I drove an ‘88 Crx Si with a 5-speed manual for about 2 years and holy crap was that an awesome car. I still miss that car and it’s been over 10 years since I had it now.
WHAT’s it like to own? Let me tell you. I bought a Yellow 1989 crx SI when I was 22 years old and I still have it today. So 22 years ago. For sure one of the best FWD cars ever made. The light weight and double wishbone suspension make for a super fun drive. The 108 hp might not seem like much but it feels way more powerful thanks to how lite it is. But it also means its noticeably slower with a heavy passenger sitting next to you. To truly enjoy it, You need to drive it like you stole it. You have to shift it at 7000 rpm so the engine stays in its sweet spot around 4000 rpm when that needle drops. Dont worry you wont break it. The engine is bullet proof. I have been trying to kill it for 22 years so I could have a good reason to slap in a VTEC and it just wont die. The 1.6 liter engine really improves with an intake and exhaust. The sound is quite nice on a cold morning too. I drove it in winter for 6 years, its a really good car in snow but the body rust will destroy the car. I ended up fixing it up and made it all fast and furious with a kit and it never saw another winter again. If you find one, check the rear quarters , sun roof pane and rocker panels for rust. Honda no longer supports parts so get on facebook and join as many CRX groups as possible. We help each other. Except for MUGEN stuff because fanatics drove up the prices. The car is very practical for how small it is. Plenty of room for 2 people. The plastics are very cheap and brittle . Look at the climate control...is it cracked near the dial? ...No! ....good that is a 600$ part on EBAY because they all broke. It will still function because its a honda. The CRX not very safe by todays standards. There is no Airbags, no side impact beams, no ABS, no stability, no traction control and very small crumple zone. Its also fragile. The front end cant take to much damage or the car will be totalled. There is no fancy gadgets either, mine dosent even have A/C. No electric windows, no power doors, no cup holders, no power seats, etc. Because its so spartan it makes it even more of a drivers car so thats a good thing. Even the center console is slightly angled towards the driver. If you get one, get ready. Everyone will tell you they had one when they were younger and wished they never sold it. You will get offers to buy it on street corners. Volkswagen’s far and wide will speed up behind you so they can instigate a race or just show off the ridiculous popping of they’re exhaust. Press the gas hard ...let go...POP,POP,POP,POP,POP...DO IT AGAIN ...You will see people taking pictures of you with they’re phones but trying to not make it look like thats what they are doing. Definitely one of the best cars they made. I have a RHD one and I Love it! I've had about 4 my whole life and it was one of the best choices I made. Lol
Friend of mine had one of these. He SMOKED me on the highway. That was the day I knew I would get a Honda in the future. ** I was driving a 7-Series BMW at the time. Yes, I was shocked!
nice job! great video. another fun fact...these cars can fit a person up to 7' height. Because it was built on the civic platform (a four seater) the seat runners go WAY back and there is loads of room in every direction. I am 6'5" and I don't feel the least bit cramped in my 91 rex...which is why I have been keeping and driving it since I bought it in 1991.
Fun fact: The seat rails for the 88-91 CRX in Canada (and at least the 1988 in USA - not sure about the years with the passive restraint system) go back further than the JDM seat rails because of the rear seat. I swapped my EF8 seat rails with Canadian 1988 Si ones and I fit more comfortably in it.
Civic Crx and Integra were always the budget inferior Hondas. Because most ccsuckers couldn't afford a Prelude or some S2000 they overreacted talking about their cars that today are considered legends by ignorant fanboys. Crx was a short car and the rear was very unstable despite being fwd. Not a bad car compared with most hatches but for sure not the Best fwd .And D16 DelSlow was a complete joke
My uncle had a red CRX that he hasn’t driven for about a decade because the engine seized up, and his ups driver ended up buying it from him to restore with his son because he had one when he was 19. I wanted it so bad, but it needed more work than I’d be able to put into it. Cool car
Lol back seats? Take the privacy cover off and you can fit a few people in the back😂 I’ve done it before in my first crx. I was able to fit 10 of my friends in the back. We were in high school which was 7-10 years ago

Bought a CRX si new in '85. One of the most enjoyable cars I've ever owned. Decided to stay with the Xs. Had to wait 26 years to be able to afford one, currently own a '91 NSX.
I currently own 4 Honda CRX’s (13 others are sadly gone). It’s been my favorite car ever since I saw (first noticed) a 1989 CRX Si in color code Y-49 back in 1998-ish.
haha no chance you’re in the detroit area and trying to get rid off one of the 4 is there ?
@@ramseyzakaria1333 I’m in California & not selling any of them at the moment. I’m holding onto them just in case my son or daughter want 1 or 2 of them (when they’re old enough to drive). I’m hoping to get on the track with them someday. 😎
13 OTHERS!?
@@TheCorrupted1-mw1vg Yeah, I’ve owned 17 in total. From the 17, I’ve kept 4 of them, but may be selling 1 soon.
I just picked up a 91 hf with 87k original miles. Dont get discouraged they still exist :)
I was thinking abt the crx and wanted to see if u had a video on the crx and you just came out with it right when i looked it up PURE COINCIDENCE
Don't own a CRX but I have a Civic EX 1990, and boy let me tell you, as old as she is its by far THE MOST fun I've had, the suspension is so good, and it cruises as if it was made yesterday, I can't wait to work on her! Feel great for it to be my first car
No power steering no a/c and i still love driving my 91 crx.
whats nice with late 80's and early 90's car is that they dont have so much electronics in them. And thats a huge bonus for me.
“So you want a Ford Taurus SHO” 1st and 2nd gen (the real sho)
I own 3 crx's. One is a AWD drag car build.. one has a dohc zc.. the last is bone stock with d15b.... love them all... all are manual.. looking at buying more.
When does the CR-Z episode come? 👀
I love that car
We need this
My dream car. I would be beyond overjoyed to finally find one on sale around me.
7:51 "We are about to talk about what its actually like to own one of these."
next sentence: "we have fancy lights again, look at em!"
Me: nice.
My dad bought a 1991 Tahitian Pearl Green one brand new... it is still sitting in our garage with absolutely no rust and under 85k on the clock. They are an absolute blast to drive. Not much power but it didn't need it for only weighing under a ton.
Thought I was going to see my CRX in the intro, ahhh well!!!
Im literally on the phone contacting an owner for one. Im buying a 91 Hf for $4.8k usd really clean.
Part 14 of asking for what no one else will... “So You Want A Hyundai Tiburon”
Seconded
No, no i do not want a tiburon
I really don’t want one 😓
yuk
No one in their right minds wants a Tiburon
Love the CRX. Have a 88. Was as widower special. Wife bought it new had every oil change and service recorded. He sold it on the premise that I would not rice it out. Still have it all original from dealer. Loved Hondas since they came out. Mom had a second gen Prelude Si. That is what started the fire. I had an 89 Si hatch, sold it for a woman, Never again. My son drives a 2020 Si sedan.
I say thank you when I get cut off by a crx in traffic because they are so rare to see
My 1st car was a '91 CRX. Damn I miss that beast.
Love my some Efs & Crx’s.... daily my Ef Sedan. Love the video.
I have a 91 si and I originally bought it to get me around for 6 months or so.Now I have owned it for 8 and a half years and still love driving it
Requesting So you want a Honda CRZ, imo it's cool because it's the only 6 speed manual, or only manual for that matter hybrid that exists afaik and they can be made fun
1st gen Honda Insight had manual as well and was hybrid
@@haxorman4302 ah ok well that's true, I forgot, both deserve in an episode imo
Another one of those you didn’t know you wanted and now you do
STILL HAVE MINE 88 SI WITH JDM FRONT END 😉
@@whogotasprite587$1500CAD for my front end and waiting til next yext for the body work!!!!!!!! Back to the stock red!!!!!!!🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 have fun with your build crx cuzzo!!!!!!!!
I'm not a fwd guy but these cars are an absolute blast to drive through the mountains! Would I sink the money in one that I did in my RX7? NO, but it's definitely the best and most fun daily driver you can pick up today
If I can find a CR-X I'll be the happiest person on earth.
bought a used CRX from a former Top Gun pilot. He said it was like flying but on the road! wish i still had it!
OhHhH I've been waiting for this one
My Mom gave me this car before I had a license. Had so much fun with it, got in a lot of trouble, met a lot girls at school in the 90's. Wish I could track it down and restore it, but I don't have the VIN.
This is not ‘So you want a Kia Soul’ and the people are starting to get angry
I've had 2 crx in my life . Real NICE!!!!!!!!
There is a turbo model of the Kia Soul that has some performance enthusiasm at least.
It's so sad to hear that my dad owned one when he was in college and he just sold it. There's still old pictures of him with it when he was younger and it looked so good!
Have one
It's in a million pieces.
Don't get one unless you're a pro at Hondas
UwU
Im not a pro but did learn a hell of a lot on mine! Did my first manual swap and mpfi conversion, Header install, Obd1 o2 sensor conversion. Why is yours in a million pieces? Lol I will say though these cars do take time and patience at these old ages not everything is easy to come by and even the oem hardware is seized up lots of times. About the only thing I havent serviced is my fuel tank and system. Still going strong for now.
@@trentonjardine2537 mine is in a million pieces because racecar and my other unfinished projects
The crx is my passion project
@@maxxas5067 awesome dude! The crx is my passion as well just dont have a plan on tearing it down just yet. But we all know if we want these cars to last another 30 years it's only neccessary!
If I didn't live in NYC I would totally buy a CRX and not have to worry about getting left gutted and on blocks
we need a day when FI, JackUltraMotive, Evan Shanks, illiminate, dustin williams, donut media, doug dmuro, speed academy, adam lz, tj hunt, sammit, jimmy oaks and krispy media all upload a video all in that day..... i wish
How could you say this so confidently without including tavarish I’m appalled it was almost complete
@@gspadez ill look em up ive never heard of them
@@gspadez i just wanted to say thank you...... tavarish is hilarious
Had one when I was in my 20s. Now in my 40s, and I still want another one!
I had a crx that my boys put a stop sign in it as a replacement quarter panel hahahaha
I’ve been driving Crx since I could drive, I’ve had 3 so far one blue, red, white, don’t have the red one anymore but man I love these cars so good.
''So you want a BMW E34'' please Alex!
Love my 90’ crx si, was a blast when it was my daily i got it with 89k miles it has 113k currently. will never sell
Day 1 of asking for So you want a Polaris Slingshot
I certainly did back in the mid 90s. Fun and fuel efficient. Honda tax means I Bought an mgb for less and learned a lot more.
So you want a Ford Fusion, day 1 of asking
US or EU Fusion?
@@ultraguy8771 the US Fusion
Heated steering wheel, so nice in winter.
My oldest brother had a crx as his first car 10 years ago. It looked great but the previous owner had taken most life out of the engine and it was rusty AF what caused my brother to hate hondas. Now he doesnt hate hondas, cuz i bought a honda 3 months ago with no issues other than a dent in the trunk.
I’ve stayed tuned😭😭it’s now day 40 of asking so you want an “Audi R8”😭😭😭
I love my ed9, eg2, and rd1. Best cars ever!
Gonna restart my asking DAY 1: of asking for a So you want a Volvo C30 T5 R design 🇸🇪🇸🇪
Were they ever sold in the US? If not, I don't think they'll do it anytime soon.
Ultraguy87 yes they were I own a 09 Volvo C30 T5 R design in the USA
I have a 1988 hf crx and I've owned it since I was 17 so I had the car for 21 years and I love this car.
Welp... Time to go on Craigslist/facebook marketplace again
Miss my gal. Best car I EVER owned. She had heart and a mpg that was hard to beat.
Good luck finding one
Late upload tonight anyone? 🤔 Sneak peek! Video is processing as we speak!
I'm in Los Angeles. These pieces of crap are everywhere. You can find them easily.
Definitely one of the best cars they made. I have a RHD one and I Love it! I've had about 4 my whole life and it was one of the best choices I made. Lol
So You Want A... Nissan Sentra
Friend of mine had one of these. He SMOKED me on the highway. That was the day I knew I would get a Honda in the future.
** I was driving a 7-Series BMW at the time. Yes, I was shocked!
Day 7 asking fitment industries to do an episode on so you want a lotus exige s.
nice job! great video. another fun fact...these cars can fit a person up to 7' height.
6.5 and 7' how many meters are there?
Best explanation of a crx: it’s the grandma or grandpa that’s like to go on runs but still like to sit down and relax
Yes! Its comfortable staying at home most of the time, but loves to get out once in a while. That's a good way to put it man.
love jdm 80s cars keep the content coming!
I owned one. Loved it! typ 2 was the best. It was like a kart on the road, sticky like glue with coilovers KW to the ground.
My uncle had a red CRX that he hasn’t driven for about a decade because the engine seized up, and his ups driver ended up buying it from him to restore with his son because he had one when he was 19. I wanted it so bad, but it needed more work than I’d be able to put into it. Cool car
I just wish they came with back seats 😭
(Edit) so it's a good excuse to my parents
They have like 80hp that should be enough lol
Second gen had rear seats but only in Japan 🤣
every EDM and JDM model came with back seats. I have them but actually prefer the look of the USDM version with just 2 seats
Lol back seats? Take the privacy cover off and you can fit a few people in the back😂 I’ve done it before in my first crx. I was able to fit 10 of my friends in the back. We were in high school which was 7-10 years ago
You can buy them but they're like 700 usd
