- First drive in the NEW Abarth 595 Esseesse. I got to drive the newest flagship car from abarth and see what it was like. The Abarth 595 Esseesse sits at the top of the Abarth range and also sits higher than the 595 competizione. As part of Abarths 70th anniversary it has a very nice 70th abarth stitching in the carbon sabelt seats alongside a side brushed aluminium plaque and the akrapovic exhaust. What about the price of the 595 esseesse?

I swapped my Abarth 500 for a BMW 1 Series with some dude on Facebook.
That BMW had a dodgy engine. Ended up selling that thing and lost a lot of money because of it. Lesson learned. Don’t swap your Abarth on Facebook.

I must admit I prefer the sound of the Akrapovic exhaust over the others in the 595 range. I'm also loving all of the carbon on display!!!

Open the hatch, behind the engine there is a plug , Unplug it.
The valve will not be controled anymore.
Because even in sport mode , the valve closes sometimes ( first and second gear)

Aside from badging, wheel colour & the exhaust, no difference between a Comp with the PP?
It comes with the LSD as standard rather than buying it as an optional extra on the comp

I feel like the exhaust noise has been hit by the WLTP exhaust emissions it definitely doesn't sound as good as it used to however that could be the difference between everyone's recording equipment on youtube

Am I correct in saying these can be mapped to around 230bhp 280ftlbs as it comes out of the box?
Correct. With the 1446 turbo it’s capable of 230 with an intake and intercooler. As is can be mapped to over 200bhp with no additional mods
Stef ABtv that’s the beauty with these things. The only thing that lets this car down is the power from factory, but a few mods make it a serious weapon. I like to think of it as Jekyll and Hyde..
The problem with the seating position is that there's no wheel adjust to bring the wheel closer which ends up with you sitting in a funny position if you want room to heel and toe, this on top of the fact that you sit very high in it (because it's a super mini as standard not a sports car) makes for an awful driving position. That said, they are quick, with nearly 200bhp the 0-60 time betrays how fast they can feel through the gears, they struggle off the line because of limited weight over the front wheels (the engine is pretty light) so are actually faster when they have in gear traction than the 0-60 time shows.

Same 1.4 turbo. Comp and esseesse have a better turbo though
The pop and bang exhaust is on top of my shit list, all cars now sound the same because they are all fast, muted and requires an exhaust with fake pops and bang mapped into one of the twenty driving settings. I am now an advocate of electric cars because the internal combustion engine is dead, certainly the NA engine. Sorry for my moaning Stef I am grieving, I still enjoy your fantastic journalism and your enthusiasm to our dying hobby.
Mate stupid question but what's the main difference under the skin between this and a 595 COMPETIZIONE 177 BHP as I hoping to get 595 but on a limited budget and they look very similar in the brakes suspension and power department cheers Marco Ps love all the Abarth stuff you do don't stop !!! lol

I think I’d struggle to chop my 595 comp with performance pack in for one of these, as cool as they look. £25k is a lot. The PP gives you everything you need, the exhaust is the only difference I’m spying 🤔
If you have PP then you already have the diff so you are best keeping the comp.

Another great video mate. I still need to go in a spin in a Abarth 500/595. Even in the price is above 25 grand, it is still s good price. Just the amount of carbon fibre like you said and a few more specs...makes the car worth the money. And if in the UK people find these cars expensive...go buy one in Portugal then. Lol. You are still paying 13,000€ to 17,000€ for a 2009 Abarth 500/595. An Abarth Grande Punto is still ranging 11,000€. I just love this car.

Once again a “new” Abarth, comprising the old one, with added bits of plastic, some badges and an aftermarket exhaust. Sad to see such a lack of investment in a fantastic brand.
But it does have an LSD fitted as standard, and that's significant. Not sure if suspension setup is upgraded like in previous Esseesse packages though. But I agree, they're a one trick pony at the moment, now that they've pulled the 124. They should be building their range, not cutting it.

It's avaliable on the comp in the performance pack as are the carbon back sabelts. You can also buy the akra exhaust from Abarth. So essentially you are getting some stitching in the seats plastic badges and some white wheels.
@@jmacca4493 because they're fitted as standard, not an option. Of course they're not free either but the price is yet to be announced.
It still looks much better than the one that we get here in the States.

in the US they still show the 2018 abarth on the fiat website and there has been zero inventory in Phoenix and Chicago for 6 months. my guess, they're out of the US market.

If I jumped in to that, it would be no difference to my comp. I took the c4 out and so much power and speed. Puts the Abarth with its front wheels over its headlights in embarrassment. Just like a puppy with its paws over its ears.
Disappointing as it’s literally a comp with a different badge with a £4K price increase. Would have hoped the car was more different

Problem is it sounds like the next car will be electric. They will keep this platform going with some minor updates along the way, but it already feels out of date. How long can they keep peddling it? I say this as a huge fan of the brand!!

Greg Lamb absolutely but the issue is more fundamentally the hardware. It’s a chassis that’s old now, still has a five speed manual when it should have had a six speed years ago. I’m not knocking them, I love them, I’m just concerned with Fiat as a whole at the moment.
I really think abarth need to make a bit more effort, there's really nothing new on this one aside from a few trim changes, parts bin special. Great car of course but can't they just add something really new and interesting to the mix?

Alan, why should they? The 595 will always be a car you love or hate, it doesn't need that technical revolution... It's a small hot hatch made for having fun, it's a timeless car. Putting all the new technologies in it will make it loose his character. You may think I'm crazy but I ordered the new esseesse and I'm going to sell my 2018 Leon Cupra...Why? Because there is no real emotion while driving the Cupra, I could never establish a relationship with it. It is a perfect car, very reliable, full of new technologies... But I want to drive with a smile on my face.Took the Abarth for 5 minutes and I knew I would buy it...

Omg racing seats high performance exhaust for a 180hp car that’s comical this is a 20s 1/4 mi car but seems much much longer in the car.
Not all about 1/4 miles. If you wanted to do a quarter mile you wouldn’t buy this car. You would buy Turbo S 👀
My wife got the 595 Abarth Turismo last year which she loves, after watching this review of the Esseesse and @stefabtv stating it will be over 25K I went on the Abarth site, and in my honest opinion you'd be better getting the COMPETIZIONE with the performance pack, adding the pack gives you a better car at a lower price and the 70th anniversary logo and seat stiching come on all this years Abarth range.
