that toyota 60 series,,why doesnt it have floating axles.. ??..they all do in aus.. if axle brakes,,doesnt matter..plus, there supposed to break at the hub,,not half way in,,design..here toyota people think they last forever,, so they never service them, then the gearbox blows, lack of oil, drained into transfer.. axle leaves, bearing sht.. diesels only have 90kw.. excellent..

When you lose a axle like that, you can leave the wheel on the vehicle, disassemble the hi-lift and place the bar across the wheel well, tied off to the slider and a part of the rear / rear bumper. This will keep the wheel/axle assembly in place and the vehicle can at least then roll. This is a common recovery technique for a broken axle.

It works. My friend didn’t use a high lift, but instead we used a 5’ stick, of 2 inch pipe. We tied both ends of the ratchet straps to the frame. The trick was not overtightening the ratchet straps so that the wheel would spin semi-freely enough past the pipe and not pull the pipe down.

oh what a feeling. should've used his drag chain to attach the sled, also a good idea to remove the brake baking plate stuff some rag up the axle tube and tape some plastic over the end of the axle tube.
another tip is carry a short length of chain say 2 or 3 feet, some long bolts, some thick washers made out of 10mm/3/8 flat bar the chain will save your backside you can use the bolts to tighten the chain and clamp a steering box back to a frame, hold a motor or trans down if a mount breaks, hold a track bar, control arm, drag link etc together or even a skid. so many uses for for a universal adjustable heavy duty clamp.

We cut a longer green spruce, set the axle on the fat end, tied the skinny end to the back of my truck and pulled him about 15 km to a road.
With me pulling, and his rear drive still working, was easy.

Figured there would have been a different way to attach the spare to the hub somehow, even without power to that wheel, and balance better and be able to roll easier at least. Great vid, though. Cool ingenuity.

I would have left the wheel and axle in place, taken the hi-lift apart and put the bar across the face of the wheel/tire, tied off to the slider and rear bumper. That keeps the wheel / axle from coming out of the housing and you can roll back to tarmac. Pretty common technique for a broken axle

Not sure if that song about Toy Sledders was something you made or not but that was a fantastic addition. Great video as always
