  • DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT:
Hanoch is the “Ted Lasso of Seattle Cycling”. That’s the takeaway I got after spending 9 months making this documentary.
After getting to know Hanoch I realized there’s more to him than what’s on his RUclips channel. He’s a person of tremendous grit, heart, and determination. Through this film I hope to show this authentic side of him.
In terms of style, I wanted this film to feel as authentic as possible and not overly-produced. My expertise is in verite filmmaking so I went with handheld camerawork, natural lighting, and being as observational as possible.
The most challenging part of making the film was editing the Best Side Summits ride. The steepness of a hill doesn’t translate accurately on camera so I had to convey the steepness of the hill through editing. The pacing of the scene, music, and bringing out the struggle endured by each rider with their heavy breathing, expressions, or disbelief that they’re climbing a 21% grade.
Thank you for taking the time to watch my film and I hope it inspires you to go for a bike ride.
I make short documentaries and I’m looking to tell more stories about real people. If you have any ideas feel free to contact me via my website: www.findfoxy.com
    SYNOPSIS:
The Best Sides of Cycling is a documentary about Hanoch Yeung of Best Side Cycling. What began as a humble cycling RUclips channel becomes a journey that transcends the sport. This is a true story about how human connection and dedication can inspire a community to summit even the steepest of hills.

I'm a 47 year old software developer and I have just recently bought a brompton. It has been more than 10 years ago that I last sat on a bike and even back then, I wasn't really into it (it was a very cheap, regular bike).
The brompton has changed my life quite a bit. I used to do almost no "exercising", just watching TV every evening.
On weekends I wouldn't know what to do with my free time.
With the brompton, I started to ride to the train station instead of taking the bus. I then can take the brommie on the train to get to the office.
And in my free time I can take a train to wherever I want, take the brommie with me and ride at the destination city. That's an incredible feature!
But even in my own city, I have found many places I never seen before or wasn't aware of, just by exploring with the brompton.
This bike reminds me of my very first bike I had as a kid in the 1980s. It's like cycling for fun, for strolling around, exploring, relaxing, even having this "zen" like moments. The brompton gives me back this very feeling that I had back in 1985. Hard to tell what it is, but there's just something about the brompton that makes me want to ride it all the time.
I have even become to embrace (little) hills a bit. Still struggling with them but it gets better.
Oh, and I really like your videos. You are really showing that people who are not super sportif, and super trained and "cool", can have fun with cycling, and enjoy it.

I have only been subscribed for a few months, but you truly are an inspiring figure. From your rides with commentary to infrastructure videos and even getting involved with the city you reside in is extremely inspiring. Being a resident of the southeastern United States, I can guarantee that you are making an impact on people far and wide. Thanks for all of the hard work you put in to making Best Side not only educational, but also entertaining. Thank you for making it feel like a community that has no borders. I wish you the absolute best going forward!

Wow, well done documentary, Hanoch. I get incentive to do more hills. The best part of the film is your interaction with your dad. How cool is that.

I am glad to come across your channel since I come to Redmond twice a year to visit my son. Along with my new Brompton T-line 12 speeds, your channel has helped me to explore different cycling trail around the Seattle areas. Keep up the great work to inspire people to cycle!

The first thing I did to my new 2019 Superlight, bought during High Covid19 for the Vacation Money saved from that (Besides giving it a Car Polish all over, and finding the clear tape "protection" from the Factory near worn through to the paint, so I ordered a full set of protective plates from "the main suppliers" of extra light and superior parts for a Brompton: China, Taiwan and Korea!!!) was changing the rubber grips to a set with bolted clamps in both ends, from leather, with a Brompton Print! After all it is a Brompton and not something Exotic!
I then changed near all - loose parts, nuts, bolts, front axle, security discs, handlebar and seat post to titanium and carbon, so for now it weighs 9 kilo, and still with mudguards (with new carbon clamps to hold the titanium stays on those!)!
As a decent Country for all its citizens we have separate bike passes along near all roads in cities and also outside!

Glad you posted this to your channel since I wasn't able to see the screening in person!
BTW random idea: have you ever considered doing a series on cool places you can visit on your bike in Seattle/Bellevue? In particular, there's a "Bicycle Benefits" program throughout Seattle where you can get discounts at certain stores/restaurants just by showing them a sticker on your helmet. Gives those businesses some publicity, raises awareness about the Bicycle Benefits program, and it would promote accessing more places via bike throughout the city.

I honestly was first attracted to this channel due to me being born and raised in the Seattle area also, as well as someone interested in bike commuting and cycling infrastructure, but you've definitely earned a subscriber with your content! Like one of your friends in the doc mentioned, I appreciate that you do really cover the "best sides" of cycling, focusing on both commuter-friendly bike infrastructure as well as fitness and health. I appreciate that you even cover transit from time to time! Keep up the good work! I've been getting a bit lazy with my e-bike commuting, but videos like these are really pushing me to get out more often on the bike!

Haha I do purposely time it in September when people are the most fit but I guess like also follows like when it comes to rides like these :)
