I bought this when it came out. I was 13 and riding the "Byrne Superman train" all the way. I remember being confused that it was more of a Batman story than a Superman story, but I was cool because I I was more into Bats anyway. I also remember studying and drawing that Art Adams Superman face with the huge chin. Loved the way he drew Superman in this. Hadn't seen Superman drawn like that before except in Dark Knight. Great comic. Thanks for sharing it.

Awesome book, I had a copy of this when it first came out back in the day and now have it collected in a nice trade paperback.
Interesting side note, both John Byrne and Art Adams along with Mike Mignola, Mike Allred and Frank Miller formed Legend Comics for Dark Horse quite a few years after this.

This have been one of my favourite comics ever since I found it in a Norwegian second hand store in the early 2000s. In Norway it was part of the "Supermann" (two Ns) series and came with a back-up Batman Christmas story from the 70s by Frank Miller. I literally just re-read my original copy just a week ago.
Fun little detail: In the Norwegian version they combined several panels from page 37 & 38 shorten the overall page count when Batman stakes Skeeter. They shortened the dialogue a little and the story flows just fine that way. I didn't even realise something was missing until a few years ago when I found some photos of the original American version online.

Loved this issue as a kid and it's held up well!
Did a search and didn't see PLANETARY anywhere in your archives. Would love to watch an episode about it!

Covering some Leinil Francis Yu would be interesting. His biggest influence i think is Whilce Portacio. His peak to me is Ultimate Hulk Vs Wolverine, a miniseries that took years to finish with Damon Lindelof.

That's a great miniseries when read as a unit (I fortunately didn't have to deal with the delays).
Great character development for Ultimate Hulk/Bruce Banner while Wolverine was the standard Ultimate version: a complete asshole with some vague form of honor.
The way Lindelof portrayed the power difference between Hulk and Wolverine, and how Wolverine could hope to kill the Hulk, was pretty interesting.

16:24 a small profundity by Ed that's fact
22:02 so that's where Miller got Dwight's fingers as he sank in the La Brea tar pits

Thanks! Cool vid..really enjoyed it. Never read that story until now and it was every bit of a Swampy comic from that era. Surprised Bissette wasn't involved. I can see the ending being Batman rescued by a shooting root from Swampy instead Maybe an attempt to bring Superman into that horror-esque realm by DC?

Your “do Superman as a vampire” comment made me think that DC has at this point done DCeased (zombies) and DC vs Vampires. Not sure if Supes ends up as either a zombie or a vampire in either one but it’s possible 😆

I have 11x17 copies of the pencils from this book that Art gave me back in the day. My fav. The pencil's were better. Dick Giordano did unnecessary tweaks to mostly Batman.
