I'm impressed with the details of his design ... it is well conceived and built. It sure as heck simplifies setup in the field. Excellent find Seth.
Plenty of capacity to charge all day, USB for your Phone, USB for lights when tearing down, it fits all my needs perfectly.
It really does, especially when you take into account how little you have to lug around for an all day charging solution. Any alternative approach would be a complete pain to pack, transport and re-setup.
Nice review! Thanks for posting, Mr. Seth!
Perfect timing as I am looking for a good battery charger and a good field charger, I'm looking at the ISDT's for home, that Porta Power looks pretty cool I'm going to look into it, Thanks Seth for the great review
Good review! I'm in love with isdt-608 charger too. To take drone to backcountry wilderness, I've made a "4 to 1" harness from XT60 connectors and AWG12 cable and use 4 x 4S Turingy Multistar 5200mah batteries from my large drone. They are inexpensive, (i've bought some of them for under $30), weight 420g each, can be spread across small side-pockets in my backpack and also serve their main purpose to power 500mm camera carrier quadcopter. Together they provide about 12-15 charges of 1500mah 4S lipos. And one day served as a jump start battery for old camry as together they easily do over 300amps at 14v.
Thats one of the best setups ive ever seen, that guy who makes those needs to market that idea, theres no way i would have guessed it was made by an individual, it looks like a very expensive and professional product, and great value too.
Too many people are just seeing it as a battery, it's more than that.
If thewizard made it, you know it's good
Very cool. I'm definitely interested in one of these!
Looks cool. I had my playspeed on 1.25 from a previous video and I thought you were on hella caffeine cause you were talking really fast 😂
This post comes perfect. I google all day for field charging items.
I like it. Good job, thanks for sharing. Jeff
Great find! I want one
Nice! Love the idea and the price is on point!
Excellent lookong equipment. Greetings from Croatia
Been with you sence 2014 and your quality is still just great! Good job man you and flitetest are what hooked me on the hobby thanks my friend and keep up the good work!! Are you still flying fixed wing?
Yeah flew (and destroyed) my F1 wing today lol. Looking into 3d ultralights this summe :)
Nice! I have an edge540 but i'm scared to kill it so i will have to get past that lol..
Ok I want this. Thanks for spending my money for me Sir lol... Keep up the vids, great work as always :)
Very cool post i would love to have that!! So i could just keep flying and flying and flying!!
Very nice review....
Nice power Station
Greetings from Germany
Looks very good, wonders can this power station also charge 6s battery? Thanks!
RC Addict, could you do a 2021 update with best field charging solutions?
I did something similar but with a lithium ion battery pack. But I found what made it even better (and you can go with a smaller battery) is add a 50-100 amp solar panel. On a really sunny day (which is usually the case when I'm flying) you can charge the battery pack by the time you get to your next set of packs, at least in my case, which I usually only charge 2 packs at a time, constantly throughout the day.
This thing lasts all day with out issue. Seth and I have never even thought about not having enough capacity available. Solar would be a great option though for car camping with this thing.
Solar would be cool, but often it's raining, or we are inside haha.
Cool mobile charger 👍👍👍
awesome
!
Do you have a way to get ahold of the guy making these other than Slack? I have been unable to reach him.
I prefer my 84 amp hour deep cycle lead battery setup with 100 watt solar panel, charge controller, usb output x2, XT60 output x2, and 12v post leads (for my friends' chargers using alligator clips). Total cost was about $300 but I can fly all day with 12s electric planes.
Is it possible to solder up a regular wall outlet cable for those ISDT chargers? I really like the size and functionality of the ISDT chargers, but I don't really need a field charger.
The Flying Nurse I believe you need a proper power supply
Look into getting a ISDT D2 charger if you don't need a field charger.
You need a power supply. Wall outlet is way out of the isdt input voltage range, and it’s AC anyways.
Power supplies give a DC voltage output.
The scroll wheel on mine doesn't work properly now :(
You can still fix that SC-608.. it's probably just the fuse. There's an smd fuse inside that you can replace or solder bridge the pads, just make sure to never plug the battery in reverse polarity again.
Yeah going to fix it soon.
I'm surprised I didn't hear about this battery until now
The big battery is kinda cool, but it’s very bulky - I use a 16,000mAh lipo which fits into my backpack, it was about $60. I do wonder what would happen if it blew up though 😂
I use the Q6 plus too - great charger
It is not bulky at all. Light weight and easy to carry with the handle. This is much safer than the 16Ah Lipo as well. In addition to all of that, you don't have all the other features of the unit. If I am going out where I wouldn't want to take the battery case, I would just take more packs and put them in my backpack. Same as your battery in your bag, and I wouldn't bring my charger either.
would you have direct email to this guy? for the field box?
how do you charge the station itself? d you need a special charger ? or jsut wall plug ?
It is not available to purchase anymore. It’s charged as a 4s Lipo
Hey man, I put in an order along with Jeff Duke back at the end of February and wondering what's going on?
Yeah I am not sure what's up. He said he got way more orders than expected and was backlogged. I will ask
The RCAddict we just got a reply from him. Apparently the batteries he is using belong to a client and he does not have permission to do what he's doing. He's had our money for a while.
Would it be possible to use the iCharger 408 duo with this field charger battery? Sorry if this is a pedantic question.
As long as it takes 13-17v input and you can make an input cord from bananas to whatever it uses for sure! This pack can discharge 40a easily.
Awesome! That's great news. The Wizard rules!
Good Idea! But with 4S and the ISDT Q6 you can not go up to the 300W max charge power. Max power will be 224W
This is true, however 10Amps output is more than enough for field charging, and remember if you really wanted to go ham you could stack multiple chargers on the outputs, the LTO pack can handle a ton of current out, 40+ amps.
You are right. 10A are enough to charge 4 packs with 2C. But power can only replaced by more power ;-)
@The RCAddict you can recover that sc608 by changing the fuse...I have successfully repaired one
Yeah, going to fix it soon.
Is there a way to get a hold of him... not on slack. I cant access that workspace because im not in that workspace to begin with. Im interested in this
His email was posted in the comments here.
Ok how do we purchase one? Just got the ISDT 6 plus. Tired of dragging generator and home charger around.
It's not available anymore unfortunately
can you do an update about this product i like ,id like one but there seems a lot of drama about it
It's not able to be sold anymore :/
Hey are you still using this? how are you liking it long term?
Every race, it's amazing. He is not currently able to sell any more though :(
Safer yet, AGM or gel motorhome/boat battery with +70Ah for around 120usd. Charge all day long, no fire risk...
Enrique Rumbo agreed. While this 22ah portable battery is nice, it's capacity is really kind of small for the price. I'd totally go for a gel battery myself and just keep an eye on its voltage
Can you carry that battery in one hand and charger your phone from it without anything additional? Cheaper isn't always the best option.
do you have a link for this $120 gel battery at 70ah??
Tiny_Ty the usb charger while nice doesn't justify the price for me. I'll say again that this looks like a nice product and for some people this battery is totally worth it. For me it's not when I could have a much higher capacity battery to charge from at a cheaper / similar price. If the USB ports are a deal breaker there's fairly simple ways to add the capability to a gel battery.. or there's also very cheap power banks that can take care of the same thing
I want 1 but cant get it in the uk ;-(
You might be able to work something out if you message him.
Shame looked good
Sound's like LiFePo4 Battery's
What is the max amount of amps you can pull from the battery
Not 100% sure, but it's at least 30A easy.
Nice solution But I Don’t really get it to be honest. I take a 16000mah 6s with me and the isdt 300w and Pretty much does the same as this rig for a fraction of the cost
It has been discussed below, both setups will produce similar end results, but there is a huge difference in usability and safety.
The RCAddict I get the safety part. Usability is nonsense in my opinion. Very same idea. Charge it up front discharge on the field
It's all contained in a hard case box with the USB and screen features. It's a 100% different product than carrying around a large lipo. There isn't much comparison honestly.
Is there a way to contact the builder without creating a slack account?
Listed his email in some comments.
Can someone please give me this guys email? This fpv chat is not working for me.
Read the comments, it's been posted.
fpv chat has been a nightmare doesnt work fo rme
why not just use a car battery, like a separate one from your car obviously, a 100$ battery will give you 44 amp hours plus maybe 10$ to make up some cables to hook up to a charger
Car batteries aren't designed to charge/discharge. You will destroy it after a few cycles. What you want to use is a deep cycle battery (motorhome or boat battery) AGM or gel.
I would get a deep cycle boat battery. More capacity and you can drain it with no problems...
fair enough i didn't think of the discharging and recharging, i guess you could still use a truck battery but they're much more a pain to move
Weight is mainly a factor. Seth and I previously charged from recycled UPS SLA batteries. You don't actually get all of those 44Ah listed with a AGM or other deep cycles. I can pick up this unit with my pinky finger. I need 2 hands to lift a larger AGM battery designed for running for a while.
also some chargers don't give their rated output unless you feed them with more than 12v.... not sure what the voltage is on this field battery but that's why prefer not to use a single 12v car battery. If nothing else you could put 2 car batteries in a row.
wtf don''t know where to buy and capacity and exact weight
Link how to contact the seller, I said it's 22Ah, and I said it's about 10 lbs...
sorry need exact weight.
it actually looks lite, like 2-3kg..
about 5.4kg
I've commented before, but I still have not received my money back from an order I placed in February with a friend of mine. He said he's no longer making these, but he won't give us our money back. Could you please check on this for us? The order was placed under the name Jeff Duke.
He's sending / sent refunds to many people. I will ask
The RCAddict thank you! I thought the individuals that actually got one of these Chargers were lucky and now I'm concerned I'm not only not getting what I paid for, but I might not be getting my money back either.
He's not going to scam you man. He says he doesn't have a recent message from Jeff Duke.
The RCAddict and Jeff is saying he's the dude is not replying. It doesn't matter anymore, Jeff offered to give me my money back and I went ahead and bought a 10000mah 6s pack to charge off of. They can work out the details themselves.
I think (and no offense taken) that this solution is kind of stupid.
because its much expensive then a regular Power Supply DC, its much heavier and much bigger.
i really don't understand why to not just use A DC Power Supply and you be fine,
and if you want to charge batteries on a trip, just put one 10000mAh 6S Lipo in your bag and you'll be fine.
like that thing is just big and heavy and also if it coast 160$ I can buy 5 12V 42A 500W Power supplies That Are much smaller, the only good thing in here is the small ISDT Charger.
and yes i know that to get the max performance from the ISDT You need more than 12V but thats not a problem.
and BTW its not recommend to charge the gopro at 3.1A they recommend to charge 1-2A.
because a 10000mAh 6S Lipo will run you atleast $70 and can only charge ~6-7 1500mah 4s packs...this is more than double the capacity and it's all bundled into one case...this is perfect if you want to spend all day (8 hours+) in the field flying and only have a limited number of lipos...
yes, but its much bigger and heavier and Also 7 packs for charge its enough i think.
but this just depends on each person's individual situation...7 packs may be enough for you...but would not be enough for me...
You are going to be able to charge what... 15x 4S 1300mAh with this. I think is too expensive for that charging power. AGM or gel battery with 70Ah 12V cost around 120usd. You can be all day long charging with one of these.
It's not just about the cost, it's also about convenience it provides in the field. When you are at races, having something self contained, small footprint easy to set up, take down, carry and use is worth a lot. You typically don't want the distraction of countless wires, connectors, adapters, etc. strung all over your work area. Given just how much we all spend on this hobby ... the $160 is not really that much out of line.
