What do you think of these mini-vlogs? I was inspired by Kenji's recent Teriyaki series and would love to make one for my personal favorite / expertise HILLS! So drop your recommendations below and if it's steep I'll go try it.
Queen Anne Ave N, north of Mercer 😆
@@dale6992 it's coming :) sooner than you think
Seattle has made me realize just how spoiled I was by the flat terrain of LA. I go up a hill that feels insanely steep to me, and then I check on Access Map and it's just 8% grade 💀
Haha welcome to the land of the hills :) lower gears and ebikes welcomed
I dig all your content, from the long uncut rides to these short palate cleansers -- keep up the good mix :)
I appreciate this comment a lot! I've definitely been trying things and it gives me more time on the heavy edited videos... The finale of the Vancouver ride coming soon!!
@@BestSideCycling I live in Vancouver, so I'm anxiously waiting. I'm losing my breath just watching you climb.
Oh well, better you than me.
I remember that hill. I used to work in that building on the left.
Yes I used to live so close to this hill for a, long time and thought it was crazy steep 🤣
as a climber, I'm enjoying this series!
I'll be at heart attack hill and e Roy soon enough 🤣
@@BestSideCycling You are making me want to re-hit these, and then top it off at Zoo or Squawk!
Great climb!
One of the steepest is in neighborhood where I grew up in West Seattle. Its SW Charleston between 45 SW and 44 SW. I may be off a street or two. The downhill begins about two blocks west of California Ave.
Yes the grade maps put it also at that lower 20% I think that's really where these paved roads top out. Thanks for the suggestion and hope you've been well!
I grew up just north of there in the Fifties, riding a one-speed bike with a coaster brake. Going up? You walk. Going down? You fly and pray that your chain does not come off. West Seattle has quite some hills. SW Admiral from the lookout down toward the steel mill, riding on the sidewalk, guaranteed loose bowels.
you're cracked good stuff man
Thanks for watching!
7/10 for the climb, but 10/7 for the spirit. Attitude determines altitude…..and you climbed like a champ.
Fully agree! I love to climb 🤣
NW 60th st between 3rd and 2nd ave! Technically not a through street any more so you'd have to ride up on the sidewalk but it's like 28%.
I think I saw this one on Instagram! Will go check it out
I've started watching Yowamushi Pedal because of you and I can't help but see you as a real life version of Onoda 😂
Hahaha I take that as a big compliment. Enjoy the show!
@@BestSideCycling It's funny, I also have the matcha green Brompton, but it was a very tough decision as I also wanted the Bumblebee. I decided for matcha because I felt it wouldn't be so obvious if I leave it outside somewhere.
Yet every time I see the Bumblebee, I'm sorry for buying it instead 😅
" it is getting bad now" Hilarious.
Haha 🤣 my legs finally realizing what's happening. Thanks for watching
We need to do our own dirty dozen bike race around Thanksgiving
No joke I am planning a Best Side Cycling hill event :) 😆
Try Dravus! Love this series, keep it up!
Haha more to come but I'll also get back on my road bike soon
Fremont Ave N between N 63rd St and N62nd St (just north of the zoo) is up there at about 19.9 %, in case you're running out of stupid steep hills.
Love it! Keep the suggestions coming.
Stumbled into your channel while researching folding bikes :)
Q1: Would clip on pedals + shoes help with climbs?
Q2: Does your Brompton have an internal hub or a deraileur in the back?
Thanks for the down to earth content!
Most definitely yes on clipless for steep climbs like these. That's why I'm careful to not stand out of the saddle on flats. And the pulling up motion is helpful
This Brompton is the explore 6 speed model so it actually has both :) which is common for modern Bromptons
you've got the wind in your sails now! Awesome job. Have you watched any of the GCN content where they climb, or attempt to, some truly ridiculous inclines around the world? There are like 45% gradients out there! Probably even worse. Phil Gaimon also did a 30-something percenter in LA.
Those are some of my favorite GCN videos. I encountered a legit slab in hkg and I was tired pushing my bike up that thing. It's so scary
OOOO
climbing
Uphill is the best way.
Wow, an achievement! What chainring and low sprocket are you using? We now live in Boston (ex-West Seattle) on a steep hill and I downgeared both Bromptons to 44 teeth in the front and 16t in the rear. My wife begged for e-assist and we added a Swytch kit to hers so she could get up the hill. For me, it's my wellness program.
This is with the 44T and stock sprockets!
how long is your gearing?
4
Is that your rating?
Please change your name immediately. "Legs of Steel Cycling" is much more appropriate. 🤣
Haha time to collab with your lectric bike and my legs of "steel"
