    Break into a house and steal items to the value of £1000, and the judge will slap your wrists and might give you a couple months in the nick. Or you'll do some hours of community service.
    Steal a £30,000+ car, and the judge will slap your wrists and you'll have to report to the Police station once a week.
    Unfortunately, there is nothing in the UK to frighten and put off car thieves from stealing cars. The law needs to change to address that. And we also have to get rid of these soft, leftist judges who always want to give the "naughty person" a 10th, 19th or 45th (Whatever!) chance to change their bad ways.

    Physical security is a brilliant deterrent. Disklok are great.

    The issue (at least in America and specifically Texas) is the nature of how car theft occurs has changed. When car theft occurs here its commonly thieves rolling up with a flat-bed or chain-hook tow truck and snatching your car, videos have shown it can take them less than 5 min to perform. They then haul the whole thing off to their shop to dismantle for parts on their own time or refit and resell it. Also to onlookers it appears much less suspicious, maybe you're just getting your car towed to a shop, than someone sneaking around your car for 5-10 minutes trying to figure it out. Because of this, steering wheel boots/electronic kill switches/etc. dont really work anymore. If someone really wants to steal your vehicle, they will. The best you can do is get 2 tracking systems and have them installed at different points or opposite ends of the car, so if one is found and removed the other one isn't.

    My EsseEsse is fitted with a BlockBox on the ECU and had its OBD port armored, along with the standard alarm. It’s currently the best deterrent, although it won’t save it from being towed away: that’s what the insurance is for.

    I believe the Abarth 595 vulnerability is via the OBDII port so if you get creative and reposition/ hide/ cover/ disable the port you can probably prevent the theft in the first place.

    Thanks to this video I got a Mopar Connect box installed. However there is a caveat. If thieves disconnect the battery of the car, the box stops working. You need to get an auxiliary battery installed which is purely dedicated to keeping the Mopar Connect alive. Something FCA should have maybe considered.

    Hadn't driven in 6 years and bought an Abarth in January, dreamed of owning one for years. Three weeks ago it was stolen. We tracked it and went to steal it back! But the seats had been taken, and petrol cap and gear knob replaced with stock ones, to add insult to injury... it was enough to write it off. Unfortunately the payout is much lower than where the market has inflated to so I won't be owning one again for the foreseeable. Completely devastated.

    Old school hidden pump switch is best or but the fake odb port and extend yours to somewhere else.

  • @S2000Y
    @S2000Y 5 лет назад +2

    A bit of a misleading title, this won't stop your car from being stolen but will enable you to track it, providing they don't disconnect the battery. There are better tracking systems out there, and a disc Lok always helps.

    These little cars dont strike me as ideal getaway vehicles and doubt they would be able to sell them. Strange target these.

    Having owned a number of prestige cars and now a modified Abarth by far the best security system I have come across is by a company called StarLine. Bluetooth activated immobiliser with a lifetime tracker plus shock and tilt sensors. In ANY scenario you know what’s happened to the car and you’ll be notified. I’ll be at C&M on Sunday Stef can talk more if you’re interested...

    Had my 595c stolen 3 weeks ago... No idea how they got into it but they used the OBD port to drive it away. Luckily found it parked in a residential street a couple miles away 2 weeks later... They'd removed the battery, it was unlocked and they'd taken some bits out. Assuming they were leaving it to kill off any tracker etc. Am now in the market for some 'real' security but not sure this MOPAR sounds like a proper deterrent as a Dislok would give!

    • @StefABtv
      @StefABtv  5 лет назад

      Sorry to hear that :( yep a disc lock will definitely make it harder to steal. Coupled with something like mopar connect or another similar system will make it even harder

    Yeah, this car is awesome Stef. I've also got one 595 esseesse in Iridato White, Carbon-ara package, beats etc. So the best will be to buy this mopar connect system to save the car better!! Great Vid as always. :-)

      Pandora you can add more things to the system

    • @marcmulholland596
      @marcmulholland596 4 года назад

      @@StefABtv Thank you. I have invested in a highly recommended steering lock for now. Both options seem expensive as Mopar is a subscription service on top of the cost of the box I believe. Can't find info on that online so it is a case of going down to the dealership to enquire. Pandora's recommended security options start at £1000 fitted with the discount for being a member of the Abarth owners club.
      Love the idea of a tracker but don't want a noisy alarm. I live in a rural area. Car is parked on a driveway down a remote lane. We have CCTV and motion sensors that turn the lights on outside.
      You can get fairly cheap portable trackers that you can hide discreetly out of sight in the vehicle that are traceable on the accompanying app so surely it would be just a matter of calling the police and keeping them informed of where the stolen vehicle is heading assuming they can respond quickly enough.
      If only there was one option for total peace of mind. I had my last Abarth for four years with no-one attempting to steal it. I didn't even have a steering lock.
      Having upgraded to a Competizione it seems the chances of it being stolen are more likely.
      If I had a much more expensive car I think I would be prepared to spend more on the security side of things. I may change my mind. Both options sound good. Pandora alarms would be a one-off payment but they're not even Thatcham certified which the steering lock is and loud car alarms are often ignored.

  • @trevorlucas5080

    Great product, but having a kill switch so the car won't start until it is back on, plus an alarm that sounds as loud as those train horns you can buy if the car is moved if the kill switch isn't put on surely would help, if something is making such a racket they will leave.
