i got my old childhood bike out of the garage a few days ago after not moving it for about 5 years and this video was perfect for me to understand which parts only need some new grease and which parts i need to replace. thank you!
I did BMX back in the 80'S (yes I'm old at 52) and for me when it came to my bike, Mondays and Fridays were maintenance and inspection days for my bike, and I had a schedule of things that got replaced at certain intervals no matter what. I hope that you addressed all of the issues with the bikes owner and he had them taken care of.
I'm not usually one to comment on videos but I gotta see this! lmao Also, just want to shout out to you Phu I've been getting back into riding after 20+ years and your videos have helped me TONS! As you know, pretty much every component of today's bikes are different than back in the days. It's like learning ALL OVER AGAIN! So, THANKS MAN!
Can you do a video about the different type of brake systems, the difference between them, gyros, pros and cons and why prices from different brands are so varied? 👍🤔
I always try to find little things to adjust or clean up on my bike so this has never been a problem except for my loose spokes. I watched both wheel truing vids you had and realized I don't have a truing stand and that id rather take it to my local shop than ruin my wheel. Thanks for these useful videos my friend, have a wonderful day.
@@Thatblackz28 I've thought abt this and this is a problem since I don't know if the spring tension is equal on both sides which could make one brake pad be closer than the other even if the rim would be completely straight, might look at it again, experiment a little. The dish of the rim compared to the hub also concerns me.
@@Rick-td5ej Hello! For the most part I will do all the basic maintenance needed for our bikes… Just depends on what it is but yes I do however take my bikes in for repair from time to time to my local bike Shop… Sure I could do it all but sometimes I don’t need the extra work but my bike shop does and in my opinion when I take anything to them for repair I feel like I’m helping them out as well …My Son and I are fairly new to the BMX scene so really we are still learning things about BMX and these Videos the guys make are really helpful ! I’ve ran into a few things I haven’t been able to figure out and I either reference one of these videos or my local bike Shop! I wouldn’t go as far as saying any tard can do it… Some things may be more difficult to some ….
Thanks phu for advise to make it feel brand new. Im about to buy stem and handle bar luckily i watch this video after that im about to buy Headset, tires, grips, pedals and chain
I would love a video on pros and cons of running brakes... Just bought a new (to me) bike and this one does not have brakes. Don't know if i want to put some on this bike, or leave it brakeless
brakeless is mainly for part and some street riding but usually hard to new riders due to using your foot to stop, brakes get in the way when doing certain tricks like a bar spin and can stop far easier and faster depending on the type of brakes; the choice is up to you but in personally i ride with brakes because i love doing wheelies and stuff of that sort
You should make a video about converting to sealed bearings..I think that will help a lot of novice riders as far as limiting maintenance and also will increase their bike performance on a lot of levels.
I love the videos and all of the personalities. My only problem lies with that TV in the background. That flashings going to give someone an epileptic seizure.
thank you for this video took my mongoose legion for a ride today chain is rusted so i took it for a ride to see what i needed to repair so new chain is needed and pedals you can feel it when your riding it
@@AlfredoMancuso Offset of the front hub, tapering, chromoly vs paint etc Seen some forks recently that have an adjustable dropout insert and they look pretty good, might be getting them for my next BMX build.
I snapped new chains, specially half links, cult, Shadow Supreme, eclat diesel all snapped, cult hold up the longest. Now running animal Hoder KMC chain, full link. No issues. Tech Thursdays on tubing with Phu. Is there a difference in Asian steel and American steel used in tubing?
I’ve always been told by people who work on bikes that I should have a little less than a half inch of slack in my chain but the chain you were saying was too loose looks about as tight as I usually go for on my chain. Am I doing it all wrong? Does it need to be just a bit tighter than that one or way tighter? Cause you made it sound like it was very loose. I’ve never had any issue with my chain like that if it gets any looser it will start to jump a tooth or two at a time every now and again on your sprocket… which is no fun. Should it be pulled tight with full tension???
Some sound advice. I’ve had somethings last for years on my bike if you look after them. But if do no maintenance then your asking for things to be replaced more often.

I’d bring my bike in for chrome dome to true the wheels but they’d probably end up worse than when they came in. How’d that go? Offended enough to win a free wheel truing?
From the experience I have been over my bars because of an old chain now I didn’t lose teeth but had to have one of my finger joints and hand bones replaced with a plastic joint and titanium bar in my hand thanks to the chain😂
My cousin use to ride for eastern bikes back in the day. I was just getting into bmx and he passed down a Morales signature frame. It was a tank and heaviest bike iv ever ridden.
I run 33 sprocket and a 10 tooth driver in the back. I always have trouble getting it just right so it run's smooth and no high spots . Ya the gear ratio I run is basically so i can get 3 real hard cranks in . Working on your bike is the best way to fully dial in to your bike so it rides the way you want it to ride. Besides working on bikes now you need a 17mm size 6 Allan unless it's profile and then you need a 6.6 or 8 pending your cranks size 4 if your doing brakes I think. I am 39 so I have seen bmx make huge changes for the better
That's why you have to get thick aluminium sprockets. Less likely to bend. Also have to get sprockets with more teeth (i get it that its a bigger ratio). Less stress on the chain.
Blowing up your tire is the worst, I got a defective tire once it blowed up between the sidewall and bead at least it was on the rear so I kinda wiped out would have been worse if it happened on the front.. buying extra bike parts during sales is a good way to have spares laying around when you need one.
I love this, why can't I work at a shop like yours? Not for lack of trying I may add. Everything you are saying, if someone came into a shop I was working at I would definitely say all that to the customer...maybe that's why I haven't been accepted at all the shops I applied to..I'm too damn knowledgeable and honest..lol..
