- Many of us take our phones with us wherever we go, including the bathroom. We were curious how this affected the phones, and if there could be any bacteria, pathogens, or anything else on them.
We sampled 19 phones for bacteria and brought them to Dr. Susan Whittier - Director of Microbiology at the NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center. Here are the results.

It’s so gross to me that ppl don’t sanitize their phones a few times a day bc of how much we touch them. I think a lot of people do not realize that their phone is dirtier than a public toilet seat.

@@manisha3971 get antibacterial wipes in a supermarket or discount store for like £1, then wipe it down. They are very useful overall, you can also clean your screen SO well with them. Wipe your screen down with one then take some soft wipe like a tissue and then clean off the liquid and anything else. Cleans like magic
i sanitize my phone about once a year when it literally falls on dirt

I'm a nurse and I clean my phone after every shift. It's disgusting how much stuff transfers onto your phone from your hands!

What I do to sanitize my toothbrush from time to time is to take the top part off (it's an electric toothbruth with a detachable head), put it in a tube and soak it with mouthwash overnight. I do this about every 1-2 weeks.

I am in a huge fight in Brazil after my father passed in December when he contracted a super resistant bacteria inside a hospital. I’ve seen health care workers using their cellphones inside ICUs in public health system, I am already in touch with government asking when they gonna change these rules!!!!!

This is why I never use my phone in the bathroom, I don't take as long as some people do but I'm patient enough to wait, I disinfect my phone and phone case with some Clorox antibacterial wipes which won't harm my phone since it's water resistant and I disinfect my iPad as well at least every 2 days mostly my phone since my phone goes through everything everyday and I touch a lot of things while at work, but not so much for my iPad since it's mostly on my bed..
Actually, you can use Lysol wipes on ANY phone rather it's water resistant or not. I have the iPhone 5c and I wipe my phone down twice a day because I'm a germaphobe. My mom has the Samsung Galaxy J3 and she's also a germaphobe and wipes her phone down everyday. Neither of these phones are water resistance and they're just fine after using Lysol wipes. A few of my friends also use Lysol wipes on their phones that aren't water resistant and there phones are fine. Don't be afraid to use wipes on your phone, it won't ruin it. Just make sure the wipe isn't soaked in the liquid at the bottom of the container.

Simply use hand disinfectant (alcoholic) on some paper damn...

@@mi-y Being clean isn't being a germophobe, only dirty ppl think that way. Phones are one of the most common ways you can get sick because you touch it constantly with your hands, including the coronavirus. It's up to you whether you want to have good hygiene or not.

This is why I clean my phone.
I always clean the back of my phone with disinfecting wipes and the screen with windex because I hate bacteria. I also wash my hands every time I'm done using my phone.

I use an alcohol swab on my phone. Or antibacterial wipes.
Do you think it's gross to use the restroom and NOT wash your hands? If you answered yes, than it's gross to wash to touch your phone and not wash your hands. Your phone has more germs than a public toilet seat. There's even very small amount of feces on your phone. Your phone also has viruses and bacteria living on it that can make you sick, so you shouldn't use your phone while eating because then, when you eat, those germs enter your body through the mouth! (GROSS!) That's why you should wipe your phone down using Lysol wipes (Or any other disinfectant wipes) to KILL all those nasty germs and bacteria on your phone, your phone will then be germ free! I have serve Mysophohia (Phobia of germs) and I felt like passing out just watching this video!
Just don't take the phone with you to the toilet. And sanitize it when you take it out of home and use it out.

It's that everyone has their phone in the open while taken a pottery or baking a cake, it ain't the same as a wallet, or I actually did see some people throughout my life licking and tasting money, but money has the same amount of bacteria on them that meaning the inside of a wallet shall be invested with bacteria and viruses as well

Narcisa Cretu this isn’t a “study” so much as lab scientists getting curious as to what they would grow from their phone. So many of the colonies that grew are normal flora (stuff that you WANT on/in your body), or environmentally ubiquitous that getting a culture without them would be cause for concern. I question the validity of the 2 plates that were negative for any growth, as that should not happen. The large grey colonies you see on the plate she holds up are bacillus species, and there were a couple different types of staphylococcus on the plates as well. Not all of them are pathogenic, unlike the well know MRSA. If you’re looking for a study, research some medical microbiology! It’s super interesting and I wish it were more well known!
