    I bought a 2001 brand new and wish I had known about this at the time. I even got on Thumper Talk from time to time. Good Job on the vid.

    I have 7,000 miles and 6 falls in the sand with my DRZ and no case covers and no problems. I didn't even know about case covers until I just watched this vid. I'm a lucky dog!

      The magnesium covers are on the thin and brittle side, but the real issue comes from the pressure point that the shift lever creates when it gets pushed over into the case cover when you dump the bike on that side. I've dumped my bike numerous times since I put the covers on and modded the shift lever and I can see where the lever has still been able to dig into the case cover. At a minimum I would pull your shift lever off and smooth it out and get rid of the sharp edges and that ridge on the backside of it. That's a free mod if you have a file handy. I actually went back in after this video and re-worked the backside of that lever some more to make it it have an even smoother profile.

    Just recently found your channel (obviously I'm a little late to the party here) but loving the calm and clear voiceovers - thanks! You probably won't see this but did you buff out your shift lever? Looks nice!

    These are pretty good, but the B&B Offroad are quite a bit thicker...and of course more expensive

      +Steve Gann Thanks for sharing it. I also did a video on bypassing the clutch switch so you don't have to pull the clutch lever to start the bike. ruclips.net/video/rGp0tnu89cU/видео.html

    Saw some cheaper no brand ones on Amazon’s are the ones you used better quality? Thanks

      Couldn't speak to anything other than the ones I tried, but as long as they aren't too thin and the profile fits correctly, they should be fine.

    Only question is... How the hell do you remove them without scratch the hell out of your cover!?

    • @WheeliePete
      @WheeliePete  5 лет назад

      I'm not sure why you would ever remove these unless you were going to replace them? It's a permanent install.

    How’d you polish the levers

      Buffing wheel and polishing compound on a bench grinder.

    I pierced the crankcase with the brake lever...

      If it's just a small hole, remove that side of the case, clean it, use whatever cold weld product you see fit to patch and repair the hole/crack (J-B weld etc.), put it back together, then install the case savers. Cheaper than buying a new case, will work fine.

      I would think someone would make them, but I poked around on the web a bit and didn't find any for sale right away. Maybe someone will chime in if they know.

      i have never had the klr puncture in over 20k miles ( I own a 99, and have for 12years) i have put mine where KLRs dont belong. just to prove it could, and put alot of money into fixing what I broke because of it. case covers were never a part i have had to replace. fork seals 3x counter shaft seal 2x wheel bearings 4x head bearings once, i can go on i did pin my shift lever under the case after slamming it down at the bottom of a hill on large rocks, used another rock to bend it back out to ride home!
