      He’ll have more subs soon... he’s just started... As soon as he gets more views his videos will be suggested by RUclips to more and more people. He will definitely improve his knowledge and will be among the greatest channels about FPV drones. I really like what motivates him: sharing what he is learning while he is learning.... this helps a lot of beginners that (some times) cannot follow what more experienced pilots are putting out there. Even though they have more knowledge and experience sometimes they forget all the difficulties and problems they had when they started. Matt is clearly sharing his experiences as he is facing and learning them... Can’t wait to see his progress (as a pilot and content creator) and the growth of his channel. Btw, the quality of the videos, the amount of effort he puts into them, and how natural he is speaking to the camera will definitely make his channel a great channel. I’ve been following since video one. I don’t even remember how I came across his first video, I am glad I did though.

    Great info Matt! I have the same charger and one of the functions I use quite often is the storage function. I tend to bring my lipos up or down to 3.8V with this before parallel charging. This is also really convenient when it's time to charge up all my packs I know they are ready to go.

    • @FPVSlice

      That's a really good tip! I was wondering what the best method would be in the real world to get them at a similar voltage.

  • @EbonySeraphim
    @EbonySeraphim 3 года назад +21

    Additional tips and corrections from an RC heli pilot (we demand more out of our LiPos than FPV):
    1. You don't need all batteries to be the same brand, or even the same capacity. Critically, they need to be the same cell count. Importantly, their voltages need to be close together. In fact, the reason you need them to be the same cell count is because different cell counts IS a different voltage on the pack. To describe what happens -- it isn't even an overcharge amount issue. The issue is the power delivered to each battery in the circuit, and for that matter -- as they exist in the circuit. The moment you wire up a lower voltage battery with higher voltage batteries, the laws of physics (E&M) will be pumping juice directly from the higher voltage batteries to the lower voltage ones and in an unrestrained manner. Basically, it's the bigger batteries that will start to overload the smaller one.
    2. When you parallel charge, you can charge over 1C just the same as you would individual batteries. A parallel charging board presents the charger with a single large battery. Take that total capacity, and you can charge at 2C (or higher if you do) of that.
    3. This was missing entirely from the discussion: but always balance charge your packs initially. I have a charger that can fast/slow/normal balance charge. I normal balance charge at the start of day, fast balance on the field. If you're going to discharge your pack promptly (within hours), you really don't need to balance charge it slowly with precision.
    Example: I always charge pairs of my 6s 5200mAh batteries at 20.8A. This is a 2C charge because in parallel it is logically a single 10400mAh battery, twice that is 20.8A. My 6s 6000mAh pairs are charged at 24A, etc.

    • @Fundalf_the_greyt
      @Fundalf_the_greyt Год назад +1

      Hi, thanks for the comment, it's very informative. I'm curious, if you plug a 6s 1500MAh and a 6s 1300Mah, would you set the charge at 2.8A assuming 1C? Would it spread the 2.8 correctly 1.5/1.3 or 1.4A for each - charging the smaller one faster and somehow balancing between them once the voltage rises and tries to equalize? How does it work?

    I looked all day on the internet while being subscribed to your channel before I got the right answer I was looking for that I found in no other videos about balance board charging and what to set the charger at as far as capacity...at 10:03 or somewhere around that time in the video you draw the diagram with 6 batteries and how they charge 1 ar a time at 1.5. So all day my question was do a multiply mah by the number of batteries. You have the best video on the internet about how to use a balance board and what to set charger at. Thanks very much. Liked, been subbed for a while amd hit the bell for all notifications. I have the dji fpv system and I started watching your videos about it months and months ago. I don't know why, but I had a hell of a time trying to find good information on charging Lipo batteries when I got into this hobby. I charged my 450mah 4s batteries at 2 amps for a long time before I found that it's unsafe to do that. Funny though, those batteries still work great and they're over a year old now. It's simple. 1000mah is 1 amp charge rate. 2000mah is 2 amp charge rate. 450mah is 0.4 or 0.5 amp charge rate. I don't know why so many videos didn't just say that.

    Excellent video, it should be required viewing for anyone starting out in the hobby. Batteries are the most boring, most expensive, and by far the most dangerous aspect to this hobby. What I do is use one expensive 20 amp charger for the heavy lifting and I have a couple of little B6ACs for things like my goggle and ground station batteries (Yes I'm old school, I still use a ground station lol). That was a good tip that the red wire is always on the inside of the balance plug. Unfortunately those little guides on the balance plugs don't provide much protection against stupidity, which I found out the hard way when I got careless once and put on a balance plug backwards. That's why I still watch videos like this, it's not only a good auditing tool for my own practices, but sometimes I pick up a tip that had escaped me!

    Thanks for the video. I have the DC only version of the same charger, and I noticed that when charging, even if you specify 2C or 3C for the charging current, that amperage is only applied when the battery is at a relatively low voltage. As the voltage increases, the charger reduces the current, thus getting a charging curve with more amps initially and less amps later on in the charge cycle. I have a parallel charging board, but I noticed some damage on some of the cells on my batteries and I have the feeling that it was because after some time, its just too much work to alwas be checking and grouping batteries to parallel charge, so I was less than perfectly methodical about doing this. My method now is to charge at 3C most of my packs and just do them 2 at a time on the charger. For 6 batteries, I have to make 3 trips to the charger, but I need to be around it anyway, and it takes up about the same time as parallel charging them. I feel this lets the charger more closely manage and balance the individual cells. I have noticed much better battery health doing things this way.
