RIck should do a video on "What Makes a Music Store Great". Seriously, I've been in hundreds of music instrument stores and some of them have been absolutely fantastic and others complete dogs. I would love to see a great video on the breakdown of what the big differences are.
@@Thisworldthisweek oscillation, dicordance and ringtone... Just in case i'm misundertood, James O'Brien kicks ass. Can't wait for a GB News, talkradio, Daily Mail/Express bot to come-a-running.
Nice! It's funny to watch when two people who professionally interview people all the time sit together and interview one another, how the sense of timing is perfect. Like Captain asks something and sits quiet listening to as long as the talk comes, and Rick just stops right away when he comes to the end of his point and he's so coherent with his story telling, and Captain immediately catches the ball and throws it back. It's so smooth sailing.
When Rick interviews geniuses like Pat Metheny I can see how blown away they are with the depth of understanding Rick has of their music. Most interviewers only ask journalistic questions like "who were your influences" or "how do you learn guitar"? But Rick will want to discuss an interesting chord substitution or unusual phrase on some deep cut from an album recorded by the artist 20 years ago. Watch Metheny's face light up, his body language relax, and his attention focus fully on the discussion. Same thing with Sting. These genius musicians recognize a kindred soul and someone who truly appreciates and understands their work. Hard to beat that. ✌❤
rick made me understand modes despite my former teacher tried to force it on me and i never understood it. and all of that for free. such a mvp, such a great influence for me.
When my youngest son was starting out this shop allowed him to play top line guitars. 15 years on he has the most amazing collection of gear and that's what he spends his money on. Great video
I just love Rick he brings the soul ❤️ to all the music I grew up with, with only a few exceptions and that's ok... He's a few years younger than me. But what he covers from my youth through my married years is priceless. I think I can safely say as long as we have Rick Music everything is in good hands. Thanks to Andertons for this interview. Rick brings the Synergy and the more.
I hear you but the reality is he has a massive following & in many ways he’s spreading love & awareness for these smaller channels just by being in them - he will pull his crowd in & that can’t be bad 😎👍
it's october 2024, the world has gone mad and I can't watch the news anymore. This video was the perfect antidote. Fun, light and informative. Beato is a legend and it was great to have him our side of the pond.
His son Dylan is what drew me to Rick in the first place. I was talking with my friends and one of my buddies said the strangest thing. He said that all American car horns were the note F sharp. He had heard someone else say that and I started thinking about other common sounds we have that are so well known that everyone knows it. So I searched "how to identify pitch by ear" and it took me to Rick's channel with his son and when I was finished watching, I was speechless. It was one of the most incredible talents I have ever seen. Like watching Bach or Beethoven or Mozart as a child. A prodigy by definition. So I subbed and craved more of them. And then the rest was history
Beato is a treasure here in Atlanta and you Lee are a great interviewer. You give space for the person to breathe just like a good classic rock song needs to! Thanks for this. Both of you keep up the great content.
Love watching Lee do interviews. He's seems to approach them like a fan would and he always seems to steer to the personal rather than the superficial. Thanks Lee.
2 of my favorite RUclips channels together ❤️… Rick is who I wanted to be if I didn’t choose architecture in college. Lee and Rick, are my favorite RUclips folk, just SO real and genuine.
I've been subscribed to Rick's channel since he had well below a million subscribers. I've been amazed at his growth but the growth is because he's real and provides value in his music education as well as entertainment. It's a perfect crossover appeal for musicians.
Rick is smart, he could probably interview anyone in the world perfectly, and he doesn’t get nervous no matter who it is. Rick is teaching/showing us music with techniques and history so we can be more like him and ourselves
Here is what I love about Rick and his videos… As someone who has always loved and been passionate about music, but has little/no technical skill or training, I can watch his videos and feel included in the conversation even though at times he is speaking a “language” I don’t even understand. It’s almost like learning a foreign language (i.e. music theory) by immersion.
Excellent observation regarding learning music should be seen as learning a new language. Alphabet Letters are the notes, words and phrases are motifs, sentences are musical phrases, paragraphs are themes, compositions are songs or tunes.
What a great interview !!! The Anderton’s Channel and Rick’s own channel are simply two of the very best music channels on RUclips, this episode is just superb ! 😍🎸👌🔥🔥🔥
Rick is a gem. He brings such insight to music and breaks it down to such interesting detail that your average non-musical joe (like me) can appreciate. His love for music is infectious. Top guy.
I don't think people give Lee enough credit for just how good he is as an interviewer. I doesn't matter who he interviews (RUclipsrs, grunge metal players, people using modelling gear, his Dad ...), you always get a really good look at who they are and what motivates them. I don't say this as a casual observer. I also interview people, run seminars, train people etc as part of my job and considering Lee is probably(?) untrained in that area, he's a natural.
The fact that @RickBeato acknowledged the issues with external add-ons and the lack of PCI-e's on a Mac is on point. As always, love the Captain Meets videos.
This was brilliant! At around the 52:00 this was an excellent point about amp vs plugins. I had this conversation just the other day. I own a real Mesa, and I will never get rid of it as long as plugins cannot generate the same feel as an amp can. I get it - in a mix there isn't much of a difference anymore, but I get more inspiration and excitement from playing thru an amp than I do from a plugin.
Confirmed (though I am mostly on keyboards and only playing guitar some times). About the topic of getting acoustic feedback from a plugin via the studio monitors which he mentions there: that won't work because the plugin has some latency. So the feedback will be the same as if you'd try to get feedback when using a delay pedal which does not provide the original signal.
I think aside from Ricks excellent knowledge and ability to teach - another huge part of his success is his age. Hes the musician dad SO many of us across the world wished we had.
I've said it before, Lee is an excellent interviewer! So is Rick, and I followed his channel for a while as well. This feels so real, just two people truly loving what they do, and truly interested in the conversation they're having. None of them are trying to show off. Cheers, guys!
Wow, I am the seventh child of eight. And in the 60's just like Ricardo my three sisters had the Beatles on daily. Also, my brothers play on the record player hollies , hendrix, bb king, and all the mid to late 60's prog rock. So I started banging away on all percussion instruments from snare to bongos. At 16 picked up the guitar. Now at 63 I'm still playing. Thank you chuy (Jesus) for the blessing. God bless one and all.
Would have loved to have watched Rick do the $1000 challenge. When it comes to gear, he doesn't typically have a budget. So, watching him piece together something would be interesting. Where would he spend his money?
A really interesting chat. Rick Beato is a fantastic music educator and his Sting interview was exceptional, as was his breakdown of Larry Carlton’s Kid Charlemagne solo. Great to see him on the Anderton’s channel! Lee is a great interviewer - the Yolanda Charles video springs to mind for its brilliance - more of this kind of content please!
Wish i had Rick's ability to see the best in a song especially these days. Obviously this comes from his abilities as a producer when he has to look at the music objectively. He continues to be able to listen to each song he listens to with a clear and objective mind and can still embrace new music. I gave up on new music as grunge and rap and pop music took over in 90s.
When Rick teaches music theory it flies over my head, but when he talks about anything else I find him to be one of the greatest teachers around. He has so much background in all aspects of making music that he can teach all of it and his understanding of how it all works and literally "what makes this song great" as well as the why is possibly unmatched, or maybe it's more his ability to relate all that to us. In any case check out his videos. You will be glad you did.
When Rick went to Abbey Road I knew some awesome interviews in England were coming up. This is great, thanks Lee and Rick for this treat. Now if Rick happened to stumble upon Guthrie Govan as well (Lees interview with him gets replayed regularly here already)...
Great interview. What Rick says about session musicians playing on famous records is very true. As Bernard Purdie said, ''There were 4 drummers used on the Beatles recordings and Ringo wasn't one of them''. Bernard himself played on 21 of them.
Please tell me that this meeting didn’t occur on the 30th March… I called into Andertons for browse around whilst passing through Guildford on my way home to North Wales. Long time subscriber to both channels.
There is no joy in playing the guitar with a bad sound and the opposite is very true when you are getting great tones, it can be mesmerizing and almost hypnotic.
Much as I admire Rick Beato (the man is a genius) and has a gift beyond understanding ,I do NOT wish to read music as I have a natural propensity for melody and writing music(not famous NO lol).I don't want the 'mystery of it to vanish knowing theory. Smashing interview Captain Anderton!
I read many of the comments and agree with them all. Watching Rick's interviews and listening to his guests (which Rick lets them run with it) I want to break out my drums or guitar...but as I get up to go get them, I sadly realize I do not own any musical instruments and have never played any! But watching Ricks and his guests, Bernard Purdie for a great example, makes me want to play. I now listen and hear so much more in my life long favorite music. From Steely Dan, REM, to Queen, because of Rick and his guests.
This episode should be called "What Makes Rick Beato Great". Excellent interview, what a knowledgable and interesting guy.
This is great. I know their format is "The Captain meets whoever" but it would be cool if they changed this one.
RIck should do a video on "What Makes a Music Store Great". Seriously, I've been in hundreds of music instrument stores and some of them have been absolutely fantastic and others complete dogs. I would love to see a great video on the breakdown of what the big differences are.
Rick doesn't get nervous because he see's them ALL as people; not famous people.
That's why these "Famous" people respect him and his fans as well.
