For the hatches, don't leave them closed - air them out so they dry in the sun after use. I have a Whaler - but my next boat is going to be a Robalo because of the Yami outboard.
My 246 is awesome too! One minor observation - I did find the two drains under the rumble seat, but found that only the starboard drain on my boat had a hose to drain to the bilge. The port drain under the rumble seat on my 246 the hose was missing from factory. I ran 5/8" hose from that drain so it doesn't drain/ splash onto my battery charger. Appreciate all your Robalo 246 Cayman videos! Thanks
I AGREE. I sold my 2016 246 and regret it every day! I researched and looked at every bay boat for 2 years before buying the 246.... Everglades, SeaPro, SeaHunt, Key West, etc. By far Robalo the best bay boat I have owned. Heavy boat but cuts through waves... best boat I have owned. I have had 5+ boats... so have had a few. Best boat!
Commet and soft scrub cleaner works well. Dry boat off after washing and leave all hatches open to dry completely. That may help with mildew. At least that’s what we do and never really have to much issue. Your always going to get a little if stored outside. Use dry towels or sponges to soak up any puddles of water where it may not drain out all the way. Best advice I can give.
... As far as the anchor marking up the underside of the lid, get a heavy duty sponge or piece of foam the correct thickness (or cut it to fit) and either hot glue it to the underside of the lid or set it on the edge of the anchor that is hitting the lid so that when the lid is closed it does two things, stops the scratching and puts a bit of pressure to hold the anchor on place. . Nice Boat! Jeff
The one I had was in a dark grey bottle. Maybe a max strength or something. I remember when they first came out they were yellow I think. Worked really good on my skiff. Wet up a little bit first then spray on and let sit in sun light with lids open and spray down ten to twenty min later. Picking up my very own 226 tomorrow. Can’t wait.
you sold me! I just picked mine up in Jacksonville. We are going to take it out today for some break-in hours. One question I have is, where did you mount your fire extingusher?
@@GULF2BAY Have you installed a VHF radio? If so, where did you install it? I plan on buying one next week. There is room to flush mount it below the throttle but that may get in the way. I also am looking at mounting in the overhead box, however I'm not completely happy about drilling thru the fiberglass.
Yes, we are scheduling a Bimini trip this summer. Just like all bay boats you have to pick your days. I take mine out regularly 20 to 30 miles out in the gulf and I took it out to the Humps off the Marathon key this pass summer. The boat handle 2 to 3 very good. It does get a little wet sometimes in a cross wind. The big thing to look at when deciding to go out or not is the wave period. If the wave period is really close 2 to 3 seconds I would not go out in 3 foot seas. but i would go out in 4 ft seas is the wave period is 8 seconds. (swells)
@@GULF2BAY I have an 8 lb anchor with chain and 100 foot rope. On my 21' boat. I don't have a Robalo though. I just cut out the anchor side rod holders and place my anchor inside the anchor locker on a rubber pad.
Just sold my cayman 246 glad to get rid of it ! The coyote trailer is ABSOLUTE JUNK my axle bearing also went out the first year . The self tapping bolts that screw in from the bottom on the bunks were a 1/4 inch to long they came thru the bunks and did 8000.00 damage to the hull !All of the tires are the cheap CHINESE trailer tires i had two of them blow on the interstate . The front deck had air pockets in the fiberglass that had to be repaired . the paint on the tower was coming off the screws that were bolted to the deck from the t top came loose ! All of the vinyl was STAINED from spray on sunscreen could not remove it . The good remarks about the boat is the 300 YAMMIE never gave me any trouble . i had the boat 4 years put 400 hours on the motor not one bit of trouble . The boat ate up lake erie was glad for the 9 ft beam a couple of times on the ocean .
You need to get a can of "Bar Keepers Friend". Im telling you it takes out anything on a boat. Mildo, rust stains, blood stains you name it. Get the one for stainless. it works the best.
@@GULF2BAY Cool. I had a bx 22 and i really like it. Of course every boat has it down falls but thats just to be expected. Do you have a picture of it?

Drill holes in jack stand plate. Then paint or rusteolium. That’s from saltwater puddling
Where did you get bait dip net and mount for lid of live well?
Walmart- command strip broom holder. Think they are $12 for two.
Where did you get the bracket that is holding you minnow net?

I ran heater hose from drains to bilge, and from cup holders up front that would drain into storage now drain into bilge
Love my 246… and ever person I’ve ever taken out on it says that it is quite possibly the best laid out bay boat they have ever been on.
I agree

That’s a very honest review. That is a good quality boat. I will own one in two years.
Back ordered?

Thanks, I have some Commet cleaner at the house. I’m going to give it a try
Keep empty soda plastic bottles around with lids on tight and use them as a wedge to keep the hatches open and prevent mildew

Thanks for the Idea
Marine 31 will take care that mildew. Really great products
I bought a seaclaw 12# anchor, it fits by cutting the stock and holds better than any Ive used. It is not cheap though...
I have really good luck with the CLR mold and mildew remover.
Is that in a yellow bottle

@@timothyagius3660 I use a hand held. On my last boat I installed it in the dash but wished I had a radio box to install it in.
How does it do in the open water? Would you feel comfortable taking it from Miami to the Bimini islands?

Get a Mantus Anchor. I am in South Florida. It locks down the boat real nice.

how it holding now in 2023?
Funny that you asked that. I was just thinking about doing another video. I will do a video this week and try to post it on Friday or Saturday

You should try going to a pool supply store. They might have a stronger bleach.
WHAR IS THE NET HOLDER USED ON THE LIVE WELL LID
I got it from Walmart. Brome holder command strip. Best 5 bucks I have spent. Holds the net perfectly

Still liking it? When you changed out the rod/cup holder, did you see any wood in the cap?
I Did not see any wood.
Great video. Those not fenders from bass pro look perfect. Haven’t been able to find them online. Can you share the name or the link?
Let me see if I can find them online. I bought mine in the store

Formula 303 for the seats

Did the dealer have anything to say about the cracks in the deck inside the console/head compartment?
No, I didn’t bring it up. I need to though
What brand / model jack plate does ROBALO put on the Cayman?
It’s a atlas jack plate, I’m not sure about the offset but it can travel 6” (up and down)

When I bought mine it was around 90k from Robalo but then added 12k of equipment myself. However they have had a 7% increase since Covid
