    Watching in Sept 2023. Have 113k on 2011 LX. My a/c works and cools. But some times not. It works on and off. This summer in Tx was bad. What do you think my issues are? Compression valve, Condenser, compressor, low Freon, fan relay and things??? Thanks dude

      I was having the same isssues on my 2011 sx with Over 220k miles. It was a control valve located on the ac compressor. Part was only $60 and I did it myself. I’d bet you have the same issue.

    Did you pull this used compressor yourself or was it already pulled? I'm just curious if these junkyards evacuate the systems so you can safely take a/c components off

    @Fixitish. I have a 2012 Kia optima and I’m doing this same job on my daily driver. I also have another problem since this vehicle moved to street parking only (Chicago) a 4 years back. The actuator to switch my airflow from floor vents to face vents is no longer working. It would be great if you did a video on this. I’ve searched and I can’t find anything that will help for our generation Kia Optima. Thanks.

    Saving this for later. Any timestamp for the start of replacing the compressor?

  • @petegenest6085

    If the compressor goes bad, don't you have to flush out the hoses? If there are any small metal pieces it will ruin your new compressor and condenser?

    • @fixitish
      @fixitish  Год назад

      If the compressor goes bad and is damaged internally then yes you would need to flush any parts that weren’t being replaced.

    I'm planning on having a local shop evacuate the coolant out of my A/C so I can drive it home and change the condenser, the expansion valve, and the electronic control valve ("clutch") on the compressor. After I'm done, I'll bring the car back to the shop to have them do the vacuum test and recharge with new coolant. Do you think driving the car after the coolant has been evacuated (even if I don't use the A/C) could damage the compressor? I ask because I noticed the compressor is attached to the pulley belt, so it will always be spinning whether it is on or not....

    • @fixitish
      @fixitish  Год назад +1

      No it will not damage the compressor. It’s the same as if you drove the car with the ac off. The compressor will not be engaged unless the valve make it come on which it won’t since there won’t be any charge in the system.

      @@fixitish thanks man! My car has 155k on it. Should I just change the compressor as well? Would hate for this compressor to eventually die (already has 155k on it) and I have to replace condenser again cuz of the debris from bad compressor.

    I have a 2015 and it says under the hood it takes 5.50. Im using an a/c machine and maybe not thinking about it correct but that seems like to much R134. I recovered .60
    I ended up putting 1.80 in the system. My gauges are 30 to 45 psi low side and 200 to 280 psi high side. Is that good? Its cooling very good so i left it.

    • @fixitish
      @fixitish  Год назад

      When I looked it up it was 19oz and 1.80lbs is 28oz which is on the higher side I’d try and take some out. Depending on how the weather is where you are will change those pressures as well.

      I add it to the compressor and the condenser since I replaced both. Technically you can add it anywhere in the system but if you replaced the compressor you want to add it there so it doesn’t run dry on first start up.

    I have the same Car, same color and same ac issues. Lol
    I took it to an auto mechanic and he quoted 2500 to replace compressor, condenser and expansion valve with AC service. It says Ac compressor has failed causing metal contamination to the system.
    Did your car have that contamination too ?

    • @fixitish
      @fixitish  2 года назад +1

      Lol I rarely see this color on these cars. lol No I didn’t have any metal in the system. I got lucky it stopped working before it went bad internally. When it fails the way yours did those parts need to be replaced and have the lines flushed out before the new parts go on

    • @fixitish

      Yes I added some pag oil to the condenser. I believe the total capacity for the ac system is 4oz so I only added about 1oz maybe less the the condenser

    Greetings, I have my 2017 Kia Optima and I had to change the line because a hole was made in it and I need to know if when gassing it I have to add the oil or just the gas because it lost the gas when the hole was made. Does the compressor conserve the oil or does it have to be added when the gas is going to be added?

    • @fixitish
      @fixitish  7 месяцев назад +1

      You can just replace the line and charge the system again without adding any oil. It may have lost a little oil when It leaked the gas but bit enough for it to be an issue.

    How did you get the clutch to engage to add the refrigerant

    • @fixitish
      @fixitish  Год назад

      You first pull a vacuum on the ac system. After that you can add the first can of r143a with the car off. It should take almost all of that can, with that first bit you put in it will turn on the compressor when you start the car and turn the ac on. Then you can add the rest of it. If it doesn’t turn on make sure you didn’t forget to connect any plugs you may have disconnected

  • @macknumber9

    Do you have to have the car running and a/c on while recharging or can you do it with the engine off?

    • @fixitish
      @fixitish  2 года назад +1

      Initially when you add the first of it you don’t have to have to car running.you will notice that you won’t hear it going into the lines any longer then for it to take in the rest of the total amount you will have to turn it on and have it running.

      @fixitish  2 года назад

      Yes my condenser came complete with the dryer. I believe the capacity for the new compressor says it’s 100cc which comes out to 3oz but I’d say 4-5oz with the new condenser

    How did you conclude that the compressor was bad and the condenser?

    • @fixitish
      @fixitish  2 года назад

      I had originally changed out the compressor a year ago. After changing it I noticed that it was having cooling issues. I checked the pressures and I had blockage somewhere. Since I had already changed the compressor and the expansion valve the last piece was the condenser. This time around I knew I needed to change the condenser, as for the compressor it stopped working completely.

    • @macknumber9
      @macknumber9 2 года назад

      @@fixitish yeah you can tell a lot by pressure readings....but those compressors are noted to go bad...specifically the solenoid valve is what goes bad on them...but you did the right thing by just changing out the whole compressor
