Love how this guy feels almost compelled to do the active-pickup deep dive, bordering on a physics lesson. Sweet.

I have the red one. I used to be a hardcore anti active pickup and anti non-USA made guitars. I cannot say enough good things about this guitar. I play blues, rock, country, classic rock.... the prophecy does it all.

Gibson quality is extremely hit and miss, I had to return two Gibson Flying V's as they were not fit for the purpose they were designed for. My £250, 1980's Washburn Falcon, perfect. Pisses all over every Gibson I have tried.

Playing and owning so many Gibson Les Paul's throughout the years and I love them. I have only one left, long story. Playing guitar since I was 15 and now I'm 51. I had other guitars besides
Gibsons but I always loved the sound and feel of a Gibson Les Paul. I never really looked into an Epiphone or even cared to. When you are so used to a certain sound why mess with it right?
Well, you get eventually bored lol. I always knew Epiphone by name, but once I looked at the ugly headstocks it never got my attention in a good way. Yes, I'm one of those lol. Towards the end
of 2020, I noticed the change to the Epiphone headstocks and I at least had two give them a try. The old Kalamazoo or original headstocks were made in the inspired by Gibson line. What a smart
move. I went to a Guitar center first because a used Epiphone Sheraton II was on the wall. Big headstock I know but it had a very cool design and I took her home with me. It played and sounded
very good and the warm tones similar to an ES 335. I didn't stop there because I saw a really cool Epiphone Les Paul Modern Figured the blue ocean color on for lack of name I forget. Wow!!
Locking tuners, modern neck and plays so well and fast. Then, I found an Epiphone Les Paul 61' SG I loved how that played but didn't care for the sound on the bridge so I changed the pickups
to some hand-wired Zebra Humbuckers and it's a killer sound now!! so much so that it sounds even better than my Gibson Les Paul standard no lie. The next one was an Epiphone ES 335 in
Raspberry Iced tea like Larry Carlton's. What a sound I didn't have to change a thing. It was time for me to get a Les Paul Black beauty because I had to sell her years ago and I missed her since.
So I replaced her with an Epi Les Paul Black Beauty Custom. A fantastic guitar. Watching RUclips videos are dangerous lol. Next in line, I had to get the Joe Bonamassa Black Beauty 3 pickup
Epi less Paul and I'm very happy I did. I wasn't used to the 3 pickups but once you do the sounds are really unlimited. I also Purchased an Epi Les Paul 59' and that pretty lady has the Gibson
Burst Buckers in it. I left them in she sounds amazing. The last one, I know it's long so far. I just ordered the Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy in the Olive Tiger Eyed Aged Gloss. I can't wait for her
but I will receive the guitar this Wednesday!! So, for someone who really didn't care for an Epiphone, once I tried one, I never looked back and so happy that I gave them a shot. They are great
guitars whether you are a beginner or a pro. I'm never afraid of changing pickups If I have to but I have only changed one guitar. I might change the pickups in my Gibson Les Paul because the
$450 Epi Les Paul SG with the changed pickups is kicking its butt lol. This long story is to tell all the Gibson Lovers out there to at least give Epiphone a shot. I also get why people have to
have a Gibson and more power to you if you love them. If you are looking for a great guitar that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg, Epiphone is the real deal. Thanks for the video you really
went over the pickups and explained them very well and played some clean tones more than super heavy distortion. But the distortion sounded really good too.

Add me to the list of the converted. I am NOT overstating it when I say the Epiphone Prophecy SG is easily in the top 3 best guitars I have ever played. And ya gotta believe me when I tell you I've played thousands of guitars of every type. I've been playing professionally for 40 years. I've always been a fan of Gibson SG's but play mostly Telecasters and Strats and never any guitar with muddy, over-saturated active pickups. Ever. The Fishman Fluence active pickups are brilliant. I have abandoned my gear snobbery and distaste for active pickups since playing (and BUYING) my blue tiger Prophecy. This guitar is insanely good in every category. Tone - Sparkling but rich and incredibly responsive, neck is probably the fastest neck I've ever played, the intonation is perfect, the big, fat frets make bending effortless. I've never been a fan of bound necks either but the way the binding is installed doesn't compromise the fret feel while whizzing up and down the lightning fast satin-finished neck.

I have bought all of my guitars new, but I decided to try one of these new as was interested to see what the active PUPs were like but thought wouldn't play it much and just pick up my Gibsons. But these sound great and the neck has a great feel. Apart from the nut it is so sharp on the corners when I catch it with my hand I have to check to see if I have cut it (literally). A simple fix, but an outstanding guitar for the money, or outstanding anyway.

This video just popped up on my YT feed and so I checked it out.....very nicely done. You are right on all counts....Epiphone has been producing some very fine guitars and Fishman Fluence are my favorite pickups. I recently picked up the Extura Prophecy and have been very pleased with it, especially for the price point. The pickups sound great, and the guitar looks and plays fantastic. As usual, Epi sends out with action too high for my tastes, but that was easily fixed. I'm a Joe Bonamassa fan and I have 3 of his Epi signature models, and they are really great and now I have this Extura which of course is a completely different vibe, but I love it! I would love to stop by your store, but you are a 5 hour drive from Chicago. But if I'm ever traveling out that way, I'll try to swing by. Very well done video.

Thank you for this wonderful video about the Epiphone SG. I bought this beautiful instrument. Unfortunately, you can't adjust the string height to less than 1.75 to 2.1 millimeters. Otherwise, there is a buzz in the area of the 20th fret. I am delighted with the sound of the pickups and the other workmanship. A very beautiful instrument that I will have adjusted by a specialist. Best wishes.

Addendum: Today my friend from the band was here and adjusted the neck curve and the bridge on my SG. Now we were able to adjust the string height to 1.4 to 1.8 without any buzzing. Now I am completely satisfied. I can hardly put the SG down...

Absolutely great demo! I love it. I don't wanna be a negative Nancy but can someone say this is an EPIPHONE, ie NOT a Gibson, made in China too, and it's nearly the price of an American Made GIBSON SG, finished in nitro, plek'd? I'd gladly pay extra for the Gibson. Sorry. The only thing better on this one is the output jack is FINALLY at the correct location 😊

Had to add this. Your comment that they are not neck heavy is very wrong. Mine does a deep dive. You must've tested it with an abrasive strap in order to make that statement. That's the only ding on this instrument however. Wonderful piece.

I couldn’t agree more on the Gibson issue. The same guitars are getting turned out over and over again. They are held hostage by then fan base of rabid cork sniffing blues lawyers and dentists. Any advancement they try falls completely flat and gets rejected by their buyers. And those buyers often are paying a premium for a guitar that they think will give them the “toanz” and resale value to other blues lawyers and dentists. It’s stagnating Gibson completely and driving their prices through the roof. And so many of those Gibson’s will never get played out or recorded. They sit in closets. They are losing the next generation of players.
Meanwhile at least Epiphone is trying new stuff. The Prophecy series really feels like what a modern gigging player needs. No noise and variety of tones at a price that actual musicians can afford. The areas of improvement on the Prophecy series is promising. More frets. Neck carve. Different pickup options. Modern neck.
This to me seems like a killer gigging tool.

Silly question....can you still play it if the battery dies?

    • @MooreMusicGuitars
      @MooreMusicGuitars  3 года назад +3

Not silly at all! With the Fishmans, you have to have a battery powering the pre-amp/tone circuitry in the guitar. The pickups' output is microscopic compared to a passive humbucker, but the low output and lower impedance is where the magic starts with the Fluence pickups. It's a low power drain, though - battery lasts a long time.

Got my SG Prophecy in 2021 and have had nothing but issues with the Pickups. Currently they are completely dead and I am waiting to hear back from Tech support on it. Love the guitar other than the constant pickup issues. Active pickups suck, all of my other guitars have passive pickups and I have NEVER had a problem with any of them. Get a guitar with active pickups and can't even play right now, gotta wait for it to get fixed :-(

      I will say..
the batteries are as good as the quality you buy..
Change the 9v Duracell in my Original Prophecy roughly every 3 years or so just to never pick it up and have a dead battery.. Coming up on 4 years this time around since it has been changed at all now that i think of it. Just recently switched the 81/85s from the early 2000s Prophecy into a 2016 G400 Traditional, they really open up when you separate their wiring from a 1 volume + 1 tone and convert it to a 2 volume + 2 tone like i had to, wanted to do it to the Prophecy but just don't have the heart to drill holes into it. 😅

I've had the Tiger Blue Prophecy SG on order since December, 2020. Friday (Oct 29) it was delivered - 10 months later. What an instrument! Unfortunately the Fishman pickups were defective - both of 'em. They dropped out, popped, squealed and caused general havoc. Changed amps, cables, battery, opened the back...it always came back to the pickups (or electronics in some fashion). Another is being sent to me - expected Wednesday. However before returning the first I decided to give it a good play anyway - no amp. The sonic characteristics of the body are exquisite - it sounds wonderful by itself. I also really enjoyed the fingerboard and neck - it has such a good feel and it's like playing royalty. Can't agree more that Epiphone is doing A+ work.

You mean like, post-apocalypse no more batteries? Or do you mean when the battery in the guitar runs out of juice? For the second question, your guitar won't produce a usable output without 9V going to the active circuit. Can't play it amplified without a battery.
For the first, I guess your choices are: trade it for food, or use it as a weapon. Good luck. ;-)

I have this exact guitar, same color, everything. These Fishman pickups are dull and boring, the tone on this guitar is far inferior to its stablemate the SG Modern, same body, same maple top, same neck, same ebony fretboard, yet my Modern has a nise sweet tone and sparkle in the high end. The active pickups are flat with no top end. I suspect one of the problems is just two control knobs, both the Modern and Prophecy have push pulls, I can get so much more character out of my Modern. I will be ripping these battery power pieces of junk out and selling them.

My opinion is a bit different than most I guess but, how sweet or pretty a guitar looks is irrelevant as to how it plays and sounds. It's almost a $1000 dollars with tax and that's way overpriced. My Leo Jaymz at $169 would not have a problem competing with this on every level. Locking tuners shouldn't be needed with an SG. Battery powered pickups trying to sound like traditional pickups lol. If you're stuck on buying name brand guitars so be it. I could buy 4 different inexpensive guitars that kick ass and play just as well. This is another example of the big companies overcharging because of logo worship. Don't forget to always have a battery with you kids lol
