I had never seen the Prophecy series until shopping for a new guitar last week... OMG!! I tried over 20 guitars that weekend trying to find what I wanted. Even after playing $1,800 Gibsons/Fenders, The Prophecy SG won me over. I love its versatility and sweet playability.
I tried that SG in the store. First take was that it was beautiful and modern. The inlays, finish and pickup screamed modern. It was nice playing, and nice sounding. Epiphone is really taking their level up a notch. Awesome guitar!
The tail piece still remains too close to the bridge humbucker and it's not recessed. The balancing issues of the SG ......light body vs heavy neck.......are they solved?
Ordered this blue Prophecy SG in December, 2020 from Sweetwater (US). Covid pandemic, worker and supply shortages, transportation issues etc. led to months and months of waiting - then an email...just yesterday...that ----can it be?? Yes - yes It shipped and will arrive tomorrow Saturday, October 30, 2021. Oh boy, oh boy oh boy!!! Long wait can't wait! 10 months but Life is good!
Love these prophecy guitars. I am NOT a fan of the inlays (I actually prefer no inlays..so), they are kinda gawdy imo. The blue and green aren't TOO bad, but the Extura ones...eek.
Bought this SG. The QC at Epiphone seems to be lacking. The nut was off to one side about 1 mm. 13th fret was high and had to be trimmed down by pro. Otherwise a great sounding instrument.
When i tried one i hated it. The neck was extremely flat and it had a neck dive thats horrible even for an SG. I played it for 15 minutes and streched in the strings because it didnt stay in tune and i thought that it was maybe caused by new strings. It helped a litle bit but the h (or b) string and g string werent having any of it. The pickups sounded good and gave a more modern type of sound but that was about it. This might have just been a realy bad example because i hear everyone says they love the prophecy models.
I have several Epiphones ,,,SG Pro and an SG Bass EB-3,,and a 12 string DR series,,,all sound great,,,the 12 string is low priced and the sound is beautiful,,,the SG is a fretless wonder,,,,you can go wrong with their quality either,,imho,,
I'm fascinated by these things but I don't get the aged gloss look. Why have flamed maple if you're going to bury it under haze? Otherwise yeah, those pickups are game-changers.
@@Philminator The Fishman Fluences still sound great though! I was at Andertons the other week and played one of these, it was like nothing else! They really can handle anything.
Nice video...good job! No offense, but no matter how much Gibson changes the headstock on the Epiphone guitars, I still don't like the way they look. Hey Gibson, take the P.R.S. example...they started putting the signature of PAUL REED SMITH (PRS logo) on all the SE headstocks and their sales soared (found out through a dealer). Now all the PRS line looks classy...I am not even a PRS fan and I bought one (P.R.S. Hollow body). A few positive things I can say about THIS guitar is that the pickups are sounding a whole lot better for stock pups. I also like that the guitar has locking tuners, nice inlay and triple A maple cap in a three color choice...nice! However, I have been playing on stage for over 30 years and have used either a strat that I have completely upgraded or a less paul with upgraded pups (I like to do my own builds) and I would never use an Epiphone with this headstock on stage...I might use it at home just to goof around with. Again, I don't mean to offend anyone, but to me the headstocks just look funky and not in a good way. I preface that to say this...to those who like Epiphone guitars, this one in particular seems like the best of the bunch and I say go for it...enjoy. Peace.
@@SheepDog1513 So, does it neck dives? haha I have a Gibson SG Special that perfectly balanced and I want to buy this new one, but I'm worried about the neck diving!
I tried the sg model at guitar center. It sounded really great... but was the most unbalanced guitar I've ever played. It was oddly so neck heavy that when it's on your lap it falls down forward hard. Deal breaker for me. Can't believe a company as big as epiphone can't make a balanced guitar at this price point...kind of rediculous. Maybe better luck with the single cut. Again the guitar did sound quite good.
Man epiphone are absolutely slaying this year

I’m not usually an explorer fan but that purple burst makes it pretty sweet
All it needs is a middle pickup, a floyd and it's a perfect explorer
Very awesome! 🤘🎸🤘
If they did the LP or the SG in that purple finish, I'd be such a happy boy.
@@fundude365 ikr I feel like I have to buy that extura just for the purple finish 😆

Always have been an Explorer fan and FINALLY an explorer w binding, block inlays AND serious pickups. Thank you Epiphone!

I literally bought this guitar yesterday. I'm so happy
Still happy?

Does it have that signature SG sound though? Cause out of this video can’t tell

Just bought this guitar today! Been playing all day! Its a beautiful beautiful guitar! So far I'm over the moon with my purchase!
Damnit Dagan, you just sold me on the sg special. Now I want this
Sg's rule. Epiphone are really kicking it up a notch across the board
Fluence pick ups are brilliant. I have them on my BC Rich and my Jackson Soloist! I think I need an SG...
I guess PMT didn't get the Adam Jones 79 Les Paul. 10k is ridiculous.
They all look amazing..but I am drawn more to the SG
me too since i already have an eclipse which is sleeker than the les paul but the viper isn't as sleek as the sg
I like them all, but Im sold on that SG.
How neckheavy is it?

Dude same here, I just ordered my today cause I saw they had it back in stock, I bought it instantly, I'm so excited for it!
I'll never be in the UK guitar shopping but I love your reviews! Keep on rocking Dagan!
I own an SG like that, but it sounds nothing like this one... mine makes weird noises, like a cat being strangled.
like stranglehold? or cat scratch fever?

The les paul is my favourite. I wish it had a blue and purple finish
I may have to treat myself for Christmas (as it's also my birthday...) thanks for inspiring me to get my wallet out!!!
How is the neck dive?
Love the inlays!
I would totally get that Flying V and learn some old school Metallica songs on it
Or I would get the LP.
Were you thinking Horsemen or Seek and Destroy?
@@scrimpmsterIf I had to choose one, Seek and Destroy. But I would deffinitely learn both

frankly i don't care about the sound over quality since it can be corrected with amplification and recording software

Cool they brought back the series/Those pickups are sick n I like they went 24 frets but don't care for single tone n volume set up...
You'll have to get the les paul then! That's the one I have my eye on at the mo.

I wanna get one as well

An SG with 24 frets that doesn't bust the bank. (cough) Tony Iommi (cough.)
Does it have neck dive like older Epiphone SG's?
I'm going to swap out my current SG Special 2004 for my grail of the Standard '61
Oh god I want this guitar
I spy a '61 or '62 Custom on the wall!
I saw the price tag and had to double take. However after seeing all these features, I can see why it costs so much.
Just got the Blue Tiger SG- thanks stimulus checK!

Does the extra hog body weight help save it from dreaded SG neck dive?
