Ben, you nailed this review and your video is the only one at the moment that can convince people to buy this camera. With your video I can really see the difference between this new lens and the X2, and the bump in quality. Now I am interested in this lens, so thank you! Honestly I have been extremely disappointed in other tech youtubers on that one, such as Potato Jet or Matti Haapoja. You can tell they are not into small cameras at all, and in their review they were barely trying. They used super average 360 shots supposed to prove the amazing quality, and almost no color grading, therefore convincing nobody. If I was Insta360 I would be pissed at them for the poor review. They keep mentioning the old features such as "you can edit on your phone, amazing", or explaining the magic of the invisible selfie stick. Your review has concrete face to face comparisons with other cameras and clearly with all the years of reviewing 360 cameras, you know what you're doing and how to compare cameras.
Appreciate it! Yeah a lot of them are sponsored for their videos so they have to over-hype basic features every time. Glad you can see through it though 😁
OMG, I just got my Insta360 ONE RS and now comes the latest generation, the Insta360 ONE RS 1-Inch 360. I feel like I want to have the latest one with a very impressive upgrade
Thanks Ben! But… long continous recordings vs overheating and shutdowns? Real life battery life for long continous recording with different resolutions? My original ONEX managed about 60min… but lately for some reason it shuts down after like 10-20min. My ONEX2 managed over an hour👍🏻 Is the closest focus distance as bad as the 1” Wide Angle mod? (Any action closer to the lens is not in focus).
The battery for this new rig is TINY. This is the biggest problem with this setup. It basically has the smallest battery of all the prior 360 cameras made. Its a smaller battery than the normal One R red battery. You would have to rig up a battery connected to the bottom that thing WITHOUT the little weird case thing on it. They now need to release a better battery module for the vertical setup, like maybe a longer one, then they need a different case thing for all that.... its just this weird road they are going down with this being modular. I will probably get 2 batteries and swap them out and when one is not in use, its getting charged, but this is not doable for many situations where I cannot swap mid shot. Most of what I do is busy action and I do not want to say, ok everyone, stop for like 5 minutes while I swap batteries ok, uuuuuummmmm no, that really doesnt work. I need a big battery and this does not do that. So, its 2 steps forward 1 back, its forward alright, but my god, its not solid progress. I mean, I bought it, cant wait, but I just know I will suffer. Come on gopro, show them all how its done - you used to be a leader.
People still never touch on the overheating and shutdown issues. They just get ignored in the comments. I get so annoyed with the oneR only being able to do short videos before overheating and losing the last stored video. They never mention this being an issue before you drop your money down on it. That being said it seems to have improved with the latest firmware, or maybe the weather is just cooler 😂
I'm on the market for a new 360 cam and am torn between the RS 1" and the Theta X. I primarily do Matterport tours with the occasional Zillow. It also seems like the RS 1" is being discontinued... (any word on that?) Which would be best to go with?
Nice camera but for sport I think it's too big and fragile, and I can't see replace cover lens for the moment so or I there is to use a case to protect the lens that decrease the quality of videos or I risk to scratch lens.. am I right? do you know any accessories should come up with it?
You are the absolute best when it comes to 360 cameras. This review confirmed my thoughts and I'll get it for sure. I have been waiting for a good 360 camera for over 5 years now. I think this is it
Dear Ben! Please help. INSTA360 ONE RS 1inch or Theta X.Which of the these cameras will be the better solution for VT. 360 one inch - bright lens, large sensor, DNG or Theta ZX with high resolution. I have no problem with further editing of photos in LR / PS. I don't want to use the Z1 because its interface is driving me crazy
Great video. Which selfie stick did you use with the 1-inch 360? Their website states that the tripod version is not compatible with the 1-inch version. ???
Ben, Thank you for a great review! I use my One R mostly with the Leica 1 inch sensor because of the video quality. Happy that now I can stick up two 1 inch sensors on One R for 360 videos instead of the original 360 mod!
Im assuming x3 will have this lens on an x2 sized cam..that is also waterproof and non modular and thus simpler or is this lens too big and the x3 will have to be as big and wide as this ( assuming it has same lens)
@Ben Claremont - I am kinda confused on best approach.... I just broke my One X (yes, the dive case is not water sealed, when the fog insert is caught in the rubber gasket = bubbles 😱) So I need a new 360 cam.... But could be intrigued by going the modular RS way... But for it to make sense (over just buying a X2), it should be the 1-inch edition... Now the question, what is the best way, if I also want the shoot flat? Buying the 1-inch 360, and also a cam module (4k or 1"), but then I also need the Battery Base and Mounting bracket... Or would going the other way be better??? Or just get the twin edition and wait for adding 1-inch 360 to later.... (or just get the X2 and forget about flat?? But the price difference between X2 and RS-Twin edition is VERY small) 🤷🏼♂🤷🏼♂🤷🏼♂
You are the most thorough when it comes to 360 reviews. Great video. I checked out a couple of other videos prior and they just don't come close to providing the info that you do. Thanks!
oh I meant to ask what's with the blown out skies? and how long does the battery last? That bridge shot was overblown in the sky in the 1inch but ok in the normal. video (ledt side). Thanks in advance.
I'm getting a black vertical line when I import footage from Insta360 rs 1 inch into premiere, do you have any advice? having to import it in Insta360 Studio can't properly produce and colour VR or reframed experiences, it affects the quality when I have to then import into premiere and try to mix it into 4k UHD video. The quality loss is going to be high.
Great video, im about to launch my virtual tour business and i was saving for a z1 to start to then upgrade to the matterport camara would you recommend this camara over a z1 to start?

Nice review. Thanks! A quick question though. One R 360 in vertical configuration is very flimsy and required the reinforcement in a form of Ulanzi or whatever case. How about this 1-inch 360 variant? How reliable that factory casing is?
Wonder if this version gives relatively experiential similar results (compared to the pro versions) for VR headsets once image has been cropped into for the medium?
Hello Ben! Super vids, thanks a lot. I am video recording different streets in our area to upload them to Google Street View (GSV Studio, 3DVista etc.). I am using the Ricoh Theta Z1 for this. But I'm not satisfied of the results. My vids (after reworking them in the Ricoh Stitching app) are not sharp and look 'mushy'. Should I take the step to get me an 360 One RS 1-INCH 360 EDITION? Has this cam a generic GPS? Or should I continue to use a tablet with GPS-logger as I have to do with the Z1. Not an easy task as sometimes the Z1 recording and the GPS-logger are shifted in time (more than 1" and GSV Studio gives a warning). Hi Ben, can you please compare this ti the Theta x, they have similar price but different specs, so which is better for virtual tour? I have a z1 but it’s battery is drawing to fast and I’m looking for a replacement that is cheaper but good enough. Thanks
hello I would like to ask you for advice I saw this QooCam 8K Enterprise professional model on the net, according to your experience which of the 2 models would you recommend to buy?
Does it work with Matterport? I read on their website that is not compatible yet but seen a video from Instra360 with some Matterport users working with it
Thanks for another great review I am disappointed that this camera has No GPS. Therefore it is of no use for meterverse, or Google Street view integrations. Also if I was to buy the Sphete is it possible to interchange the module's?
I want record videos while riding my bike of the scenery around me....sides, front, back....NO GIMICK top view though. Is this the best one? And how would I attach it to my bike? Above helmet or handle bars?
I was going to buy the One X2 but read somewhere that X3 may be coming out later this year. Would you recommend I wait for the X3? This one looks great but not waterproof. I’ll be mainly using it for paddle boarding. Just can’t decide which model.
Currently using the Z1 for creating GSV. Would the new Insta360 One RS be a good replacement? Which interval options are available? Using this camera for 360 video, I do miss the option to record ambisonic sound, While video quality is of course important, I don't understand why insta360 did not include that option as sound is equally important. Maybe better wait for the X3 and hope insta360 brings the same sensor size to that version.
I'm about to buy this camera and was wondering if you know what the output file is when you shoot in HDR mode? Would you exposure bracket your shots manually or would you just use HDR for a customer?
How about "lens-fogging" and max.time recording before it get heated up? I have experienced on my Insta360 one R dual camera mode easily get "fogging" when using it for moto-vlogging, it takes about 10-12min.to start lens fogging
Quick question gang... got the RS-1, incredible video. get this camera. Question: how do we set the point of view (initial) for 360 video. I tried keyframe in Insta App but it appears 360 export ignore all framing. Is there a way to set the initial point of view. Thanks all....... In the Theta app they call this the home position
Hey gang. i looked for days and as soon as i posted this, i think i found an answer. i was going to delete this but i figure others might be interested.. ruclips.net/video/XN91zipic1c/видео.html Is there anyway to do this insta360 app?
Nice review again Ben 👍. if you don’t mind, I have a question about charging battery. How many way of charging? Can you charge only battery by itself using a cable or do you have to charge through RS core which mean you must connect RS core and battery first then connect cable to RS core to charge? Because I don’t like the RS core heated unnecessarily while charging.
Another great presentation. One thing I’d like to explore is night sky Timelapse. Also what kind of PC would be best for post processing. Also any info on VR headsets that relates to this kit.
I don't know if you've tried the Planix from Planitar. It uses the Ricoh Theta Z1, but it doesn't use any of the software, only the cameras sensor. the images are insane. So so good. You screw the Theta Z1 to the top of the Planix (which also has a laser mapping system) and plug in a USB C to the bottom as well. The images are so much better than just the Theta Z1 alone. They look almost twice as good.
😀
Why no comparison with One X2?

Z1 definitely better
Thanks for reviewing! Definitely will upgrade from ONE X2 to this.
Good morning, Ben! Does this camera get very hot? Is there a waterproof case for it? Well, I scuba dive. Thanks!
I'm about to buy this camera and was wondering if you know what the output file is when you shoot in HDR mode? Would you exposure bracket your shots manually or would you just use HDR for a customer?
It blends the HDR together in the desktop/mobile app and you can choose the file format
thank you for this great review! can i ask you what "long" selfie stick do you use for this heavier than the ONE X2?
How about "lens-fogging" and max.time recording before it get heated up? I have experienced on my Insta360 one R dual camera mode easily get "fogging" when using it for moto-vlogging, it takes about 10-12min.to start lens fogging
how does it compare to the Ricoh Z1 51G ?
Thanks for the review Ben. What's the minimum focus distance on this camera?
Will test further but I’d say around 20cm
Hugh Hou put the 1" 360 edition into a beehive and thinks that the minimum focus distance is 40cm
How do you think it compares to the Qoocam 8K? I'm considering selling my Qoocam if this matches the video quality
Glad I waited. I nearly got the x2
Great video. Appreciate all the time and effort producing this level of quality 💪.
Great review Ben (as usual). Helped alot. Take care. Greetings from Sweden.
What selfie stick are you useing?
Link in description
Will buy when they come out with 8K.
We gonna need 10k it's still not great quality. Original quality was trash, now it's just OK.
Facts!!! Not impressive.
One trade fast workflow for less photo quality
Hi, Ben. Great review but, could you also compare this to the Quocam 8K, if you have it?
How much heavier is it than the one x2
A bit but it’s still not heavy
Also any info on VR headsets that relates to this kit.
would this be good for interviewing people planning on starting a channel
For sure
Greetings from Singapore ben!
Keep it coming!
How about overheating - how long it can record? Can it be charged from powerbank?
Increased low light performance
I don't know if you've tried the Planix from Planitar. It uses the Ricoh Theta Z1, but it doesn't use any of the software, only the cameras sensor. the images are insane. So so good. You screw the Theta Z1 to the top of the Planix (which also has a laser mapping system) and plug in a USB C to the bottom as well. The images are so much better than just the Theta Z1 alone. They look almost twice as good.
Been waiting all day for this
