  • This Porta Power charging box is fantastic. All the amps in and out of it you could ever want, 2 USB ports, LED screen with live info, the safety of Lithium Titanate vs Lithium Polymer, and it's freaking $160!

    I'm impressed with the details of his design ... it is well conceived and built. It sure as heck simplifies setup in the field. Excellent find Seth.

      Plenty of capacity to charge all day, USB for your Phone, USB for lights when tearing down, it fits all my needs perfectly.

      It really does, especially when you take into account how little you have to lug around for an all day charging solution. Any alternative approach would be a complete pain to pack, transport and re-setup.

    Good review! I'm in love with isdt-608 charger too. To take drone to backcountry wilderness, I've made a "4 to 1" harness from XT60 connectors and AWG12 cable and use 4 x 4S Turingy Multistar 5200mah batteries from my large drone. They are inexpensive, (i've bought some of them for under $30), weight 420g each, can be spread across small side-pockets in my backpack and also serve their main purpose to power 500mm camera carrier quadcopter. Together they provide about 12-15 charges of 1500mah 4S lipos. And one day served as a jump start battery for old camry as together they easily do over 300amps at 14v.

    Thats one of the best setups ive ever seen, that guy who makes those needs to market that idea, theres no way i would have guessed it was made by an individual, it looks like a very expensive and professional product, and great value too.

  • @magnaxans6159

    I did something similar but with a lithium ion battery pack. But I found what made it even better (and you can go with a smaller battery) is add a 50-100 amp solar panel. On a really sunny day (which is usually the case when I'm flying) you can charge the battery pack by the time you get to your next set of packs, at least in my case, which I usually only charge 2 packs at a time, constantly throughout the day.

    • @TinysLEDs
      @TinysLEDs 6 лет назад +1

      This thing lasts all day with out issue. Seth and I have never even thought about not having enough capacity available. Solar would be a great option though for car camping with this thing.

    I prefer my 84 amp hour deep cycle lead battery setup with 100 watt solar panel, charge controller, usb output x2, XT60 output x2, and 12v post leads (for my friends' chargers using alligator clips). Total cost was about $300 but I can fly all day with 12s electric planes.

    • @alvaives9606
      @alvaives9606 6 лет назад

      You need a power supply. Wall outlet is way out of the isdt input voltage range, and it’s AC anyways.
      Power supplies give a DC voltage output.

    You can still fix that SC-608.. it's probably just the fuse. There's an smd fuse inside that you can replace or solder bridge the pads, just make sure to never plug the battery in reverse polarity again.

    The big battery is kinda cool, but it’s very bulky - I use a 16,000mAh lipo which fits into my backpack, it was about $60. I do wonder what would happen if it blew up though 😂
    I use the Q6 plus too - great charger

    • @TinysLEDs
      @TinysLEDs 6 лет назад

      It is not bulky at all. Light weight and easy to carry with the handle. This is much safer than the 16Ah Lipo as well. In addition to all of that, you don't have all the other features of the unit. If I am going out where I wouldn't want to take the battery case, I would just take more packs and put them in my backpack. Same as your battery in your bag, and I wouldn't bring my charger either.

    • @TheRCAddict
      @TheRCAddict  6 лет назад

      This is true, however 10Amps output is more than enough for field charging, and remember if you really wanted to go ham you could stack multiple chargers on the outputs, the LTO pack can handle a ton of current out, 40+ amps.

    • @stephanotto9225
      @stephanotto9225 6 лет назад

      @adamk.3946 6 лет назад

      Enrique Rumbo agreed. While this 22ah portable battery is nice, it's capacity is really kind of small for the price. I'd totally go for a gel battery myself and just keep an eye on its voltage

    • @TinysLEDs

      @adamk.3946 6 лет назад

      Tiny_Ty the usb charger while nice doesn't justify the price for me. I'll say again that this looks like a nice product and for some people this battery is totally worth it. For me it's not when I could have a much higher capacity battery to charge from at a cheaper / similar price. If the USB ports are a deal breaker there's fairly simple ways to add the capability to a gel battery.. or there's also very cheap power banks that can take care of the same thing

    why not just use a car battery, like a separate one from your car obviously, a 100$ battery will give you 44 amp hours plus maybe 10$ to make up some cables to hook up to a charger

    • @Kikerumbo
      @Kikerumbo 6 лет назад +1

      Car batteries aren't designed to charge/discharge. You will destroy it after a few cycles. What you want to use is a deep cycle battery (motorhome or boat battery) AGM or gel.

    • @sgtsawhill1
      @sgtsawhill1 6 лет назад +1

      I would get a deep cycle boat battery. More capacity and you can drain it with no problems...

    • @jake3040
      @jake3040 6 лет назад +1

      fair enough i didn't think of the discharging and recharging, i guess you could still use a truck battery but they're much more a pain to move

    • @TinysLEDs
      @TinysLEDs 6 лет назад +2

      Weight is mainly a factor. Seth and I previously charged from recycled UPS SLA batteries. You don't actually get all of those 44Ah listed with a AGM or other deep cycles. I can pick up this unit with my pinky finger. I need 2 hands to lift a larger AGM battery designed for running for a while.

    • @Jrod_FPV
      @Jrod_FPV 6 лет назад

      also some chargers don't give their rated output unless you feed them with more than 12v.... not sure what the voltage is on this field battery but that's why prefer not to use a single 12v car battery. If nothing else you could put 2 car batteries in a row.

  • @Frogzy
    @Frogzy 6 лет назад

    I think (and no offense taken) that this solution is kind of stupid.
    because its much expensive then a regular Power Supply DC, its much heavier and much bigger.
    i really don't understand why to not just use A DC Power Supply and you be fine,
    and if you want to charge batteries on a trip, just put one 10000mAh 6S Lipo in your bag and you'll be fine.
    like that thing is just big and heavy and also if it coast 160$ I can buy 5 12V 42A 500W Power supplies That Are much smaller, the only good thing in here is the small ISDT Charger.
    and yes i know that to get the max performance from the ISDT You need more than 12V but thats not a problem.
    and BTW its not recommend to charge the gopro at 3.1A they recommend to charge 1-2A.

    • @spudmonk13
      @spudmonk13 6 лет назад

      because a 10000mAh 6S Lipo will run you atleast $70 and can only charge ~6-7 1500mah 4s packs...this is more than double the capacity and it's all bundled into one case...this is perfect if you want to spend all day (8 hours+) in the field flying and only have a limited number of lipos...

    • @Frogzy
      @Frogzy 6 лет назад

      yes, but its much bigger and heavier and Also 7 packs for charge its enough i think.

    • @spudmonk13
      @spudmonk13 6 лет назад

      but this just depends on each person's individual situation...7 packs may be enough for you...but would not be enough for me...

    • @Kikerumbo
      @Kikerumbo 6 лет назад

      You are going to be able to charge what... 15x 4S 1300mAh with this. I think is too expensive for that charging power. AGM or gel battery with 70Ah 12V cost around 120usd. You can be all day long charging with one of these.

    • @pemtax557
      @pemtax557 6 лет назад +1

      It's not just about the cost, it's also about convenience it provides in the field. When you are at races, having something self contained, small footprint easy to set up, take down, carry and use is worth a lot. You typically don't want the distraction of countless wires, connectors, adapters, etc. strung all over your work area. Given just how much we all spend on this hobby ... the $160 is not really that much out of line.
