    OMG I had no idea it was this simple. I had all sorts of extra junk to make this work and I got some bad advice from some Facebook guy. Wish I would have seen this video a long time ago. Would have saved me $$$

    I just used the cars audio amplifier power cables in my trunk. T'd off them and have a direct connection to 12v. Warning if your trying to charge 2 1500's at 2C your car battery will discharge very quick. I have had much better luck with the AGM batteries. I use a Red Top and can charge 15+ packs with no problems

    Good video. I often charge from my vehicle. Back in the old school days racing offroad rc trucks our racetrack had no ac so we all charged from our vehicles.
    Great info in this video.

    I added so many steps. Cig lighter to power inverter. 120v to Lipo charger

      Someone else also told me they do that and I should make a video to share with everyone that was the "right" way. I laughed and made this video instead.

    This might not be in your wheel house but isn't a solar charge controller a dc to dc converter? Seems like you could charge a discharged battery (paired with the right solar charge controller) with another battery (of equal or higher voltage), by connecting the charged battery up to the PV input on the solar charge controller. The charge controller would then, limit the current to its max rating while regulating the charging voltage.

    Woudl it be okay to use croc clips direct to the my car batt then use the charger?

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  3 года назад +1

      That depends on your car but I don't like going under the hood. Gas engines and lipo batteries are probably not a good combo.

    Can I use this to charge my Lifepo4 200ah battery? 10 amps of charging power is all I need. Just confused about since my battery doesn't seem to have a balancing connector to plug in. It has a built in BMS.

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  Год назад

      The charger here uses a programmed variable voltage and current to charge the lipos. Your BMS probably just needs a constant voltage and current. You didn't mention which BMS you have so I can only guess. I would probably just look at your documentation to see what voltage and current range is acceptable for it. Your car DC power plug is likely just 12V and 10A like mine (perhaps less, depends on the car). You might just be able to charge it directly off the car but consult your documentation first and be sure to do this safely in case the BMS isn't able to handle it.

    • @TheAllSeeingAye
      @TheAllSeeingAye Год назад

      @@AlbertKimTV Hi. The BMS is JBD-SP04S028A - A01, 4S, 150A. When you say directly off the car, do you mean a connection from the cig light or starter battery. Aslo when you mention the 12v/10a cig lighter port, I always assumed that it was just a direct connection to the starter battery with a fuse, is it not? Is there something there that limits the amount of amps coming through? I assumed it was the device we plug into it that controls the amp draw. (Obviously I have no training/schooling in this field ,lol) My biggest concern is to avoid the Lifepo4 from drawing too many amps and burning my alternator. Oh by the way I have a solar charge controller connected to the lifepo4, (not enough watts) in case theres a issue haveing two charging sources - but I can always switch off the panel and controller though easily.

  • @Schlaegel

    I recommend getting some cheap, very cheap jumper cables, and replacing one side's alligator clips with an XT60. That way, you can charge outside instead of inside your car, you can avoid any current bottlenecks in the car's wiring, you can always use it whether the car is on or not, and you can get the full power of the battery.

    • @frankcastillo8869
      @frankcastillo8869 3 года назад

      Staying inside the car sounds better to me. I don't need to charge giant batteries. Also messing with anything under the hood sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. I've heard of guys having huge lipo fires in the engine bay of the car and the car was totalled. Apparently insurance doesn't cover negligence. He toasted his $50K car.

    • @Schlaegel
      @Schlaegel 3 года назад

      @@frankcastillo8869 I don't recommend charging under the hood or in the car. That's why jumper cables are good. They take the danger outside because they are long enough to go out of the car and connect to another car. So now, they go out of the car and into a LIPO safe bag that's got some LIPOs charging. No one should change or modify anything in the car or under the hood; just clamp the cables onto the car's battery terminals like one would when needing a jump start.
