Bernie Wrightson and Ghastly Graham Engels stuff reminds me of old etchings like Albrecht Dürer. Also, the Hogarth etchings from a hundred years or so before. It's my favorite style of horror comics.

Found an affordable copy of the Image release recently and just read it two days ago, so getting to see your analysis while it’s so fresh in my mind was great. Absolutely top notch Bernie and a hell of a short horror yarn (Bruce Jones did great work, and is underrated it seems). Btw my take on the last page is that Valker is still very much alive with all the freaks sewn to him. How long he could remain alive like that is up to our imagination as readers. However it dawned on me while watching the video - these corpses are now out of the embalming fluid, so they’re gonna start stinking real quick!!!

I love the transition from page 42 to 43: from page after page of hatched rain to stark moonlit black and white shadows, from babbling drunken haze to quiet and clarity.

Thank you for recommending this book, Guys. I have read it and I very much liked it. Bruce jones gave us a beautiful story, very goud told. It gave me a good feeling of remembering reading the Creepy magazines again. Mad justice, that’s what you expect from those horror comics

On Wrightson's command of lighting: He grew up informed by those old time black and white horror masterpieces. for him horror is connected to black and white.

Thank you for reviewing this book. I've seen adds for the original, but I haven't had the opportunity to see the completed work.
That is why this is the best channel out there.

Wrightson was the man! Few artists could ever equal his technique and mastery of brush and pen. A unique talent that I sorely miss. I was honored to meet him several times at cons and he was always a humble gentleman.

Have a version of this from 1983 in Danish. My version is in color (by Michelle Wrightson). I have never seen any other copies for sale..

Hi there. Hope you two have a good Christmas. About Frankenstein, just before he passed away he did a second part. Because he wasn't well it's a collaborative effort. It doesn't come to mind with whom. You really should do both. As always great work on the video. Greetings from Germany.

Love seeing the Wrightson art here, as I was unaware of this book. Also, how about an episode on the comics of Paul Grist (Kane, Jack Staff.) Grist is such an underrated cartoonist. Thanks!

Yeah, I would love an episode on Wrightson's Frankenstein. Tim Vigil's Gothic Nights would make a good comparison vid too. Definitely Bernie and Tim's best works.
