Yeah, these have all been recalled. I spoke to Gerber today and they said that it doesn't matter what's left of it (whatever parts you have), they send you a prepaid FedEx box and will replace it when the new line of machetes come out.
The days of Gerber quality made in Portland, Oregon are a thing of the past. The Fiskars Gerbers are selling by name recognition only and that is being exposed by videos like this one. Thanks for sharing and saving others money.
Thanks I emailed about Recall but no responce figures they want my cash but because I live in Canada they don't care after they get it. Thanks for watch'in
Tractor Supply has a machete called the chop saw for like $10. It has two bolts in the handle. I never broken the handle off it and i've cut small red oaks and hickory all the time on the farm.
I know he uses the Bear Grylls "Ultimate Knife" I seen him beat on the blade with rocks to cut stuff. But it didn't say how many they go through in a season
You can always send it back and get the new one "improved" one. Gerber sent out a recall notice cause of what you just did. Just call them, tell them what happened and I believe they'll send you a box since this was a recall and you'll get a new one. The fix...stronger steel...supposedly.
the handel on mine cracked so i made a wood handel for it, i allso re temperd the blade to prevent this from happening. it has served me well in 2 years now
Only the first batch that was made in China had all the production problems, they're decent now. It's just hard for Gerber to shake off the bad rep of the first batch.
Know your tool. Why would you try to cut down a tree with it. Would you use a hatchet/ax to cut down a tree or a machete? I would pick a hatchet/ax any day of the week, because that's what that tool is used for. Parangs/machetes are made for clearing brush, taking down small trees, etc...What you did was the equivalent of trying to use a garden hose to power-wash a deck.
machete are lighter and easyer to carrie / pack thats why mountain men carried bowie style knives , never the less its shouldn't have broken no matter what. and now there is a recall on them.
Gerber makes junk and dressed up junk. I have broken two of their multi tools. One of them was broken while I was turning a nut. It snapped one whole side of the pliers off. The steel they use is junk.
Brutal man. Hopefully you got a warrenty! if you looking for a cheap alternative, try the Cold Steel Kukri ($30). Stong blade. if you like throwing knives or hawks, stop by my channel cheers great vid! nice to see another Canuck out there!
Sir I suggest you buy a nepalese kukri or a Filipino sword/bolo that will cut down a tree. A Filipino sword that can be buy in wet markets are cheap! But it will last long until the end of your life or even in wars. The problem with the Philippine bolos are the handle because, the handle is easy to loosen and made of wood. But one answer for that problem! It's just an epoxy. Just watch my videos in my channel if your interested.
Go full tang or dont go at all man. If you are a knife collector or are educated about knives then you should know better to not buy junk like this. Juss sayin.
I hear Bear does not even use his knife.

They recalled 119,000 of these machetes for breaking like that and causing injury. Be careful Sir!
Gerber has gone down hill in the past several years. Gave serious thought to picking one of these up, glad I saved my money. Thanks.
