I remember is that learners have to be familiar with the phonemes of the language until around the age of 12 (pre-puberty) to be able to produce the sounds just like a native. It has to do something with brain development (the cortex if I remember correctly). It becomes increasingly difficult to impossible to pick up the nuances of the tonality or phonemes of an unfamiliar language. This reaffirms what Rick said about his kids laughing at him for not noticing the mispronunciation haha. It would be very interesting to transfer this knowledge of tonal hearing and age to music education too.
I'm not sure if that's entirely true. As an adult I do a lot better with sounds like the Japanese R or that intermediate sound between W and V that shows up in a lot of languages. As a kid I always heard both of those as flips (L in place of R, R in place of L; W instead of V, V instead of W) one day in my late 20s it just clicked that they were additional, unique consonants. Because I'm very much -not- fluent in languages besides English it catches people off guard when I can repeat a phrase they give me that makes most English speakers stumble because it contains a sound English speakers don't normally make.
I have the same experience as @skaldlouiscyphre2453. Only in early adulthood I noticed the subtle differences between pronunciation and had no problem learning the right pronunciation of all the Arabic letters. I don't think there's a cutoff age for these things, you just need to take the time to listen to these things very closely which a lot of adults won't do. @skaldlouiscyphre2453
@@snabdub695 Thanks for responding both of you! The problem we are talking about is called the Critical Period Hypothesis, which suggests that there is an age limit until which learners can acquire native-like language skills more easily. This theory is not universally accepted, but there's evidence indicating that certain aspects of it might be true (since there's a multitude of language skills). It is generally believed that you definitely CAN learn a foreign language at any point of your life, and I absolutely support it too! But both the Brain Plasticity Theory and the CPH suggest that *in terms of accent and pronunciation* it is more advisable to start learning before pre-puberty. My new favorite example to this is Edward Teller (my fellow Hungarian), who lived 3/4 of his very long life in America, but never managed to master the "correct" US accent, sometimes even to the point of being un-understandable, to me at least. There have to be of course examples of mastering native-like pronunciation and accent as adults. I'm not familiar enough with the field of tonal perception to claim anything about the connection between hearing and pronunciation. I, for one know that my listening skills and accent in English have drastically improved since I've been listening to native speakers all the time. I'm really happy to hear about your language learning successes!
It's so true. Rick's ability to tell a story is captivating and why his channel is my favorite. No offense Ola, this is the first time I've seen your channel. Great interview!

Great talk. Thanks. Tack Ola och Rick.
Four days ago Rick had John Petrucci, Tosin Abasi, and Devin Townsend in his room
THEN
Two days ago Ricky boy had coffee with Ola!?
Damn, what a week has it been!
Holy crap I’m surprised RUclips didn’t crash. My two favorite RUclipsrs together. Fantastic video.
Rick Beato speaking spanish 00:10
2 of my favorite musicians. Thanks Ola for making this collaboration happen.
Coffee with Joe Duplantier next 🙏🏻
O hell yes❤
The two guys that have kept me sane over the two years I've spent getting back on my feet after an accident...talking together....im only just learning guitar in my 40s and you both are so entertaining and likable and just want to say thank you for being who you are... Rick and ola you are legends 🙌 thank you
Whoa!!!! Well done Ola for getting Rick on your show! You are starting to gain some very large traction, keep it up! 👏👏
Rick is better than I expected, became a big fan and been subscribed/watching his stuff for over a year. They were both correct about 'the community', that we are. BROTHERHOOD
What an awesome interview 🤘
Thank you both for your contribution to the music community!

Can't believe these interviews are free. Awesome stuff always learning from this channel.
What an incredible show! Thanks Ola!
What a great interview and conversation, both of you with so much knowledge, intention and presence.
Very unexpected but very nice 👍
It's so true. Rick's ability to tell a story is captivating and why his channel is my favorite. No offense Ola, this is the first time I've seen your channel. Great interview!
ha! knew it, when Rick came to Sweden that you'll have a chat.
I've liked a lot of your videos Ola, but this one was probably my favorite. I liked it all the way, but especially when you thanked Rick for pushing positivity really got to me. Kudos to both of you 👍
Nice! Rick seems a really cool guy! Watching now!
0:19 the Ola side cam reminds me of how they filmed LOTR, in Frodo and Gandalf indoor scenes
Is Ola huge or Rick tiny?
Ola is 6’4 or around there
Aaaaaamazing didn’t see that coming! Rick Beato! 👌👌
I love how it takes less than 2 minutes before Rick's in interview mode LOL - "So I wonder about that, the weather is it always like that?". Such an engaging human, and a badass, Ola included.
This makes me so happy. Two amazing musical gurus & major influencers to hundreds of thousands of people including myself.
